I know /ptg/ on average has about 50-100 unique posters but why spend so much time and resources being negative and trying to effect trackers in a harmful way rather than letting them run their natural course?

Sure the memes were funny at first but it's been about a month now and most of the collages I see posted here are cringey and just plain out of date. The world of computing and trackers moves quite fast and someone doing something stupid (say uploading youtube2flac) get caught out and banned and are no longer relevant the next day.

They're doing a lot of destructive things like opening signups to anyone, global freeleech, bonus systems etc. They also flip flop on decisions and constantly have to be corrected by the community on which direction they should be going. Right now the negative effects aren't that visible because they keep throwing out freeleech and incentives that make the users happy. Eventually it's going to whiplash hard as people stop caring about the tracker and seeding/uploading in general because there's just no reason to with all the buffer everyone has. If I was feeling dramatic I'd compare it to a drug. Feels good at first but you're going to regret it later.

I understand the concerns entirely though, but there are good reasons for all of it.
Most people end up using that buffer on huge requests and it balances out anyways, because they get greedy realizing they'll never use it and don't care about a 5000.0 ratio as opposed to a 50.0 ratio.

It really depends. PTH is all about quality over quantity, APL is all about quantity over quality. Both are valuable. If PTH has quality but no quantity APL will pass it by sheer numbers, and vice versa. Even if their tracker ends up being okay, there's no denying this is a really rocky launch for them. The staff has made plenty of bad decisions already, and my trust level for them is literally zero. The main reason I support PTH is because they have all the hardcore/serious WCD users and experienced staff. Things are running like clockwork and they really know what they're doing. PTH is hella stagnant right now but it's a temporary problem that will be solved at some point in the future.

Just get on both PTH and APL and see which one ends up being the place to be. No sense putting all your eggs in one basket.

It depends on how it's implemented. PTH is also in talks about a bonus system (bonus system suggested went from "Denied Suggestions" back to "Suggestions"), and I support it as long as it's a very very very small one. Small but steady seed bonus that goes towards FL tokens is what I'm in favor of.

i got around this by using a VPN (which is the only sane option for torrenting at uni regardless of port openness)
