Yeah I've tried doing the whole ipconfig /renew steps to fix it and it spits out this error. "An error occurred while renewing interface Ethernet : unable to contact your DHCP server. Request has timed out." DHCP is definitely turned on in the router, I checked.

To add though, if I try going to the router address (192.168.1.1) it tries to point me to the LuCI OpenWRT login instead and the Linksys Smart Wifi thing simply says it's unavailable. I'm thinking that maybe the flash from OpenWRT to OEM was dirty in someway and there is a weird conflict occurring between the two. This might be nothing however.

What are you talking about? If you're not rooted, nothing will happen. If you're rooted, nothing will happen unless it has root access which it will have to ask SuperSU for anyways. Just use an antivirus like Malwarebytes. That should be all you need and you're good.

Or install it on Bluestacks or Nox (?) first to test it, but you don't need to go that far.

Why do I keep getting hangup phone calls from random local restaurants late at night?

Is there some program someones using to call me and make it appear like whatever number they want or some weird shit?

They always call twice, and only twice, exactly 1 min apart.
>>
>>58523061
Impossible. Well, possible, but some neckbeard won't be doing it.

I used to get those too. They're robots. I answered one time and they said press 1 to never get a call again and surprisingly it worked. They too called from random numbers all the time. So it was, in theory, impossible to stop them.

The others just keep calling. I use MrNumber or whatever it's called. It's shit, but it blocks the call in a way that they can't leave voicemail. Which they do to spam the shit out of me and my notifications. It works for most spam, but I set it to contacts only and now I don't even worry about it. No issues anymore.
>>
>>58523061
You installed an app and sold your phone number to a company.
Your phone is in the botnet, those are all bot calls.

Im not kidding.

Think of email spam mail but with calls and more annoying.

So, i have this old Sony Vaio laptop with Intel Pentium B980 cpu and Radeon HD 7650M card.
My video card died a few days ago and now I can only use the laptop for browsing internet/watching non-hd videos in 1024x768 resolution. It says its using Microsoft Basic Adapter on devices.
My questions are- Can i just used my processor as a video card since apparently the B980 cpu supports Intel HD graphics and if yes, why cant i install the HD graphics drivers from intel on it?(i get "this computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software " error)

My new PC build won't connect with HDMI. It was working fine with it for a short while and then after the PC went into sleep mode the monitor said no signal. Anyone have any experience using spss?

I need to filter the rows in a particular dataset according to whether the value of a variable in a given row matches any value of that variable in a separate dataset.

So say I have dataset1:
Procedure
5
7
1
8

And dataset2:
Procedure...date...time
1...2011...4:00
1...2012...3:00
2...2008...2:00
3...2008...4:00
7...2016...6:00
5...2013...5:00
6...2011...7:00

So after filtering dataset2 by comparing its Procedure values to those listed in dataset1, I'd get:
Procedure...date...time
1...2011...4
1...2012...3
7...2016...6
5...2013...5

Basically, all the rows in dataset2 whose Procedure value didn't correspond to one listed in dataset1 were deleted.

Anyone have any suggestions on the commands / syntax I could use to achieve the above?

thanks, /g/

you really should peel them all because if you steam them not all bacteria may have died, unlike if you had hardboiled them. That said if you leave them sealed they hold for a couple days, marinated in any sodium should be longer, but you honestly should just pickle them instead if you wanna make large amounts of eggs and want them to keep. There's tons of things to pickle them in, including soy and ginger, you can find recipes online.

"the system cannot be loaded because the hal contains errors"

The options it gives me are "Try Again" or booting into UEFI and changing the boot order to USB/Recovery.

All the troubleshooting options give nothing, windows says it cannot be repaired, refreshing the OS cannot be done from USB, and it says I cant even do a full reset because "this option is not supported when the PC is started using a recovery position"

Since I guess this shits fucked, what linux distro is the lightest that can still use WINE? I need something that can run kindle for PC with as little overhead as possible.

Few questions about backing up shit.

Currently I have my OS on a 250GB SSD and my media on a 1TB HDD. I occasionally back up my important config and log files to the HDD. I know this is a shitty setup and not the safest say to do things.

>What is better for overall data protection, internal RAID1 or periodic backups to an external drive?
>I plan to move my media over to 2 x 4TB HDDs in RAID1, is it a good idea to RAID1 my SSD with my now leftover 1TB HDD?
>>
Okay so my only experience with linux is Hirens / Medicat and Mini XP/7/10 that we use at work for data recovery and testing HDD's.

What is the advantage of installing an actual distro on my pc as opposed to booting into on off a usb drive?

If I just use my PC for gaming why would I want linux? I have a spare 128gb ssd lying around and im bored as shit so if anyone can recommend distro to try out I will give it a shot

I normally have a backup of every one of my disks but I have a gut feeling something bad's about to happen and want to download as much animeme as possible. This means no backup. I've actually never experienced a hard drive failure so I don't know how they actually fail, I mean whether they die slowly and gracefully or without warning.

In anons experience how do they tend to fail? How likely is it one day when I plug my animeme hard drive it completely refuses to spin and all is lost?

harddrives don't just fart and fail like that. Just take into account that the typical consumer hard drive is not meant to be spinning all the time, whereas the typical NAS harddrive can deal with that. Some drives also start failing more gracefully so you have time to detect it and save your shit before it breaks down completely. Examples would be if the drive would suddenly come up with bad sectors, or when files start becoming randomly corrupted.

If you're really worried about dying drives, just replace them every 5-6 years. Even though they might live much longer than that, I have 10 year old drives here that aren't showing any sign of decay yet.

I just opened up my computer to replace my motherboard after having watched a fuck ton of youtube videos on the subject.

But when I actually looked at where my fans were connected it turns out they all run to this multi-connector thing on the back.
I have not prepared for this.

Do I need to do anything special to get this to work with my new set up?
I do currently have 4 fans installed and my new motherboard only has 3 non-cpu fan slots.
>>

But that multi connector thing is probably your Power Supply Unit (PSU).

That's not a power supply you dingus, that's a fan hub. You plug in all your fans to it and you plug a power cable into the hub in order to power the fans. Read your case's manual or whatever.

>>
>>58527308
The name of the manufacturer is most of the time printed somewhere on the case, either outside or on the inside (inside is rare tho in my experience), from there on you'll have to put in some google work to find the correct manual for your case.
You could also always ask the person who build your PC if you still have contact with them.

There's probably controllers built into your case so you can still control fan speed.
You could always plug them into your motherboard, there should be small pins on your mainboard labeled with "Case fan" or something similiar.

All other parts (case, PSU, RAM, drives) I either already have or are cheap enough not to matter. Except the drives, I'll have to buy those in increments.

Seeing as I'm a third worlder, a brand new AM1 system with an Athlon 5350 would be almost twice the price of the used mobo and CPU I just listed, and performance should be comparable if not worse in that case. I'm already saving up for a new graphics card so I'm kind of strapped for cash. What do you guys think is the best course of option?

either i7-7700 or 7700K.

I don't mind sight price difference. The clock variation (3.6 compared to 4.2) seems relatively small while the slowe CPU consumes 30% less energy thus will produce a lot less heat.

Should I even consider taking K version if I'm not going to overclock something that already can burn a hole in my desk?

Anyone had experience setting up openvpn? Having issues where it looks like everything is working fine but TCP connections don't seem to actually work.

Using tcpdump I can see the request leave the client as expected (tun device, then encrypted over the nic) and the request reaches the server (in through nic encrypted, through tun, out through nic unencrypted.) So far so good.

But the request doesn't seem to return. tcpdump shows that the response comes in through the servers nic, but never makes it to the tun to be encrypted and sent out again.

if you're replacing a standard HDD, just go for a 2.5" SATA.
the thing is, you will notice a significant gain in loading speeds (OS) from upgrading HDD->SSD, but when it comes to different brands, the difference is not that noticeable anymore, so given choice of a "performance" and and "value" SSD, I wouldn't bother spending more.
a Crucial BX100 series or Samsung 850 Evo (without the Pro) is probably the best choice here.

if you want to go a (noticeable) step further and performance is the absolute must for you, you'd want an m.2 SSD drive. but that costs more and you would be limited to the architecture of your motherboard (not every mobo supports it).

best refer to the logical increments guide if you want to know more.

what would you be using the laptop for?

gaming? then the base 7700 would be perfect. you wouldn't need to overclock because it already has enough power

video/photo editing/rendering/modelling/data mining?

then get the K. hyperthreading allows for a ton of processing but with an overclock you could eek out a bit more.

but, it's a laptop and there's not much room for cooling, especially with a power hungry GPU/CPU combo like that. so if you buy the K and overclock it, get ready to deal with a heat pump.

turbo boost works by overclocking your CPU, to the Max Frequency (probably 4.4GHz in your case) by doing 133MHz steps. downside of that is if it goes over your standards clock speed it will shut down cores to compensate the extra energy/temperature. so when it OC to 4.4GHz it will shut down all cores but one.

that's useful for these applications which require speed but don't utilise extra cores

You should probably ask this question in /sci/

In any case, I wouldn't recommend using SPSS for this kind of work. R or SAS is much simpler and more powerful.

For instance, the operation you're asking for is done in one line in R:

dataset3 <- merge(dataset1, dataset2, by = "Procedure")

Since I don't want to make a whole thread for this - my PC recently seems to freeze up, except it seems to be stuff like task manager, firefox, explorer.exe only, not the whole deal with mouse cursor freezing up on top of it all, any idea what it could be caused by?

Anyone have any idea what this signal is? Pic related is a spectrogram of the first bit of some audio I found ages ago, can't remember where. It sounds kinda like modem noise, I can provide a mega link to the mp3 if anyone wants

It's probably not even anything interesting or particularly meaningful, maybe just one of the more elaborate spoopy things that /b/ comes up with every now and then, but I've tried figuring it out and I can't

most effective method at eliminating HDD vibration noise in aluminium PC cases? I've got a Lian Li PC-09 and it seems to be a rare enough case, so I haven't run into any people people talking about and solving my issue. I temporarily suspended it (the HDD) with elastic yesterday and whilst I could still hear all the clicks, whirs and clunks clear as ever (it's a v. noisy wdc wd4004fzwx-00gbgb0), the "bass"-like omph behind each noise caused from the case vibration was dramatically decreased; it's already got rubber bits on all the screws and I've tried putting the HDD in the middle and top/bottom of the bay to see if that would make a difference, which it didn't

pls

this is driving me (and my main worry is my neighbours, whose master bedroom is adjoined to my office wall [I can hear it in my bathroom which is also connected to said office]) absolutely fucking insane

Will the old image having wrong drivers for everything cause boot issues or can I boot in and safely delete/upgrade drivers?

Is there any way to make my microphone pick up the computer's sound output? I had a mic that malfunctioned and accidentally did it, and I found it to be useful.
>>
OK so I'm a private torrent tracker and I want to be able to seed and be able to use music files at the same time without having to create two copies of the same files just to seed them.

I have my music download folder set up in MusicBee but whenever I try to change any metadata such as tags the file itself changes and obviously that conflicts with the torrent client and it goes back to an incomplete download whenever I restart my client and it goes over the metadata I have changed.

What can I do to resolve this? This is probably a really stupid question.

Hi everyone.

I have a PNG image that I need to display on some LEDs. I need to convert the image into python so that every pixel of the PNG is reflected in the LEDs.

My old man gave me his laptop to fix. He's forced the charging port often, it's a single pin deal.

I took it to a repair shop. They've opened it and said it needs to be repaired or it won't work anymore as looking at the motherboard means you have to remove all the charging connectors.

They're wanting to charge £120 for the repairs, but I've said I just want the laptop back in the condition I brought it in as it's not worth spending that amount of money.

They're saying they can't. I'm calling total BS on that.

I signed a waver regarding data loss but nothing stating if we fuck up your conputer mechanically we don't have to repair it if you don't wanna fix the original problem.

In my mind they've put it into a worse state than when I than when I took it.

Advice? I'm saying I'll get it fixed for like £70 but they're being funny and want £80. Sound like cowboys to me.

I'm trying to install RAM into my new motherboard.

I got two sticks for dual channel, but while looking at the manual the two slots next to each other is apparently same channel but it's recommended to install them in every other slot like dual channel configurations are usually positioned.
They are not color coded so that's no help.

It's a Z170 Pro Gaming Carbon.
Any idea of how I should install them?

So my computer is running all programs horribly slow (videos aren't loading normally, programs freeze up and delay for minutes at a time over what they USED to be able to do with ease, sometimes even right-clicking something will cause the computer to slow down and not process it for a few seconds) and I'm trying to get through all the usual suspects of what is wrong with the thing, on the off-chance my hard drive breaking down ISN'T the cause.

It's not an error in the drive, it's not a PIO mode problem, it's not a virus (as far as I can tell), so is it just my hard-drive wearing out? Or am I missing something obvious here? I don't want you to do the work for me, just let me know if I've missed any other obvious diagnostic steps. I really want to make sure I'm taking all the chances I can before I just go and get a new hard drive, since I'll likely just buy a whole new computer at this point (everything besides the Ram and the GPU are from when I self-built it in June 2011, so it might just be time to replace the whole fucking thing, especially with tax returns coming up)
