How do they even manage to do double shot PBT keycaps on the Anne Pro? It's ridiculously cheap. I could just get another Anne Pro with black key caps and swap everything and be cheaper than getting new pbt backlit keycaps

I'm not very good at soldering to be quite desu

Also these switches don't feel very tight and it always feel like I'm going to rip them out, should I hotglue them to the plate?
>>
>>58378452
You can get Tai hao double shot PBT for like 30 bucks anon. If you are some big chink manufacturer then you get them for even cheaper
>>
>>58378482
Mine is still in production.
>>
>>58378540
I'm chink but not a manufacturer.

What's a good place to get it from?
>>
>>58378314
Already have SA caps on my ergodox. It'd just be nice to have a PBT set. Guess I'll have to wait for this to come out:

https://deskthority.net/workshop-f7/hi-profile-pbt-dye-sub-the-time-has-come-t10805.html
>>
>>58378327
Solid keyboard overall, I'm a heavy arrows user though so I just need to get used to having them on a FN key.
>>
>>58378575
massdrop sells some nice Vortex sets for under 30 bucks. Otherwise there is always a different set availbe

>>
>>58378539
You might as well since you can still open the alps switches from the top, Cherry switches would be a bitch to glue since they'd be impossible to open after.
>>
>>58378623
well there are dsa pbt caps on falbatech, but yeah, there needs to be more.

should i buy some iDye poly to dye some of my white pbt caps?
>>
>>58378674
Not a fan of DSA caps, already have a set on my other ergodox.

If they actually had proper top row 1.5u keys I would've grabbed that mc rebirth set. GMK terminal has a proper ergodox set, but then

i kinda dislike the colour combinations pretty much all keycap sets use, this is why i want to start doing my own dyesub. i really want a blank white sa pbt ergodox set to happen.
>>
>>58378786
I'd buy from aliexpress instead, if you don't mind getting chinked

Is there any point if you're not using your keyboard with a tablet?
>>
>>58378502
Build your own Satan GH60 like I am, anon. I was considering the Poker too at first, but the idea of building a keyboard with exactly what I wanted was just too enticing for me. You can build one for cheaper than a Poker if you wanted too but I went all out with mine with an aluminium case and it's still just £130. Just hunt for the cheapest component prices on AliExpress.
>>
>>58378670
What do you mean, open them? I was just thinking of gluing them to the plate
>>
>>58378540
>>58378575
>>58378663
You can buy clones of the Tai Hao keysets on AliExpress for even cheaper and some of these keysets are even better than the former. They're doubleshot PBT too.
>>
>>58379110
What do you need for all of that aside from the pcb, the case and the switches and caps?

>>
>>58379161
I'd suggest you get a plate to mount the switches
>>

>>
>>58379135
I'm saying that it doesn't hurt to glue them. If you ever needed to service the switches the glue wouldn't be in the way.
>>
>>58379250
Filcos are far from shitty.
>>
>>58379465
Oh, okay. Guess I'm going to do that then
>>
>>58378877
>cancer
What's wrong with them? They're pretty nice. I think the first keycap set would look particularly good on a keyboard with a matching case.
>>
>>58379161
You'll want the plate with stabilisers and maybe some LEDs and a USB cable. I'm assuming you already have the soldering gear out of the way. If not, just get a kit from Amazon.
>>
Speaking of building/customizing keyboards, can you replace switches on the rgb pok3r or does it not work as easily because of the leds?
>>
>>58378760
GMK ABS is pretty damn nice, actually.

I prefer it over some PBT sets I've used.
>>
>>58379518
The Poker actually has two PCBs - one with the switches and one with the SMD RGB LEDs. In other words, it won't be a problem.
>>
>>58379607
>GMK ABS is pretty damn nice, actually.

I'm sure, but it's going to shine up eventually.
>>
Hand-wire keyboard or go something like GH60 for full programmable 60% things?
>>
>>58379676
If you're going to go through the trouble of hand wiring something, make it a split ortho board or something. Otherwise just get a GH60 kit.
>>
>>58379676
pcbs make things more tidy and nice. grammar makes language easier to understand.
>>
>>58379617
I see, I might get one then and consider replacing the switches at some point then.
>>
>>58379685
>>58379694

>>58380035
yeah the problem is that my $2 rubber dome keyboard has better keycaps then Filco.
Leopold and Ducky don't have the same issue and yet they're cheaper and have better build quality
>>
>>58379937
They are overpriced but you won't have any problems with them. If you care about features then get a ducky which have worse build quality.
>>
>>58380171
Leopold is probably the closest competition to Filco

that may have been true two years ago, but not any more. You can get steel plates, dual layer PCBs, thick PBT keycaps, and much nicer rounded cases now on Ducky's for 100 bucks
>>

Now hold on a minute, that's my board and this kind of memeish claptrap needs to stop. The caps didn't fade off, they got shiny as ABS from 2010 does. Here is a completely random sampling of the OEM Filco cap set for you.

You're saying a $2 MSRP keyboard has anything other than very low cost printed key caps? Post pictures of the board along with a receipt, because I like giving people the benefit of the doubt on the internet.

both are attentionwhoring faggots who only include something relevant to the thread so they don't get called on it and/or banned, because the keyboards/computers are just background so they can get replies for the rest

"Work safe" is fancy terminology for nothing sexually explicit or gore, sockposters and guns are neither.
>>
>>58381363
>haha ignore the pictures they're irrelevant to the content of my posts

I'd rather a bunch of guns and keyboards, than a bunch of faggots complaining about guns and keyboards. Like holy fuck, just hide the post if the guns scare you instead of derailing a thread and baiting for replies. At least the faggots with guns have keyboards and post on-topic, the only retards derailing the thread are the ones complaining.

But enough of this stupid shit, back on topic. The TADA68 R2's finally came in and should be shipping soon. I ordered the one with MOD-M switches, it's going to replace my Quickfire Rapid with Cherry Browns. Hoping they'll feel good.
>>

Guns are technology. So it's not off topic just not really relevant to the board. /g/ is more about modern electronics.

They're not quite as smooth as feelios. Still smoother than stock clears. I haven't tried lubing them but I'm sure it can be made to be as smooth as the zeals. Feels to me like the MODs are very slightly more snappy. So I guess it depends on whether you favor smoothness or tactility, though the difference is slight.

You bought it used from a thrift shop for $2, that does not make it a $2 keyboard. It wasn't $2 new, and it's not worth only $2 now.

I bought a Remington 700 LTE for $280, but that does not make it a $280 rifle or mean that it's only worth $280 today.

Don't care, I'll probably just turn it off.

I was recommended a Kaihua keyboard, but there seems to be virtually no reviews of it and I've heard little good about Kailh switches. For another $5 there's a Corsair Strafe on sale. I know Corsair isn't great, but for the price, would it be worth it assuming I don't care about LEDs or plan on changing out the keycaps?

I went to Best Buy today and they had a total of 3 mechanical keyboards on display. They had Razer greens, Romer-Gs, and reds. They all suck. The greens sound horrid and the feedback is too high up for the travel. Romer-G's aren't as smooth as I would have liked, and while I appreciate the short travel it feels weird on full-height keys. The reds are smooth but feel like garbage when they hit bottom. Thoroughly unimpressed. All of them were loud, and not for any proper reason, just bad design. Where are these supposedly superior mechanical keyboards? Who decided it was ok to make switches that give feedback before the actual point of actuation? Why are makers allowed to create these narrow keytops when there is zero logical reason to space keys more than 3mm apart at maximum? What the hell is the point of having key travel so far past actuation that you can't rapidly tap the key without an exaggerated wrist motion? I feel like I've been memed upon for a long time. My membrane keyboard is crap, it has terrible friction on the keystrokes when you hit anything off-center, but at least it actuates sensibly and consistently with correct feedback. I wanted better, was promised better, but better is not what I got. Why can't we stop buying into this Cherry-style meme and engineer key actions that are of actual quality, quiet, solid and smooth with correct feedback in 2017? There are so many types of switches and buttons in the world and we just keep using the same designs created literally 30 years ago, or very slight variations on them. Watch me lubricate this damn membrane board.

I have a Ducky tenkeyless because my desk is limited for space. It isn't really feature packed, but for my main keyboard it's fine. Has cable routing and adjustable feet.
There is a pretty good selection of 60% out there, but from memory I think the majority have static feet (removable, screw-on) and no cable routing.
RGB is a pointless meme in my opinion; getting a small keyboard is for practicality, not blingbling

Their raison d'être of a 65% keyboard is to provide most of the functionality of a TKL in a significantly more compact layout. This keyboard is literally larger than a TKL, and still provides less functionality. It is by design a bad product.

Sure there is, the correct profile is the one that matches all the other keys. If the sloped side is at the bottom of every key except for those 4 1.5u keys where it's at the side, that's incorrect. If the cylindrical top if vertically aligned on every key except the 1.5u keys where it's horizontally aligned, that's incorrect.

I want to import a pristine AE86 Trueno to the EU too, but for less than €10000 total.
>>
>>58393398
>>58393415
You can find both the RK61 and the Anne Pro on AliExpress or Banggood which ship internationally. 50 euro might be a bit hard though. This is the cheapest one I could find: http://www.banggood.com/RK61-Backlit-Dual-Mode-Bluetooth-Wired-Mechanical-Gaming-Keyboard-p-1069711.html
>>
>>58393398
just get a qisan magicforce with gateron browns at that price

Does your wpm increase if you own a trueno?

Does that keyboard slide around your desk while you're typing?

Recommendations for 60% under $100?

Any switch type since I'm new to this and willing to try out.
>>
>>58394697
rk61, Anne pro, V60, and Magiforce68.
They come in a variety of switches from cherry, gateron, and kailh as well as plenty of color options
>>
>>58394697
>>58394783
Gateron or go home. But yeah, >>58394783 lists some good options.

faggiest thing I've read all day

How the fuck do you into arrow keys on a 60%

like nigger, how do you type without arrow keys
>>
>>58395632
Fn layer. That or you bind the right modifiers to be arrows.
>>
>>58378427
got my first mechanical keyboard, it was unicomp ultra classic, how did i live without one for so long???
>>
anyone here from canada already ordered from mechanicalkeyboards.com before? It's been a week and my part went from... Tennessey to Florida? Kinda strange.
>>
>>58381818
I found a model M they wouldn't let me purchase it.

Who types with arrow keys?
>>
>>58395742

you have to move and change things sometimes or fix a typo.

>>58395648

That sounds fucking annoying man.
>>
>>58395752
That's why 65% boards are now a thing m8.
>>
>>58395752
I've always just clicked around or rewrote the entire sentence.

Isn't the fn key to the right so it's just an extra step?
>>
>>58395752
fn on caps + wasd/ijkl for arrows works very well and requires less hand movement than dedicated arrow keys

Yeah, but they either:

- look retarded (picture related) defeating the point of a 60%. Let's face it, people buy 60% for the looks. Any one of you bitch ass niggers even try and deny this, you're a massive faggot. Don't go there.

- Retain the packed it's-just-keys 60% look but have a weird ass layout to fit the arrow keys in there somehow.

You might as well get a tenkeyless at that point or pretend that your space is at such a premium that you absolutely must have smaller than a tenkeyless.
>>
>>58395772
>clicked

I puked a little.

>>58395811
>fn on caps + wasd/ijkl for arrows
>requires less hand movement than dedicated arrow keys

That's actually a good point.

The downside is having to rebuild all sorts of habits though and rendering yourself useless on keyboards other than your own. Not fun at a job.
>>
>>58395848
the latter is an issue but the former takes a day or two and after that you won't want to have it any other way. that's how it was for me anyway
>>
Has Keycool fixed their quality control since the past few drops on MD?

The KC71 RGB looks nice enough for the price, but if it's gonna be flawed, there's no sense to even buying it at all.
>>
>>58395816
But the fc660 is a visually appealing keyboard
>>
>>58395816
I like the layout of the TADA68, even though it is a 65% keyboard
>>
>>58394783
>>58395362
These are nice but are there any reputable brands with warranty out there?
>>
>>58396133
yeah all those that were listed.
If you really want solid build quality then Leopold, Filco, and Pok3r are the way to go, but those are more expensive.
If you want you can build your own fully programmable 60% keyboard for under 100 bucks.
The PCB comes presoldered and you just need a plate some switches and a case.

I made the switch to topre (45g) last year, and as smooth as it is i make too many typos on it due to the light switch, and my forceful bottoming, i type like 150wpm.

i was thinking of getting pok3r in white with no led and mx clears, as i am also really craving a satisfying bump

anyone else go from topre to clears or have this keyboard?
>>
>>58396701
Never used topre but I have clears. I use them for the same reason, can't type with anything lighter. The bump is really nice, but I'm thinking of switching to greens because I crave a click. In my opinion, clears are exactly the right weight.

As far as the keyboard, pok3r is almost universally accepted as a wonderfully keyboard, but sadly I can't vouch for it myself.
>>
>>58396875
Ok cool. I'll pick it up tomorrow.

Which keyboard do you use, out of curiosity.
>>
>>58396701
I've got the exact pok3r you're talking about. No idea how topre switches feel, so I can't make the comparison, but I've been really happy with the board. With my browns, I bottom out constantly because I type kinda hard but I don't with the clears.

As for how clears feel, the bump is nice, not too sharp but not non-existent like the "bump" on my browns. Kinda gritty but that seems to be an issue with cherry switches in general, so yeah, but it's not too bad.
>>
>>58396897
WASD Code v2
>>
>>58396701
MX Clears should stop you from bottoming out but are you sure bottoming out is slowing your typing speed?
Depending on how long ago you got your Topre board you might not be used to it.
