Visual Studio is an IDE. It's great for debugging and developing Windows applications, but beyond that it's a shitty generic editor like Notepad or Gedit.

If you aren't using an editor that can modify itself (Vim, Emacs, (Sublime and Atom to a lesser extent)), then you're limiting your text editing capabilities.

I don't want to learn a new editor every couple years because there is a new meme editor.

Also atom still doesn't have a terminal UI so I have to use another editor in the terminal.

Emacs and vim are great because they are actively maintained and you can assume you will only ever need to learn one editor.
