Korean customs are one of the parts of this hobby I don't think I'll ever understand. As things are now, they don't seem to offer anything special over other fully programmable keyboards, other than sometimes a really fancy case, yet there's such a fanbase for them.

don't let a couple of geekwhack hipster spill overs fool you into thinking this is a huge market. Its only like 300 people who buy the same shit over and over again. You do get a few people with some extra autism bucks who maybe buy one or two, but it really is the same people who consistently buy the same shit.
Some people spent $800+ on pick related, even though the base price was like $400
>>
>>58699812
Better depends on your point of view.

To me, cases don't get much better than a simple piece of metal with feet attached. Things like fancy milled aesthetic parts, engraved logos, milled translucent plastic undersides, bezels three inches thick, etc don't add to anything except the price tag for me.

But whatever, I just won't buy them.
>>
is the spacebar on a mechanical keyboard supposed to feel a little more hard to presst than other keys? is this something I just have to get used to?
>>
Anyone here switched from blues to browns? If you did, what do you think of them?

Blues are starting to feel heavier everyday and they make my fingers feel stiff.
>>
>>58699931
Normally spacebars are easier to press because of leverage.

Take the caps off, maybe you have one where the manufacturer put a higher force switch under the spacebar (eg, green spacebar switch, blues on the rest)
>>
>>58699979
Blues are lighter then most rubber domes. Apple chiclet keyboards require 65g of force, while blues need 55g. You must have some weak fingers

Seriously thinking about picking up the Logitech MK710 combo tomorrow for $80 AUD tomorrow (20% sale). It won't be too bad right? I've only ever used rubber domes and need something fairly quiet. The other alternative I suppose is to buy a off brand brown switch keyboard from chinese websites and buy a good all rounder mouse to go with it.

It's weird how there are decent ISO PBT caps but if you want dyesub legends on them you have to go with a non standard profile, even for something like a basic UK layout.
Meanwhile ANSI group buys include extra keys for obscure, specialized layouts and a dozen novelty dyesub legend options with little to no practical use.

>Or gave up their fucking patent
They never owned the patents. Those expired long ago.
They still make the original keycaps with the original tooling, but those are more expensive. They do have a budget keyboard which is like $80 that uses less plastic and cheap keycaps. I guess that's the one your friend has.

The original model M keyboard would run you like $150 if you get it from Unicomp, and they don't sell it directly you'd have to specifically ask for it.

>>
>>58706750
>Then why doesnt anyone else make buckling springs anymore?
They do
The tooling is expensive. You'd have to spend several million dollars just to get a proper channel and even then you'd be competing with Unicomp who no matter what will always be cheaper then you. If you want to create a buckling spring keyboard that can be competitive price wise with Unicomp you'd have to cheap out in everything, and even then what's the point when your competitor offers a vastly superior product.
There are Chinese clones of buckling springs, but those keyboards cost $450. They're doing one more production run before they recycle the tooling since there is no point to continue.

The model F does use separate housings so they can be interchanged like cherry switches. As for the cherry mounting there are mods by Matteo that do achieve that and will also work in both directions. The problem is that they make the keycaps even taller

Anyone got experience with those cheap chink backlight-compatible PBT doubleshot keycap sets? I expect them to be on the thinner side, but they're like half the price of that Vortex set and I won't get raped with shipping like I would if I ordered from the US (because lol yurop).

Got a set of pbt chinky keycaps on aliexpress for $20. Actually feels pretty great. I hope that ali starts selling some DSA or SA profile in decent color schemes soon.
>>
>>58700943
if it's anything like the other cheaper 75% boards (e.g. keycool 84 or mk 84) it will have really crappy and rattly stabilizers. but other than that it should be fine assuming you're okay with the rattle. i also heard drevo gramr uses one of the cheaper chinese clones, but i don't really know how they compare with the more well known clones like greetech, gateron, or kailh.

i got a plum84 with gateron switches from aliexpress and that's been pretty good so far.
keycaps are decently thick pbt thought the legends aren't that great (at least it's not gamer font). it has lubed costar style stabilizers that don't rattle for me, and are easily accessible for future lubing.

the only problem i have is that there are massive delays/missed keys during general use with the LEDs turned on if the keyboard is plugged into a USB hub instead of directly to my computer. not sure what the deal is as my hub is externally powered as well, but when connected directly to the computer it works perfectly.

also worth noting i tried the plum84 with the 35g topre clones and mine doesn't have the issues that the plum84 with gateron switches has.

>>
>>58715020
literally the post above yours
>>
>>58715011
not currently, all the legit taobao sellers with them are out of stock and probably won't have more until after lunar new year ends

kind of annoying, i wanted to get the one in your pic but now that store only has those folded plates for 60% and 75%

its not about sucking cherry's dick, they switched to a much cheaper switch and they didn't lower the price. thats why people hate razer

I wonder why Cooler Master is the only one that makes 96 key keyboards for cheap. You'd think they'd be even more popular then 84 key ones

Total (US):

>inb4 "b-but swapping springs is so hard!!!!!"
you're already putting in the effort of buying a custom switch to solder onto a meme-board. don't act like you don't have anything but time to switch springs, loser

Funny, it tells me $20 for 100 switches. Or $35 for the 150 I actually need.
Zealios are actually $35 shipping for 100 or 150 switches for me anyway so your point still stands.
Any place that sells wooden keycaps for the shift keys? I have yet to find someone that will actually sell some. I honestly don't care what kind of wood and my budget is pretty stretchable
>>
>>58715692
so is zealios just a meme switch that the super autists can brag about?
>>
>>58715795
Its a clone of cherry clears that reddit came up with, and they yell at anyone who attempts to clone those. Gateron had to stop selling their cherry clear clones because zeal got pissy at them
>>
>>58715795
it's a premade ergo clear that's supposed to be ~super smooth~

because apparently cherry switches are "scratchy" to people who are either super sensitive babies or pretending they can feel shit they can't so they have something to complain about
>>
>>58715844
They are pretty smooth, and stock clears are pretty scratchy in comparison. It's not like it's hard to feel the difference between a smooth & scratchy switch m8.
>>
>>58715738
Interesting, it is still telling me
>"$10.00 Standard International"

There should be other sites in Europe/UK that have more reasonable prices, but I didn't feel like putting much more effort into this.

And you're right about international zealio shipping, just tried again.

>>58715749
Kek yes

Wobbly stems, and non sturdy housings :^)

>>58715795
yes
>>
>>58715864
double blind test of clears vs zealios with identical springs or shut the fuck up
>>
>>58715834
where is zeala ctually based and why is gateron or any other chink factory afraid to clone?
>>
>>58715878
I own both, is it really so hard to believe that a switch with smoothed plastic (feelios) is smoother than textured plastic (cherry MX)?
>>
>>58715908
when you're not giving any unbiased evidence at all? yeah, it is

if zealios are so great, prove it
don't just give me some bullshit about feels > reals

All I said is that they're noticeably smoother, which they are. Just compare the texture on the stems here. Get your knickers out of a twist m8.
>>
>>58715942
they ain't in a twist, you just dumb

great evidence by the way, a single photo of a single zealio stem compared to some random mx-style brown stem that could be from any chinese clone
>>
>>58715960
Clearly nothing is going to convince you, even when given picture evidence. The plastic isn't textured to the same extent as cherry MX. There are multiple pictures out there showing such if you'd bother to use google.

>t-that could be any brown stem!
Reach more nigga.
>>
>>58715987
m8 im not the one trying to justify spending 50% more on a switch on the basis of 'feels'

Can't get a good pic on my phone, but clears are not textured like that.

This factory lubed Zealio switch doesn't feel any smoother at all than that MX-Clear un-lubed switch.

With lube clears feel smoother to me.

I don't care about the cost man, I got half a dozen different types of switches sitting around for future boards. It's a demonstrable fact that the dumb purple switches are smoother than cherry mx.

Lubed my clear switch, then swapped the springs.

The tactile bump is still so much more pronounced, and the switch feels a little smoother to me after being lubed.

I see no reason for anyone to buy Zealios
>>
>>58716207
What d'you use to lube the switches?
>>

I got the "thick" formula
>>
>>58716305
Shouldn't be too different from the GPL 205/103 mix I've used before then.
>>
What's with all the homosexual boards on display here? I sense a lot of you have lights inside your PC cases too...
>>
So is topre actually the tactility I'm looking for or are they just like rubber domes? I've got experience with old dome keyboards, MX reds and laptops and I have to say that I'm always missing my laptop feel no matter how much I like the reds.
>>
>>58717721
They're kinda like normal rubber domes, but a lot smoother with collapsing feeling that's hard to describe. They're not as tactile as some people say. Matias and jewlios have sharper tactility imo.
