If you have a picture of your watch being worn from a straight on angle, please feel free to post it along with your wrist size, diameter of the watch and lug-to-lug of the watch. Because it comes up so frequently I'll try and compile a small collection of images of wrist-size and lug-to-lug length combinations that can be used for reference, rather than simply telling people that they should be looking at smaller watches.
If you're not sure how to measure your wrist, you can take a flexible tape measure, or just use a piece of string and wrap it around your wrist, then measure the length of the string required to circle your wrist.
Wrist size should be in inches, lug-to-lug and diameter should be in mm.
Thanks.
Example image of a straight on photo with measurements recorded.
I'll look to compile these images into some sort of easily browsed format or master images.
>>58613087
No, it looks/feels really quality, but there's only a choice of two micro-adjustment holes. So it's either pinching tight or slipping down over my wristbone.
I keep adding and removing links, hoping vainly to get it perfect.
>>58613066
Thanks, its actually an SNKL23 on a Hirsh Crocograin. SARB033 is a bit harder to find where I am so I made do.
>>>58613020
>Longines
They seem to fuck up a lot of their reissues with date windows but at least they didn't with pic attached. The brand as a whole seems like a lazy way for the Swatch group to print some money with a lot of rehashes from an actually great and interesting history. Pretty sad in a lot of ways. Like a much better Hamilton in that sense?
>>58613228

Alot of times you can pick up a stock rubbers strap on ebay from somebody who took it off for a bracelet or nato. Try that for $20 rather than some chinkshit.
>>58606777
I don't think anyone who owns a Hamilton Khaki is deluded into thinking it's anything more than a decent tool watch with an ETA movement in it.
I quite like mine on a steel bracelet and I didn't pay very much for it at all.
>>58614118
>Or how about favourite diver in general?
Vintage Tudor sub with snowflake hands and blue dial and bezel.
Failing that, Tudor BB red, ETA movement.
Why is the Bulova superior to the Omega?
It has an exceptional dial, case styling is more utilitarian looking, more "spacelike". Actually related to timekeeping on spacemissions unlike omega. Not overpriced since its sold under msrp. More honest since they admit its an replica unlike omega which are also made fully in china.
so i've been slowly building up my Sub $500 collection over the last few years, and it's time for me to step up. I'm thinking of starting with a nice Seamaster, leaning towards this one, whats the best way to go about finding a reasonable second hand one?
>>58615641
>Actually related to timekeeping on spacemissions unlike omega.
Like the 14 second burn required to save the astronauts on board Apollo 13?
You know they do those snoopy edition speedmasters because NASA awarded them a silver snoopy for that, right?
>Not overpriced since its sold under msrp
What? You can easily buy them under MSRP. Also simply selling at under MSRP doesn't, itself, tell you if something is well priced.
>more "spacelike".
Oh what the hell am I reading. Did you put that in quotes as a freudian slip way of admitting it's ridiculous?
You need to get over the speedmaster thing and stop trying to validate your own purchases to yourself thru this shitposting.

>>58615806
Considering Casio hasn't made a watch until 4 years after Apollo 13, I'm sure they would have had trouble doing that with a Casio, yes.
>>58615729
Bulova was incharge of timekeeping on moonlandings, the actual everyday useful timekeeping, and remember, the Omega is the First and Only Watch to break on the Moon(tm).
We all know the speedy is ovepriced, in recent years the price has skyrocketed. The Bulova is still almost 10times cheaper new and that is not only because it is a quartz, there are plenty of mechanical chronos umder 1000€.
Freudian slipped his cock up your ass, its a simple way to exclaim "spacelikeness" is not the key feature but the utilitarian look of it. Hence the spacelikeness.
Im not trying to validate, just want some discussion and shed some light on the Bulova since Omega is SO overhyped, its essentially a chinese mech chrono nowadays and its quality speaks for itself.
>>58615802
Planet ocean chrono maybe
>>58615803
But the speedmaster IS a replica too, different movement, different box with MUH space nostalgia kit. And made in china not swiss.
>>58615820

>>58615891

What's a good minimalist watch with (near) complete Arabic numbers?
I was eyeing the Stowa Flieger no logo and the GG-W-113.
I'd like to avoid any complications, even the Date window since they usually make things all asymmetric. An exception of this would be the Hamilton Jazzmaster Thinline Quartz, I'd consider it if I was okay with a quartz.

1. You should never dive alone. So there are people around you with working dive computers.
2. In the event you're an idiot, or every dive computer magically fails, you should still know what it displayed before it broke. You should have a clear idea at any time whether you're well within an NDL profile or not, in which case, just make the safety stop at 3m.
3. If you're diving in some unusual conditions, you should have a backup computer, enough air to go back up, and people around you, so just surface as slowly as you can like you've been taught and trained to.
4. In the event you have no idea what to do when a dive computer fails, just drown, or pass your open water maybe.
5. There's no excuse to wear anything other than a cheap Casio on a dive. Ideally, put that watch in a pocket, not on your wrist.
>>58619015
Or you could just keep an automatic on your wrist in case your dive computer AND diving buddy both fail at the same time.
Or just as a handy way to time certain things using the bezel.

>>58619047
>Or you could just keep an automatic on your wrist in case your dive computer AND diving buddy both fail at the same time.
A broken equipment means an aborted dive, there's no excuse. If you're diving safely and reasonably, you can surface without a dive computer or even a watch. Most dive watches are terribly fragile compared with a dive computer, it's the thing that's the most likely to fail.
You also have no fucking clue how a dive computer works, it does many more things than just timing your dive, and it's way more practical than a bezel.
>>58619157
You don't remember the time, you remember how deep you've been, how safely you are from the NDL, and how much air you've got. Time doesn't even matter.
>>58619188
>A broken equipment means an aborted dive, there's no excuse.

What matters is your air, depth and NDL. That's it. Anything else is a relic from the past that got people killed. And you're not finding out where the NDL is with a watch, let alone with a calculator. Just ascend at a rate of 10 meters/minute, no need for even a precise watch to count a minute, and slower is better, as long as you have air. Again, the depth variation is more important.

>>58619528
>driving at high speed without a seat belt or mirrors is fine if you know what you are doing
>>58619528
It's just that once you've been diving long enough, you know more than a couple people that died alone on a dive. And it's not idiots, or unexperienced people, most of them are instructors, who know how dangerous it is, and are better prepared than most. And the few of them that barely survive a solo dive, never do it again.
Shit tends to happen a lot on a dive, it happened to me a lot already, and if I had been alone, I would have drowned a dozen times. Now if your idea of diving alone is going to boring spots at a depth of 5 meters, then you'd be better off snorkeling at the hotel pool.

Its like saying I prefer another band from the 70s, since it is not a copy or replica of the omega you dumb fuck.
>>58620524
Lol Bulova and countless other watch companies were owned by jews at one point.
Also, brother, just let it go
You owned a speedmaster, realised you were too poor so you sold it and downgraded to a Bulova. Nothing wrong with that man just stop posting that ugly shit because we're all done with seeing it.
>>58620524
Dang.. Jews makes some pretty nice stuff.
If I were to put a brown leather strap on an snk809 would it make it a tad more formal
Looking for a new quartz. I know you all don't really like bulova but talk to me about their accutron line.
>>58621042

we don't really like quartz either
>>58621042
>>58621042
quartz
your in the wrong place my friend
>>58621078
>>58621133
Well I have a few mechanicals but that's not the question I'm asking. I just want to know how good the accutrons are
>>58620630
Pls I can literally buy it right now, but also its just stupid in the end to spend more than 500$ on a piece of timekeeping device. The value is not there anymore for me at least. Also I own my own centrally located, roomy apartment, debt free etc. It's not a question of money you poorfuck, who thinks his literal 3k babby tier "expensive" watch is some god send while it's made in china in some sweatshop while he is under the illusion of the marketing department that it's being hand crafted by mountain jews in the money laundering country. Now suck my penis(quartz)
>>58621362
>its just stupid in the end to spend more than 500$ on a piece of timekeeping device.
With this logic it's stupid to spend more than maybe 20$.
>>58621513
>>58621362
And especially dumb to own multiple watches.
Everyone should buy an F-91W and be done with it.
>>58621581
>be done with it
... specifically being arrested and sent to Guantanamo. That kind of puts a cramp on the watch collecting habit.
>>58613084
>>58621042
the new ones, accutron II? they're ok, the high frequency is a cool novelty. they eat through batteries faster than a regular quartz.
i'm not a fan of the designs, but if you like one of them they're not bad watches.
>>58621362
You sold your speedmaster when you were disappointed no one gave you attention and complimented you on it.
Now you're trying to act like you're informed and have set an arbitrary limit of 500 dollars as when a purchase becomes "stupid."
You're a pathetic poster. You have no idea what you're talking about. You imitate another tripcode for who knows why. And you try and talk about issues like you're an authority. You're talking shit about people spending 3k on an Omega when that was YOU just a few weeks ago.
>>58621581
>>58621517
Well a watch in todays society is jewelry mostly, and jewelry isnt 10$ cheap though, but any cheap under 500$ "swiss" quartz is high end for 95â„… of the population.
>>58621767
Fuck youre stupid for still falling for that ONE troll post. Most compliments I have recieved were on my Invicta, true, but I would never really sell a watch because of that. I sold it because I dont really care about watches anymore and Im just here to shit on you addicts and inform new poster theres literally no need to spend thoundsands when you get the same experience for hundreds anyway. This thread is exactly like the HPG thread, you dont get "better" sound but different sound if you pay more.
>>58621767
Also stop posting that, I know its you NineGagg
>>58621769
That's my point.
Anything beyond your 10$ is jewelry and aesthetics.
As this is subjective it can reach infinity.
You can't call a subjective opinion stupid, just because it doesn't correlate with yours.

I've said it before, I have over 22k post count on NineBall!!MfG. If I'm going to post I'm not going to do it without bumping my number. I let falcon get way ahead of me during my years off /g/.
I'm sorry I pointed out the fact that omega is "related to timekeeping on space mission" and how the "spacelikeness" of the Bulova is just weird bullshit. But just because of that doesn't mean everyone who disagrees with you is me.
And I don't take screenshots of my own posts.
>>58621954
Breh, zoom out. we can't even see the entire arm here. We need to see the lower part of your arm to understand a true visual size reference.
>>58622108
I know that, I use your tripfag name as an memetic insult, you should almost feel grateful for that.
>>58621954
>>58622108
Also, lug to lug is not lug width (strap width.)
Lug to lug is the measurement from the tip of the lugs to the tip of the other set at the opposite side of the watch.
Lug width effects shape and proportionality, but lug to lug actually effects how it wears (in combo with how much the lugs may be angled, curved, or how bracelets attach to them.)

Cw trident quartz vs the steinhart ocean? Or something else?
I'm a total watch noob and I've never worn a watch. I'd like to see if I wear it regularly before buying something expensive. My budget is around £400 but would increase a bit if it's worth it. Any ideas please?
Essential homages to be aware of? So far I know of the Rodina (Nomos) and the Hamilton field watch(?)

That you aren't him, it's a joke, a meme, an insult. Mostly to amuse me, and to mock that poorfag loser.

Steinhart Ocean one, Invicta pro diver, Tisell Marine Diver, Alpha Daytona, Parnis Marina Militare 44mm

redundancy if the dive computer fails, and you're diving alone
or if you're just doing a short, no-deco dive. although I'd still prefer a dive computer to a watch.
>>58624608
Every reissue is going to be different half a century down the road. Do you also think a reissue has to be made with the same machines that produced the original? Show me a reissue that is identical to the one that was first produced that's not an actual attempt at recreating the entire watch to minute details.
>>58622916
Tissel. The flieger watch is also very good.

My watch recently stopped working and I need to send it to a repair shop. What is better, local watch makers or ones I send in for repair? And how advanced are these send in repairs compared to a local business?

What kind of watch is it?

whats the best way to buy through chrono24? Do you guys just base it entirely on the seller, how do you decide if a private seller or some random russian store is full of shit or not?
My dad asked me to pick out a watch for my 21st birthday, and I picked out a watch that's the exact same as one that he owns. Would it be weird for us to have matching watches?
the fact is, times have changed, men have more protein and vitamins in their diets these last 50 years , wrist sizes have expanded. It's not just fat, but actual bone structure and individual bone density. Thats why any watch below 40mm is considered a female timepiece. I admit, even I was late to catch on and foolishly ordered a 40mm watch, sitting on the razors edge between male/female like a transvestite or tranny, now my gf wears that watch
>>58629347
did you already know he owned it?
>>58629349
>It's not just fat
Keep telling yourself that
>>58629373
No.
>>58629384
as long as you don't work at the same business it's not really THAT weird then imo
also not that I'm trying to imply anything but I'm almost surprised he didn't just give it to you
>>58629412
Alright. He's going to let me look at the watch in person and I feel like if I say that I like it he will just end up giving it to me.
Hi I owned a Hamilton Khaki. If *felt* cheap. Also who wants a display back on a field watch. No screw-down crown. No AR-coating.
Can anyone recommend a better field watch up to $2K

It's not a rare design. I like the Lip De Baschmakoff from the 70s myself, with the lugs over the case.
Anyone know where I can get a nice THICC zulu strap?

>>58630243
I got one and it sucks. Thick means stiff.
Good god this thread is a clusterfuck. In case you needed proof having a tripfag around was a bad idea.
>>58630360
I don't mind stiff nylon, kinda prefer it sometimes actually
Where did you get yours? Can you post a picture bro?
>>58630389
Crown and buckle. I got their thickest zulu. It wasn't very good quality either, so I wouldn't recommend them. The holes fray super easily.
I'd need to heat them up I suppose, but I just put it in a drawer and haven't looked back because it was too stiff.
I could post a pic later.
>>58630428
Yeah I've heard C&B are over priced for the quality you get.
Strap brands don't get posted too often here sadly.
Any other suggestions?

From what i've read, timefactors straps are really great. But they only have like 2 colours so i never tried them.
Check out the guide in the op too.

>>58630859
You forgot your trip.
Someone explain NATO straps to me.
Why do grown men want to make their watches look like kids' watches?
>>58631246
They're comfy
>>58631246
They were a thing for divers/military, because they can be easily resized and fit over suits, hold the watch in two separate places (so even if one fails the watch doesn't fall), and most mil watches had fixed lugs so you could only use one piece straps.
There are many reasons you would use one. To play james bond, to play military. Because you like the look. Because they make a watch more casual. Because they're comfortable (in heat especially). Because they're easy to switch for a different look.
>>58631246
It's only the colorful ones that are kiddy.
I have black NATOs and they don't look kiddy.
Remember: originally, these were military straps.
>>58631246
Natural rubber NATO straps are the most comfortable straps in existence.

>>58631246
>very comfy, double thickness of strap under the case, no actual contact between case and wrist
>very affordable and easy to swap, allowing you to adapt the strap to your daily style every day if you want to
>can hold the watch by a single springbar
>nylon is incredibly durable, can stand salt water and shocks, dries quickly, can be washed, and if you put more than $8 on it, it will look as good as new for well over a decade
>also exists in leather, silicone and perlon
>countless colors and styles
That's why.
