So I finally got Fedex to admit they didn't know where my new keyboard was this weekend, and opened in investegation.
They found it this morning. In Oregon. After telling me it was in Utah for a week straight. When it was supposed to be in Washington 2 days ago.
I'll be getting it a week+ late, but at least it's not lost and I'm getting tracking updates again.

>>58514354

>reduce the number of keys
>add a bezel and take up as much vertical space as a 5-row keyboard
>>58517940
cherry, should have said that
>>58517616
They're my perfect switch. I love the increase in weight after actuation, so the bottom out is nice. The sound is great and they go well with almost every key profile. The bump is nice and big, and unlubed the friction is perfect. there is no better switch
>>58517616
too heavy but ergo clears might be nice
>>58517940
Gateron clears are like 35g and linear.
MX Clears are heavier and tactile.
If Gateron made an MX Clear clone I would choose that. I think Zealios are their clone.
>>58517968
Practicality isn't the concern here.
Pic related is to show off the acrylic bottom. So the guy who commissioned it can look underneath his keyboard and admire the silkscreen print he wants to have there.
>>58518186

>>58518783
Build your own.
>>58518633
That's the JIS HHKB, the HHKB Pro JP.
That layout can be found in other Japanese boards, but they're usually larger.
>>58518633
>>58518903
None of those have F keys on the bottom row.
>>58518918
The bottom row still inputs normal keycodes.
>>58518918
>>58518941
I mean outputs.
You could use SharpKeys or AutoHotKey to remap your current keyboard closely to that layout.
>>58515460
How are the keycaps fitting? Nice and tite? Also how long did the shipping take, im in scandinavia so im guessing shipping will take 3-4 weeks to get from china...
>>58518783
Probably have to build your own or swap switches.
>>58517616
clears are too heavy for me. i like typing on them for like a single typing test, but cannot do it for very long.
i think matias quiet clicks are my favorite tactile switch so far (more tactile than browns, but seem a bit heavier, and also quieter), but all my keycaps are for mx stems and pretty much every MQC board i've tried have had some minor qc issue.
currently using a matias mini quiet pro at work. only one of my arrows keys occasionally doesn't register when i press it so it's about as good as i can hope for (which is still awful considering i've never had any such issues with $10 logitech/microsoft keyboards).
>>58518971

Wrong. I use an ergodox as my main keyboard, but I can use a regular shit staggered keyboard just fine.

>>58520782
90ish wpm normally, over 100 if I just wanna get "muh blazing fast wpms".
>>58520863
Well, the question should have been "do you touch type", which you probably do. So how do you switch to a different layout and not start missing keys all over the place?
anyone try speedlink velator? i could get it for cheap, the thing is it seems it has way too much bottom space so my wrists would always rest on it

>>58520887
I'm not as accurate with a regular staggered board if I just switch over, but there's still muscle memory from all the years I used it before switching to an ergodox.
You don't forget how to ride a bike even if you don't do it for a long time.
>>58520887

>>58520918
>>58520927
I don't understand that. I've had to use an ergonomic keyboard for a while and when I went back to a normal one, I was completely lost. I'm around 120 wpm normally, 130 when I push myself, if that's relevant.
>>58520976
Don't know what to tell you m8. Muscle memory is a hell of a thing.
>>58516137
Yes, but only if you get the pro models. So if you go Razer, get the Blackwidow Ultimate for brute force gaming or the Blackwidow Tournament for increased actions per minute. Make sure you get the RGB models because they have better electronics than the nonRGB models. Razer means better switches and faster response times so you can play League of Lesbians like a pro.

Shit like all new LEDs, clear switch tops, SIP sockets for easy LED swapping in the future, square LEDs and maybe a switch swap to ergo clears (currently using Browns).
Or maybe even go full madman and buy a Shine 5 and put that PCB into the Shine 3's case because I prefer how that looks, so I have both the 3's clean styling and the 5's RGB lighting.

I want to finish it eventually though. Got a few different case designs that I worked on but as student I cant afford to have a prototype milled out of aluminum and I'm not a fan of layered cases. There still are a few things I changed and have yet to change for the next PCB revision anyway.
>>58527592
What's the point of this honestly?
Standard 40% is barely usable and you made this 35% which is even more of a cancer to use?
>>58527617
That's a matter of opinion. I've been using prototypes of my keyboard to write code for many hours and tweaked the layout every now and then.
I can type up to 80wpm on it which isn't too bad compared to my 110wpm on the HHKB.
For coding WPM is even less important and it allows me to have a vim style navigation layer everywhere.
I just wanted a super portable mechanical keyboard and at the time I started there was nothing like it that you could buy. By now there are a couple 40% keyboards but since I got so far I'll finish my own instead so I have full control over hardware and software and can add features if I want to.

well with a 100% layout i got everything i need.
i can imagine a seperate numpad to be more comfortable so i would be up for that.
as for the switchtester that is another 20-30€ (i guess) which i really don't wanna spend.
I really don't want to spend more then 100€ i would be super happy with 80€.
Considering that i don't really have a lot of experience and play like 2 hours a day i dont think a switchtester is necessary.
Which one would you recommend anyways, you seem like you know what you're talking about.
I was super happy with my last keyboard which was a blackwidow ultimate.
Unfortunately Razer decided to shove their big black dicks in my far too small whiteboy anus and fuck me up cause i poured like 1 ml of cola in there and it was instantly broken
>>58527467
>SteelSeries Apex M500
It's the successor to the 6gV2 which is ok in terms of quality - the main thing that I've found with the 6gV2 is that it's indestructible. I can't vouch for the Apex but if it boasts the same sturdiness, it's definitely a plus.

Maybe get a Tomoko instead that way its somewhat spill resistant

Of course there are things that are better, but if you want a cheap one go for the tomoko.
>>58528285
its cheap as fuck so i ordered one, i'll report back if its shit or not
zealios are pre-lubed right?
think I'm gonna get an rgb poker and replace the switches with zealios and sell the stock ones to regain some money
>>58528665

why would you ever
>>58528665
Not sure about before, but now they're not lubed. Smoother than cherry MX, but imo smoothness is a bit overrated.
>>58528665
just get vintage cherry switches if you want smoothness

What is it keyboards and guns?
I would like the same keys that are on my Filco MT2, but in a different colour. Nordic layout. Where do I get this?
https://www.bhiner.com/taobao-agent/45435851956
These chinks are driving me crazy, is listed price for the number of switches in the brackets.
So lets say I want 70 switches, I would have to order 7x that item with 10 in the brackets, right?
So that would cost me 7 x $1.52 = $10,64
Idk $10 seems kinda too good of a price for 70 switches?

Probably as much as you seem to get bored shitposting with the same images over and over.
what is THE most tactile switch?
>>58530523
Depends on what you consider fluent.
I can talk Japanese and make myself understood quite well as well as explain day-to-day things. Things get more difficult when the topic becomes something specific such as academia or politics since I lack the vocabulary.
Yes, I've been to Japan and I spoke with natives.
>>58530557
I don't really get bored of it since I mainly come here for the discussion or for seeing new things that may interest me.
I just don't see the appeal in constantly rehashing the same design when you could be exploring new things instead.

Any reason to not get a Unicomp?
Would you guys recommend trying ebay to get pbt keys with blacklighting? I know they're rare.. The only ones I seem to find are white or black and I'm looking for some that are colored. I refuse to use aliexpress because they ask for too much personal info.
What mechanical keyboard is good for around $100 if all I care about is it being silent? I live in the US.
>>58527428
Are they asking you to give them pictures of your id/passport and credit card on both sides?
Hey mechanical fags, is there a type of switch that is very similar to the logitech PerfectStroke keys? They only have like one keyboard with it and it costs a fuckton and I dont want it.
>>58531109
Unicomp classic.
>>58531322
59 dollars is a fuckton?
>>58527428
the one on falbatech is nice and cheap.
>>58528133
Switches are highly subjective, this is why i would suggest a switch tester.
my personal favorites are gateron browns (or blues sometimes) and cherry clears. Some people like linears, some like buckling springs, alps, topre...
the coolermaster ones have okayish build quality for the price, the magicforce as well.
>>58531632
It says out of stock
>>58531122
Why would they do that?
I'm gonna order through a taobao agent
>>58531504
It costs more than that where I live. Also it has a huge bezel
>>58531828
Ask them to reorder and wait a few days i guess.
Are brown switches good for programming and some fps games?
>>58532068
Ok for typing, great for games.
>>58530925
They're loud. If noise isn't an issue then do give them a try. They have a very unique typing experince
>>58531034

I'm looking to get a WASD but don't want to color it myself.
Is there a site/forum where I could get design files for that thing?
>>58531855
The only thing that might be close to long travel scissor switches is topre and that will be a fuckton more expensive.
>>58532359
Get one without caps and buy nice ones. The stock ones are pretty meh.
>>58532083
Browns aren't really good for either. Linears are far nicer for games.
>>58532083
I got blues for games am i fucked
Ducky one PBT
>>58532451
no
you can play games with any switch, dont fall for the 'gaming switch' meme
yes, linears are easier to doubletap, but that's about it, and it shouldn't be that big of a deal unless you're playing shit at really high professional levels or whatever
>>58532359
get the bare bones version like>>58532388 said. WASD keycaps fade pretty fast so getting an aftermarket set for 40 bucks is a much better deal. Unless you absolutely need custom I'd suggest you look at MAX keycaps instead
>>58532451
sure there will be times when you'll notice it, but in the end, having "gaming" switches wont increase your dps, kdr, etc. if your shit to begin with
>>58532451
I have a Ducky One with blues and I don't have a problem when playing games
>>58532617
Blue version here better not be shit
>>58532625
blues are fine for gaming. As a matter of fact in Asia blues are marketed as the gaming switch and many starcraft players use blues in their tournaments. If they have no problems with blues then you shouldn't either

>>58532671

am i the only one that would be interested in a keyboard designed like this? i've always wanted a modular volume knob. left macro keys optional. rear auxiliary could replace them instead with an optional extra keyboard, such as a separate numpad for a TKL version, or simply an extra numpad for assigning macros. i've always wanted to have an extended, external keyset off to my left to assign macros for pushing sets of hotkeys for me, opening applications, media playback control, typing things out quickly, etc.

Thoughts on Das Keyboards? I really like their aesthetic and they seem like they'd be nice to use.
>>58532979
The newer the keyboard get the worse the build quality becomes, while the price stays the same. If you do want a Das keyboard get an older one with Cherry MX, before they switched to chink switches
>>58524817
Just got lube for my HHKB.
Can't wait to silence it even further.
I'm reluctant to get a 660c because I feel like I'd miss my 60% layout. and HHKB is out of the question because it's not sold here and I don't want to deal with import taxes.
>>58532671
>As a matter of fact in Asia blues are marketed as the gaming switch and many starcraft players use blues in their tournaments.
Things that are not remotely true for 500, Alex...
The worst part is it'd only take a few minutes to check what keyboards are popular with professional Starcraft players. (Hint: It's MX Reds)
>>58532098
Mmk.
Would you say they are better for typing o gaming?
>>58533608
nope blues and browns are more popular. Heck when cherry made the g80-1865 to commemorate China's first win in Star craft (I believe it was WCG) the keyboard came with with cherry MX blues. Reds are the gaming switch here in the US

you can game on them since they reset pretty fast. They do have 2kro like most rubber domes, but since modifiers don't count towards the limit it really isn't a problem
>>58532889
>artisan keycaps for your model M
Where? Is there a type of keycaps that fits? Or are they all universal?
What about the space bar, and shift. Those are not caps.
I only seen kits for small form keyboard shit, and never the full set.
>>58533774
Yikes that seems pretty low - then again I can't think of an instance where more than two at a time is really needed... Unless maybe in a FPS walking forward and to a side and needing to jump at the same time.... Hmm. Maybe they're not for me afterall....
I'm going to be switching out the springs in my blues so I was wondering while I'm opening up the switches, should I sticker them?
Are stickers a meme?
>>58533832
again modifiers like shift, space, and crtl don't count towards the limit and certain combinations can be pressed due to the way the matrix is desgined
>>58533858
Oh, I interpreted modifiers as ALT, CTRL, and WIN/Super.
God to know, thanks!
