Are there any other affordable Swiss self-winding movements being used other than the:

>Sellita SW200/300/400/500

Just curious because they are all I've ever seen outside of shit like AP and Piaget.

>>58267994
Depends what you mean by affordable. Rolex and Omega, for example, have Swiss self winding movements that aren't those, and much cheaper than AP or Piaget (though I wonder how you picked out those two?)
>>
Bullshit. This thread is for faggoty ass jewelry and it belongs in the fashion board.

Absolutely none of you give one shit about gears or drive springs so don't feed us that ' appreciation of micro engineering' shit either. Your here to talk about jewelry and wrist bands.

I was thinking of the Royal Oak and the Altiplano microrotor just as examples I know off the top of my head.

Actually I should have been more specific: freely-available ebauches. Omega and Rolex will of course crop up in such conversation, alongside Nomos, but I am actually curious about the options available outside of these few common ebauches in the <5k range.

I guess we're posting collections.

For 2017 I'm looking to swap out the awful leather band that came with the orient for something nicer, probably sailcloth. I also want to pick up a bit of a nicer watch to wear with a metal strap. I am pretty keen on accutrons and I'll probably look to pick up something from the accutron 2 collection by the end of the year.

Vostok without strap is amphibia with komandirskie watch face.

Accurist celestial, a rebrand of the citizen astrodea, which movement is also found in the campanola cosmosign. Quartz movement with sidereal time that rotates the background stellar disk once every 23 hours 56 minutes 4 seconds (or so, I forget how accurate it is. I think it's within 5 s/d of correct sidereal time) was a huge pain to track down, a huge pain to set correctly, and a huge pain to read, but very cool movement and attractive, detailed dial. There's a WUS thread with a whole bunch of info.

A disposable watch (sistem 51 is completely unserviceable) for when it absolutely has to be Swiss Made. If you have to have a Swiss made automatic and can't afford a Hamilton or Tissot, and can't bear to buy a seiko 5 or orient, it's your only option in the price range, but don't expect it to last more than maybe three years.

Are you the person from the previous thread?

Honestly if you find a sistem 51 design you like and have to have a Swiss mechanical watch, go for it, but understand it is a disposable toy (which to be honest isn't that different from a seiko 5, though the seiko will probably have a longer life, given that the swatch doesn't even have a jeweled fork, last I checked) and think hard about what you really want out of a watch - if you double your budget you can easily pick up a used Hamilton which would be much much better.

Happy New Year, dear anons!!!!

A few weeks ago, one of you m8s was kind enough to give me a link for a very rare Seiko that I have interest in, and in return asked me if I could show a pic of my collection.

As some of you know, my watch collection sleeps in a bank's vault so it's nowhere easy to take pics of it, starting by the fact that photographs are not allowed in that place.

However, a couple of months ago I moved from my old apartment to a place closer to my new offices and had also to move the collection to another bank's vault too, as the former one was now to far to go on a dayly basis.

So, long story short, during a weekend I had a bit more that two-thirds of my collection at home and I managed to take a nice pic of them. (Still missing, several high end and vintage, but anyway.)

Enjoy it.

For anyone who doesn't yet know, the Ulysse Nardin anchor escapement, and Girard-Perregaux constant force escapement both attempt to use thin strips of silicon that snap back and forth to try and smooth out and better utilize the varying power provided by a watch mainspring.

I think the Seiko is a better acomplished design, both case and movement. I realize the attraction divers have, but for the same reason you may better wait and be sure that's the kind of watch you want and will comfortable wear.

I'd go for the SARB.
>>
>>58274722
But

>30 000

How can you rationalize that, even if you have money to burn?
>>
>>58275038
The same way others here might justify a watch that's a kilobuck or two. Obviously it's a bad idea to spend several months worth of pay on one watch.

Kek. Nice one.

Very nice collection.(And a nice room as far as i can see)
Which A.Lange & Söhne is that in the middle?
>>
>>58275038
Ohh, my friend, my most expensive (not shown in pic, cause I took them bank to bank) are above that mark by far.

I don't rationalize spending +50k on a watch very much, or else I'd probably feel guilty as fuck and snuff myself away.

Last month I visited Africa and although I gave a 10k donation and also gifted almost all my clothes by the end of the journey, I uderstand there is so much need in this world and that it is not normal for a single person to have or spend that much money in something like a watch.

But I do have to enjoy my own life, and I love watches, so...

>>58275206

>>58276184
Hacking refers to the seconds hand stopping when you pull out the crown to set the time.
>>
>>58276184
means the seconds hand stop running when you pull out the crown to adjust the time
>>
>>58276138
I already gave you a picture when you asked before

>>58276142
The cut is still there, stitches don't make cuts go away. I assume if you're the type to get stitches for your boo-boos you have, at some point, pulled one out by accident.
>>
>>58276184

When you pull the crown (thing that adjusts time) the second hand will stop moving. So you can line up to the exact second.
>>
Quick /wt/, what are your watch goals for 2017? I'd like a pilot watch, probably tisell. I'd also like to save for a snowfrake or maybe some JDM GS when I head to japan this summer, but I'm afraid I won't be able to afford it since I'd like to get a bike by the end of next year.

Apple Watch is pretty much the only real option if you have an iPhone because everything else is so restricted by iOS. The thing charges to full in like half an hour so you could definitely charge it after you get up while you're getting ready or right before sleeping.

Pebble would be a good option too if you don't give a shit about support because the company went under.

You gotta make a list of all your vintage pieces at some point, you have a lot of neat ones.

The GP 36,000 is a great movement, as are the Omega 56x/75xs, and the Citizen Bullheads you have.

I'm going to have to see if I can get my hands on an Omega 56x/75x this year.

I got so lucky with my King Seiko Special that I'm pretty much done with vintage Seikos short of finding a good deal on a 45xx KS or a blue sunburst 5146.

Also lucky for my fat Canadian ass, the Omega 56x/75x watches had some 37mm and 38mm variants.

The left one is the normal dial and the right is the rare racing one.

It took me a bit to find a pic of the correct dial. As you can see, the minutes subdial has blue and white stripes and the inner ring has marked seconds, no tachymeter.
The main problem is that most of these dials are aftermaket (fake) so it's quite difficult to find an original one. For example, in pic related the chronograph's seconds hand is yellow, but it should be white or metal with an orange tip also, the day and date rings should be black and the date is japanese-english; this is clearly an aftermarket dial.
Btw, Citizen never realesed that dial with an octagonal case. If you find one, that's -again- an aftermarket (fake) dial.

What are the difference between field and pilot watches? They look exactly the same to my untrained eyes (with the exception of the flieger type B which is something very unique).

The citizen is a damn nice beater. Plus its eco-drive mouvement is quartz, which makes it more robust and more accurate.

Most of us don't like quartz. I'm not a big fan, but I appreciate the innovation, the fact that it can be charged by natural or artificial light.

Same goes for kinetic or spring drive, btw.

Not a great collection but it's what I have.
I'm debating on my next purchase. A fun shitter like a Vostok or that one-hand Luch, or wait to be able to buy something that's actually good.
>>
>>58285400
A NATO would be more comfy, but overall the stock strap is of pretty good quality. Stitching everywhere and rings to protect the holes.
>>
>>58285453
I like the Pontiff but for entertainment only, for him a shitter is everything under Omega/Rolex, which is stupid imo. There are great watches at much lower prices.
>>
>>58285473
It's a good start.

Just curious, why did you pick the Mako (or Ray, I'm not sure) I and not the II, which has hacking and handwinding?
>>
>>58285538
It's a Ray, the Mako has 12-6-9 numerals on the dial and a small bezel font.
I got it before the new version was announced, so that wasn't a choice. I could use the handwinding, but I don't mind the lack of hacking and I actually like the pusher.
>>
>>58285561
Yeah the pusher is pretty cool
>>
>>58285481
True but it's a bit stiff, I also found that due to the rings it means the holes are too far apart so I was between holes.

I also remember someone was looking for a week number watch but I don't know if he ended up with one
That was me.

There are a few snags though, like this one does not account for years with 53 weeks. There are actually some rather weird rules about when week 1 starts. It is NOT necessarily the week having the 1st of January. Instead it is the week with the first Thursday of the new year.

This has the unfortunate disadvantage that you cannot align week numbers easily with month numbers.

I am considering it as well as a Sinn 6052 Financial District watch that has a week dial but is unfortunately black.

The dial is actually gold, it doesn't really show in the picture.

I imagine it's worth the thick end of fuck all. It's a 37 year old mass produced, entry level automatic. It cost me less than £10 on a very worn gold plated bracelet.

You pretty much have the cool history folding knives, unless the spanish Navaja or french Laguiole interest you. If you want ethnic and useful, get a great handmade Kukrhi.
