>>58270809
I finally downloaded it, unfortunately I'm still stuck with the same infinite loading screen even with the CD inside

When I press the power button and then turn it on again I get the black screen with cursor
When I hold it I and then turn it on again it's the windows logo with the loading thingy and then after a while just the loading thingy
Am I fucked?

>>58273602
External drives are generally rated at much lower load/unload cycle counts than their internal counterparts, meaning especailly in a laptop where load/unload is done frequently because of powersaving, the disk can die awfully quick.

>>
>>58273613

It's not your bios, it's your boot files. Strictly speaking you don't need to do anything, this just means that both your HDD and SDD have to stay in your computer in order for windows to work. It's not hard to move the boot files over, it's just a little hard to explain the steps

>>
>>58273708
Ok, that's not what those do. It's not a recovery, it's your boot files. It's like a tiny folder that tells your computer where windows is located. If it gets deleted, windows can't start. Since it's not on the same drive as windows, it means you're now reliant on both drives to keep working

Theoretically, if I were to bring the laptop to repair shop, how could they go about fixing it? Considering it doesn't render anything but mouse cursors
>>
>>58273931
They're not. They're MUCH cheaper than they used to be. They do cost more per GB than HDDs, but they're much faster
>>
>>58273931
Old ones are still expensive.
New ones not so much.
They are still a luxury item and not something fundamental.

Cheap good quality ones are getting way cheaper.
See ADATA SU800.

Samsung will never release a new SSD because people keep buying 850 EVO nonstop at high prices.
Others companies must release something as good and cheaper.
>>
>>58273946
If you booted up your recovery menu and that looked wonky too, your card just might be boned. If you can get bios up and switch to integrated that might help. A repair shop might try connecting a usb graphics adapter. It might be about time to call the manufacturer's help line

Hello.

My idiot roommate decided to reposition everything once again including my PC.

The moron took my internet cable, and connected my PC trough some secondhand pic-related wifi repeater he bought from who knows.

He played it off as all being fine and showed me by launching my computer, starting up internet / online game and of course it lagged like fucking crazy.

My question however, can these wifi repeaters damage or hurt one's computer / data?

I saw on the back of the adapter (pic related) some log in information, so I guess that way everyone can just keep track of my pc or even acess it? What about passwords I filled in?

Hopefully I'll get an answer. Thanksin advance.

Where can hardware backdoors be placed in a computer system? Phone, PC, servers, whatever.

Is it primarily only in a processor chip of some kind?

I can think of other places undocumented firmware could be placed in a machine, but if it's not on a chip of some sort it doesn't seem it would be very capable/difficult to mitigate.

If your UEFI and harddrive support all the right standards (TCG OPAL SATA, specifically), it's possible to use ATA Security + hardware crypto in the drives firmware to lock down a disk so it can only be accessed with the right password.
>>
>>58275837
Note that unless you only ever shut down your computer (never use sleep or hibernation), there are ways to bypass even this: https://www.blackhat.com/docs/eu-15/materials/eu-15-Boteanu-Bypassing-Self-Encrypting-Drives-SED-In-Enterprise-Environments.pdf
>>
>>58275858
However, if you set both master and user password and every piece of hardware supports the standards, and you never suspend/hibernate the computer (in which case I'd recommend getting an NVMe SSD as they speed up boot/shutdown to a matter of ~15 seconds), you have encryption that probably only NSA can break.

If you mean physical backdoors, they can be added to a mobo pretty easily. In terms of firmware anything with USB access can be malignant, you could easily take over a PC with disk drive firmware. The worst threat is bios/uefi malware, which is supprisingly easy to infect and potentially impossible to remove. That could straight up circumvent any protections that you have. Intel chips also have phone home capablilites that don't need a system OS to work, and anything like that has the potential to be hijacked

Fine, I'll answer your idiotic question, just to shut you the fuck up by needlessly bumping the thread. WIfi is on ISM bands that's got noise floors in cities of something on the order of -60dB, meaning it's essentially impossible to not get packetloss on any kind of traffic. Effectively, this means even the best wifi equipment will be completely inefficent at pushing any kind of traffic through that congested a medium. It's like trying to swim through the image attached to this post.

Since you're so desperate

That is pretty much a Wi-Fi router.
If you used one in the past, then by now you have answered yourself.
It works as a wired repeater bridge, but instead of being used to extend a wireless signal, it transform your ethernet signal in a wifi network.

The login on the back is used when you need to give mainteance to the router itself, and it's asked when you connect to it's IP (Something in the 192.168.x.x range)
It is not related to your computer.

Tier1 providers losing connection to other tier1 providers. They're the backbone of the internet and don't pay for transit or peering between each other, but they have limits to how much traffic they're willing to accept, and an IoT botnet could in theory exceed this. Why they'd want to, is entirely another question that I'm not qualified to answer.
>>
>>58276337
>>58276366

That is definitely where the real shit is gonna go down. But that's a different problem. Backdooring internet-of-things devices is basically irrelevant at this point because there are so many of them and so little security exists in the first place. And we're barely getting started. Pretty soon that shit's gonna be strapped on to every loaf of bread we buy
>>
>>58276473
Let me get this straight, since i didn't understand a thing:

Internet will begin to break up because the amount of data of some devices may exceed their self imposed maximum.

I'm sure ISPs will just create premium plans for 8Tbps+ connections which will, in return, allow them to pay such higher equipment.

I bought a gaymen monitor and it only reaches 60 Hz instead of 144. I thought it was the HDMI, but I'm using the same cable that came in the box.
>>
>>58276557
The internet won't begin to break up - it's self-healing, and once the attack stops it'll go back to working like it did before. They're called Distributed Denial of Service attacks, and are only temporary. Worst-case, the providers agree to nullroute traffic coming from the worst offenders, until a more permanent solution can be found.

8Tbps is 1TBps - that's what's the lower limit of what the IoT botnet estimates are already giving as figures. It may be much higher.
>>
>>58276557
I don't know if what he's saying is true or not, but what he's talking about is something more along the lines of a DDOS so huge it can take an ISP offline.
>>
>>58276599
Sometimes you need to actually tell the monitor it should be using more than 60Hz. This can be done in the monitor control panel, or likely some place in the AMD driver panel, whatever it's called.
>>
>>58276613
>Once the attack stops
Which could take months. We may not even have a way of stopping it.
>>
As an example, look at Telia as one of the tier1s - they currently carry on the order of 1Tbps traffic both in and out - that's only 1/8 the amount of unidirectional traffic we're talking here.

>>58276724
There's still ways for Tier1s to get in contact with each other outside of the internet, and they can agree to nullroute traffic coming from particularily bad offenders. There are ways around it, but not ones that don't disrupt broader internet connectivity for a long time, no.

I found that option in the advanced settings, but it only reaches up to 60 Hz.

>>58276897
There are two different drivers for the monitor. The first one is the one I'm using with the HDMI. The other one is supposedly the one that reaches 144 Hz, but it doesn't work with the RX470 drivers and disconnects the monitor as soon as Windows boots.

Don't I need to use the Display Port to get 144 Hz? I would've tried it already but the graphics card or the monitor doesn't seem to recognize the cable.

Apparently my java files are corrupted. All path variables are set properly and when I try to manually execute the jar file in the command line I get "the system cannot find the file c /programdata/oracle/java/javapath/java.exe"

And I'm still getting the >>58279103 error. I hate windows so goddamn much
>>
>>58279247
You will need to set the default application to be your system install of javaw
>>
>>58279260
I just said fuck it and uninstalled Java, deleted all the corresponding path variables, and all IDEs I was using.

The same error and magic ghost path variable keeps showing up when I open a jar.

I miss windows 7

How much maintenance does water cooling take? I know it would be much more than air cooling, but assuming I get the parts and don't change anything in them, how much effort is it to keep it going aside from changing the water every 5 to 6 months? This is for CPU and GPU cooling.

If they left WPS on, use Reaver to brute force it https://www.pwnieexpress.com/blog/wps-cracking-with-reaver

If WPS is disabled, you have to go to a dictionary attack http://null-byte.wonderhowto.com/how-to/hack-wi-fi-cracking-wpa2-psk-passwords-using-aircrack-ng-0148366/, which may take quite a while, and if your neighbour has set a good password, could take forever

>wpa2
buy a stronger wifi adapter and look for something that isn't that
otherwise mitd the handshake and bruteforce the password

I just upgraded from a GigaByte GeForce gtx 760, to a EVGA Geforce gtx 1070 and I unistalled and reinstalled all of the right drivers but the 1070 still performs very bad. I tried a bunch of troubleshoots to see if that would solve it, but it didn't. Can anyone think of what's going wrong?
