We discuss where /g/ is going wrong and how to fix it
>>
where does it say every board is allowed one meta thread?

i think the thing that's wrong with /g/ is people who think this board belongs to them and that they can impose what they think is allowed because they think of this place as something more than it is. like it's your local pub. like people are here to talk about what people here eat or drive or whatever.
>>
>>58333423
Hiro made this rule on /qa/ in a post.
>>
Ban Indian IPs, Windows users and phoneposters
>>
>>58333400
It's not such a problem right now, but this last year there have been literally hundreds of "should I upgrade to windows 10" threads, sometimes there were several of them at once.

General threads for current issues like that are needed, and temp ban anyone who makes another beyond the existing.
>>
This board is what it is. It'll evolve as it goes. People come and go. Trying to control it will just turn it into reddit.
>>
>>58333486
then it should be easy to link to. or he must have changed https://www.4chan.org/rules to reflect that. i'll take a link to either place where it specifically says this ( https://www.4chan.org/rules#qst in particular says no meta-threads, although it's not super clear if that's referring to something about quests that i don't know)
>>
>>58333523
If I knew Hiro's complete username I could find it in the desuarchive
>>
>>58333400
OS flags, we need OS flags like /int/.
>>
>>58333633
hiro definitely posted in here last night that meta threads are garbage. if i knew his complete username i could find it in the desuarchive. you'll just have to trust me.
>>
>>58333400
/g/ is fine as it is but to make it better

>add os (and maybe browser) flags
>replace captcha with programming challenges (eg you must write fizzbuzz to post, simple algorithms, data structures, etc)

The fizzbuzz captcha shouldn't examine the code but the output of the code so this could be tricky security wise
>>
>>58333808
search the archive for meta thread discussions, you idiot. There are numerous threads and references to him making this post.
>>
>>58333884
>you must write fizzbuzz to post
this is a general technology board. if you want a programming board maybe you should have lurked and posted more on /prog/ and it wouldn't have been nuked during the textboard cleanup.
>>
>>58333921
Great! should make it easier for you to find evidence of the claim you made earlier.

i don't understand why you think it's my job to find it. i mean, i searched high and low, and it's not there. since it's ostensibly my responsibility, i assume you'll just take me at my word. i comprehensively searched the whole archive and your claim is not backed up by evidence. hiro never said shit about meta threads.
>>
>>58333798

They are useless. You can fake any OS you want.
>>
>>58333936
not him, but if you give enough of a shit to fake browser or OS, then who cares? post flags don't have any substantial integrity to them.

i'm not even clear what the purpose of post flags would be except that "reddit haz them lol *holds up spork*", but the fact that you can spoof them isn't a compelling reason not to. the compelling reason not to is that it's not especially beneficial.

if you think that's fun then just go to reddit.
>>
It's just sad, really. I thought it would be a discussion about technology. Turns out it's just NEET pedophiles sharing pictures from their anime folder and their desktop.

Then it's either video card discussions or something else that's inane. The generals are okay, but it's disappointing.

Is there any website that has hardcore technology?
>>
I think that we need to come to an agreement about what sort of shitposting we're fine with and which we're not.

And then we need the jannies to stop sucking of trannies and start sweeping up said shitposts.

That, and actually daring to not being so ironically detached from everything and daring to have opinions about things and talk about them would be great. But that's just a dream.
>>
>>58334072
there are lots of other threads. if you're just gravitating toward the anime desktop stuff then i don't know what to say. hide them or leave. it's not super complicated.
>>
>>58333951
Yes. On other imageboards I've seen, board flags serve as the weakest form of identification (exactly because everyone can use any flag they want, yet on slower boards you can tell regular posters apart easier) and a compromise to get rid of identityfags (it's not remotely as disruptive as unnecessary name/tripcode posts or avatar images).

The only downside on 4chan, of course, would be the same mentality as on pol/int:
>of course that's what a X flag poster would say
>>
>>58334071
Which subreddit even has os flags? It sounds you're the one who's better acquainted with reddit.
>>
>>58333400

>>58333991
Please desist from posting poorly drawn Japanese cartoons.
>>
>>58334085
to be clear, 4chan is only kind of anonymous for users to one another. it's not an anonymous message board in the sense that we're actually free to say what we want. if moot wanted to out us or hiro wanted to sell us out to law enforcement, they could absolutely do that.

i've said this a while back in another thread, but it's worth reflecting on: there is absolutely no evidence that 4chan has ever vigorously fought either a subpoena or any other inquiry into data about users.

what should we take from that? do we have any reason to believe that moot, who famously complained that he didn't have money for anything (let alone expensive/competent lawyers) and got burned out and resigned because of the fappening, would have splashed out to resist *any* attorney's letterhead demanding server logs?

i'm not saying he did sell us out, but we have absolutely no proof whatsoever that he didn't, and 4chan has definitely cooperated with police after some /b/tard posted about shootings and stuff.

all of this is to say that we're not really anonymous, and if 4chan decided to assign us all with IP-specific hashes indicating that post #2 is the same as post #5 within a given thread, it wouldn't fundamentally change the anonymity of the site as a whole.
>>
>>58334118

>>58333400

/g/ is perfectly fine.

There's talks about hardware, software.
There's shilling for and against companies.
There's the "halp guyz, I'm noob, what do?" theads.

All in all it's pretty enjoyable.
I know people bitch in a "stop liking what I don't like" kind of way..
But GODDAMNIT there's more than 120 threads up at the same time. Don't you think it's OK if you folks only like 10% of them? I think it's more then enough.

>tl; dr: this "meat thread" is cancer, sage goes in all fields

>>58334091
i'm just saying that if you want user flags, go to reddit. i didn't realize you were complaining about reddit not specifically having operating system flags. this seems like an incredibly nit-picky argument you're trying to start.

Not trying to start anything, /int/ and /pol/ have country flags and it works for them considering their board topic, it would be cool if /g/ had os flags considering our board topic.
That's all, there's nothing more to it.
>>
>>58334197
i mean it'd be cool if we could upvote each other's posts, and have subthreads, and have more robust thread hiding. maybe we should make a system to donate money to 4chan in the name of a user/post that we think is especially excellent. we could call it 4chan [some precious metal]

i'm sure some argument can be made for all of this stuff, but they all seem weak to me except that it would be mildly amusing and make this site more like reddit. if you want that, that's fine, just get your fix of reddit stuff on reddit and then get your fix of 4chan stuff here.

Operating System: Browser
Debian: Iceweasel
OS X: Safari

Yes, one can change it's user agent, but normies won't bother to do it.

We should ban windows users. Not even trolling. Not only should they be banned from posting, but banned from accessing /g/ altogether. They don't even deserve to get to observe our conversations.
>>
>>58333400
/g/ is the place you go if you want to argue about the same thing you argued about the day before. Every day, in every thread, there are manchildren bickering about Windows vs. Mac vs. Linux, Chrome vs. Firefox, AMD vs. Nvidia, AMD vs. Intel, MPC-HC vs. VLC vs. mpv, Android vs. iOS. It's always Product vs. Product too, because you consumerist shills define yourselves based on which products you use rather than what you use them for.

I don't really know how to solve this though, unless you all find a way to simultaneously stop being retarded.
>>
>>58333932
As a newcomer to this thread, I don't understand why you care. You're the one who gives a shit about finding Hiro's post so if you want it you can find it. Overall, whether or not you believe OP is irrelevant because you are irrelevant, unless you're a mod or a janitor, in which case you can easily get confirmation that this rule exists if you don't know it already. I have no idea whether OP is telling the truth or not, but you really don't matter enough for it to be worth it sitting here tard-wrangling with you for hours because even if you don't believe OP you can't do shit.
