NO NO NO

NO FUCKING WAY, WHAT WILL I DO NOW?

I BOUGHT MY PHONES BASED ON WHETHER THEY HAD OFFICIAL CYANOGENMOD SUPPORT OR NOT, NOW I WILL HAVE TO EITHER FULLY TAKE THE CORPORATE COCK IN THE ASS AND DEAL WITH A SHITTY, UNOPTIMIZED, LAGGY UI OR RISK USING A SHITTY PAJEET ROM WHERE NOTHING BUT THE HOMESCREEN AND SETTINGS WORK FOR THE FIRST 20 RELEASES/UPDATES

I guess from now on its only HTC and Motorola phones for me, and thats if HTC doesnt die halfway through and the Motorola name dissapears and gets fully absorbed by lelnovo.

The point is:

Keeping up with The Jones.
>>
>>58158465
Well zuk z2 has a snapdragon 820 paired with a 1080p screen so it gets better performance and battery life than most flagships.

The xiaomi has a slightly bigger screen and battery but weaker and more efficient SoC so it's a matter of what you prefer.
If camera matters though, avoid xiaomi, but if battery life is a priority it might be the better choice.

So back in the day, I went full autism with my online persona and made a stack of different identities. It wouldn't be a problem now but I'm still actually using a good chunk of them because I can quit the communities, and thankfully I managed to keep them out of my personal and professional lives so that nobody could link the stupid shit I did/do/said back then back to me (yet).

But managing the identities from a desktop sort of sucks. I've tried consolidating all the traffic and correspondence onto one account several times (e.g. redirect them to one Gmail account, make one mail client manage the couple dozen e-mail accounts, etc.) but that shit never worked for me because some accounts get more traffic than others and I always forget to check/respond to others so they get lost in the cracks, keep catching myself accidentally sending mail from the wrong account, etc. What HAS worked is just having a set of phones, one for each. I have one shitty ZTE speed I bought last year on a whim for one account, and my personal stuff on a different phone, and swapping between the two's worked great so far.

I'm starting a new job now, but the new job is asking me to get on the social media bandwagon and basically made me sign up for like 10 different social media and work communication services so I need a new phone since I made a new identity for that, obviously. What are some decent Android Lollipop or better phones that I can buy multiples of without breaking the bank? $50-$100 range maybe? I might've considered just using my personal identity but all those social media apps are going to bog down my personal phone. If the third phone works out though, I might just start migrating all my shit to individual phones so that I can stop worrying.

I need to recover a delete video file off my rooted note 5.

I'm on linux, and the phone has been shut down since the deletion.

I'm reading that it's certainly possible using photorec but it needs the internal storage to be mounted as exactly that, mass storage and not MTP etc. I don't know how to do that.

I can use the android SDK to make a dump of the internal storage and then mount that, but still, I don't know how to do that. How do I make an image of the internal memory and have it saved on my PC?

I'm hoping for a shortcut/fast guide for this. Anything?

>>58158898
Protip, if your job asks you to sign up to facebook, twitter or something dumb like that it isnt worth it, the most those guys should ask of you is using a certain IM app to keep in contact with you since they seem allergic to regular calls and sms or maybe just too broke for it.

>>
>>58159030
Ehh, I don't mind. They didn't make me use my personal account, and this way I can have a new public-facing professional front. I was going to sign up for some anyway but I was waffling on how I'd do it until the new job asked me to just basically sign up for all of them at once. Also nobody bats an eye if a person has a work phone and a personal phone.

What I'm more curious about is if anybody uses the T-Mobile family plans for multiple lines or if I can do better than the $70/mo + $20/mo per line for 4G that they have on their website.

I bought a lg optimus l90 a six months ago for $90.

It's fucking shit.

Two days after I bought it the screen cracked.

I used it for about 4 months with stock rom. 1 GB ram made pokemon go crash all the time.

On the stock factory rom the phone app would occasionally crash at random!

The cell reception is garbage. I live across the street from a fucking cell tower and it barely gets one bar if it is connected at all.

I flashed cyanogenmod--- not much difference.

Under cyanogenmod, if you changed the lock screen wallpaper to a large picture, the lockscreen (and nothing else) would become unusably laggy. Trying to change the wallpaper back to something normal would crash the wallpaper picker. I fixed it by factory-resetting (because I installed secDroid and could no longer use ADB).

This is what I get for buying a 3 year old phone without checking the specs.

######

I'm now contemplating buying a Moto g4 Play as a replacement because it has 2gb of ram. My budget is about $150 and I don't usually need much of anything besides the ability to occasionally use google maps over the network data.

Whatever phone I get I hope to not need to replace until it breaks. (I still have a working nokia 6230).

I'm in the usa using usmobile (which piggybacks off of t-mobile)

Active display means the phone lights up to show you the time whenever it detects your sausage fingers near its body or when it detects any vibration.

I disabled that shit immediately because all it does is waste battery (i live right next to a road where cargo trucks drive through every night), its just a tiny amount but this means that i can fully charge it just before i go to sleep and wake up after 8-9 hours with the phone at 98% instead of 94%, both times with wifi on and with f-droid and tachiyomi updating every 3 hours.

The Moto G 2016 line (G4, G4+, G4P) does have a notification led, its just hidden and disabled, with root you can use an app to enable it but only when its plugged and charging, there is also a rom for the G4+ that does use the notification led for notifications but its still buggy and only for that device, and since the led was disabled and never considered for actual use in the first place this means its huge, practically a low lumen flashlight instead of a tiny dot flashing every few seconds.

If the little led is that important to you and your budget is 100 dollars you might want to consider getting a Huawei P8 Lite, one of my nieces has it and its pretty good, the only disadvantage is having an absolutely disgusting stock rom and non removable smaller battery.

I have had several phones with notification light and after switching to a G4P i can tell you that i really dont see the advantage of one, but then again when my only notifications are obscure niche youtuber uploading part 20 of weeaboo game and my room is pitch fucking black when you close the door its no wonder i dont miss it.

They've supported 4G for years now (no problem here because like most of the world other than the USA, this place in Europe HAS phone operators operating some of the global LTE bands).

OTOH I actually also don't care much, yes. Hopping WLAN is cheaper and faster in most cases.

Not really.

But the "ability to repair" is as limited as on virtually every other phone. And you picked one of the Xiaomis without microSD. It'd be more like a Redmi4 / Redmi Note 3 or 4 / Mi Max or something if you want microSD.

There also are a dozen non-Xiaomi chinkphones that would apply.

I've had a BB Classic for a couple years, and a Curve 8520 for a couple before that. I've smashed the Classic's screen though, so need a replacement.

Uses are
>calling & texting (sometimes)
>emails (important)
>calendar (important)
>browsing (sometimes, mostly to use FB chat since BB discontinued the native app ages ago)
>security + privacy (important)

Should I a) get a new Classic, which fulfilled everything I needed admirably or b) get a new phone that does these and not much more?

If b), I'd really like more freedom with my device if possible so I was thinking about an old Nexus + flashing Replicant, but I'm not sure how painful one of those would be to use nowadays - can anyone advise?

My phone is long overdue for an upgrade, looking for something in the $150-$300 budget, mostly for browsing the internet/watching videos and streams, with some casual gaming on the side.

I don't really have any special features in mind, just looking for general recommendations. I live in France, my carrier is Free

I have a sony xa ultra but the screens colors look terrible compared to my old z, the color calibration features kinda suck, is there any way to get a better color profile or something? I usually like srgb or a slightly warm look (not super)

From what you state, your options are as follows:
1. Waiting for the Mercury (pic related)
2. Getting a nexus 6P on sale (was $399 during the summer iirc)
3. Or getting another classic, probably also on sale still.

So which of these options appeals to you the most? Is waiting tolerable? Do you really want full android and no keyboard?
>>
>>58162826
The OP3T is a good option if she's coming from iphones. She's probably expecting a good camera and relative smoothness. The P9/G4Plus don't offer that.

So OP3T, HTC 10, or Pixlel. Her only options tbqhwyf

My parents bought me a Samsung Galaxy S7 for Christmas even though I am fine with my current iPhone 4. I remember there being stories about the Samsung S7's blowing up, but my parents said that it was only the Samsung Galaxy Note 7s that did. I looked it up online and it turns out that a couple of Samsung Galaxy S7's have blown up over the past few months. My parents claim that they bought it a couple of weeks ago, so it shouldn't be from a faulty batch.

what do?
>>
>>58163011
>>58163672
Ah, I had no idea BB still had any phones left in them. I might wait until that and see how it reviews - until then, I could get another Classic for ~£150.

Alternatively, I'm considering forking out a bunch more yurobucks for a Neo FreeRunner (http://shop.goldelico.com/wiki.php?page=GTA04%20Complete) for dat sweet sweet freedom whilst I wait for the Neo900 to come out, if anyone has any experience with that?
>>
>>58163748
They're right that the note 7s have the actual problem, the recent S7 blowing up devices seem unrelated completely.

If you want to keep it, then keep it. Since you say you're fine with your current phone, then get a refund, give it to your parents, or sell it. Buy them something nice with a portion of the money as a thanks and then pocket the rest.

Just some ideas!~

They state they have plenty of phones coming, but the past two devices they released were pretty mediocre, although the dtek50 around here was reasonably priced.
This is the last design with the keyboard I believe. Unless they're going to release a Priv 2, or Passport 2/Classic 2 (with full android).

The Classic is such a good device though. I really hope they come out with a sequel.
No experience with the Neos, sorry.

Thanks. I'll try and preach the OP3T gospel to her.

I don't think she fully realizes how much of a gamble non-flagship androids really can be.
>>
>>58165137
Yes, exactly. It's very easy to see $150 android devices and without knowing much about operating systems, make the switch. But it's hellish if you have absolutely no idea what you're doing (and don't want to get dirty with AOSP/CM/etc).

Still, the OP3T is amazing for the price so convincing her to roll with that should be much easier. HTC 10 too depending on sales. Should last at least 3 years if she's not uber clumsy.

>>
>>58169440
Id say deal with it and get the HTC10 if you care about audio, your other two choices have legitimate flaws, not just some minor issue that most people dont care about.

LG G5/V10/V20: Bootloops up the ass, LG in general is a shitty smartphone brand, their only phones safe from their shitty soldering are ironically the low budget ones.

ZTE Axon 7: Stock rom kills a fuckload of apps whenever you lock the phone, notoriously facebook, all instant messaging apps, music players, gmail, stock messaging app, stock calls app, youtube, leddit, snapchat and even the fucking clock/alarm app, this means youll get absolutely no notifications unless you keep it unlocked and with the screen active at all times, which will obviously drain the battery seven times as fast, couple that with the phone having an AMOLED screen and youll have burn-in after a few weeks of use, not to mention random ghost touches if you keep it in your pants.

Now if you no longer want a phone with dedicated dac for audio i would get either the OP3T or the normal S7, depends on whether you want sd slot or not, dont even consider an iphone, the pixlel or any nexus phone.

I've got a 2013 Moto X right now. I like its small form and AMOLED screen. I dislike that its bootloader locked (though carrier unlocked and rooted) and its lack of an SD slot, and it's kinda falling apart.

It's a phablet, but it's got an SD slot and it's really cheap. I don't game at all on phones. Coming from a 2013 phone, I don't have many concerns about it's CPU/RAM.

Upset at my ASUS ZenFone 2's battery life.
Broke down and bought a OnePlus 3T over the ZTE nubia Z11.

Did I make the right choice? I based my decision on battery life and efficiency. I went with the 128GB model because no removable storage. (BTW: lol at the tards who bid on a used one on ebay when they went back in stock on the OnePlus store.)

Besides that, maybe the camera wasn't as good, hard to see much quality difference between the two. Didn't want my pictures to look blurry as fuq like on the nubia Z11 especially when I rarely take pictures of moving subjects.

Motorola gives you instructions on how to unlock the bootloader of their phones in their own page (Sony and HTC do too), so don't worry about that.

The G4's screen is on par with any flagship LCD phone, however the phone itself has a few problems, google them if you don't believe me.

The snapdragon it shipped with has serious overheating issues, games leave the phone hot enough to cook an egg on it, 1080p videos less so but it's still uncomfortable to hold.

Screen burn-in in the status bar even though it has an LCD panel, I've heard it only happens to people in mexico, canada and india but it's common enough for Lenovo to acknowledge it.

You might think the G4 Plus, supposedly an improved version of the G4, would suffer from none of this right? Nope, it has all that and more, the screen burn-in is now a world wide issue and unavoidable, the fingerprint sensor stops working randomly and the little glass covering the camera scratches easily and falls off.

If you want a Moto G phone get the G4 Play or just get the Moto Z Play; SD slot, cheap for what they offer, AMOLED on the Z Play, no issues so far and incredible battery duration for both.

I want a new phone since my oneplus one runs like shit these days, apps constantly lock up, so I have to force reboot on my phone to get it to work again.

I looked at the Xiaomi Mi 5s, and it looks like it has really good specs for the price. Does anyone here have one? What do you think about it?

The specs are very similar to those on the Oneplus 3T, but only has 3 GB of RAM. Does that even make a huge difference?

Currently own: Galaxy Nexus (Yes, the Samsung from 2011)

Considering: Xiomi Mi Max.
>Reasons to consider the above: Affordable, modern phone, very large battery life

For a person who needs an affordable modern phone with the best battery life, what are the alternatives to the Mi Max? I am buying the phone outright, no installments. Or is my research on point and the Mi Max is the optimum choice for affordability+battery life?

Thank you.

The Nexus line has been discontinued in favour of the Pixel stuff, and that is too pricey. Oneplus does not have the battery life.
>>
>>58174952
Xiaomi is only worth it if you get a redmi.

See if you can't grab a or zuk z2 pro instead. It gets ~8 hours SoT which is decent.

Or a redmi note 3 pro? That gets fantastic battery life and would be the better option if you don't mind a weak as shit camera.

I can get the Note 4 for a bit cheaper ($35) than the Mi Max. After checking out the ZUK Z2 Pro, I am not interested, as the battery life is much lower.
>>
>>58175287
It wouldnt cost me anything, id be giving the z to someone (an agreement we have, basically they destroy phones so i give them my old phone whenever they want a new phone).

As for that question mainly the camera i guess, im still kinda happy with it.

The note 4 has worse battery life than a zuk z2 pro.

IPS + Mediatek kills the battery much faster than AMOLED + Qalcomm.

Get a note 3 pro at least.

I have an Xperia Z3C running CM 12.1 with Xposed and microg that I've been using for 2 years now, but the camera sucks bad and the XDA community seems to have died down, so I'm looking for a new phone.

~5in display, good picture quality, and most importantly great AOSP support.
The Nexus 5X would be a no-brainer if there weren't the bootloop issue and it's age, and Google curbstomped the Nexus brand.
Would it be reasonable to get the Pixel for Developer support, even at it's current pricetag?
Is there any 'unofficial heir' to Nexus kind of phone or line that developers favor now?
>>
>>58176838
op3 is the unofficial heir right now. There were rumors that axon was thinking about filling that gap and nokia is reported to launch two devices this year "in close partnership" with google so maybe their line will be the nexus line.
>>
>>58162826
i'm just coming off a Nexus 5X and the camera is insanely good on that phone (same camera on the 6P)

both might have issues with bootloops at the moment, so maybe a Pixel

my 5X photos always came out better than my gf's iphone 6's ones

The OnePlus 3T looks amazing, BUT, is it a worthy upgrade compared to my current Note 4?
I think it might be, but my main scare is that it's only a 1080p display, as opposed to this 1440p. After reading about tests made specifically on smartphones, it's a noticable difference. But maybe the performance boost and newer OS and all that will be better?

Some thoughts
>I can afford it
>I do light smartphone gaming, such as Bloons TD5 or emulating Pokemon HGSS currently
>I take photos occasionally; weekly but not daily
>I listen to music almost all of my freetime
>I rarely watch shows/series/movies on my phone; I already have a good TV for that
>I feel that my Note 4 runs out of battery too easily, for instance it goes from 100% to dead in just a couple of hours of playing Bloons, and it gets really choppy in some games such as high rounds (70+) on Bloons, PoGo (if I were to play that again)
