Tfw no JIS layout (return key, small backspace, small right shift) but regular spacebar 65% keyboard.
>>
I bought a Das Keyboard and it has a faulty "W" key which makes it useless to me, fucking hell

can't you return it?
>>

>small right shift
>65%
65% already has a 1.75u right shift normally, can't make it much smaller than that. Unless you're thinking like a Clueboard with its normally 2.25u right shift, but that does support either 1u/1.25u or 1.25u/1u split shift on the right side
>>
>>58681423
Yea but it's a pain in the arse since I gotta mail it back to them, I thought Germans where good at making shit that works

keyboard is very nice though, I decided to go against the logitech keyboard with all the flashing lights for some vanilla keyboard and it was definitely a good choice.. apart from the fact one key is fucked

Yes and that particular model is a late 80's model wich have the thickest steel plate.Definitely pick it up, you could re-sell it for way over 100 or keep it and have a great board.

So I am going to build a keyboard. For switches should I make ergo clears, put heavier springs in gateron browns or pay the zealios jew?

Gateron browns are just smoother Cherry browns iirc, so either ergo clears or zealios. Ergo clears are cheaper if you buy your shit from mechanicalkeyboards.com because of volume discounts.

I have one (two) of those plastic OG Filco keyboard roofs but they're for full sized keyboards. it fits on my 60% but half of the roof stands off of course. Is there a way I can somehow close it off from the right side after cutting half of it off?
>>
>>58681906
Cut off both sides. Still protects from dust and looks good.
>>
>>58681906
Do people really use those? I threw away the one that came with my Ducky
>>
>>58681987
sure why not, why let dust get on the keyboard over night
>>
>>58681906

You have plenty of options.
>>58681965
Is a good idea.

You could also cut the side from the 40% portion you remove and then either glue, tape or use heat to attched it back onto the cover.

I've been reading a lot about the bromine flame retardants that were used in keyboard plastics in the 80s and 90s. Many of these are toxic and have now been banned. And because they are not chemically bound to the plastic, they migrate to the surface of the plastic over time.

This has me worried. Does anyone know if there have been studies on this? Is it a valid fear? I fucking love my model Ms, but this stuff is putting a damper on my enthusiasm.

I'm in Argentina but I can buy stuff of the US Amazon.

It's mostly going to be used for gaming so I'd say MX Reds, haven't been able to try switches myself though.

ISO preferred but I can get used to something else.

100% or 80% works for me.
>Backlight
Some backlight would be nice, not necessary though.

Currently using a Microsoft Sidewinder X6, it's worked really well but after the years I've had it, it's falling apart.

Thanks in advance

>>
>>58687655
Care to describe in detail the Dolch keyboard you rescued from the trash a few years back?
>>
>>58687671
It's got cherry mx blues and was in perfect condition aside from a few snapped screwholes inside. It was originally part of a PAC 60 network analyzer or somesuch. I've been thinking of doing a PC build inside of the analyzer but haven't really gotten around to it yet.
>>
>>58687639

>>
>>58687729
Sounds pretty nice. How did you treat the snapped screwholes?

The keyboard itself look very comfortable. I wonder if it is worth very much to a collector.
>>
>>58687750
I used superglue and it worked really well - at least there haven't been any problems yet! The keyboard itself is great - my only real complaint thus far has been that the escape and function keys are a bit too high up. As for price, I remember seeing one on Ebay for around $150 in decent condition. Not sure how accurate that is now, though.

Let's do the math here

>Paying 100%+ of the upfront cost of a standard 104 keyboard.
>Getting >65% of the keyboard.
>Losing >40% of the weightiness
>Spending 25%+ of the total cost of the keyboard on a brass/steel backplate weight to make up for the weight loss
>Spending 2x the time it would take to use a standard key on a 104 lay out
>Having to remember 8x the layers just to squeeze out 100% of the functionality
>Adding an extra 1-2 button presses to get to non programmed already complicated keyboard shortcuts like (Control + Alt + Shift + 3) (Ctrl + Alt + Shift + F6) (Shift + Ctrl + Up Arrow)

Really makes you think.

>>58691609
You really don't need a warranty for the HHKB, that thing will last for ever, but the HHKB does come with a general warranty from PFU
>>
>>58691646
>PFU restricts its warranty for HHKB Professional products to Japan only. This also implies to virtually any HHKB Professional purchased from Japan. The one year manufacturer warranty is specifically as stated on the warranty sheet that is included inside the packaging box. For non Japanese owners residing outside Japan, this usually means that their warranties are not honoured and thus instantly void.

It is not general. Also, by that logic, you don't need warranty for any Topre keyboard - which, while technically true, is still nice to have.
>>
>>58691639
here in germany you have to pay tax on the full value of the package, so including the shipping and then some more on top of that if it exceeds 150€ in value

but if you can find one for 240 I'd get the happy hacking because it's full programmable
>>
>>58691658
That's weird. Here in America they do cover it, and in some cases they even pay for the shipping. I guess the Japs really hate Europe
>>
>>58691664
Over here it depends - but, as far as I know, (a) adding the shipping/proxy fees only adds about 10 EUR to the tax, and (b) our customs do not add additional import fees for keyboards.

The problem is I'd rather get the white one, which is a good 50 EUR extra, and I also have heard that the case for that one yellows really, really quickly.
>>
>>58691675
That's because you have an official reseller - EliteKeyboards, who cover the warranty for the US - however, they also state they do not provide warranty for products imported outside of the US.

Europe does not have an official HHKB reseller because the HHKB is not CE-certified - The Keyboard Company tried to get them in stock years ago.

what is the best form factor and why is it 65%?
>>
>>58697715
10%
>>
>>58697715
65% is good but only if the keyboard is programmable
>>
>>58697738
anything less than a fullsize with dedicated media keys sucks without programmability

now that i've had a fully programmable keyboard i can't back to pre-set layouts

programmable leopold fc660c when so i can try topre?

what's the point of putting a key on the function layer mere millimeters from a dedicated key that does the same thing?

is the KBParadise V60 a good purchase for a first buyer? I really want a 60% keyboard, browns seem like the best switch for me. Whats the difference between PBT and ABS Keycaps?

Thanks. It's even better with f springs instead.

ABS keycaps will shine up with use rather quickly, where as PBT will take decades to shine up, if at all.

If you're okay with the size, then yeah. PBT keycaps last longer and feel nicer than ABS. They have a bit of a rough texture and don't get shiny like ABS keycaps do. It's not a massive difference in feel at first, but it is nicer, specially if you get thick PBT keycaps.

The springs in the two are identical, and bottom out around 80g.

google is you friend

Basically PBT is a much more resilient plastic and will last longer then ABS.
Pic related is the type of shine you get on ABS keycaps

The active adapter, not the keyboard retard.
>>
>>58681673
that keyboard is old style IBM model stuff, just after windows 98 was discontinued.

a pin5key might not work even with the adapter if your mobo wants 6pin PS/2 generic keyboard.
>>
>>58699400
It works fine with Soares converter

only if you burn your keyboards in a room with no windows and only one door and the fireproofing is gas.

the bromine and hydrocarbon smoke will cause cancer but the gas will asphyxiate you.

so pretty much it wont matter unless I stick with the same keycaps for a long time and never decide to get some other ones.

I guess Ill stick to browns because i am technically a keyboard babby.
>>
>>58699528
abs can start to shine very quickly, after only a few months if it's cheaply made abs
>>
>>58699528
I like PBT keycaps since they are softer then ABS, but it really doesn't matter. Not all PBT is created equal however. The PBT on my model M has been around longer then me and it still looks brand new. The PBT that you get from Tai-Hao is hard and rough and feels more like ABS. The v60 uses Tai-hao PBT so don't expect to be blown away.
