so how bad is xiaomis privacy policy? i read it but it seems odd that even a themes app or a gallery app needs it, plus the gallery app needs access to contacts? odd...

could someone please recommend replacement apps for everything on a xiaomi phone (red mi note 3) that would require agreeing to the bonkers privacy and permissions.

also i quite like the way it's set up out of the box, but should i bother with rooting and custom roms? i mainly want gappsless device but i can just disable all gapps and crappy xiaomi apps
>>
>>58304167
You can always deny permissions if you want, look in the security app it's fairly comprehensive. I'd imagine the gallery app requests access to contacts so that you can share images with them, it's nothing nefarious.
>>
>>58304212
denying permission s stops the app working and declining the privacy statement also stops it running
>>
>should I bother with rooting and customs
Well installing an AOSP- based custom ROM would get rid off all the Xiaomi apps but you'd lose MIUI too. There's also the xiaomi.eu ROM that's MIUI but with some of the bloat removed (and some other improvements too)

Rooting allows you to do stuff such as remove system apps, block ads, install a firewall to block internet access for certain apps
>>
Can you unlock a phone if your root it? I can root my phone but there are no Custom ROMs that support it (Vodafone Smart Ultra 7).
>>
>>58304779
No. you need to pay to unlock it to other networks.

MIUI 7 was absolutely unusable. Always check there's a CM of Lineage ROM for your device before buying anything chink.

Does a phone even exist with a 5"-5.2" display, good specs, a 1080p screen, and front facing speakers that's not the price of an iPhone? Honestly my Moto G 2014 came the fucking closest. Perfect size, front facing speakers, contoured to the hand. If only it didn't have 1GB of RAM, 8 GB of storage, and a shitty SG400.
>>
>>58306375
RN3P or OP3T depending on your budget
>>
>>58306451
Just curious, but why do front facing speakers even matter so much? What are you doing with them?
>>
>>58306456
How is the data speed in the USA? Would it still be fine without LTE? I'm on ATT
>>
>>58306477
Honestly they don't thaaat much, like if a phone existed even with the other parameters I'd buy it. But front facing speakers are really nice once you have them. I watch YouTube videos without headphones, so it's nice for the sound to actually be going towards your face rather than out to the side, so you don't have to do the weird cuppy thing with your hand
>>
>>58306506
Consider Xiaomi Mi5 if you're not in America or don't care about LTE.

I recently purchased an Oukitel U20 Plus which I was planning to use with my old tracfone sim. I can recieve calls and sms, but I am unable to get the 3g working, so I have no mms or data. I previously researched the network bands covered by tracfone and I should be supported on their 3g network. I think that I may have the apn settings wrong but the ones i find online dont work. I also see a setting called plmn which is something about network ids but I cant find any info on it. Can anyone help?
>inb4 tracfone is shit

>>
>>58306791

>>
>>58306217
what is xiaomi eu and how does it differ from the ROM that comes with the phone

A semi-custom ROM based on China Dev with all the chink removed and lots of extra qol tweaks. Also has more and better localisation options than miui global.

Camera any good in low light or support the camera2 api/able to use manual modes with it? And does the screen get bright enough for outdoor use and have decent viewing angles?

>The camera isn’t doing the Moto G4 Play any favors, either. The good news is that the camera app snaps pictures quickly and in great lighting conditions, photos look good. Unfortunately, in any other scenario they’re grainy, blurry, and out of focus.

>Most of the G4 Play’s competitors have far better cameras, and both the G4 and the G4 Plus produce superior photos. ZTE’s ZMax Pro costs $50 less at just $100 and it has a 13-megapixel camera that blows the G4 Play’s camera out of the water. Granted, it’s only available on MetroPCS.

>The Moto G4 Play’s camera will get you by, but stay far away from this phone if that’s a priority. It’s one of the most disappointing features on the phone.

Xperia Z3+ owner here, it's alright

It has a radio tuner so I can listen to car dealer commercials at work, and it gets warm enough in my pocket to damage my sperm and melt candybars

It didn't break when I dropped it 4 feet onto concrete, and supposedly it's waterproof

Allegedly it's supposed to get 7.0 at some point, which will be great so that my japanese comic books will stop using the fucking chinese kanji forms which you can't fucking change in 6.0

It has a bunch of useless shit you can do with a PS4 such as using it as a tiny television screen if you're a mutant who has evolved four hands to hold your phone and a controller at the same time.

The stock rom plus security updates shouldnt take more than 8 GB, now add your default apps and updates and you will end up with about 50 GB free to store whatever you want on it, i personally never buy phones without sd slot, its not that i store more than 20 GB of data at a given time on my phone but im paranoid about backing up everything i have to the sd card after losing a shitload of things to a random bootloop on a 32 gb nexus 5x.

Check sound (with/without headphone), 4G, Wifi, call/send sms, play some intense game to check if phone isnt overheating, transfer some data to/from, take pics/videos, check battery status.

Anything else i forgot?

As a flipfag myself, I'd advise you to gtfo. The aliexpress boat is full. Also customs tax is charged if you use DHL or other expedited service like EMS. Regular free shipping via chink post costs P 112 or $2+ to get your parcel, so you'll pay extra $6+ to get 3 packets of less than $1 chinkshit each. It will take a month or more to get items with battery, my point n shoot sony battery bought during november 11, 2016 has been sent first to Singapore then to the Netherlands then just arrived here on my local post office this morning. Ones that don't have battery takes 2 weeks the fastest via Singapore Post or Hong Kong Post or almost 2 months via China Post.

So now stop liking what I like. Just buy shit from CDRKing.

Spic here, my aunt has it and its pretty decent for its price (4100 mxn on walmart) although the screen though amoled could definitely have been better, 720p is for 4.5" or 5" phones, not phablets like the J7 2016, just my opinion but i dont like the saturated colors of amoled phones either, i prefer lcd.

For example the only other phone for around the same price, the Moto G4 (4299) has the exact same specs but with a 1080p lcd panel, slightly smaller battery (3000 vs 3300 mAh) and a shitpile for a camera, the J7 is definitely better, just know that it will overheat on games and dont expect any sort of updates whether security, touchwizz or android version, samsung keeps only their flagships mantained and treats their budget lines as disposable, it might get some stable CM/RR ports in the future but dont count on them, still, my aunt has had it since may 2016 and its still pretty fast even though she bloats it with fagbook, instagram, twitter, messenger, whatsapp, some flashy lockscreen, cheetah CM cleaner (lel), ram booster and other shitty placebo and social apps like the good normalfag she is.

I would still consider some other phones like an old flagship or a imported chinkphone.

hey guys, I came here saying I was having my apps crash on me yesterday on my Xperia Z3V. well i rebooted it and it said it was optimizing all my apps, which i figured was a good thing because I had no idea why it was giving me this issue.

well now, I woke up and the phone said "unfortunately, the process com.android.phone has stopped" repeatedly and i couldnt do anything so I rebooted the phone again, and now it's in an endless loop of rebooting. This is the first time it's given me trouble, all I did was update my apps. Didn't think it would fuck my phone up this bad.

any way to save it besides a full reset? I didn't back up my pictures onto my SD card for like a week and I had some stuff on there i'd like to have.

>>
>>58324681
factory reset won't touch the SD card, but to be safe I already took it out so it doesn't get corrupted or anything. And it's already past that loop, it won't even boot up now, its just in an endless state of rebooting. I tried plugging it into my PC and it recognizes it while it's turning on, then instantly turns off right about when it gets to the verizon screen part of the boot up process. tried safe mode as well, same result.

I'm about to sell my Axon 7.
I fucking hate the thing. It was like buying an early-access game on steam that the devs abandoned. The software is so shit. So I put the unofficial cyanogen rom on it. Performance went up, but the front facing speakers became distorted, the camera would fuck up from time to time, so many little things.
Meanwhile I'm sitting here remembering my Note 4. Perfect software, great screen, removable battery...

I am never buying a phone that isn't on cyanogen's (or lineage now) latest OS. Or doesn't let me unlock the bootloader, or has a closed battery. Has anything beat the note 4 since then?

What kind of tax? Chinese vendors usually offer to write down low price on their packaging so sometimes the item can go through without requiring you to pay import tax

90 dollars, stock android, 2gb ram, 5", 2800 mAh, sd slot

The perfect replaceable phone if you live in a fucked up place, it wont hurt if daquan steals it
>>
>>58329273
>90 dollars
what
>>
the edge is so fucking annoying actually

thank god i have a case because without it if you grip it at all youll be zooming in when attempting to scroll down
>>

>UMi

Pls no

Some 13 year old called me a normie because I have one. I'm on Verizon in rural Kansas, it's the best phone with the best service. I love the phone. If you get the Note5 you will need Package Disabler Pro for it.
>>
>>58303897
I can get a g4 play or an honor 5x for the same price. What do?
>>
>>58330268
get the honor 5x, how is this even a question, the g4p is more of a phone that you get if you want the absolute minimum specs for a "good" fluid smartphone in 2016 without paying more than 100 dollars, lets compare the phones

-2 gb ram, both have the same although there is an specific honor 5x model that has 3 gb ram, no idea on where to get it but if i had to guess its gotta be a special edition sold only on the designated shitting streets of india

-SD616, g4p has SD410

-MUCH better camera, g4p is gameboy camera tier

-3000 mAh, g4p has 2800 but its removable, which one is better depends on you

-5.5" 1080p, g4p has 5" 720p, again depends on whether you want better overall resolution and size for that 1080p hentai OVAs on bed versus slightly more SoT and better one handed use

-fingerprint scanner, g4p and even the normal g4 lack this although i consider it more of a hassle to use one if you truly want privacy

the only downside i see on the h5x is that it looks like a generic cheapo xiaomi phone, the honor 8 is much more stylish although quite a bit more expensive

Currently have a motog4 plus. Shit is nice and smooth unless you're trying to play some really high graphic shit. Charge usually lasts me a whole day with tons of on screen time. def worth the 250
>>
>>58325869
how do i change the captchas on clover?
>>
>>58330633
Thanks for the detailed response anon. Much obliged.
>>
>>58330810
its ok m8, next time just buy a cheap chinkphone for ~150 dolaroos, guaranteed it will have specs rivaling 2014 flagships for less than a third of the price
>>
Does Asus make good phones?
>>
>>58330998
chinkphones
>>
I'm not asking for anything specific, but what general models and brands of phone fit these requirements?

> <$200
>No more than 5.2" display
>A somewhat decent camera of at least 8 MP (I know there are no great quality cameras in this price range)
>A somewhat decent battery (doesn't have to be great)
>SD card slot
>UI is fairly close to stock Android
>Preferably, not a chink phone, e.g. Xiaomi, Meizu, OnePlus

I'm excluding chink phones because my current one has given me more headaches than usefulness.
>>
For the Axon 7, do any of the methods for unlocking the bootloader make it so that you can't do a system update without manually sideloading?
>>
>>58331185
You pretty much cut out all phones in that price range if not chink. Moto is chink, asus is chink, alcatel is chink, zte is chink, etcetc.
>>
>>58331185
Pixel XL
>>
>>58315074
iPhone because >>58315123

>>58316899
Pixel is not top tier, it's only expensive tier
>>
>>58331185
Chink phones are fine now. It's current year.
>>
>>58317921
No SD card slot
>>
>>58331220
Fair point, but I meant more like along the lines of the examples I gave. I have no problems with ASUS, Moto, Alcatel, or Huawei. I don't want Xiaomi or Meizu if I can avoid it.

>>58331232
I'm not very happy with my Redmi Note 3. It has too many peculiarities for my liking.
>>
>>58331298
So in actuality you don't care where it's made, you just want something with an accessible warranty
>>
>>58331310
Yeah, pretty much. I'm sorry if it was confusing. I was just using 'chink' in the demotic sense.
>>
>>58331298
If you're fine with Huawei and a 5.5" display then the honor 5x is a safe bet. I'd recommend a case though because the brushed metal is slippery.
>>
>>58328248
Mi4c is almost the same as the Nexus 5X and it's often at $99 usd
>>
I'm thinking of selling my HTC 10 because I'm having terrible battery life and god awful WiFi problems (it barely holds a connection no matter how close I am to the router), and the software lags in places I wouldn't expect it to lag.

What's a good option for a phone? I'm thinking the OP3T since it's about a 1:1 exchange where I am, or if I want to splurge I could go for the Pixel (Non XL cause I like smaller phones). What should I do?
>>
>>58331362
Unfortunately, the Honor 5X is quite incompatible with most of my country's frequencies, especially 3G.
>>
>>58314526
Your'e forgetting it's shit.

Can I sand down this M8? The paint is cracked and I think silver looks better
>>
>>58331201
yeah, but seriously only use the unofficial CM rom. it's great, GPS can be a bit fucky though
>>
>>58303897
Once LG G4 bootloop fixed, it wont happen again?
>>
I am currently in chinkland. Needed a new phone since my nexus 6 got fucked in the ass. RIP

Went out and got a new phone here, huawi gr5 2017. They said it's 5 days old, it's fucking dirt cheap. Got home and saw that the specs are on par with the nexus 6 with all the new features and gimmicks of today. What is the catch? This phone is way to cheap for what it is offering. Although I do miss muh AMOLED black levels.

Nextbit Robin.
>>
>>58331709
Heh. Looks like mine. HK edition as well here. Cool phone. Mine's totally fucking dented up as well, I've just stopped giving a fuck about it.
>>
>>58331794
It's a renamed Honor 6x.

It's alright but nothing special.
>>
>>58331854
What is the point of rebranding?
>>
>>58331901
Different names for different markets. no idea why Huawei keeps doing it but whatever.
>>
>>58331716
I think I'll wait a bit until they release the officially supported version to try. I don't mind the stock ROM though like a lot of people seem to. I just want root and the only methods seem to be through unlocking the bootloader. Was much easier to root on my Zenfone 2. I can't tell if these methods even work anymore since they're all for B20 and 27, and the current is 29.
>>
I'm looking for an Android phone for a family member. Can you recommend some phones with have these specs:

- Price range 100 - 170€
- sd slot and removable battery
- custom ROM support or official updates
- not a chinkphone

I'm living in Germany
>>
>>58332264
i unlocked my bootloader. it's not that difficult but don't fuck it up, the guides are formatted weirdly
>>
>>58332279
Chink phones excels in that price range. Xiaomi, huawei, oppo
>>
>>58332331
Almost all of them use a mediatek soc and dont have a removable battery.

whats the closest I can get to the redmi note 3 pro in a phone I can buy in europe?

720p on 5.5" sounds really low.
>>
>>58332495
Your problem for not wanting the GOAT RN3P.
>>
>>58332514
The only problem with it is that I dont get the 2 years of warranty from dodgy importers.
>>
>>58332537
>>58332279
No one is doing removable batteries anymore other than LG and low end Samsung and they all suck.
>>
>>58332514
>phone doesn't even have bands
>battery doesn't come out
lol no thanks
>>
>>58329137
Its import tax. I know they usually do, but here in Slovenia i still have to send receipt sometimes and they see its above 20€ which isnt tax free anymore
>>
>>58332495
is having a shit resolution a huge issue? i feel like it would save battery anyway and i'm not autistic about screen shit

LG G3 & AT CKS99.jpg
513KB, 1916x1136px
>have LG G3
>screen breaks after owning it for a year
>get a replacement Asus Zenphone
>screen breaks within a month
>buy a cheap lg phoenix 2
>buy a case for it

While it's not as good as my G3, it's no where near as shit as the ZP I had. I might get it back when the screen prices drop down a bit more.
>>
>>58329753
> cue you're holding it wrong
Works on my phone.
