Let's try this ONE MORE TIME

Trying to pick a monitor but not sure which one. Here are the monitors I'm looking at:
https://www.asus.com/us/Monitors/ROG-SWIFT-PG348Q/

Here's my build:

I'm looking to build it once and not have to take it apart for a long time. It's mainly for gaming, and video editing.

I don't plan on overclocking immediately, but maybe some time down the line. I'm debating upgrading to Kaby Lake with the 7600k and a Z270 motherboard, but I'm not sure.

Also, once I've picked a particular chipset for MoBos, GPUs, etc, how should I pick particular brands? I'm having a hard time choosing what's best between MSI, Gigabyte, PNY, etc.

If you don't have one you might like the Define R5, Enthoo Pro M or Deepcool Tessaract as budget option.

The 1080p ultrawide would be wasting your GPU
I have a PG278Q (the TN version of the PG269Q) and I love it, but I can still max out some games with my 1070. Also pretty much everything over 100fps looks good to me. The 3440x1440 100hz gsync monitor would be a good match for your GPU, plus you get to be a dumb rogposter

The first one sounds fine
A little under 4K, a little over 60hz, and gsync so it's not big deal if you aren't hitting 100fps
4K 60Hz is doable with that card for sure, but it might not be for games in two years

No idea if it still works, but a cheapo solution is the MSI Z170-A Pro (or what it's called), but that one has shit VRM, which is no suprise for a mobo that usually goes for 100 bucks.

Would you be willing to sacrifice some refresh rate on a 32" monitor? That's ultimately what my choice is coming down to. I could get a 27" 1440 with 144Hz, or do a 32" 1440 with 100Hz. Or is refresh rate some kind of meme I'm falling for?

>>

MSI z170 SLI plus. As long as my peak while gaming is under 65c I'm happy. Very aware that gaming won't put an aida64 load on it.
>>
>>58450904
Yeah should be fine, that mobo has mediocore VRM at best, cooler is decent for medium OC, so 4.5 is realistic with ok temps.

Ok, I need some help. I'm considering a dell optiplex 790 for light gaming (TF2, CS: GO, etc.) Is an i5 2400 3.1 GHz good enough? Will the stock graphics card be at least decent? Also, it comes with 4gb of RAM, but I plan on installing 8gb (2x4gb). Should I keep the 4gb in and add the 8gb, or just remove the 4gb and add the 8gb? Any help is appreciated.

So I received all my components and started reading the instruction manual for the MB and i noticed this;

>Due to Intel chipset limitation, DDR4 2400MHz memory frequency is only supported by 7th generation Intel processors. Higher memory modules will run at the maximum transfer rate of DDR4 2400MHz
>Due to Intel chipset limitation, DDR4 2133MHz and Higher memory modules on 6th generation Intel processors will run at maximum transfer rate of DDR4 2133MHz

I have a i5 6500 with two sticks of DDR4 2400MHz. So if i understand it will still work but will work at a lower frequency (2133MHz), right?
>>
>>58471260
If your Motherboards Bios is up to date it will work with faster ram but it will run them at 2133mhz. Overclocked speeds need to be set manually or using the XMP profile in the bios.

But im pretty sure you will only be able to overclock them with a Z170 and Z270 motherboard.

when Z170 came out some people were having trouble with Motherboards not running OverClocked Ram out of the Box, they would need to put slower ram in to update the Bios then put the faster ram in later and overclock it.
>>
>>58471260
Yes, unless you have a Z170 mobo, in which case you can enable XMP in BIOS to get the full effective speed

If you have B150 or H110 (or H170) you can't get the full effective speed

It's actually a cheaper option to send a dead motherboard to a repair specialist, just to give you an idea of how expensive getting LGA1155 boards that work. $150+ shipping costs less than most Z68/Z77 motherboards in working condition.
>>
>>58472573
no hope for that. fuckin sister threw a snowball at me, something popped and smoke came out. a chip above the cpu has exploded and welded the tiny legs together and burned the pcb. I'll get pics in a minute.

$70 for low end z77 on aliexpress. I don't know if the bios is in chinese or what though.
>>
>>58472715
>a chip above the cpu has exploded and welded the tiny legs together and burned the pcb
That's probably one of the power phases or voltage regulators from the CPU power connector or to the DIMM slots. It's just a matter of melting off the destroyed contacts and testing the surrounding/linked components to see if they still work within specification. That takes a few hours to figure out, hence the high cost. But it's usually cheaper (and not as risky) than trying to buy a working motherboard from that generation.

it is the one between the two caps, DUI 1 is marked on the pcb. I scraped the carbon/melted plastic off but it still just infinite power cycles. my friend is bringing his z77 over so I can test components and see if they are okay.
