The most important thing in buying vintage watches is RESEARCH so that you can tell for yourself what you should buy and what you should avoid.

That's a good-looking watch. I'm surprised that it has a dive bezel though; a 1-12 bezel for the hours would make more sense since it doesn't have an hour subdial, and it's a racing style.
>>
>>58296809
I just like the stop2go. Since they're copying the style of the railway clocks, copying the (interesting) functionality they have makes sense.

It's one of those cases where I'd get the quartz version over the mechanical. It's a quartz with a very idiosyncratic feature, compared to an off the shelf boring-ass ETA.

I won it in a giveaway and don't have a watch with a 24mm lug width.
Now I'm looking at cheap watches with that lug width just to be able to use the strap. So far I've only seen Panerai knockoffs (Marina Militare), huge divers, and the Seiko Recraft.
>>
>>58295412

Google. Start with "Seiko 52xx" "Seiko 45xx" "King Seiko" "Seiko LM Special" and learn what variants of these models were made, and in what case/dial/hand combinations.

Also learn why 56xx Seikos with date or day/date complications should be avoided.

Don't bother looking at vintage Grand Seikos, they have enough of a following domestically and internationally that you are unlikely to find any underpriced examples.
>>
>>58296761

It's a proxy bidding service. You make an account on Buyee and then use the Buyee site to be able to search and bid on Y! JP auctions.

Nice thing about Buyee is that you don't have to deposit money with them to bid on auctions, you only pay if you win.

If you win an item, it gets shipped to Buyee and then Buyee ships it to you based on what shipping option you paid for.

The upside is that you can find vintage JDM watches for much cheaper than eBay. The downside is that you have close to zero buyer protection, unlike eBay.

Well I get referred to as "the fat Canadian" in these threads, I'm definitely obese, and a standard length leather strap fits me just fine.

Nonetheless, I'm fairly certain that Bulang & Sons carry extra long versions of their straps, and if they don't you can order extra long versions from VintageStraps.it

If you want a cheaper option, ColaReb may also make extra long versions of their straps.

Well apparently it's made from the leather of a 40 years old French ammunition pouch.
The leather does look alright, but the stitching is pretty shit and so is the keeper.
I'd say worth $50 maybe, if you consider the "vintage leather" provenance to add worth. I definitely wouldn't have paid $200 for it, and probably not $30 either.

It's shit mate. The stitching looks terrible at the corners. The cuts seem to be poorly done. The edges aren't properly treated so that will fray/damage over time. I don't even know if it's properly padded considering how thin it is. It's not a nylon or nato leather strap or anything so why isn't there padding?. I honestly don't see how that can go for $215 when I can get quality alligator straps for that price.
>>
>>58301535
And you haven't seen the underside. The more I look at it and handle it, the worse it seems to get.
>>

Depends on what you'd like to make. It's difficult to finish the edges of upholstery leather and have it look good. It'll also be pretty thick unless you can skive it down a little. I usually use 2-3oz vegetable tanned leather, but that's using dye and a bunch of other things. You could try looking for some oil tanned leather. You don't really need to groove leather for stitching so I wouldn't buy those.

First tell me what kind of strap you want to make.

That'll take a lot more tools. I would say no less than 100 euros.

Stitching punches, probably 2mm. Hole punch, edge Creaser, leather edge paint, thread, leather stitching needles, contact cement. Looks to be a predyed vegetables tanned leather, maybe calfskin.

Actually it's funny because literally everytime I see some kind of "higher up" in the kind of place where your presence as a worker means you failed at life, say some fast food or electronics store, like yes, a Denny's, the guy always has some mad holy grail on his wrist.

And he's forced to bow down in front of a guy wearing a SKX, even though I'm loaded as fuck. It's like those people really don't know how to handle their money, and it shows.

>>
>>58302397

How does handling your money have anything to do with the position of your job? The guy chooses to splurge on a watch, yet there you are with your skx afraid to even though you're "loaded as fuck."
>>
>>58302438

That's if you want it to look decent. I'm sure you could get away with less, but it won't look too great. The tools for the stitching are the majority of the cost.
>>
>>58302494
i guess your right thanks anon
>>
>>58302475
That kind of money could be invested in many things, which in turns, gives you more money.

I'm loaded as fuck, but only because i'm careful with my money, and if I'm not and splurge on plenty useless shit, soon I'll be poor as fuck.

Your job generally says a lot about you, about the choices you made in life, whether good or bad ones. An expensive watch just complements that: you made bad choices and keep on doing them, and you're not on any kind of path to improvement.

this is an elgin natlional watch co. pocket watch

i thought about trying to put it on ebay, working ones go for up to $100 and sometimes beyond that but this one isn't ticking. broken ones go for around $20. honestly, as I regularly sell stuff on ebay I already know that something like this likely won't gain much attention so I wanted to see if any of you want it since I know a few of you are actual watchmakers

I'll send this to anyone in the US for $10 with free shipping, would any of you even want it though?

I would outright give it for free if I didn't have to pay a few bucks at the post office, and a 3 for the bubble envelop + bubble wrap
>>
>>58302519

$2000 isn't going to make you any money.
Lawyeranon has hundreds of thousands worth of watches and continues to buy. If you're really loaded as fuck you can splurge on a watch and it won't make a difference.
>>
>>58302397
have you heard of the differences between "noveau rich" and "old money"?

newly found wealth compels former poorfags to act like morons, old money are so used to handling finances competently they are capable of abstaining from impulse buys

think I'm talking out of my ass? do a few searches on what happens to people when they live the lottery. give the average working class guy a million dollars - he can't control himself
>>
>>58302591
>$2000 isn't going to make you any money.

My company took me $1000 to start anon. Then I opened a bar in Thailand with some $300, then a second one for $500, and eventually a diving club for $4000. That's how little it takes.

Now "loaded as fuck" can mean many different things anon, but to me, it means "I can get anything I want and don't worry about tomorrow". Then I guess it's all a matter of "what you want". I'm probably not as loaded as this other anon, but even then, that wouldn't have me waste money, because I got so much by managing it properly in the first place.

>>58302606
That's quite the cliché desu, there are plenty poorfags that handle their money properly, and plenty richfags that go bankrupt over their own idiocy.

But when someone is poor and stays poor because he can't handle the little money he makes, clearly he won't do any better with a couple billions. Which the guy with a shitty job and a Rolex perfectly exemplifies: he could change his life, but it seems he just can't.

The watch is listed as 30m water resistance and also says "Will withstand rain or splashes but no swimming or diving." It has a 30m rating.

Actually Infantry is notorious for making copy versions of $200 watches.

it depends on what type want out of a watch. If you want a mechanical piece with complications with an in-house or mostly in-house movement and a thin case, then it will probably cost several thousand.

pfft if it doesn't have a seconds repeater it's not even worth it. This mid-tier, "I'll settle for dogshit" is why companies like AP keep churning out turds.

My Richard Mille perpetual star chart + seconds repeater is my only decent wristwatch but I love it. Got to be careful not to accidentally activate the seconds repeater because the whole thing starts ringing uncontrollably though.

IWC Ingenieur Vintage
Longines HydroConquest

My client's rich, he's a coal trader but I remembered he said his brother bought a fake watch for $500 and he told his brother that he shouldn't bought a fake watch for over $500-$600.

So yeah, maybe it's fake.
Authentic Chopard Happy Sport costs like €2,590.

Im in love with the Marloe Cherwell, however Im a hairless wristlet (16-17cm circumference) who usually wears vintage dress watches with diameters from 34 to 39mm.

Does anyone know a watch simiar in design, preferably not too expensive (used is ok for me) or should I just go for it?

desu you immediately fall in love with this watch when you see it, then you get it, wear it proudly, and then suddenly realize you can't wear it on anything aside from its original steel bracelet which is both hard to find and expensive, and a brown leather band, and no other color, and if you're not too much into either then you're FUCKED.

Then you realize you can't even wear it with anything except maybe a large brown leather coat, or a colored velvet suit, which unless you're old and with grey hair you can't realistically pull off without looking like a complete retard, because it has such a strong identity and color palette it goes along with nothing else really: green, silver and gold alone can only accomodate brown leather, black and grey kill the contrast, blue and red kill its style, green is just a sad echo to the true green of the dial, shark and milanese aren't good enough for this watch, NATO would be suicide... fabric straps are suitable, adding texture to the ensemble and giving much more contrast to the watch, but they still look cheap.

Then you gaze at it inside its box; what a true beauty! But not something you want to wear on your wrist. It's not like the watch isn't fitting, it is YOU that is not fitting the watch. And then you put it up on sale on eBay.

I'll get one again the day I'm old and can allow myself to dress like an old person, and that watch will be stunning on my wrist, and you should too keep it in mind for the day you finally have graying hair. But as long as you're young and dress like a young person does, no matter how classy you can be, it just won't suit your wrist.

Get one, just not now.

I guess you never had one on your wrist. Or maybe you can't even dress properly. No outfit decent for a young adult can suit this watch, its style is just too rich, too omnipresent, too colorful. I mean shit, look at the watch: SILVER, GOLD and EMERALD GREEN, that's too much for anything, and it makes it stand out way too much, or rather, it makes you stand out like a sore thumb.

I mean sure there are outfits suitable for a fashion show that could pull that off, but no normal being can wear it in everyday situations without looking like a complete clown. The rest is more mature styles which you can't pull off unless you're mature enough yourself.

But if you're so sure of yourselves, post your dank fits that would fit this watch /fa/ggots.
