just got the pxc-550's, wondering if anyone can help me find some better pads to replace the faux leather pads that come with it. Can anyone help? Are Velour pads a meme or are they really good?

Pic related is them

for reference I currently have the IM50s because I was recommended them for durability a couple years ago.

One earbud isn't working and the cable is all mangled. A replacement cable seems to be about 30 at minimum, but they're 50 new now anyway

Id like to avoid this

Does anybody here own the HE560 and a little dot mkII and can comment on how that amp pairs with the headphones?

I'm think about downgrading my current tube/MOSFET for a push/pull amp but I'm not sure how that will work with a planar magnetic headphone.
>>
>>58575502
Velour pads are good if theyre well made. You wouldn't want velour pads on an ANC headphone. The whole point of ANC is to reduce outside noise, which velour doesn't do.

Larger pads like HM5 pads may also fuck with the ANC too. I'm not sure.

HM5 pleathers would probably work, though I'm not sure how the PCX550's attatch their pads, so you may have issues there.
>>
>>58576123
might I be stuck with the pxc's ear pads? If so fug
>>
>>58576135
Potentially. You could probably stretch the pad over the cup like most people do with headphones that use unconventional pad attachment methods, though that may not work if there are Bluetooth/ANC/whatever controls around the side. Not familiar with that headphones so I cant say if it will or won't work.

What are good replacement pads for HD600 that won't fuck up it's sound? Stock one's are nice and thick, but a hole cup in them is too small for my ears, HD 598 pads have much better fit with my ears but they are also less thick.

So, a friend just bought a Sound Balster sound card. He has an HD598. How bad did he fuck it? He didn't want to pay a lot for a DAC/AMP.

Another friend is getting the HD598se and he may get that cheap AMP/DAC from schiit. Should he save some money for a better or even separate AMP/DAC?

He did fine, as long as it doesnt have a high output impedance.

>Another friend is getting the HD598se and he may get that cheap AMP/DAC from schiit. Should he save some money for a better or even separate AMP/DAC?
No. The Schiit Fulla 2 is plenty enough.

>>58578139
So noise is the issue? What exactly is your setup? Do you hear noise when absolutely nothing is playing? Does the noise level amplify when you turn up the volume? Have you tried unplugging the input to your amplifier and listened to the noise of the amplifier alone assuming this is possible?
>>
>>58578196
Yes. I think the random high frequency/white noise at high volume when nothing plays making the clipping in my audio when the bass impact appears and sometime pure sound which is even worst. I have origen+ and I know for a fact that high impedance for powering ''powerful'' headphones is just a meme. My cans have low impedance, around 38, and they sound amazing and the bass is fine and impactful, but it's really kills the joy of listening to music that I enjoy, like bass oriented chill out songs.

Also im using apo for killing the highs in high volumes.

Im seriously need some king of a suggestion.
>>
>>58578139
So if I get your question right, you're asking if hearing some white noise at high volumes is normal with out anything playing.

Are you turning the volume WAY up. Like if you played music at that volume would you be in pain listening to it? Do you hear this hiss at volumes you would listen to music?

The noise floor of different amps are different. Solid state amps usually have a low noise floor meaning that at normal volumes you don't hear any hiss but at very loud volumes you might get a little usually from the power converter. Tube amps suffer from all kinds of interference including them amplifying noise around you like the vibration of traffic outside your window, your refrigerator's compressor kicking on, and any ambient noise. Tube amps do produce hiss but also produce hums and sometimes very subtle ringing sounds.
>>
>>58578334

>>
>>58578345
do you get the clipping with apo turned off?
>>
>>58578332
How is the Origen connected? Optical or USB? Post the setup you use on EQ APO.

I'm uncertain whether you actually understand impedance but you shouldn't worry about it unless it's low. That can clip the amplifier.
>>
>>58578345
also having a hiss at high volumes is normal like I said and if this normal amp hiss then it would have nothing to do with causing low end clipping.
>>

You don't see?>>58578476
>>
>>58578604
I'm not a scrub so I don't use EQs on nice equipment. From the looks of the chart you're have a marked decrease in the 150 to 20hz audio range which is where bass resides. If you're getting clipping in the bass I'd bet money that you're fucking it up by screwing with the signal with out knowing what you're doing. You're also unwilling to try to see if the clipping is occurring with out using the eq so I guess you're just fucked. Sell everything and rebuy all new shit to see if that fixes it.
>>
>>58578604
I'm interested if the clipping happens with ES10s equally. That could narrow this down.

Turn off EQ APO. Does it make a difference?

Try another USB port, preferably one which is behind a different USB controller. If you don't have motherboard which has multiple USB controllers, maybe try another PC? If you don't have that but are able to test the Origen with optical and DC power, try that, too.

>>58578681
>I'm not a scrub so I don't use EQs on nice equipment
No equipment nice enough which wouldn't benefit from properly applied equalization.
>>
>>58578127
> but what will I do when the elastics start to give in to wear?

>>

>I'm not a scrub so I don't use EQs on nice equipment
EQ should be used on everything. Not a single headphone has a perfect FR.
>>
>>58578723
>Turn off EQ APO

>Try another USB port, preferably one which is behind a different USB controller
I don't think it made any difference

>If you don't have that but are able to test the Origen with optical and DC power
The optical. How the hell should I connect it? in origen+? It's fucking weird, am i just retarded? Also dc will be next

Im really want to enjoy my music and experiencing it as it supposed, but because of that reason I just can't

>>58578681
Wow rude. You know what? I just listened to some music without apo and it sounded mostly better in certain tracks
>>
>>58578961
>How can i experience the bass and the lowend without loudness?
By getting the frequency response right and having a comfortable listening volume with it. Most can be achieved with proper equalization. In some cases better pair of headphones is required.

>How the hell should I connect it
You need an optical S/PDIF(Toslink) terminated cable and a corresponding digital audio output from the device(PC for example) you play the music from.
>>
>>58578884
Sure if you're into distorting what you're listening to and tuning your ear to hear things wrong and nothing sounding right. EQing is a pitfall that you can't crawl out of.
>>
>>58579044
But believe me, WS1100is are good cans. It just has something to do with electrical issues or binary digits aren't coming so well through my pc.

>You need an optical S/PDIF(Toslink) terminated cable and a corresponding digital audio output from the device
Oh yeah? and how am i supposed to connect it?
>>
>>58579131
>It just has something to do with electrical issues or binary digits aren't coming so well through my pc.
And making sure that is the case, using a different load(different set of headphones) is required.

>Oh yeah? and how am i supposed to connect it?
Like I originally said, IF you can. Your computer(or some other source device) should have SPDIF output connector. Cheaper motherboards and vast majority of laptops do not have it. Home theater gear and TVs often do feature it.
>>
>>58578463
>They are glued on my dude.
Wut. The earpads are not glued?
>>
>>58579174
Can you show me your equalization presets?

>using a different load

> Cheaper motherboards and vast majority of laptops do not have it
>Home theater gear and TVs often do feature it
What? I don't get it? elaborate further for a retard like me and don't get mad okay? How the hell am i supposed to connect optical to this shitty device? And if already i really want to buy a better dac/amp later on if that's the issue.

Then it's definitely one of the "upstream" components. If you turned off the EQ and it didn't help get rid of the clipping, then it's very likely one of your devices. Can you connect the Origen to another PC?

For optical you need:

1. an optical cable with Toslink connectors(pic related)
2. a device that can output digital audio in optical
3. a device that can input digital audio in optical(your Origen)

Low end was slightly reduced. Other than that they sounded pretty much the same. It doesn't really matter though since only reason to own a T50RP is to mod them.
>>
>>58580143

>>58582328
The headphones are suited for live recordings and classical music. They are not made for over produced and synthetic sound. The base lacks the impact of beyers and punch of grados. I have a pair of 702's and a tube/MOSFET hybrid amp and they will never sound good with music that requires bass impact or overproduced music no matter what I throw at it.

I think that idea comes from people buying them for the wrong music and complaining about it. I use them only for live recordings particularly chamber music and they excel at that. You benefit from an amp but any old amp will do. I use a fancy tube amp but honestly I'm not 100 percent sure I could pass an ABX test between it and the yamaha preamp I got off of craigslist.
>>
>>58582392

How do you niggers know when your music is too loud?

If I play some music then mute it, as soon as I mute it I hear and feel my ears retract for a second, sounds like crinkling paper or water in my ears. Thing is it happens even at super low listening levels too, so I dunno if I just have messed up ears.

While that makes sense it makes me think they're plugged into a macbook.

I went from DT-770s to these and I don't find the bass lacking at all. Maybe my ears are fucked.

Probably. Or maybe he's still not adjusted from his old phones. I haven't actually heard any of the headphones in that series, so my giggle was influenced by meme bias.
>>
>>58582490
>Anyone have experience with these?
Midbass Galore, top candidate for my headphone archnemesis. Isolation is kinda poor from the venting.
>smooth sounding iem
Unfortunately, it has a couple too many peaks in the treble for that. Finding IEMs without treble peaks is exceedingly difficult, the physics of the small sizes works against you. The cold reception to proper damping filters makes it harder.

It's also somewhat hard to not end up with MEGA-bass in an IEM when you fit it well, for a somewhat different reason.

>I've read the bass is can sound a bit overdone
Unusually for a Senn IEM, the low bass isn't very boosted, at least at the minimum setting. The knob controls the subbass vent, but the upper bass/low mid boost that defines the IE8 and IE80 isn't affected. It has the big lift somehwere around 150-200 Hz.

So I did it boyyyyyz, got an Element for my HD600. Unfortunately when I was finally able to listen to it, moved to new country, I rip my left ear to the point of it ringing, presumably with how loud I went on one song, I still can't believe I am that retarded and vine here is so cheap. So I am giving my ears a rest, but here is little review of Element plz don't bully I can't write like a human bean.

First of all bass, it became noticeably tighter and controlled so I could hear it better in many songs. Funny thing, in one particular song it decreased noticeably in comparison to my stock macbook, but overall it became less boomy and loose.

Second, there is differently more detail to HD600 with an Element. Playing a track I heard an instrument that went unnoticed before, blending somewhere on the background. There was also this one particular song that I really liked, but it sounded really messy, giving an impressions that all kinds of instrument and sounds just scrambled together into one big mess. Element fixed that, things became clear and it was just much easier to listen to this song, I could now hear how different instrument played out. As some may say Element added more 'air' to songs.

Overall Element made things sound more apart and not as mixed as before. Vocals also sounded clearer. One unfortunate thing I did notice is that some of my songs (alle are flac) were poorly recorded and in some parts there was a bit of noise. At first I thought that there might be some problem with Element, but it was persistent and in particular moments, it's just on mac alone it was much harder to pick it out.

I hope my ears gets unfucked soon so I can listen more to Gypsy Kings and test Element more. Also, it's sexy as fuck and I would literally copulate with it's knob if I could. I feared that it would be too big and would stick out on my desk, but it actually rather elegant and tucked along well with my mac.
>>
>>58583386

Also, I did notice a difference between low gain and high gain in terms how things sound like. On high gain there were definitely more bass, but on low gain things sounded a bit 'clearer'. Which gain is most optimal for HD600? Manual says the least possible is always a better solution. I didn't really expect it to change sound in any way.
>>
>>58583409
>I did notice a difference between low gain and high gain in terms how things sound like.

Using HD598cs at work, tight but tolerable, good sound. Using SHP9500s at home, so comfy but not the best sound, even with EQ.

Rejects:
Fidelio X2 - Best sound, but a splitting headache after using them for a day's work
Phillips A5-Pro - Like a goddamn vise, returned
MDR V6 - So fucking uncomfortable I couldn't stand it for more than half an hour
MDR-1A - Not bad sound, but after three days of wearing them the pain is back.

The SHP9500s is the most comfy pair of headphones I've found so far - are there any other phones that have their fit, but are closed and/or have better sound?

I mean having improved source of income and an dac/amp altogether is not a win win situation?
>>

I think I kinda figure it out. It's the usb shitty ports. Some sounded super static.

how do i fix it? also im buying optical adapter for my dac/amp. Will it fix my issue or what should I do with my usb set up?

no but they're like a quarter of the price and you won't have to wait like a month for them
also piston 3.0 is better in everything but looks compared to piston 2.0

>>58591933
even with shitty usb ports, it shouldn't cause that
though if that IS the problem, I assume the only REAL solution is to get a new motherboard, especially if it's the usb ports at the back that are staticy

I honestly don't know anything about optical shit so I can't talk about that, also /hpg/ is pretty slow, so usually you won't get much responses immediately or even in the first hour

Please don't tell me that, I don't have any money anymore

can you suggest me a better solution? also when I reloading a page in browser the static is increases.

Sorry for the late answer.
I use Shure HPAEC1540 pads on my 600s.
They have a bigger earhole than the vanilla sennheiser pads but are just a tad too large so i had to fix them with a little removable glue. Soundwise they are not too different either. I hope i was able to help a little
>>
>>58592650
How did you attach the pads?
>>
>>58592681
I glued the new pads and the plastic rings of the vanilla pads together (yes, i had to destroy them)
After putting them on the headphone i just glued all the loose spots

The soundblaster Z is a good card. I have HD 598s too. But I had to return the card.

Just watch out for the volume. The amp is very powerful for the specs of the HD598, and I'm convinced that someone could get hearing damage pretty quickly, if something goes wrong.

In my case, something DID go wrong, which was my worst fear

>Be listening to music one night
>Switch to the next song, to realize that all the sound has this sort of bitcrush effect to it
>Test the outputs by recording from my microphone
>All audio coming into/out of the soundcard sounds like this
>Disable the device in Devmgmt to reset it
>Suddenly this horrid fucking screeching, roaring noise comes out of my headphones at max volume
>Shut off the computer in terror

I wasn't wearing my headphones when my Soundblaster Z decided to become possessed (thank christ), but it was still loud enough to scare the shit out of me nonetheless.

This video shows a guy with the EXACT same problem I had: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8hvxele5crc

Apparently it's caused by overclocking your CPU.
>>
>>58592650
>Sorry for the late answer.
I've asked people here like 4 times about it and you were the first one to reply, thank you. I asked about sound change because here it was measured that different pads do change sound, but these looks to be thick one, how thick they are in comparison to stock ones?

Yeah, I guess.

Good for you if you've never had something like that happen with computer hardware.

It's a shame too, because it's a really nice sound card, with great features and software.

The equalizer is great, because it seems to raise the master volume and lower the non equalized frequencies. There's no clipping, like a lot of generic EQs.

Basically, I could raise the low-end to driver rattling levels, while being at a relatively comfortable volume.

Anyways, v-moda m-100 zozzler checking in.

They're not the most comfortable, but they have 2 braided cables and great bass, a compact hard case that looks like batman's face. Also I got them for 135 dollars with a free v-moda boompro :>

My ears stick out about 90 degrees.
Pic related isn't me, but this is how my ears are.
Does this affect how I hear music from over-ear headphones, particularly my perception of soundstage?
My ears will touch the fabric in front of the transducers, but I'm not sure if my ears are really blocking that much of the sound.
>>
>>58593692
What makes you say that? Or was this another bad bait.
>>
>>58575473
I prefer the dt770's (I have the 80 ohm). Good bass response but isn't overpowering, soundstage is good (especially for closed back), and decent mids/highs.

The only complaint that I have is the cable is way too long, but that can be modded if you want.

Rarely is music discussed unless people's autism sensors go off when they see this.
>>
>>58593357
They are definitely deeper than the vanilla pads
I did not do a direct comparison but the change in souns wasn't noticable to me
>>58593520
They need a few seconds to deflate after you put the headphone on but after that they are more comfy and spacious than the hd600 pads
The material they use ( some super special stuff that is also used in some supersport cars because it is lighter than leather) feels very nice in your hands and on your ears
>>
>>58593947

What's the hard part here, anon? This is a technology discussion board which mainly focuses on the software and hardware side of things, how devices operate and work, what are good products to buy etc. This is separate from the art which people may or may not play back with their setup or use their (hopefully) broadened understanding of audio to do something else. While there are cases where things overlap, it shouldn't be a surprise that we don't start a music sharing chatroom here, especially when there's an entire board dedicated for music.
