Hey. I've never owned a smartphone. Not sure what I should look out for, but without a doubt I'm leaning towards a droid that I can root, install a ROM, maybe even rice to make it speshul. What phone should I get? would it be wise to get an older phone like a Galaxy Note and install Replicant on it? Or should I get a newer phone like Nexus 5x or 6p?

I have to be a special snowflake and get a blackberry priv or a passport
question is, which one? I wont be using it for anything but browsing the net, google maps and music (I don't have any friends so I don't use social media or anything) but the priv looks cool as fuck to me. But then again so does the passport and it's a hundred quid less...

I didn't want to make a new thread and didn't know where else to put this. I have a nexus 5x and a thinkpad t420. I need some way to be able to take pictures and have them almost instantly loaded onto a folder on my computer, and not saved on my phone. What would be the best way to do this? I'm making a very low budget stop motion film for shits and giggles and using my phone as a remote camera essentially.

Got a Vodafone Smart Ultra 7. Wanted to root it and get Cyanogenmod, but they seem to have shit the bed (plus, support for that particular model is pretty wonky). So what exactly can I do? The out-of-box ROM has lots of Vodafone shit on it you can't uninstall.

I heard rumors about Redmi Note 4 whatever model with SD625 and 4gb of RAM coming out in middle of January. If it's true I'll go for it in a blink of an eye. Otherwise I'll be left with only mtk version. Any alternative? Redmi 4 Prime with sd625 is good and cheap but 5" might be just to small for me.

Has someone in here with a Zenfone 2, has updated it manually to Android 6?

It seems that the release for the ZE551ML models is under beta testings, but the thing is that is been like that for over a 1 year now, and Asus doesn't seem to be releasing the official update anytime soon.

I believe that Android 7 will be released first if I keep waiting, but it seems that the people who has done the update manually are having mixed results (some with minor problems, others with bricked phones and others with no problems at all)

i'm a college kid whose parents are just now getting a divorce. that being said, money is tight. my phone (nexus 6) fell out of my pocket and now the screen doesn't work. i'm currently using a note 2 that i had prior to it.
so basically my options are to fix the screen on the nexus 6 and use it for another year or two, or use the note 2 (running 4.4.1, mind you) for a couple of months and save up and buy a cheaper s7 or pixel or something like that

I replaced the screen of a chinkphone without a guide. If i can do it you can do it. Search for the screen on aliexpress for the cheapest option. Or somewhere else where you they include adhesive stickers. Alternative would be 1mm double sided tape and superglue. If you dont have screwdrivers they cost less than 5$.

It bootlooped 5 times on the stock rom, but having paid 100 dollars for the 32 GB version of it (thanks for not jewing me random spic street vendor) i couldnt really complain.

So far it hasnt happened on CM13 but i dont use it as much as before since i got a new one, i havent upgraded to nougat because i have a lot of xposed modules and backing up everything seems like a hassle (mostly replaceable anime images, some manga scans downloaded, games and animu)

I got the Moto G4 Play during black friday, and overall I'm satisfied with the performance, since my previous phone was a Droid 4. (still miss the keyboard tho)
I cannot figure out how to turn on voLTE.
Went to a corporate verizon store, and they told me that since it was a prepaid phone it doesn't have that ability.
A few google searches suggest that it is capable of voLTE, but it seems like the stock rom doesn't have a switch to turn it on.

Got a LG v20, actually using the second screen even though I thought I'd never. I mainly got this phone for the removable battery and SD card slot, but holy shit this is not anything like the LG g3 I had before my note 5. This phone is all aluminum and feels sturdy, I love how much features you get from the LG stock ROM, the bootloader is unlockable but I havent had a need to flash anything else. The wide angle camera is really what sold me on this phone. Check it out, I recommend it if you want removable battery and SD card with today's hardware.

Hey /g/, first time poster here. I have a xperia m4 aqua with a locked bootloader(in the service menu it says "bootloader unlock allowed :no". I didn't have any isssues on my old phone (xperia zr running cm14.1), but this phone is really getting on my nerves how shitty it is stock. Any ideas how to unlock it ?
