Im about to build my first ever gaming pc for the price of 600$ in about a month. Because this is going to my first built I would like someone to rate my pc parts. Do I need anything more except Windows? Is there any better new parts for that price that I should use? Going to play Csgo and a few other single games like Dark Souls on it. Get a SSD, different RX480 preferred Asus, Sapphire or XFX and either i3-6100 or i5-6500, the 6400 is a bad CPU.
Your case doesn't have any case fans, so add 2x120mm for about 15 bucks to it.

Nah. Don't upgrade, wait for Zen, if it's shit, wait for Intel Coffee Lake in 2018 or whenever they release it, CPU market is stagnant.
If heat/noise is an issue then get better HSF and case fans. What's your current setup?

Waiting to build a HTPC and light gaming minirig for living room, basically a console but with far more options.

I want:
mITX mobo with USB-C
Some APU, I think I'll stick to 65W or less
m.2 SSD for software other content already on NAS

No cables apart from PSU, probably only 1 fan depending on case, hook up some gamepads and chill on couch.

Will have to wait for new APUs though, current ones have shitty TDPs so I guess 2H 2017 is possible.

Thanks, I figured I didn't need to. The issue is I have an aftermarket r9 290, which also runs disgustingly hot, so I don't know that swapping out more fans will make the difference, though I'd be up to try.

I'm currently using this HSF - http://www.phanteks.com/PH-TC12DX.html

I'd considered upgrading the 290 to a 1080/1070, though I have yet to look into much into it/which version is best/if I even need it.

HSF is not the best but shouldn't be the problem either, R9 290 is a thermal reactor, that's probably your problem.
Wait until after 1080ti release, other prices should drop. 1070 should be the most you'll need for 90% of the time.

While I have you here, how relevant is a 1440p display? I've been using the same 1080p monitor for the better part of 7 years, and I've never even seen a higher res one in person. Is it worth upgrading to?

I ask mostly because I was told the 290 was overkill for 1080p, but it didn't necessarily run every game at very high settings [sometimes not high, but I think that was optimization (looking at you, Arkham City]).

I imagine the 1070 is the same amount of overkill, and I'm certain the 1080 is, but I don't know. Thanks for answering plebby questions.

Idk, i'm on 3x1080p and i don't plan on upgrading.

For 1080p the 1080 is absolute overkill. The 1070 is overkill, too, but it has good price/performance so it's a reasonable investment for the next few years.
If you don't mind upgrading your GPU in the next few years or when you upgrade to 1440p144Hz you can stick with a 1060 or RX480 for now.
Personally i'd get the 1070 is you have the money.

Bad value for money and bad gaming performance.

The 6400 is only viable if you want an Intel quad core for cheap money.

I have multi monitors and never close any program unless I really need it to and all monitors are all full with programs open

Looking to build a PC over a couple months, my current one is 11 years old now and the only things I haven't replaced in it are the motherboard/processor, RAM is old DDR2 so no longer usable. I'm hoping to salvage the graphics card, power supply, HDD's and DVD drive. I only use this PC to watch videos in my living room and over the past 1-2 years its been struggling to stream 1080P videos.
Power supply-600W
GPU-Radeon 6450
HDD's- 1 TB and 320 GB
Case will not be re-usable since its a left side mount (when looking at front).
>>
The HDD nest in my tower is pretty compact, there's not a lot of room for airflow and as a result the HDDS often climb up to 70C. Is there anything I can do other than buying adjustment brackets to put them in the expansion slots?

hey guys, i have an i5 4570t, and recently i've noticed that is way slower than a year ago... should I go for the sixth gen or buy a cooler and overclock it?
i use my pc for gaming, editing video and photography, programming, daily tasks such as browsing in the web, listening music, etc.
>>
Thinking of purchasing a new build for gaming, I suppose it's going to be a bit budgeted (around £1000-£1100) but compared to my existing it's going to be a fair upgrade.

I'm not too clued up on all the latest motherboards and what CPU's should be used with them etc. but I think one thing I've at least learned is that you should only really use the Z1Z0 motherboards with a 'K' processor if you plan to overclock as these two components are the only ones that will allow a CPU overclock? (Judging by product comparison between Z1Z0, H170 and H110 motherboards and googling the meaning of 'K' processors).

Is someone able to confirm this to a newbie please? I suppose it comes down to cost, whether or not you get the value for your money from the additional base clock speeds?

So if I was looking to play mainly at 1080p 60fps, I'm thinking of getting a 1060 paired with a i5 6600k with the idea of maybe overclocking in the future, but if I wasn't going to overclock at all, it might be worth going for the i5 6500 instead?

I also see some people referring to the i3 6100 instead of the i5 6500 due to it's base clock speed being higher over the i5 6500. I'm assuming for gaming purposes this would be because most video games don't use all 4 cores and the i3 is considerably cheaper?

Thanks in advance for helping a newbie!
>>
>>58278352
Switch the NEX for a 500B or G2 550 and get a H110 or B150 mobo.
>>
>>58278110
You need alot more info then that broseph. Can download speccy and give us the screenshot of whats in your computer if it can even take any upgrades.

Also if you got money to buy a 1070, chances are you can skimp down to a 1060 or 480 and build a whole new computer instead.
>>
>>58277998
That's the conclusion I came to.
>>
>>58278446
If you buy second hand i'd say GTX780.

>>58278479
>if i favour multitasking more than single tasks, would it still be better to get intel instead of amd?
Only if you get something like a 6700K or 6800K, otherwise stick with your 8350. You are also a perfect candidate for a Zen upgrade, so i recommend you to wait.

>I play overwatch
If it's for gaming why do you care about more cores/threads than core speed? A 6500 will probably run circles around your 8350 for most games.

>do I really have to if I want to switch to intel?
There are DDR3 compatible mobos, on standard DDR4 mobos you can't, those only take DDR4 and DDR3L, standard DDR3 will blow the memory controller.
>>
>>58278495
You realize a PC to only watch 1080p can be built for like 400 bucks or so? You build is just retarded.

>>58278774
Want OC? Get Z170 + K CPU + 3000 RAM.
Don't want OC? Get standard i3 or i5 and H110 or B150 mobo, get H170 only if you need SLI/XCF.
For 1080p60fps a GTX1060 or RX480 is more than enough. If you plan to OC, get Z170 + 6600K, otherwise 6500 + see above is fine as well.
Don't get the i3-6100 if you can afford the i5-6500, many games already utilize quad core CPUs.
>>
>>58278988

Thanks mate appreciate the clarification.

You've basically summarised what I was hoping to conclude, either get a 1060 and a Z1Z70 + 6600K for potential overclocking or an RX480 and a H110 + 6500 if no overclocking, which is going to be much better for the budget if I'm just looking at 1080p gaming.

Thanks also for the additional info such as staying away from H170 unless SLI plus the i3 if the i5 is affordable, very helpful stuff!

You're just shitposting, I went to logicalincrements to find out my build is pretty much a "modest" build, according to their guide, it should be able to run modern games at high settings on 30fps.

I'm pretty sure the build can handle Overwatch on 60fps without trouble, even if I have to turn settings to medium or low, all I want is constant framerate!

Here's a revised version of the same build:
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/wCDdM

I am still not decided between Athlon 4x 845 and 860k

I am inclining on the 845 because of the lower voltage, better cooling and because according to game-debate, it performs about 10% better than 860k even though it has slightly slower clockspeed

>>
>>58278774
ok, listen to this.
It will be maybe a little unortodox for "know-alls" here but truth is "futureproofing" is an flawed concept
as things are in last ~6-7 years.
I had an great run with i5 2500k(would still suggest it), but things are diff now.
First choose fps and resolution you would like to play your games, then inform yourself about your "mustplay" games(cpu/gpu demands). That will give you clear pic if you need i3,i5,i7 /rx470,rx480,gtx1060,gtx1070(4 or 8 gb ddr5)etc,take into acc that nvidia gpu does not depend on cpu as amd gpu, that amd cpu/gpu has higher tdp and are warmer(but also take into acc that intvidia charge dearly for that (cooler and lower tdp while "faster")privilege).
Take into acc that 4 solid(with nice clocks) cores are better than 8ht(to the point, its better to turn off ht in some cases).
Also take into acc that all this could(or not) change overnight when ryzen/ps4pro/xboscorp became relevant(devs will always take priority with consoles).
So.where does that leave you, buy 80+ psu(better one, it could last you couple of builds), mobo check upgrade path( you can easily buy i3 6100 and replace it with 6600k if need arises), buy decent air cooler(people praise evo212 but i found some much cheaper coolers to do better job). Main thing is
>never be an early adopter nor buy pc on crossroads of gens(real generations, totally different arhitectures, not some small upgrade)
>never buy flagship anything, never fall in love in your hw(sell cpu/gpu, buy another, buy used, dont cry if you lose 20% value, maybe next big thing will drop value of your xpnsive hw up to 90%,ask titan owners ;))

So, I just out my PC together after upgrading the mobo, CPU, and graphics card. However, I'm noticing that now it boots up, but there's no beep and I'm not getting a display. What could I be doing wrong?
Specs:
>ASRock Z170 Extreme4
>Zotac GTX 1060 6GB Mini
>2x4GB DDR4 RAM
>Intel i5 6600k with NH-L9i cooler
Part of me is suspecting that it's just my graphics card not having a PCIe cord plugged into it (since my last card didn't use one) but I just thought I'd ask just in case.
>>
Okay, so I keep getting the BSOD with a "memory_management" error. What the fuck does that mean and how can I fix it? I built this PC this week, so everything can be returned:

(New parts)
>GA Z170 HD3
>i5 6600K
>GTX 1060 6GB
>Corsair Vengence LPX ( 2x 8gb ) @ 3000mhz

(Already had these)
>Samsung 840 EVO 256GB
>Corsair tx650W PSU
>CoolerMaster case

My rams are running at 2133mhz by default even though it's 3000mhz OC'able. Should I OC it to fix the issue? Not sure how to remedy the problem.

Kaby Lake will be 1151, and supposedly so will whatever comes after it (because Intel botched their higher end 10nm process and it will only be used in the mobile market, so Skylake is getting two refreshes instead of one)

you'll need longer cables if you do that
try getting some cooling mattes that get plugged into a liquid cooling system, some direct current cooling heatsinks(good for 5-8 degrees by themselves), or just get a cheap 80 dollar walmart fridge, a cheap n small dehumidifier with tubing attached.
Put the entire computer into the fridge, have hole for power and connection cables to your computer and the dehumidifier. Another smaller hole for the dehumidifiers water outlet.
Now the entire thing can be cooled to freezing temps without moisture problems.
Only con is the massive electrical costs.

With only one video card the PSU fan doesn't even spin, but even with 2 300W video cards and overclocking the CPU the total power draw should stay under 1kW. What I like about the ax1500i is its efficiency.

It's had moments in the past where it's just frozen, made a terrible sound and the only way I managed to make it work if that every time I did that I needed to re-seat the RAM.
Currently the following has happened:
> Run the machine as a NAS
> OS is frozen
> Does hard reboot
> Doesn't power back on
> Unplug the power and plug it back in
> It turned on for a second and then failed
> Unplugged it again and put it back in
> Now it won't start at all
I've pulled it apart and the power supply seems to be okay.
However when I plug in the huge white plug into the mother board and try starting it just with that the fan spins for 2 seconds and stops.
There isn't any beep code and I'm 99% sure it's the motherboard but I might get a new power supply while I'm at it.
> Does this sound to be the problem or does anyone have any other ideas?

Reseat the following:
The RAM. If you didn't hear it click in properly, you fucked up.
The GPU. If you didn't hear it click in properly, you fucked up.
Make sure the standoffs, those little bronze things, are installed in the case to support the mobo from not touching the case itself.

Welp here's my exact current setup
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/tcmZWX
Definitely changed over the years and mostly bought separately. Second 980ti bought secondhand once pascal dropped, which required me to switch my ax760 psu to the one listed (also bought second hand)
Case used to be 600t up until a black Friday deal I got on this one
Both monitors got on sale for 399 cad
Second one actually still shipping
All drives purchased on sale except the hdd
950 second hand for a fantastic price
Noctua fans gift from gf this Christmas so just installed
Keyboard for 70 cad from a friend
Etc
Any questions or judgements?
Oh yes also I'm preparing to sell off the gpus to buy a single Vega card. For reduced power heat noise and to take advantage of freesync

One other thing
My m.2 slot only supports pcie x2 lanes instead of x4 which is needed for full speeds
Unfortunately I found this out after I bought it so I'm running it at gimped speeds
I have a pcie to m.2 adapted ready but waiting until I'm back to a single gpu setup because my pcie lanes are currently occupied

Its convinced google to use their new architecture in the cloud computing. The IPC per $ is supposed to be great, Google wouldnt buy in without concrete proof.

I mean come on, Intel has pretty much been stagnant because they have no competition. AMD has put serious money and time in their R&D.

With the walls we are hitting, its not at all surprising or unreasonable to think that AMD can catch up.

>>
>>58285275
If you want to play new games at high settings in 4K and 60FPS you'll need GTX 1080 SLI at least right now. Not even a Titan XP is enough in terms of single-GPU. A single 1080 Ti won't be enough either more than likely, nor will 1 Vega card since going by the leaks it seems to compete around the 1080 level. If you want proper performance at 4K nowadays you're going for multi-GPU.

Clock speed is obviously one of the major factors that contributes to performance, although not the only one. /g/ has taken this to the retarded extreme of almost disregarding clock frequency, even when comparing CPUs which are very similar in terms of IPC.

People disregarding frequency are at about the same level as the "it's amps that kill, not volts" retards who do not understand how voltage is important in regards to the current reaching a lethal level.

Old toaster I pulled out of storage, want to set it up for a visitor pc for when the kids are over.

only needs BF1 1080p 45 fps stable/medium. I have a freesync monitor for it on the way.

I posted earlier that my buddy had an i5-3470 for $50, well he said he'd throw in a 4g 290 blower :( for another $100 and I talked him down to $120 and a fan controller. His parts are from a htpc he updated, haven't been overclocked and look clean.

flash the z68 to uefi bios to unlock ivy bridge turbo. Lock it at x40 for 4.0/3.8 and possibly bclk to 105mhz at x38 for 4.0 on all cores if this board doesnt support MCE like the z68 sniper.

could I find a used cooler on ebay and replace the blower setup? its a sapphire if it matters.

Open to suggestions or if anyone can piece together a better performer than the link.

Worried about 440w draw on an old 500w psu. I could undervolt the gpu as much as possible or should I just get a RX460 4g?

Just Cause 3, GTAV, high FPS on older games like ETS2, that's kinda what I'm aiming for. I also want to go dual screen but I get different signals from different people. This post doesn't help your autism, m8. A doctor might, i suggest professional help.

Here's some math for you:
>Fractal Design Define R5 w/Window, 8x3.5" bay, fan controller, incl. 2x140mm silent fan -- $82.99
>additional fans: Fractal Design GP14-WT 68.4 CFM 140mm Fan <20dbA -- $10.99 each x 4 = $43.96
>RGB LED strips are pure autism, but for the sake of just including it...
>NZXT HUE RGB controller -- about $40
>cheap RGB LED strip -- about $6 each, make that 4 -- $24
>Total --- $190.95

Meaning you can get a custom setup for just 190 bucks. If you leave out the autistic LEDs you're done with $126.95.

>Hitachi HDD
Why's that? I've always bought either Seagate or WD, whichever is cheaper.

>>58288443
Fuck yeah, I'll get some white and purple LED strips.
>>
>>58288587
What's your budget and purpose anyways? Unlimited and 1440p144fps gaymen?
If so, you're wasting a shit ton of money, but if that's your choice... Anyways, there are several improvements you can do.
Put together a PCP list and we see what we can do, you can add custom parts and edit prices if needed.

The 280x is a much better value, since it performs just as well as a 780 in most games
>>
Is it a good moment to buy a new rig or should i wait the vega/zen annoucement to see if the prices will drop ?
>>

Hitachi is generally considered to be more reliable than WD and Seagate.

You want my eyes to bleed, do you?

>>58288793
If you can wait, then wait. 1080ti will release soon, Zen will release in Q1, Vega is on the way and prices are still high from all the christmas (((sales))).
>>
>>58288853
>and prices are still high from all the christmas (((sales))).
thanks for the insights, i thought it was during that time that the prices were the lowest.
well this zen/vega stuff prevented me from doing a big mistake.

Purpose: 1440p 144Hz gaymen, as you guessed. I have two flanking 60Hz 1440p screens too but do most of my gaymen on a single screen.

Budget: high enough that aesthetics can be a factor but not high enough to just go lolTitanXSLI. My target was to keep it under £3k.

Here's a PCP

>You want my eyes to bleed, do you?
what is wrong with microcenter? I can get the unlocked cpu for 60$ less than the next place and a mobo bundle.

>212 evo
what's wrong with that?

>>58288853
>paying for Microshill products
personal preference because my last AMD cpu's died and none of my intel ones have.

They seem to be the lowest because the sellers systematically raise the prices in small steps to be able to provide those special sales. Do note that some good special offers exist.
Overall it's just a jewish trickery and people fall for it. Where i live prices are lowest around mid year. Considering that's when and after 1080ti, Kaby Lake, Zen and maybe Vega release, prices should drop significantly.

If you get a K (unlocked) CPU, get a Z170 motherboard. The point of the K is you can overclock it. You cannot overclock on a H170 motherboard, it has to be a Z170.

You are paying for features you cannot use. Also read the OP pastebins.
>>
>>58289039
Should be the same in France then.
Guess i wont play the new RE at launch.
>>
>>58289077
alright, I'll just drop down to the 6700. I don't intend to overclock.
>>
>>58289138
That's a reasonable choice. Bear in mind the 6700 is locked at 3.4 GHz / 4.0GHz boost compared to the 6700K at 4.0GHz / 4.2GHz boost.

It would also be a reasonable choice to keep the 6700K, switch the mobo to a Z170, google how to overclock and apply a gentle overclock. There's only about a $30 difference and you should be able to hit 4.4 - 4.5GHz with very little difficulty.
>>
>>58289228
I just looked at the prices and it would be like 10$ more to drop down to the 6700 so I'll probably just upgrade to the
ASUS Z170-E and breakeven.

I've overclocked my old AMD stuff and it died on me after a small overclock and the next died with no overclock. so I've decided not to overclock anymore and just run stock.

also why is the evo 212 bad? I mean I've looked into a nocturn but I can't justify the price (other than it being more quiet)
>>
Do graphics card have any mobo restrictions or will it work in any PCIE slot?
>>
>>58289286
Fair enough.

I'm tempted to >AMD but I know how it feels to be bitten and worry about it happening again. At least with the 6700K / Z170 you have the option to OC later on in the system's life if you change your mind.

Not sure what anon meant about the Evo 212. It's small, cheap, it works and it's very popular. Perfect considering you're not OCing.
>>
>>58289345
I mean if Vulkan/DX12 would make it better for AMD CPU's I would consider them once again, but yeah fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me.

take care mein anon

You can always cut the PCI pins of the GPU off to fit the free PCI slot.
>>

Thanks anon. I'll look up each of your suggestions. Nice find on the white RAM, I didn't know it came in white.

>Ultrastar 7K6000 2TB is £150
Ouch. I back up all my important stuff to the interbutt and my HDD is mostly for movies, which I have backed up to an external HDD already. I don't think the extra reliability is worth double the price for my purposes.
>>
>>58289806
If you don't mind sacrificing reliability you can get the cheapest consumer drive out there.
HGST/Hitachi has been proven to be the most reliable HDD brand by far. Personally i have a 6.5 years old Hitachi and it still works without problems.
>>
>>58289876
Just replying to say another thanks for the case suggestion. It looks ideal and it's beautiful compared to the 750D.
>>
>>58274861
how much do you think an 8 core Zen / Rx490X build would cost?
of course I can price out the existing parts but the MoBo/GPU/CPU.
should I go NVME and SSD only now? I have about 6TB of HDDs and can cobble together a NAS for true bulk I guess
>>
>>58290632
1200$
>>
About to embark on my first build. Is sound dampening material a meme or is it worth the extra $10?
>>
>>58291193
It's worth and there are cases already built to be silent. Good brands for silent cases are Fractal Design, Be Quiet! and Nanoxia.
