SubgraphOS is a kernel patched with grsec/PaX/RAP, but also developed their own application sandbox framework (namespaces + limited fs + seccomp bpf whitelisting), app firewall, event monitoring subsystem, usb disable on desktop lock (based on grsec) and completely rewrote the instant messenger plus email client in a memory safe language which both run in a sandbox.

It's also the safest OS you can use to view a PDF because it's fully sandboxed.

You can use firejail or mbox in your regular distro to view pdfs https://pdos.csail.mit.edu/archive/mbox/ or sandboxie in Windows.

Or just do what I do have a VM on standby with SubgraphOS and everytime you want to view a pdf just start it up takes me only seconds to load it up
