Is that the snowfrake dial? Looks bomb ass.
These seikos have no escapement do they?
you guys ever find anything nice at a thrift store?
>>58391802
Depends what you mean by escapement. They have an electromagnet that controls the speed of the gear train, but no balance spring or fork
Love the snowfrake

Get it together OP
Where do you guys position the clasp?
>>58391916
I always take links off the 6 side first, you want the folded part centered on the bottom of your wrist.
>>58391916
Crown side towards me in that pic
Grand Seikos need to be cheaper by $1000
>>58392021
why
>>58391916
>>58392019
What is a good way to remove links from a new seiko bracelet? I use other straps I have because it's so difficult. What are some good tools to use for that?
>>58392021
You need to be less poor by $1000 tbqh.
>>58392034
Because it's literally a month's pay
>>58392047
For you maybe
>>58392038
depends on your bracelet
if it's push pins you can use a tool like http://www.ebay.com/itm/131985939486
i just used the opposite end of my spring bar tool
>>58392047
oh so you're just sad that you can't afford them
well i'm with you there
>>58391858
That's a quartz one right? How exaxtly does it work
>>58391846
Yeah a £2 quartz seiko that's worth £40 on ebay. You're gonna have to look real hard. Whenever I go in I hope against hope that some dumbass has given away a vacheron Constantine or something not knowing it's horological value, and I manage to get it for 50 pounds
>>58392162
there's a video at the end of the previous thread explaining it >>58391036
or you can google it, there are plenty of resources online
>>58392162
Yes, it's quartz. Very briefly, there is a traditional gear train, but instead of an escape wheel, there is a wheel with a magnet on it there is a circuit than measures how quickly the wheel is turning and compares it with the rate from the quartz oscillator. If the wheel is going too fast, the circuit engages an electromagnet that slows down the wheel's rotation.
>>58392339
>Very briefly, there is a traditional gear train
everything except the escapement is a traditional gear train
How awful would it look if I tried to put an 18mm strap on a 17mm band?
>>58392021
You can get a quartz GS for under 2k grey market
>>58392457
You're going to attach a strap to band? If you mean watch, it'll look a bit funny.
>>58392527
WHAT DOES Grey MARKeT MEAN?
>>58392047
Wow, you have to wait to be able to afford something. Why can't it be given away free? Fucking slant eyed Jews.
>>58391916
Mine looks about like this. Other watches are centered. Seems comfy as it is. Not gonna take the links apart for now.
>>58392643
Buying from someone other than an authorized dealer.
>>58392675
Yeah, right? the japs are the jews of the east
What are the best looking horsebutts here? Probably going to order 2 of 2 colours, maybe 3.

Where do you guys wear your watches?
>inb4 wrists
Obviously but where on the wrist.
Is there a general rule like not too near the hand.etc
>>58392752
On the wrist bone.
>>58392746
Get the basketball leather, to show that you are a real baller.
>>58391916
>>58391995
>>58392691
Well I'm gonna give it a try. Lets see how it feels.
And crown is towards the camera.
>>58392752
Behind the wrist-bone, at the narrowest point, where watches are meant to be worn.
People who complain about the crown of their watch interfering with their hand movement are either fat, or don't know how to wear a watch.
>>58392752
Depends on the strap.
Leather: tight above my wrist bone
Nato: looser but it mostly stays at my wrist bone
Bracelet: loose and it flops around all over the place.
>>58393076
You tried removing links
>>58392746
In my opinion the navy, natural (out of stock at the moment) and black are the best, but I hate reddish browns and I have a self interest in you making a Navy strap so take my opinion with a grain of salt.
Is this fine?
>>58393371
Wassup with the crown
>>58393188
I wear bracelets like that on purpose. I don't mean literally flopping around like sliding to my elbow or falling off my hand. But bracelets I like much looser.
What does /g/ thinks about the new colaboration between Casio and Hublot?
Will they triumph over more traditional watchmakers?
>>58393435
G-shocks are always so loud.. I find very few of them appealing.
>>58393435
Hublot doesn't triumph over much on it's own. I don't think they'll fare much better making a significantly more expensive and fragile g-shock with casio.
>>58393405
Unscrewed ?
>>58393477
Yeah no shit. That is fucking massive on that arm.

He just said he doesn't have watches. Are you stupid?
>>58394672
magnet watch?
>>58394708
He thinks you're me. He's talking about the Eone Bradley, which uses magnets inside the case to move captive steel balls around tracks on the outside of the watch.
>>58394723
I was actually interested in the Bradley until I saw someone in the subway wearing it (I couldn't believe it; what are the odds). The case shape and lugs make it wear absolutely horribly.
>>58394723
How do you misread Nigger and Nine? kek
ID on this strap?
Anyway, I am thinking on getting
>Seiko SNZF17K1 - 192€
>Orient Blue Ray II - 220€
Thoughts?
>>58394779
The lugs are interesting, how they pivot on the case then again on the bracelet. I'm not sure why they're so long though.
One of the more annoying things is the pin-head size crown.
>>58394850
The hour and minute "hands" being in the wrong place is the most no-go for me, but the lug length and case height are pretty unfortunate.
>>58394926
It's like 11mm thick, about the thickness of a seiko 5. That guy just has a really small wrist.
Also that strap he is wearing is really causing the lugs to take an odd angle. They should fold down to prevent lug overhang on small wrists, but his strap is pushing them up.
How fucking tiny is that dude?

>>58395692

Except a F91W looks like a F91W. That just looks like a cheap g shock.
>>58395797

>>58395806
Iconic shit though
But the 5600 is the classic G, they make a virtually identical $300 model that has more features and a stainless body under the plastic

>>58394926
>The hour and minute "hands" being in the wrong place is the most no-go for me
yeah, I almost bought one before finding out the minutes are on the dial and the hours and on the side but I guess if I were actually blind it might be more useful the way it is?
>>58394926
Is this a watch for blind people?
>>58396160
yes
>>58396105
I would've thought minutes on the outside would be better since I usually want higher resolution on minutes than hours. But I'm sighted, and I assume they actually worked with actual blind people who probably know better than me.
>>58396204
>>58396105
I figure you're going to be checking minutes more often and need higher precision since you can feel the position of the ball between the indices easier than the side one.
>>58392860
>Get the basketball leather, to show that you are a real baller.
Yeah, because looking like you have a ballsack skin strap from your wife's son's gimp really makes you baller.
>>58393371
What is your wrist size? I want to buy a skx007 but can't try it anywhere and I want to know if 42mm would look bad on me. My wrist is 6,3
>>58396534
it would look kind of big but it's doable depending on how tall or husky you are. at 6.3 you might even have to buy a special band, thats tiny bro
>>58396534
The skx wears like a 40mm watch because of the pillow case.
It is kinda tall though.
>>58396586
I'm not too skinny but I have thin arms because I don't lift. I have another watch that's around 40mm and the bracelet fit fine, I just had to remove a shit ton of links. What do you mean with custom strap?
>>58396534
I have a 6.5" wrist and don't wear my skx much because it's too big
>>58396534
Here's a 009 on a 7.25 wrist.
how 2 justify ETA 2824-2 on a 3000€ watch
>>58397292

You can't.

>>58397292

>>58396615
I mean the shortest you can make the stock bracelet might only be like 6.5
Never really wore a watch until I got the terrorist watch, these are all the watches I own (have a weekender somewhere I think also)
>>58397331
the in-house doesn't have the cool arched "self-winding" on the dial
>>58397590
It's still over paying for something with a movement that's found in £600 Hamiltons. For ~£300 LESS than the cost of the Tudor you can get the ceramic co-axial seamaster, which looks way nicer IMO.
I lost my user guide to the Citizen BM8180-03e. Can someone remind me the important bits about setting the date?
>>58395692
>The DW5600E-1V is basically the F91W but better in every possible way
Approx. battery life: 2 years on CR2016
Standard digital watch usually has 10 years battery and your watch isn't powered by solar battery, looks like you don't do your research before buying it.

>This watch costs 50 cents every two years

That's not typical, no. That's why Casio specifically advertises a line of 10-year watches.

what is the point of vibrations per second on a watch? like a mechanical
>>58398201
It's how smooth the seconds hand runs. Most cheap quartz is 1 per second. Some are 6 per second. Some have 12.
>>58398201
Describes the frequency of the pallet fork moving back and forth in the escapement. There are arguments to be had as to what the best speed is. Everything else being equal, a higher speed means it'll be more accurate.

>>58398402
Vibrations that happen at a regular rate allow you to keep track of time.
If you have a mechanical and you push the balance wheel it will swing, and then swing back. That's one vibration. It's similar to a pendulum. If you hold a pendulum towards you and let go, it will swing away and then back towards you, once it has done that, it's made 1 vibration.
Now the second hand moves every time the jewel pin on the balance wheel assembly hits the pallet fork and allows the escape wheel to move forward. This happens once on the away swing, and again on the back swing.
This is why a balance wheel that vibrates 5 times per second allows the hands to move 10 times per second. 5 vps (hz) = 10 bps = 18,000 vph = 36,000 bph.
Most watches are 3 or 4 vps (aka hertz). The zenith el primero and GS Hi-beats are 5 hz. There was a credor made a few years ago at 6 hz. Chopard made the 8hz Power Control. Breguet makes a 10 hz watch. Amd the other day I posted a watch by Hajime Asaoka which is 2.5 hz with a large, 16mm balance wheel.

>>58398996
Ok I'll just buy a watch that costs less than 100$ in materials for 500$ like the rest of you :^)
>>58398973
They "service" them by repainting dials and stuff, leaving actual debris in the watch. It wont last when it's sabotaged like that.

Decent, cheap watches exist. Those are not pooinloo watches however. Get a seiko 5 or something which won't have curry pubes in the movement.

>>58392752
I'm a literally a hand expert with a degree.
You want it before/above the wrist. Putting it directly on the wrist applies pressures to the carpals, increasing the pressure within the carpal tunnel. This causes strain on your nerves and ligaments that run through the carpal tunnel, and can obviously result in carpal tunnel syndrome.
Sage.

- we're discussing the turtle looking somewhat toyish, but the gshocks actually look like toys, appeal wore off very fast
- the orient is such a blatant sub ripoff it's embarassing to wear, and i even got the bond nato when i first bought it and lost the end links, so i look like a complete fuckboy if i wear it
- the ef503d just looks cheap to me, i don't like it anymore
- orange monster is by far the best one, but the orange is too much and looks out of place with literally everything, and i hate the steel colored bezel
Been a while since I've seen any /Vostok/ on here. I just bought this I like all the aftermarket bezels available for it. What is the opinion on scuba dude. This is my second diver. I have my skx009, a parnis power reserve, this Vostok coming in, a Tissot seastar, and a Timex weekender, I can attach a pic if interested. What y'all think about my small but growing collection
>>58400034
>>58400109
Huh, I didn't actually know about Orient's Sub and Daydate homages before. The more you know.
The orange monster is pretty interesting. I like the black one better, but I'm pretty sure the orange one is super visible underwater if that matters.
I agree with you on the gshocks looking like toys, I was going to belabor that but you mentioned it in the second post. I don't know which ones you have but they range from edgy to kind of subtle. I respect the latter since it is such a utilitarian watch.
You might consider something more flexible? Most of those seem over-the-top in the sporty direction. If you got something in plain black or blue that wasn't a total homage, a number of divers go with suits as well as beachwear.
The edifice holds a special place in my heart since it was my first watch. I just put it on leather and I have really taken to it again.
>>58400144
I would wear the weekender and that's it.
>>58400198

>>58400206
Because it's the nicest one. It's the only one I'd wear out of all of them.
>>58400251
Poor taste. skx009 is bigleague better. I agree that the parnis power reserve and tossit are bad. I'd still take either over the Timex.
The scuba dude is pretty neat. Kind of a meme, but a pretty unique watch with extra character. I'm not a fan of steel bezels, but I'm curious what insert you decide on.
>>58400287
Weekender is more reliable than SKX in my opinion. Also not a fan of pepsi insert.
>>58400043
what's the model, please?
>>58400407
looks like sarb035
>>58400329
More reliable? It should keep better time. The weekender can't take a beating though. The construction quality is hugely inferior.
The pepsi insert is awesome, but also very sporty. I think it would have been nice to make the "diver's" text the same color.

Nothing special but this is the only watch I own, bought it when I was like 17 or something. Love the minimalist look to it, I hate gaudy watches
>>58401040
>so minimal it doesn't even exist
Really makes you think.
>>58401040
oops, forgot pic
>>58398358
Seiko 5, Vostok, something vintage or second hand
>>58400043
seems a little thick for that watch yeah
Not bad looking otherwise
>>58401148
Didn't think it would come out that thick.
>>58400043
I don't know why but that image makes an otherwise attractive watch look hideous
>>58401216
I've never had enough light at my work desk. I'll take a better pic under sunlight tomorrow.

>>58401216
It's because it looks so small.

>>58395177
If you made a 20mm one long enough for my fuck hueg wrists id buy one off you.
>>58401770
It really isn't.

7.75 inches or so.
I can make whatever you want, my brother. That one fits my wrist pretty well.

How come?
>>58398812

i bought 2 1 was doa the other worked but the case was all fucked up so i took the movements out of both and swapped them noticed the stem what was in my working watch was the wrong one but i got the correct one from the broken watch so i ended up payin about $40 for A seiko that i had to make myself
and these sellers will not do refunds good luck getting your money when its half way round the world

Are tourbillions a meme or are they worth it
>>58403475
Yes they are a meme. Are they worth it depends on what you want from them.
They're beautiful and relatively hard to make, so they're a bit of a bragging right. But it won't really make a wristwatch more accurate, and they're usually shown on the dial so make for a more blingy watch.
>>58403475
>>58403572
What's a meme noiwadays?
The definition seems to have changed with time
>>58402189
No.
That strap looks every bit the equal of those sold by expensive custom strap makers.
A thinner strap just requires using slightly thinner leather.
Opinions on the 36mm flieger by stowa?
I've been wearing a steinhart (yeah I know it's a shit company and I agree) 44mm flieger for over 2 years now and it's actually pretty okay.
My wrist is 7 inches so it doesn't look too big on me but I kinda want a smaller watch now.
>>58403629
The way I usually see the term used on this Singaporean shadow-puppet symposium is to mean an idea or product whose value is primarily socially constructed without any connection to its underlying merits.
So asking "is X a meme?" really means is X actually good or is it only popular due to repetition, shilling, and circle jerking?
>>58403694
Why not get something really nice instead of going through a progression of dogshit?
>>58403724
OK that's a crystal clear definition.

Should I?
>>58403795
Is your 44mm Steinhart a premium or regular?

I liked the old blue samurai better. I think the new indices and hands don't match the bezel as well, and I'm not a fan of the yellow. The case shape is still as nifty as ever though. They upgraded the movement, right?

Skx007
"Divers 200M" looks so much better than "water resist" on a desk diver
Round markers also look more consistent and unique to the watch vs the square ones.
>>58407904
Have this watch, wish I'd bought a 007 instead. "Seiko 5 sports" looks so cheesy.

i preferred the square ones personally

thats the reason i didn't buy the snzt17 if only they didn't put sports on the dial would look so much better

This thread actually just inspired me to buy a chinkshit rubber strap for my sea urchin ($1.19 shipped)

here

hey btw - SKX007 are nice - qc seems somewhat relaxed on them, but i got my first watch recently and it's a SKX007 and i like it a lot.

The hour hand is one of the most recognizable traits of a sub.
>>58406488
looks like a ball
>>58408337
Naw. I don't like the 007. Everyone compares it to the snzf, but the indices, the hands, the bezel, the bracelet, are all different. I much prefer the snzf except with out the 5. I would pay 007 prices if they offered a snzf with the screw down crown and water resistance.
Thoughts on Parnis ?

>put together a holiday wishlist for family so they could have some help with gifts
>lg urbane was at the very bottom of the list specifically 'low priority toy'
>out of all the things on it, it's what they get me
I was really surprised because damn, it's an expensive watch and I'm not even sure I'd have ever actually bought it myself, but now I'm left wondering what the hell to do with it.
So far, I'm not liking the fact that I have to recharge it every day. The built-in on/off timer gives you like 3-5 seconds to look at the watch before turning the screen off, which is just ridiculous, and you literally can't change that without downloading a $3 app, and I don't buy apps.
There's a built in fitness tracker; google fit, but it doesn't do anything interesting.
The apps in general for these watches seem pretty awful, I haven't genuinely liked a single one I downloaded to try out, and I can't help but feel like computerized watches like this would've been better off with e-ink displays instead of lcd. I'm trying to make the watch a little more useful than just being a watch, but really there doesn't seem to be much to go on here.
tl;dr I have a smartwatch I got for Christmas and don't know what to do with it and need ideas
>>58409592
go ask somewhere else, we don't like them either
but at least we don't ask other people to buy them for us

>>58407055
>Do you have any experience with materials in the real world?
Yes I do in fact. My old watch damaged a lot of shirts. I thought it was just normal wear but noticed it was always on the left cuff. Parts of the watch had sharp serrating, probably unintended but nevertheless destructive.
