I like these keycaps every time you memepost them. I'd personally choose to have the dark ones have lighter lettering, though. I wish keycaps didn't cost more than my keyboard.

Then again, that's probably the reason I have cheap keycaps int he first place.
>>

I would have preferred all white legends as well, but the purple is minimized with this set over the lighter variant, and seeing modifiers isn't as important with one-handed use.

If they do another set with white legends, I'll buy them.

Ostensibly it's a macro pad. But with only 4 buttons it's pretty pointless. You could just get a $40 numpad and bind macros to it if you really wanted.

But the same sort of people who eat up macshit would buy this, so I'm not surprised.

If you want a quiet TKL why not try matias qc since they are even quieter then rubber domes while being more tactile then cherry.
They aren't as good as the old Alps switches they're based on, but they're certainly smoother and better then cherry. They have a higher actuation then other switches so if you don't want to fall for the Cherry MX™ speed© meme gaming switches then definitely try them out.

Unfortunately only one of the TKLs is in stock

I'm still using a compaq rt235btw rubber dome keyboard, have been for years and years.

It's a "real keyboard" with arrows and a number pad and everything a keyboard should have (except perhaps "multimedia keys"?). When I see keyboards without any of that I just laugh. I don't care if it's mechanical if it doesn't actually have the all the keys a keyboard should have.

Why do people buy keyboards like that or even consider them?

Don't use this bullshit.

Don't use special snowflake DVORAK crap and similar either.

Your "typing performance" doesn't fucking matter if it doesn't translate to anything outside of your fucking room. There's a real world out there. If you're gonna be a good typist, you might as well have use of it instead of fucking crippling yourself into some nerd fantasy. People do appreciate fast typers and there's money to be had in it. It looks nice in a portfolio. But only if you can replicate it on a normal fucking device.

I'm a lawfag and I actually type at my same wpm and find it somewhat more ergonomic than my TKL. (85 wpm) Plus it makes people like you needlessly upset.
I used to have about 35 wpm in Dvorak (which you can access on any PC btw)
It's fun once you're semi ok at it but not enough to switch.

It's just so portable :^)

I can see some writer or some such using keyboards like these, but programmers gotta have e.g. tilde, caret, asterisk, single quote, etc. on tap. At the same time I'm intrigued by the idea of having some aspiring neckbard soldering-iron jockey assemble me a bespoke keyboard.

What's the actual reason for keycaps being so expensive?

>>
>>58408699
ROI
>>
>>58408699
>tell me how much money it actually takes to create a single keycap.

You're aware there's a large tooling fee just to start making keycaps right? So the price only comes down when you make a shitload of sets to essentially spread the initial cost over each set.

If you just emailed GMK and asked for a single custom keycap you'd be looking at several hundred dollars, if not over a kilobuck.
>>
>>58408699
>tell me how much money it actually takes to create a single keycap
Probably pennies for the plastic and the electricity needed to make a single cap. Good thing the machinery is free along with the people who man the machines and everyone involved in every step along the way.
>>
>>58408775

Cool, so why do they cost so much?
>>
>>58408699
The reason why Tai-hao keycaps are cheap is because they've had the tooling since before you were born so they they already made their money back and anything after that is just profit

High pressue injection molding machines are expensive, easily $500k plus depending on the quality and size. Even small and "cheap" ones are $100k-$200k, that's why at my previous job we used a different method for molding seals.

Beyond that each keycap needs a mold machined, and it's common for it to take several molding attempts to get the pressure, heat, ect dialed in properly.

I've only ever tried a keyboard with Kailh reds. These are my opinions.

>Cherry Red is smoother and lighter than Kailh Red. Chink loses.

>Brown is indeed shit. The bump is way too small. Fucking sand grain feeling.

>Blue is comfy.

>Clear is not as tactile as I thought. Not sure if I'd want it on a keyboard. Still feels a bit grainy like a brown.

>The stiff linear is fucking heavy as shit and would get me tendon problems instantly

>None of the clickies or tactiles would prevent me from bottoming out

All this considered, note that this switch alone would probably benefit me only about 50% when choosing a keyboard because it's completely different than using an actual keyboard.

This is was a good thing because I've realized my Lolita Spyder with K Reds is not that good of a keyboard and there's something better for me out there. But of course, it's gonna cost more...

i wasn't into mechanical keyboards when this GB came out. being a huge Macross fan (not a great time to be one), running off keypuller.com's info that there's only 184 of these, and it's a complete set barely used, I definitely expected it to go this high.

Kind of surprised a single keycap can go for that much, especially one so hideous.

>>58415776
actually it was my wife who got it for me. she already got me a TKL Skull Squadron for Christmas because she kept pestering me about getting something kb-related. knowing she doesn't know squat about keyboards and afraid she'd get me something i would probably end up regifting, I gave her a rare prize I didn't think she could find.

she was staring at it on display last week and out of curiosity found the guy selling the full set. she loves to shop for rare things and gets a rush out of auctions, so she just went for it.

guess im buying her a Google Pixel now in return for the favor.

Is a Model M still the most durable mech keyboard? I type a lot recently, and need to upgrade to something sturdy. Memes like 5 different sublevels etc are not needed for me. Just reliability and precision.
>>
>>58424326
Model F and ibm beamspring are both more durable.

There are more durable keyboards, but those are also more expensive.
For the price point nothing beats the model M
>>
>>58424570
was thinking about getting the z70 on massdrop cause it's the most uncomplicated way to get zealios switches but it's like $230 with shipping so I'm guaranteed to get fucked in the ass by customs

alternatively I thought about getting a poker and replacing its stock switches with zeals but I'd probably have to find and pay someone who would do that without ruining the board and the switches
>>
Alright bros

I'll buy a Motospeed Inflictor now

wish me luck
>>
What is the cheapest Alps kit? I have tried all the Cherry switches and they lack tactility. I also don't want another model m

Is there any website selling a black pok3r RGB? The sites I found are either on preorder or out of stock

Are Gaterons or Kailhs better?

Arguably yes.

>kailhs

No.
>>
>>58425143
Gateron are basically the best MX switch manufacturer out right now.

A pity that canafucker keeps forcing them to not make tactile clears for a decent price.
>>
>>58425132
Their website from what I see only has the non-RGB version
>>
>>58425143
Gaterons all the way

Yes to all the above but this is going to be for another keyboard that will replace this one.
