Post your component list, rate other anons', ask questions in general.

Always state the purpose of your PC, your budget, AND YOUR COUNTRY if outside the USA.
If you are asking for improvements, clarify whether you want to lower price or to improve specs or build quality.

Zen or Kaby Lake for gaymen? For rendering/editing? Expected prices?
Will Vega blow away any nvidia cards at the same price point? Or will the 1080ti reign supreme and the battle of $400 GPUS begin?

Dude AMD hasn't been in top anything for a long long time, possibly never. The chances of this actually being worth a shit is pretty low.

Even if it is on par, you can get the intel equivalent right now. AMD is always playing catch up. I doubt anything will ever change , even this.
>>
>>58293649
I always thought they had the affordable multicore department on lock (Intels multicore options are relatively new and crazy overpriced), and going by *AMDs personal* benchmarks it looks like they'll still have the multicore area to themselves, seperated from Intel by price, not by performance
It's the single core performance people keep arguing over, I personally don't think it'll match the Intel core series (and the one single-threaded benchmark I've seen *with lower than promised zen clocks* agrees)
I have my Intel CPU and I know I won't need to upgrade for 10 years, but it's just nice to see where the market shifts happen
I do think the hype is just completely fucking uncalled for though, without any objective data yet

What are requirements for crossfire, when it comes to motherboard? Just the two PCI Express x16 slots?

Regarding gfx card, the king is GTX1070 (a 1440p card), but any RX4X0 or GTX10X0 is fine for mini-ITX. None consume much more than 150W

Who knows what AMD's board partners will do, but the specs for the AM4 chipsets have already been released.

>>58295338
I could understand if you bought an AM4 socket APU as a hold over until Zen, but really you have a retarded build. The CPU portion is about equivalent to an FX4350, so you're going to bottleneck the fuck out of that 390.

TL;DR you are fucking retarded and got memed. Pic related

I got a question?
I am currently using this pc (https://www.amazon.com/Gateway-DX4375G-UW20-Desktop-processor-Windows/dp/B00EUQTSZI) and I want to put a Rx 470 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814137050&cm_re=470-_-14-137-050-_-Product) in it.
Will it fit in the case, and if it can will it have temperature problems because the case lacks any intake or exhaust fans?
I have a 550W psu so power won't be an issue.

Keep current card for a bit or wait for vega and hope the 1070 or 1080 go down in price? I regret buying the 1060 3gb version.
>>
>>58295991
You need to fucking read the post above yours. Why are all these retards coming in here suggesting wasting money on a gfx card that will be hamstrung?

Regarding your temperature question, yes, the lack of case fans is a big problem. It's likely that the card would throttle.

Are you into self-memeing this hard?
>>
>>58296040
Why regret? It's fine for 1080p, like you've got.
There aren't even any great 4K cards out right now. You're really looking at the 1080Ti or possibly Vega.

Of course, you can get away with a lesser card, but if you're already forking over money for 4K, may as well spend the extra few hundred for a good card.

Study the attached graphic and the one in the previous post.

Basically you want a CPU that can properly feed the gfx card (i.e., does not bottleneck the gfx card). You really need to see whether you can upgrade your APU to a better four thread APU and then get a used r9 380, because that's about the most power the better APU will be able to handle

Hey /pcbg/,

I'm looking for a high FPS 1080p build. I've been working on this for a bit, but I wanted to know general opinions on it, or things to streamline a bit.

I keep jumping back and forth between the graphics card, the case (Which supposedly does fit the EVO and has front USB 3.0 ports despite what partpicker says), and whether to use 8 or 16gb ram.

Budget should keep it around this same area, $700-800 USD. Any suggestions or help to offer? Thanks in advance, guys.

so ive been confused about power cables from my psu.

some Gpus require 2 8 pin power connections

my corsair rm750x has a cable that ends with a 6pin with a 2pins split off of it. Then an addiction 6pin splits off the 6pin with its own 2pin. I made a picture.

Could a faulty USB cable cause catastrophic (read: fire) failure of a GPU or did my PSU fail? One of my GPUs started smoking on saturday and killed my mobo and it burst into flames when I did testing today on a brand new mobo which killed it as well.

There were no scorch marks on the pci-e supplementary power cables but the pci-e lane (before the notch where the 12V power comes from) of my new mobo's are scorched and the solder came out from the back of the mobo.

Could the PSU be fucked up or did a shorted usb cable just fry the GPU because it was seemingly fine before I plugged in the cable.

I don't think it was a heat issue as it was the liquid cooled card and top card of my SLI setup.

guess it depends what you find appealing.

when it came out youtube reviewers loved it for being very easy to build in. good fans, sound suppressing material lining the case, tons of space for additional fans&radiators, lots of space for cable management, tons of harddrive bays that are removeable.

im also new to building pc's, and wanted something that was easy to work in, expand within, and reuse for future builds.

It's the chipset (need Z170), not the CPU, that determines whether OC'd RAM can be used.

I say SATA. Much cheaper than the faster alternatives and noticeably just as fast 90% of the time.
If you have money to burn then get an M2, but not just any M2, Samsungs 950/951/960 M2 SSDs. They're a step above in terms of speed and very few M2 drives come remotely close (and don't forget many M2 drives are still SATA based instead of the faster PCIe based NVME). Here's an Intel 600p M2 drive compared to a regular 730 SATA SSD (a good one, but still normal SATA SSD speeds)
I just cannot see PCIe drives being any good for their price, comparably fast drives are coming out for fractions of the price of PCIe drives.

>>58299567
im a different person and im new to this, but essentially its like having the ability to control the flow of power to the cores of your CPU. The more chokes and mosfets* you the more sharing of the load goes on, meaning they run cooler not having to work as hard, which increase their lifespan and efficiency. while only giving your cpu the power that it needs, not less or to much, so you have more consistent overclocking. like a little power supply on your motherboard somewhat dedicated to the cpu cores.

So to clarify what you were saying, as long as I have the proper chipset (Z170) I can use the OC'd ram as long as the specific board supports it?

Then it would make sense to hop to an i5 6600K, like you said, due to having a pre-existing cooler (Still have a bit of a budget to follow) and upgrade to an i7, or similar unlockable card later.

Eyy that's 1200 American burgerbucks ($1600 including the 1070) for a 6700k/1070 build, not an amazing price but not a bad build considering the usual local prices and/or shipping. You could shave off some money by getting a cheaper motherboard or 3000mhz ram (if you can find a good deal on it), or by switching to an aircooled CPU heatsink (it'll last longer and you don't have a window anyways)
Don't forget a good monitor, it'll be expensive as fuck but that 1070 can do a lot more than 1080p and 60hz.
You can download Windows 10 home from Microsoft by looking up "create installation media Windows 10" to make a bootable USB. Then boot with it, install Windows and don't activate it. You'll have a small watermark in the bottom corner of the screen and can't change the taskbar color but other than that it's Windows 10 for free

same question as this >>58301033
Should i get 8GB with an i3? I just thought how can I run an extra 4GB of programs if I don't have the better cpu to run them?
>>
>>58301122
The i3 6100 will run multiple programs perfectly fine. It's a dual core with hyperthreading for 4 effective logical cores.

The thing with RAM is having more doesn't help until you run out, but when you run out it's a disaster. Right now I'm running Windows 10 with three Firefox windows open, one playing a Youtube video, and using 3.3GB of RAM. You can see it wouldn't take much more to exhaust 4GB.

The price of 8GB vs 4GB of DDR4 RAM is very small. Much better IMO to make sure you have enough to cover all eventualities.

Could you post the rest of your system, a budget and some more details about what you intend to use it for?
>>
>>58301122
Just because they're in the memory doesn't mean they're putting much of a strain on the CPU. And more RAM allows more caching, making the system overall snappier since you don't have to wait for everything to be loaded back into RAM.

Again, depends on what you do. I'm currently using 2 GB of RAM even though I only have browser and music player open - and this is using Linux, Windows obviously would be using more than that. I probably wouldn't go for less than 8 GB for a windows machine.

It's shit. Either get an i3 or upgrade to 6500: the 6400 has shitty single-threaded performance thanks to 3.2 GHz turbo, and its multi-threaded performance is just slightly better than an i3. As for the GPU, either get a 480 4GB(or even a 470) or the 6GB version of 1060.

Oh, and it's better to get 2x4GB of RAM instead of 1x8GB, because your CPU and chipset can use dual-channel.

>>
>>58302933
The other way around. AMD is all-around better at DX12 and Vulcan. And even in DX11, the advantage 1060 had has mostly vanished by now.
>>
>>58302874
Preferable mobo for that price range?
>>
>>58302933
In theory it's the exact opposite. In practice it depends on the application. AMD GPUs usually have more raw compute for DX12 to leverage than Nvidia's better optimized equivalent; but the DX12 dev needs the skill to utilize the extra raw horsepower.

So in case anyone was wondering, the DeepCool™ Gammaax™™ 400® performs pretty damn well. It's a bit of a bitch to install with the plastic stock heatsink style pins they use, but it performs admirably. Probably equal to better to a 212+, but cheaper.

Yeah that sounded like shilling but honestly I bought one and wanted to do a mini review. I got a temp spreadsheet for stock versus the Gammaax but I'm not at home. Would anyone be interested in me posting those temps?

If you want a good OC mobo look for Asus Z170 Pro Gaming / Z170-A and Gigabyte GA-Z170X-UD3.
Should be in the same range, maybe 20 bucks more expensive. cheaper options are Asus Z170-P/K and Gigabyte Z170-HD3/D/P whatever, there are three versions or so.
>>
>>58302985
FX series CPUs had the same problem as AMD GPUs in DX11 and bad DX12. Sure, they've got moar cores, and if you can leverage all the raw computer they're damn good chips. But nothing actually leverages all that compute, which makes Intel's more efficient chips faster in the real world.

Yes please, how about noise, is it noticeable and how does it compare to the stock jet engine?
What about thermal compound, is it pre-applied like on the Be Quiet! Pure Rock series?
>>
>>58303023
I don't think this is comparable at all.
For consumers you should go for the better Single Core performance regarding CPU obviously. There's no equivalent of Single Core performance regarding a GPU.
They took actual gaming Benchmarks for the rx and gtx comparison so they did real world comparison for consumers.
>>
>>58303043
Thermal compound comes in a little packet that lets you apply it how you like, and spread well. Fan was noisy until I realized I was a retard and had a wire running across it. Removed wire. Fan is quieter than stock, it's got a noticeable wooshing under load but it's not a high pitched whine. I would recommend an aftermarket fan for it except most of those cost as much as they Gammaax 400 does on sale.

I'll post the temps on pcbg (this thread of the next one) when I get home

When I fit this in the computer won't boot (despite the boot disk being something else) and I hear that dreadful clicking sound.
When I took the new Toshiba drive out, the system boots as it should.
What is the error here? Is the new disk dead on arrival? I hadn't even formatted it, this was the first boot with it installed.

I wanna upgrade my pc and thinking of going to Intel for it or sticking with amd. Right now I got
>AMD Athlon II X4 630

If I go with Intel my choices are

Or wait for AMD zen(or get a FX card) and get the MSI 970 mobo.
Broke ass college kid, is Intel really worth saving up and going for it. i am Computer science major.

>>
>>58300326
I can't figure out where that 2nd 280mm is in the loop, but the general recommendation is that your pump's intake should come straight after the rad, so the water can cool the motor as effectively as possible instead of heating it up. The temperature difference before and after the rad shouldn't be too high in general though, at least not in custom loops since you can have a lot of surface area for dissipation, it may not matter much.

I haven't done a very good job of representing the layout in 3D space, sorry. There's a tube bends from the pump outlet round into the bottom rad inlet but it's mostly obscured by the pump itself. Hopefully these arrows will help.

Current order is:
>Pump/res
>Bottom rad
>T splitter with ball valve attached for draining
>GPU block
>Top rad
>CPU block
>Back to pump/res

I'd read the same about the loop order, hoped it wouldn't be a huge factor since I have 2x280mm rads and am only cooling one GPU and the CPU. I could re-jig it so the flow goes from the CPU block to the bottom rad, then to the pump, but it makes the drain setup more of a bitch to work out. Having it straight up attached to the bottom rad outlet closest to the open side of the case is ideal.

How much of a meme are 144hz monitors?

I play overwatch quite a bit, and so the high refresh rate is tempting, but I also do photo editing and TN monitors seem very unappealing compared to IPS.

I had a 60Hz 1440p IPS, which was nice.

Then I got a 144Hz 1440p TN, and it's fucking amazing for FPS. It's difficult to describe. It feels like your mouse movements are more accurate somehow. I feel more accurate in CSGO and Overwatch than before.

I'm using the IPS panel as a second monitor for now until I can replace it with a pair of TN 1440p monitors, it's kind ugly having a mix of TN and IPS right now. Personally the colour difference doesn't bother me. They look different but I'm too much of a pleb to notice which one looks better and which looks worse. The viewing angles is also a non-issue for me because from my chair the viewing angle is pretty much perpendicular.

You do photo editing though so you'll value IPS colour much more than I do. 144Hz is no meme, though, it's great for FPS in particular.

>CAD, gaming
Probably want more than two physical cores. Nix i3 and Pentium

Do you want to overclock? If yes, pick a K series SKU like the 6600K or 6700K

Do you really need hyperthreading / virtualization / other "bonus features" the i7 has over the i5? If not, i5. If so, i7.

If not overclocking, pick the cheapest i5/i7. If overclocking, pick a K series chip.

You *will* need a graphics card for gaming unless you're playing super light games like CSGo or TF2 at 60fps or whatever. Not even Overwatch runs well on CPU graphics.

If you're picking up an i5, look for a $200-300 graphics card. If you're getting an i7, splurge on something nice like a 1070 or 1080.

Remember, graphics cards can accelerate CAD work too.

Is it worth getting a mechanical keyboard?
I won't be doing too much gaming, so is it worth putting the extra money in?
>>
>>58305612
It's not even a question. 470 is better hands-down if you have a PSU that can handle it. 1050ti is overpriced for what it is, and the only reason you'd get it is because it's the most powerful GPU that can be powered by the PCIe lanes alone.
>>
>>58305628
Get one with blue or clear switches. I've had one for a year now, and it's so much better for typing.
>>
>>58305612
This: >>58305671 , plus you get hitman with the 470 which is a nice bonus

The 6600k will most likely outlast any GPU you could buy anyway, unless your MOBO craps itself.

I've got pic related. I am thinking of replacing the GPU, as Radeon Housefire edition gets kind of hot. What should I aim for? I will probably switch to a 144hz monitor later this year.

Moreover - regarding the card. I have an almost 10 year old PSU - an Old Chieftec 620W unit. This one has no 8-pin pcie power, so my radeon is running on molex->8pin cable.

Recently, playing Dishonored 2, i started getting random crashes of the "now hard reset time" kind and I tracked them to the PSU. I think so because one 12V pin on the 8pin cable got burned and crumbled in my hands. Moreover, when running FurMark the voltage on the card (according to gpuz) drops to 10.5V from 12V.

Should I be worried and/or replace the PSU?

I usually run everything bone stock, but I might OC to 4-4.2 ghz when needed.
