Yes, I drilled a hole through the wall. I can't even hear my AMD Radeon RX 480 reference cooler while playing games when my door is closed :D

>>58462384

I have digitized my receipts, so the prices below is exactly how much they costed when I bought them.

>Computer
I looked over my receipts and what the actual fuck? The cost of my computer is 9984 SEK (1096 USD as of right now). Mind you, it's 25% VAT here in Sweden and prices are still outrageous even if you remove that. (computer case, motherboard, ram, CPU, CPU cooler, ssd, two hdd, rgb led strip and graphics card).

>this is my spare bedroom/storage room/office/server room.

in picture, going from left to right:

vive vr box

shelf full of controllers/wires/gadgets/batteries/etc

my 'retro' cart with nes, snes, n64, sega genesis+cd+32x, all with everdrives. also jap n64 with 64dd all connected to a 27 inch sony trintron with s-video and component. (i have dragged it around over 2000 miles here and there, and still have the remote.)

right shelf has a sony pvm and a dell ultrasharp monitor. (the pvm has svideo and i really like the snes/n64 on it.) behind the monitor are two out of site PCs, one is a server and the other is my serious business machine. the visible pc on the far right is a literally just full of hdd bays with 18 tb of backups.

far right is my modern console rig with a korea LED tv. consoles are stacked and hard to see but everything is zip tied to the cart. ps4, ps3, pstv, hacked ps2, xbox one, xbox 360, hacked wii, dreamcast, gamecube with gbp, extra n64 connected via framemiester. sometimes

I usually pull the carts out to the living room to play, usually never in the office. I can sit them side by side and run the retro consoles thru a framemeister to hdmi on the led. I can also connect either cart's outputs up to my living room projector+receiver for surround. have 144 inch wall for screen.

Well, it's a decent TV (1080p with almost all kinds of ports) I got gratis, so I can't complain, If it's not broken don't fix it I guess
Also I don't care much since the computer hooked up to that TV is a laptop with a semi decent dedicated GPU (novideo 610m, good for some basic 3D modelling) and all I do is 3D modeling and some coding

PIC related is my commodore setup for some internet points

It is indeed an R5. I love it so far, so I'll likely be using it for quite a few future builds.

My only gripe is my SSD doesn't fit in the SSD rack behind the motherboard. I've got plenty of space over in the HDD rack, so it's not a problem, but it sure as hell is annoying.

Not too far off. It's actually and IBM eServer case with the drive covers missing and the front door broken off.

The hard drives are just mounted in the 3.5 slots, with all the extra cables from my non-modular power supply jammed into the 5.25 slots since I don't use a disc drive. Got the case for free a few years ago and it was in much better shape but after 3 moves to 2 different states it's almost had it.

I'm slowly upgrading my computer and it needs a new GPU before it needs a new case.

I like this, alot. Minus the lighting.

Who here has an over under setup where they have a huge tv above their computer? I live alone in a smaller apartment and am thinking about going this route. It would make streaming to twitch so much easier having an additional 60" of viewing space.

Ive already got all of the hardware required, minus some conduit to hide the wires. My worry is this just looking retarded in the middle of my living room.

Mic on desk is my old condenser mic for my DSLR. The stand its sitting on was the one my AT2020 came with. It looked cool on my Neewer mic so i just left it there unplugged.

The AT2020 is mounted on the mic boom, but i literally just got it and havnt gotten a shock mount for it yet. The pop filter just came in yesterday.

Find a niche, do videos on that niche. Something you like that is unique. I assume you're talking about United States of America anons right?

From a european who decided to go there and stay because I had no goals in life and was just roaming through life I have this to tell you.

It's an illusion, it's all an illusion. These anons may have money and nice things today, but if they get sick they will lose everything they have, I know people who made over $80000 a year and have no savings at all, even the ones who do manage to squirrel away money don't value it and don't understand how to live their lives without spending massive amounts on nothing.

God forbid you get sick because then you lose your house if you own it, or mortgage it which is more likely the case that you will not only lose your house but stay in debt without the house. Over half of all americans do not have $1000 saved for anything, the poverty rate is fastly increasing, the life expectancy in this country is lowering everyday, the quality of life here compared to my euro country is vastly worse when our average income back home is less than $800 a month we manage to have better lives, better health, better security, less crime.

It's a fucking illusion anon, don't fall for it.

All what stuff? The parts?

I wanted the CPU for various reasons. I'd likely have been fine with the 6900K, but, I figured why not spend the extra and go top of the line. It does wonders in video work.

I only use around 25GB of the RAM at most, but, I have a 32GB RAMdisk set up right now. I use the SSD for quickly saving files and such and archive them to the large HDD.

And the two 1080's for gaymen. I'd likely have been fine with one, but the board would have looked too empty in my opinion so I bought two at the same time.

Watercooling because it's fun. And the motherboard because I wanted it. lol Here's the full price list. I also want to get the new Samsung 960 Pro 2TB NVMe drive, but, I'm waiting a bit to see if any good competitors release.

>Case: Open TestBench ($150)
>CPU: Intel i7-6950X ($1,650)
>RAM: 64GB Corsair Dominator Platinum ($500)
>Board: ASUS Rampage V Edition 10 ($600)
>GPU: 2x NVidia GTX 1080 ($1,400)
>SSD: Intel 730 Series 480GB ($300)
>HDD: Western Digital Black 6TB ($300)
>PSU: Corsair RM1000X ($150)

>Besides hunting, another common reason for gun ownership in Sweden is collecting. The gun collector must have a clearly stated interest and may begin another collection if he or she has collected for several years and has shown a great interest in gun history. A collection of guns that can be of criminal interest, such as pistols or submachine guns, will lead the police to insist on a very high safety level on the storing of such guns (including security windows and vault doors). Gun ownership may also be granted for reasons of sentimental value or as decoration. It is considered a privilege, rather than a right, to own a firearm in Sweden.

The only thing stopping you is your initiative.

Join a shooting club, take your hunting license, or apply using a collectors exemption or similar.

It might be difficult, but if you have a real interest in firearms, it's perfectly legal.

I know my priorities look a little warped from that, but I just recently got a decent paying job and was able to take care of a lot of more important stuff. I finally have some disposable income. The audio gear was the first thing I upgraded, then I built my desktop. I want a new monitor, but I have to either settle for 60hz or 2k, when what I really want is a 75hz+ 4k 1ms.

I still need to put up about $200 worth of acoustic panels, re-cable my whole home ethernet network, get a new wrist wrest and mouse pad, etc etc etc.

Then a new chair.

I also just realized I don't even have any pics of my whole battlestation right now. Fuck.

The wealth of Europe is an illusion as well, bolstered by high property prices and mountains of debt. Both the US and Europe are fucked in the end, but life in the US is far better in many ways that Europe currently.

I'm a life long USAnon, and I have to tell you that while you're right about some things, most of what you said isn't strictly accurate.

First of all, you point out that lots of Americans don't have any money put away to be able to deal with emergencies. That's absolutely true, but that doesn't have anything to do with "America". It has to do with the entirety of Western society forgetting how to manage their personal finance. It's probably problem for a larger percentage of the population here than most places, where we've enjoyed many consecutive decades of relative prosperity, but still.

You also seem pretty hung up on the healthcare thing. Yes, some people get critical illnesses and end up destitute. However, if someone was making $80k a year and didn't have good health insurance, that was a personal failing on their part.

My father was earning good money three years ago before he had a major accident that left him disabled. He had good health insurance and critical illness insurance that paid his medical expenses in entirety, then payed him 100% of his prior wages for 2 years, and will continue to pay him 70% of his prior wage for the duration of his recovery or until he hits retirement age.

It's all about making responsible choices. In America, you get to enjoy the benefits of wealth and success more fully than most places. On the other hand, you also get a larger share of the responsibility for your failures and poor decision making. It balances out.

Sorry you're disillusioned with the American Dream, but it's still there man.

>the standard of living in the US is, in most respects, much higher than Europe
I have to imagine that our mileage here varies, standard of living between US and my EU country for the same amount of money one gets a month, my country wins. Sure you can make more money, have a higher salary in the US, but the rate at which your quality of life increase is lower in the US vs EU.

As a simple but still shity example, the jump in quality of life of an anon going from $10 an hour to $15 an hour, in the US its meh, in the EU its pretty good, depending on what country you're at. Mine is on the lower end of EU.

Also, the US is not a monolith, while $80000 may be normal in the bay area, it is a rich person salary in Appalachia. So your mileage will vary depending on where you're from and where you go. But the healthcare situation is enough to tip the scales, IMO, and make it all an illusion.

Depends which country you are speaking of and where on the income scale you are. Salaries for mid to high-level employees are generally MUCH higher in the US than they are in Europe. Often 50-100% higher or more given an equivalent position and location. The one area in which Europe does have a clear advantage over the US in in holiday. Euros generally get significantly more time off.
>>
>>58473337
You are right anon, I am not disillusioned with the dream, I never believed in it, I have the same opinion of it as George Carlin, I pretty much came here for pussy and then proceeded to spend more time here than I should have, but that is my personal voyage, I learned a few things.

I am also in one of the most depressed areas of the US and according to the NYT eight of the worse counties in the entire country are in the area of where I live currently, this area may as well be a different country, flyoverville however is still part of the US and half the population occupies it and their lives and experiences are vastly different than the people who live in those 20 or so counties with the other half of the population.

Like I said, it isn't so much disillusionment as it was eye opening, in my opinion, most of flyover country are the ones who are disillusioned and truly believe in the american dream, which is truly sad.

I am going to give you a personal story, a friend worked for over 30 years in the same dangerous field, mining made some damn good money and had 100% insurance, the commodities market collapsed he got laid off and within a year got a heart bypass, had just enrolled in the ACA had it for two months, went into the hospital with no income or state help and came out with a bill for $125k.

That is why im hung up on health care.

I am poor anon, I haven't been lucky with that in life, and also I suffer from poor academic achievements. I am returning to Europe in a couple of months after ten years of being in the US. I have done a number of things but have gained considerable experience in the beverage distribution business. I am hoping to get a job in that field just based on exprience because I don't even have high school diplomas soon as I get a drivers license and then go back to school at the same time and I would like to get into mechanical engineering.

That is another good benefit of Europe, cheaper education.

All I know is that was the total of the 40 some odd pages the hospital sent, after they deducted what the insurance paid.
>>

Yet, I had a better life than many of the ones around me who had a high school diploma and were good students.

I didn't say I had a hard time here I just said its not the dreamy paradise most think it is, including the natives think it is.
>>
>>58473784

I think you might be mistaken. That was, perhaps, the total bill before they removed the amount that insurance covered. Under the ACA, out of pocket costs are capped, so what your story is wrong in some way.
>>
>>58473612

Sucks for him, and I'd be lying if I said shit like that didn't happen.

Still, if he'd been making good money for 30 years he should have owned his home in full and had a good financial nest egg. After 30 years in the same industry making a decent wage, a responsible person would have savings and investments sufficient to provide some passive income. Additionally, when he got laid off he would have had the option of retaining his former insurance under COBRA and paying for it himself.

I'm not saying he didn't get the short end of the stick, it definitely happens here. However, he probably wasn't as prepared as he could have or should have been for what happened. ACA is bullshit though, no argument there.

George Carlin had a lot of good things to say, but he was also bitter and resentful about some things towards the end. The problem with the American Dream isn't that it doesn't exist, that it never existed, or that it's dying. It's that most people think it means you can get rich and famous quickly and live a life of excess easily. It isn't about that at all. It's not about getting rich or famous.

It's about being able to reap the benefits of your good fortunes or responsible choices more fully than anywhere else. It's about being able to choose your lifestyle and live it fully. To be fair, our government gets in the way far too often. That said, you still have more opportunities in the US than anywhere else in the world, but there are more ways to fuck up and get fucked over too.

One nice thing about the US, it's huge and easy to get around. The area you're in is going to shit, you don't like it, or it's dragging you down? Pack your shit and move. I've lived in 7 states, about twice that many cities, and everywhere is just different enough to matter.

The US is weird man, that's for sure. Americans and foreigners alike have their own uniquely twisted visions of what it is or what it should be. I'd still rather live here than anywhere else.
>>
>>58473818

Depends on your expectations and your background. To many, life in the US would be a dream.

However, you came from a developed country and seem to have had unrealistic expectations and little to offer. If you thought that you were going to live a dream life without a highschool (or even with) a highschool diploma, bad grades, etc, then I'm not sure what to tell you.

If you expect to have your hand held, then yes, life in Europe will likely be better for you. For those who work hard and smart, life in the US will likely be much better.
>>
>>58473858

Pretty sure that either he or the person he heard the story from made this up. The details don't make sense due to COBRA, out of pocket cost caps, etc.

This is why I moved to the US. Spent the first 30 years of my life living in Europe and was miserable because too many of my choices were made for me and I was never able to reap the rewards/consequences of my actions. That kind of society breeds a bunch of entitled, lazy, people with a "crabs in a bucket" mentality. Every time I visit Europe, I love many parts of it like the architecture and the ancient towns, but I am extremely glad to return to my new home in the US and not have to live there anymore.

You would think that and so would I, maybe its cultural to the area because I seen it more times than I could tell ya, another person, making over $100k, you ready... He got a FHA mortgage because he couldn't come up with a down payment, for a house, worth $120k.

>It's about being able to choose your lifestyle and live it fully.

Hey I totally agree with your post man, here is what I can tell you, I did a lot of growing up here, and actually 4chan was instrumental in me figuring out that I may actually have ass burgers, stop laughin lol, and that explained to me a lot of my behavior in life. I feel now that I grew out of it, I feel now more ready to do things with my life and learn than I did when I was in school, I feel incredibly lucky to leave here and not have kids, not have a spouse, have my parents alive, and I feel like I got a second chance at life and I feel that it wouldn't have happened if I hadn't came here. It has taught me a lot about life itself and how people are. And I feel that I leave here with my eyes wide open seeing reality in front of me. Ready to live my life differently. And who knows right?

Even though my experience is not the typical american experience or immigrant experience, it doesn't mean it isn't typical for a lot of people in fly over and if you have lived AND worked in a one horse town or come from a one horse town then you know exactly what it is I am talking about.

I know what I want to do with life and I'm going to work towards it, and I'll probably have to redo high school so I can learn the math required to get into college.

One thing is for sure, insurance and finance is complicated as fuck in the US and it's really easy to get screwed if you aren't paying attention. I don't know what it's like in other Western nations so I can't say if it's better or worse here, but it is what it is.

>>58473964

This is the kind of shit I love to hear. I'm a huge admirer of the rich history and beauty of Europe, but I cringe a little at the massive entitlement complex I see so frequently among modern Euro cultures. Welcome to the US. Doesn't matter that you spent your first 30 years across the pond, you sound like an American to me.

>>58474007

I've lived and worked in small towns in the US. They have their share of charm, as well as problems, but there is a reason that youth in the US flock to the cities. It's where everything happens. Rural Americans tend to get bogged down in dead-end thinking and habits. You have to break away from that.

I'd be living a pretty shit lifestyle if I was still in rural America, but in a large SW city I'm making $35k/year without a high school diploma and living remarkably comfortably. All it takes is being even remotely responsible and willing to work.

Finance? Finance is a pretty broad term that includes just about anything. What exactly are you talking about?

> I'm a huge admirer of the rich history and beauty of Europe, but I cringe a little at the massive entitlement complex

It is honestly pretty bad. Euros are massively entitled people who expect everything important in their life to be done for them. If they fuck up, they expect others to fix their problems for them. If somebody does something great and succeeds, they do their best to bring them down. It is a poisonous, awful society. They are essentially just a calmer and less violent version of blacks in the US.

>there is a reason that youth in the US flock to the cities. It's where everything happens.

Mid-sized, 2nd or 3rd-tier American cities are generally the best places to live. You get decent pay AND don't have to deal with the high cost of living in large meme cities.

The 2017 limit is $7150. If your retarded friend can work for 30 years making good money and not afford a ~7000 medical bill, he obviously seriously mismanaged his finances.

Long story short, I was incredibly stubborn and made some questionable life choices when I was 17, including dropping out of high school.

I never had any trouble getting a job, so I wasn't too worried about it. I couldn't afford college and I didn't want to take out loans, so I eventually ended up getting a few professional licenses and got a comfy office job. My lack of education credentials definitely hasn't helped me any, but I found that once I had some work history nobody gave a shit whether I had a high school diploma or not. My goal is to hit a 6 figure annual income before a modest early retirement no older than 50.

The lack of a 4-year degree has been the larger obstacle, but still nothing I can't overcome. It'll just take me a little longer to get there than my collegiate friends. 100% the result of my own choices, I regret nothing.

>>58474251

Finance IS a pretty broad term, but that's why I used it. A more accurate term would probably have been civil law. Everything from estate law to mortgages here has endless caveats and varies widely from state to state. I've gotten a lot of first hand experience recently due to a surprise death in the family that left me with a lot of unexpected responsibilities.

All depends where you live. $40-50k is enough for a life on easymode in lots of places. Others it's more like $50-70k.

Cost of living is hugely varied across the US. Avoid meme cities like NYC and LA, you'll be fine. I was able to support myself in a decent apartment on less than $20k a year without going hungry. As my income has gone up, the only thing that has changed is my quality of life, amount of disposable income, and stress level.

>>58474494

Don't get me wrong, I did my share of roaming from 17-21. Couchsurfing, hitch hiking, all kinds of bullshit. It took me about a year to get my shit together once I started getting serious at 22 and I've been on an upward trajectory since.

I'm 25 now, with a resume that's getting better by the year, and a handful of insurance related professional licenses in my state. I'm not a big fan of insurance or sales, but it's easy enough, very stable, with decent pay that grows every year. I could make a life long career out of it, but that would be too easy. I have enough in the bank to feel "safe", and I'm fortunate enough to be in a good relationship.

I'm about to sell off some superflous assets to kickstart my "dream fund". If I play the game right and keep making solid decisions, I should be able to put myself through commercial flight school with no debt over the next 5 years or so.

Keep the dream alive anon.

I really love it, getting the color settings and screen size correct was a bitch but once that was done it's great. I can get it to 1600x1200@100hz

Fair enough. Why not set the RGBs to match your WP?

Yes, it does. Tweeter should be at ear level, as they generally have worse off-axis performance.

sup /bst/

Any suggestions for good L-desks? I want to get a second monitor (or maybe TV, haven't decided) that I can put on another leaf of an L desk for a separate dual screen setup.

I'd like to be able to have my keyboard and mouse on a slide out tray so I'm not 30" off the ground with the mouse as I find that uncomfortably high for my wrist/shoulder to continually operate a mouse at this height. I have a tenkeyless keyboard already. It's nothing special but could be useful for fitting on a small slide out tray.

These are not the most expensive speakers and have a more general, less fine tuned sound signature. Theey work perfectly in their current usecase.

Thanks.

Tartarus's all have cherry membranes, which work fine because their made to a little more tactile than usual membranes. The Orb Weaver has the shitty razer switches and an additional key row.

>DIY Choma.
It's still just blue not RGB, but I wasn't going to shill 80 bucks out for a chroma or buy a used 2012 model. Best solution was this and it turned out pretty good.
