Hi, /g/!

I'm a sysadmin/software developer by profession. Although I have a basic understanding of digital electronics and logic, I would love to learn electronics all over again from scratch and be good at it.

What's the best way to go about learning electronics? I don't want to just build "geeky" and "cool" projects; I want to learn it properly.

Thanks.

I guess I just have to induce autism in me and tape this book to my forehead.

It's a fantastic book and however recommends know their subject. However, that book isn't for beginners. It's for reference or for advanced users who want to gain more insight. Don't believe me: check the bad reviews.

I'd recommend practical electronics for inventors. Or if you just want something easy, but really solid, check Thomas Floyd series (he just asks for algebra and ultra basic calculus).

Neat, something free.

I went through a few pages and it looked like complete gibberish to me. I know, I am stupid.

It's has nothing to do with your capability. I told you, it's because that thing takes a lot of things for granted.

don't even bother with this if you are a beginner

Honestly, audit intro EE classes at a local community college

>cover of book is EMF
unless OP's gonna be stringing up transmission lines not too sure how useful thats gonna be for beginners.

Don't buy this >>58194024 it will just be wasting your time and you'll feel like you aren't learning shit. Most hobbyist websites about electronics have free material to help you learn. I would recommend learning about basic components like capacitors, resistors, diodes, and inductors first. Then move on to stuff like transistors and integrated circuits.

People will shit on Arduino all day, but things like that really help you learn how electronics work. At least that's how I learned. A little hint as well, when you get into electronic components and ICs, the documentation for all of those components are basically your bible. They have all the information to make them work from pin layout, commands, and even typical wiring diagrams.

University.
Books.
Practice.

And most importantly of all projects.
Making projects is the best thing you can do.
Test circuits, grab shit thats broken and figure out if it's the PSU or some part of the circuit thats broken and fix/bypass it to get it to work.

Shit like that.

ham radio is good for analogue stuff - lots of textbooks and info around as electronics knowledge is part of the licence and there's still a lot of people building their own stuff
