I am looking to replace my HTC One. Is the Pixel XL a decent idea or should I go with a Samsung?
>>
should i update miui8? ive never updated and i always feel like updates deliberately slow down your phone too. at least i noticed that on every other android and idevice

anyone?

do you have a second battery? they tend to fail early. the wifi and shit is probably an indication that you need a new phone. don't buy a flagship. OP3 is a fine phone.

posting from my mi max. it surprised me at first how big it was but after only a day my xperia z felt tiny by comparison. id definitely recommend it, amazing performance and a screen thats actually useable for stuff (seriously 5 inches was always pathetic for word documents, media, etc).

the only thing i dont like is the privacy agreement for all the xiaomi apps, so i just chucked them in a folder and never used them (gallery needs to access your contact list too lol).

beautiful for ebooks too.

any questions ill gladly respond
>>
>>58332445
Look at huawei, they have stores in europe
>>
>>58332395
What the fuck is the point of that keyboard? Redundant as hell at this point.
>>
>>58332525
I was thinking of installing a custom rom on it, never had an android before but I like being able to do stuff like no ads, and other useful stuff can you do that with the installed rom you get with it?
>>
this is going to be the best year for smartphones
>>
>>58332576
My grandpa wants a smartphone but his hands shake too much to use an on-screen keyboard.
>>
>>58332576
It's a gimmick for people who are still stuck in the past with "BBM". Blackberry has always been shit, they couldn't adapt to the market. They thought they were too big to fail.
>>
>>58332598
There is a thing called, voice searching and typing. All old people use it

A physical keyboard won't help, but bigger buttons will. You guessed it, you can enlarge the buttons on a keyboard app but can't with a physical keyboard
>>
>>58332593
havent flashed another rom onto it but you can if you wish. you need root access to block ads though so you dont even need to flash another rom
>>
>>58332623
This, can confirm. My dad is 64 and uses voice chat even for little shit like "okay"

I feel bad for him when he starts speaking a long ass text then has to redo it because it fucked up or cut him off after he paused or said something wrong.
>>
>>58332511
No extra battery. I bought the phone only a few months ago. Oh well. I'll get a OP3. Thanks.
>>
>>58332623
No thanks. His shaking hands keep brushing against the screen and hitting all the buttons that he doesn't want to hit. A physical keyboard lets him input the letters he wants and ONLY the letters he wants.

Why are you trying to stop my grandpa from doing what's best for himself? You don't own us, you don't get to tell us what to do.

Just look at the horror story of >>58332649. Your way of life sounds miserable.
>>
>>58332627
oh cool, yea I was thinking of getting the Mi Max instead because im home most of the time and I like watching videos and playing games on my phone in bed so it would be nice with a big screen.
>>
>>58332661
So you want the physical keyboard meme to come back, with super small keys? Doesn't make sense, old people have more trouble with smaller keys than larger keys.

Also can you actually read what I'm trying to say?
>>
Is the Moto X good? Any good ROMs for it?
>>
>>58332686
>>58332661
theres this thing called usb otg, maybe get a mechanical keyboard and attach it to the phone my plebs

>>58332669
its amazing, i havent really bothered with my pc for the past few days after getting it
>>
>>58332686
So you want to stop physical keyboards from coming back? You don't use them for yourself, so nobody else should be allowed to use them either without your permission? What's wrong with having choice?

The size of the keys isn't his problem. The problem is that accidentally brushing against them is accepted as input. With physical keys, a brush is not input because you have to push them forcefully. That's what he wants, an end to accidental input from shaking hands.
>>
>>58332395

I'm in the United States.

I have a TAG mobile SIM (mine seems to use T-mobile network) with which I do NOT plan on using data.

And I have a Verizon SIM from a tablet.

As far as features go I'm not picky I guess. OTG cable capability would be nice, if that is even an actual thing.

I'd like to spend between $150 and $250, but whatever.

Size of the phone doesn't really matter.

Well, ok.

I have a OnePlus 3. Spent $525 Monopoly money (read: Canadian) on this thing.
Screen: good, not the best. Compared it to the iPhone 6s and Galaxy S7 edge. Better than the iPhone, but the s7 edge is on another planet. All in all, good enough for the price.

Performance: insane. Like really freaking good. Got the Nougat update, and it's been really smooth. Not ugly anymore either because there's a white theme. Buttery smooth too. Did notice some hiccups since the update though. Nothing even close to me not recommending it.

Battery: fair. Not great. The s7 edge does better. I get about a day of moderate use out of it. Like 4.5-5 hours sot. Though new software so it might need time to settle down.
Dash charging makes this pretty much a non issue though. It's fast.

Build: great. I'd say on par with the iPhone's.

Sound: it gets loud and now has a built in equalizer. One thing though, and this is Android wide, but the fucking volume slider does not have enough steps in it. Apple has like 30, so you can get the perfect volume. Even fucking Microsoft does this with Windows. With Android, it's either too loud or not loud enough. impossible to hit the sweet spot with the volume buttons.

It is good. It's not great or the best, but is more than good enough at the price. Can it better? Fuck yeah. Does absolutely need to be? No, because it's bright enough to be visible in daylight, vivid AF (thanks based AMOLED). If you're coming from a Samsung, then yeah, you're gonna be crazy disappointed. Like this screen isn't even half as good as the S7. You do notice the pixels. But not enough that I would say it's a deterrent. Besides, it's fucking $525.

You young 'uns won't remember, but we used to be able to send messages from inside our pockets or while driving without looking at the screen. Then the iPhone came along and ruined that.

Pic related, other than web browsing phones haven't really got better than the N95, just more fragile and with worse battery life.
>>
>>58335288
AMOLED is the best, period. One you go (true) black, you won't go back.
>>
>>58335459
You're overrating AMOLED on phones, it is better, but not impactful enough to warrant buying/not buying a phone.
Good LCD works just fine for your phone, you're not gonna films on your phones anyway.

Between Huawei P9 Lite (2GB RAM), Lenovo K6 Note, Honor 7 Lite, and Alcatel Idol 4 which is the best choice?
I selected those smartphones from my price range (~190USD) and requirements (1080p screen, high PPI, 3GB RAM, recent OS + updates, LTE 800, 1800, 2600).

Now, I know for sure that P9lite will get Nougat, but what about the rest of these phones? Is there a confirmed source for all OS upgrades where I can check it? I use my phones for around 2 years so system updates are quite important to me.

Do you guys have any other propositions? Is there anything announced on CES or rumoured for Q1 that I should wait for?

it's not, that SoC has issues that prevents the A72 cores from functioning much and a weaker GPU, the same SoC is in the redmi note 4 and it's a slower device than the redmi note 3 pro because it uses mediatek.

I've purchased 3 doogee phones (X5, X5S, X5 MAX) and 5 xiaomi phones (2x RN3P, R3S, 2x Mi4C), doogee's quality doesn't compare to xiaomi at all.

There is no OS consistency at all with doogee. all the phones I have are very different, one came with an awesome icon pack one came with a disgusting icon pack, some came with malware preinstalled and were completely unrootable. The utilities and information out there for flashing mediatek devices even to just the stock ROM to remove the malware on the system partition is complete SHIT.

Everything is super easy on xiaomi for rooting and flashing, it's all very organized. At least if I buy a xiaomi phone I know exactly how to root and flash whatever I want because it's the same across the line for all of them, and because xiaomi updates like 30 devices in MIUI updates every device has a new version of the OS. Even old devices on kitkat get MIUI8 and look like the new nougat devices.
>>
>>58335770
oh also, security updates with the latest android security patch

even 3 year old xiaomi phones get android security updates monthly
>>
>>58335756
That depends very much on screen size 5"+ is shit with less than 1080p, you just can't get away from the low pixel density.
>>
>>58335619
Well if you still want to stick with the Nexus line, you could go with the (yes slightly older) 5X or 6P, which still is currently supported by Google, and you should be alright with ROM support past the time that Google stops pushing updates to them. Just hope you don't get any with bootloop issues.
>>
>>58335770
>Everything is super easy on xiaomi for rooting and flashing,

You don't need to root or flash, most people are ok with the phone when they receive it. Doogee is cheap and better as is. No need to trouble yourself with flashing and stuff.
>>

>>58335875
no, you missed what I said in my post

I -NEEDED- to root OR flash because of malware in the rom that came from gearbest. Without it the phone was nearly unusable because it kept showing full screen advertisements that were extremely confusing for anyone using it (60x20 pixel chinese banners scaled up to like 720p type of thing).

I knew where the malware was, but it was on the system partition so I needed root to remove it or disable it. I tried to root it for 2 hours with no go.

I ended up fixing it by downloading the MTK flashing tools and the stock doogee rom (which, was fucking hard to find since doogee's site is shit), and the mediatek utilities themselves are so archiac in comparison to the utilities you use on qualcomm devices, that it was confusing getting the rom flashed, it wasted a lot of time.

Why are some people so defensive about owning a Note 7?
>>

What I gathered from it was that it was a damn good phone, except it obviously met an untimely end. Dunno why people would be defending it exploding though

Why is no one recommending the OnePlus X? It's the best phone you can get for $200 right? I'm looking to replace my old Moto g but I don't want anything bigger than 5 inches or more than $200.
>>
>>58336128
because it's over a year old and uses the old housefire 801 SoC, it's worse than some $100 phones available like the mi4c

I dont know what that housefire thing is, what phone compares to it then? I love the size of my Moto G and I really don't want anything bigger than 5".
>>
>>58336128
Because both Google and Qualcomm are Jews and refuse to update it. Qualcomm won't release updated drivers for Nougat for the 801, and Google won't allow Nougat to run on said soc without those drivers, even though Sony has shown it can run perfectly.

I'm a college student with a Samsung Galaxy S4, should I get the HTC 10, Samsung S7, Google Pixel, or wait?

I care about display and lag, camera. I listen to music a lot but I think that is dependent on my headphones and not the phone itself, I don't care about external audio. I write emails and sometimes do a lot of reading on my phone through the internet like on websites (not ebooks).

Whatever I pick I'm going to be using it for a decent amount of time.
>>
>>58336242
S7 or pixel. Simply comes down to what features you want.

Also, no lie, but bitches love randomly talking about the edge screens on those S7s with curved displays. So if you want to spend big, go for that. Otherwise, just see what feature you want. Can't go wrong with either desu

Out of the three A9 has the best specs but at 6" I might be too big for you, in which case I'd take the Xperia X. You had the G4 so you should already know to avoid LG

>>
>>58336341
I'd consider the S7 edge over the normal S7 for the bigger screen and larger battery
>>
>>58336372

Yeah, 6" has been more of a detractor even with its nice specs from doing a comparison of all three.

I'm torn on the 5X since I hear good things and the G4 outside of the boot loop was not a bad phone at all for me personally, granted I've heard horror stories.

Bought a Moto G4 Plus, upgrading from a Lumia 520. Seems pretty good so far, loving the cameras.

couple questions:
what should I be doing to prevent theft/track the phone if I lose it or it gets stolen? is Cerberus still the to-go app? do I need to root it to get whatever app to survive wipes?

how do I go about ricing it? I'm aiming toward pic related as a result, something minimal

are the wiki's app recommendations up to date? all the icons are old as shit, I can't even find the 4chan readers on the appstore. what's the best one currently?
>>
>>58336832
Nah. Both of them are horrendous and I don't see why anyone would spend more than $200 to get a device with shit software that's trying so hard to be iOS. Xiaomi is permitted because most of their devices are under $200, so it's reasonable to get them, and then flash an acceptable rom.
>>
What's a good smartphone with lots of ram and good read/write speeds on its internal storage for fast app opening and loading?

Is there's a thing where you replace your phones internal storage with faster one? kind of like swapping your HDD for an SSD.

Will using a U3 rated micro SD card make a difference on android?
>>
>>58336876
I'm thinking of getting a moto G4 plus. Would you recommend it? Are there any problems with it?
>>
>>58336935
I think the last mass testing was done in like early 2015 so we don't have recent results.
Doubt it.
All SD cards are abysmal in Android. They will fuck up/slow down the system. Perhaps not to a noticeable degree depending on quality of card, but Android just doesn't play nice with it.
Overall, I wouldn't get attached to any of that shit until UFS hits the market realistically.

It's my very first android phone, picked it up because I really like the Moto E2 I got my mom.

My first impressions are generally positive, the hardware is nice and the software is moto's usual low-bloat 'stock' android, plenty responsive and smooth even with 1080p playback. It feels a little phablet-y, thin with a big camera bump. The case I bought along with it (Incipio octane, one of two lenovo has on their website as a 'recommended' case) solves the camera bump issue, gives it a nice grip, and a nice thickness for holding it with both hands.

The screen is gorgeous, the cameras are very good, and the fingerprint reader is surprisingly pretty handy and not as much of a meme as I expected. It's big (5.5 inch screen, not much bezel) but comfortable to hold, I can see myself getting used to it.

My only complaints with it are that it doesn't have some of the Moto G3's nicest features (big stereo speakers, full water resistance, curved back with no camera bump) but it's a solid phone, definitely one of the best in it's price range. I recommend you go to a shop and hold one (g4 or g4 plus) in your hands, get a feel for the size and weight and see if it's something you'll be happy with, or if you'd rather go for something smaller like the g3 (pic related)
>>
>>58333524
i have it, running 5.1, performance are pretty good, software is a little buggy, camera is decent, battery is 3h of screen.
Second screen is pretty much useless unless you read ebooks, but if you use it as a primary screen (mirroring), the battery will drain much slower, so it's fine if you use messaging apps a lot.
Russian users are currently beta testing Marshmallow, hopefully it will fix all the current bugs
For 100€ is pretty much the best phone you can buy at the moment

Please recommend me a phone which has these:

- budget 100 to 200€
- SD card slot
- custom ROMS, unlocked bootloader, not mediatek/exynos trash
- FullHD screen
- not a chinkphone that has to be imported

Same specs but stock Android so it's better.

What do you guys think of the Xiaomi Note 4 with the Snapdragon 625?

I have an iPhone but am thinking of getting one of these just for fun.
>>
>>58343590
Or is the Mediatek X20 better?

Moto G4/G4 plus

>Xiaomi Note 4 with the snapdragon 625
Doesn't exist. Do you mean the Redmi 4 Pro?
>>
Are the iphone and xperia compacts seriously the only high end smartphones that one can comfortably use with one hand and without doing hand gymnastics? Why the fuck is every smartphone nowadays 6 inches or so? It's a fucking phone. What's next, ultrawide phones? Phones with 3 screens?
>>
I've been using an ASUS zenfone 2 recently and I'm getting dissappointed with the lack of consistent updates.

Any good phones that are similar that'll:
Work with a t-mobile prepaid simcard
has a significant data storage atleast 32gb but 64gb pref
and has the ability to be rooted?

Budget is sitting around $300-350
>>
>>58343702
You can look for phones with one-hand modes. It's kind of comfy.
>>
>>58343738
Nah, I really don't care about giant screens anymore. I'm coming from an xperia z3 and while I liked the phone it's just a phone in the end of the day. I'm just gonna use it for messages, light browsing, occasional 4chan, photos and whatnot, which I certainly don't need a giant unwieldly screen for, so I'm going for phones that can fit perfectly on one hand without gimmicks involved. So far it seems only the iphone and z5/x compact are up to the task but I don't like ios and I can't find the xperias anywhere.
>>
>>58342838

Don't buy that crap, it's practically Phone: The Lag. Look at these guts, no way it can handle android 6.0
>>
What are /g/ approved chinkphones that have Cyanogenmod compatibility? Preferably have USB Type-C.

hey guys
so i just rooted my s7 edge, g935t through tmobile i got about a week ago. i dont plan on doing any custom rom, just gonna wait for samsung to deliver 7.1.1 and see what i wanna do from there.

anyway, the last time i rooted a phone was the original htc one (m7), and while the process was mostly the same, weird stuff happened this time around.

firstly, i have this new icon on my notification bar, as shown in the image. lol what is it?
secondly, somehow whenever i turn off wifi or restart the phone, it doesnt remember my wifi settings/password. whats up with that? ill have to enter it every time now?
and thirdly i have this lag/heat problem the xda thread even talked about, but then he talks about fixing it by doing all this pd8 stuff and im just like wtf man

things seem so much better/easier back then. whats going on?
>>
>>58343687
O shit ye, what is the difference between the two?

Redmi 4 Prime has a 5" screen, Note has a 5.5" screen, but CPU in Note is a pile of crap. Neither have global ROM.
>>
>>58344013
knox, youre fucked mane and now the warrany is no longer valid, thats why you never root normalfag shitphones, only motorolas, htcs and xiaomis
>>
Guys!! Is the mi4 worth getting in 2017???
>>
>>58344241
Get the mi4c instead
>>
>>58344170
>>58344221
ye, seems to have been a bad idea. i dont really care about phones enough to keep up with them to know this stuff. goddamn jews.

guess ill just factory reset. dont care if the warranty is fucked really.
>>
>>58344274
Youll still be rooted or with the bootloader unllocked, your only choice now is flashing the stock rom back and hoping knox re locks itself
>>
Zuk Z2 White is on sale at BG for US 165 with coupon: zukz2new

>>
>>58344304
>flashing the stock rom
yeah thats what i meant basically.
how important is knox relocking itself? im just trying to avoid the issues i described, not worried about the warranty. does knox really need to fix itself in order for my wifi to start remembering passwords again, and for my device to stop lagging?
>>
>>58344370
its unrelated to your wifi issues if thats what youre asking, you probably fucked up somewhere else because rooting only trips the knox code which prevents you from using the nfc for things like android pay and also no ota updates, at this point i would go for a custom rom honestly
>>
So what do you incoherent factory reject dildos automate on your phones? I need some ideas, so far I only automate wallpapers for a specific usage (no random wallpaper of the day app fuck that shit).
>>
>>58344310
>white phones
>>
Can you guys recommend me a verizon phone i can get a 2 yr plan on? thanks brehs
>>
>>58344516
i know it seems impossible that it could fuck that stuff up, but tons of other people are reporting the same problem(s)(including wifi), and apparently the fix is to flash some other firmware, with varying results based on who knows what. but thats where it gets confusing because everyone talks about flashing 10 million different firmwares that work for them, and im just sitting here like, man this is retarded

i only did this to get adaway because ads have gotten particularly worse over time too. i didnt expect all this shit, and the people dont warn of problems until after the guide to root. what a sham.

How much better is the Moto Z compared to the Moto X? Best Buy has the 64GB version for $250 outright.

iPhone 6s+

To clarify, Best Buy has the Moto X for $250, not the Moto Z.

I don't understand the obsession for custom ROMS, sure they give you neat features but they're also buggy as fuck because of pajeetcodes

I finally upgraded from my iphone 5s to an HTC 10. It arrived today so I haven't had much time to play around with it but there are a few things that I don't like about it. It is my first time using an android phone so please tell if any of these things can be fixed in the settings etc.

-The screen. It doesn't always register that I'm touching the screen if I touch it too lightly or with he side of my thumb. Glove mode didn't seem to increase the sensitivity. I've never had a problem with this on my 5s. Scrolling also sucks. It's very slow and takes a while for me to go from the top to bottom of a web page and because the screen isn't very responsive, the scrolling speed is very inconsistent despite swiping my finger at relatively similar speed and distance..this makes it feel very laggy. As far as the colors go, I could only tell that the white on the HTC 10 isn't nearly as white as my 5s, either that or the brightness doesn't go up as high.

-This may be a problem with chrome but watching videos on chrome (haven't tested with youtube) is an awful experience. Going into and out of fullscreen mode is clunky and worst of all, all videos are choppy and feel the same as a game playing at 30fps..the same videos on my 5s are smooth+lag free. It's also kinda worth mentioning that any video not 720p or higher looks like complete shit but that should be obvious.

Download speeds are bad too. I get a 42 Mbps on the Internet Speed Test while my iphone gets 52. It's noticeable too. I don't know why this is because I'm beside my router which is capable of 802.11/ac and I have 300 down which I do get on my computer.

And for the little things. I hate that I have to swipe down twice to get to the functions/features like the flashlight. Zooming in on the photos app is difficult to do using both thumbs. I have small hands so its tedious reaching across my phone to access my tabs on chrome. Hearthstone is laggy and loading times are slow!

sry for long autistic post

Why can't Android phones just have more volume steps? From my understanding it's not a difficult tweak that OEM's or even Google could make to increase the volume steps.
>>
Opinions about the honor 5C? Will it get cyanogenmod? It has a Kirin 650 SoC and huawei released the open source.

sup /g/ents, gettin pretty tired of the no-4G in America Xiaomi memery with my Redmi Note 3 Pro. Think its finally time to get something with proper US support.

Is there anything as good as the RN3P with good USA support (taking into account cheap RNP3 price, etc)?

Main things I care about:
-SD card slot
-long battery life
-fingerprint scanner (I love using it....but I guess its optional)

I'm with cricket wireless but gonna switch to T-Mobile soon.

Anyone have experience with buying Smartphones on Amazon?
I'm looking to purchase two phones, preferably Andriod with around $500 budget. The review system is wonky on Amazon for phones.
Regular web browsing and battery life important for one.
Good camera and web browsing important for the other.

Any tips in the right direction are greatly appreciated.
