Hey guys,
I'm by no means an expert in headphone related stuff so I need your help.

I'm looking to buy some wireless Bluetooth headphones for work to use with my phone.
Budget is not a problem.
Even though they'd probably be cheaper online, I'd prefer it if I could go pick them up at bestbuy on my lunch hour.

I'm fine with either IEMs or full sized, though I'd prefer closed full sized.

I'm just looking for good sound quality, noise cancelation (both outside noise and prevent others around me from being bothered by what I'm listening to)
And comfort most importantly. Most IEMs seem to fall out of my ear easily and I'm just sick of cords getting in the way of me typing.

Thanks
>>

Can someone explain sound difference between HD650 and K712?
>>
>>58106161
K712 are warmer. Have a wider soundstage.

I'd argue that 600's are better than 650's, but if you find the 600's too boring, just go straight to a warmer more fun headphone like the 712's.
>>

>>58106119
I think that this is at best some middle age german dude, even his facebook page is somewhat recent.
It's noticiably smaller than odac combo and should power my hd600 at decent levels as well. There is other, stronger version but that's an amp only. Also, it's build like a panzer and I like it's looks more, plus I am a faggot that likes to go with things different to what other people have.

Some anon recommended me the SPH9500 for gaming and music on my PC.
Any thoughts on the SPH9500?
I'm also thinking about getting the HiFiMAN RE-400for my phone, an HTC 10.
Is it better than the bundled High-Res Earphones from HTC?
>>
>>58106226
Wider soundstage is nice. What about treble?
>>
>>58106269
662 EVO
better than the 681 EVO

668B is only decent if you replace the pads. even then they need either EQ, or something to filter out the highs.
>>
>>58106284
I personally find the treble in the 650's slightly too veiled for my liking. 600's hit the sweet spot. K712's do it fine in my experience.
>>
>>58106053
>new pads on the cloud but not the 7506
aren't the pads on the 7506 way worse?

Also, how is the bass on the 7506, I know it's weak but does it EQ well?
I'm considering getting either the hyperx cloud or the 7506, because as far as I can tell there's no good open V shaped headphone between 668b & DT880 and DT880's price is a bit steep for me at this point
>>
>>58106270
9500's are good. If you can find HD 558's for cheaper, I'd go for those because of improved comfort and slightly more consumer oriented sound.

Either one is great.

Can't comment on the RE-400's, though I've heard they have build issues. Don't take my word on them though. I'm not an IEM guy.
>>
What's a cheap and good DAC?

>>
>>58106317
>aren't the pads on the 7506 way worse?
Yep. I use my 7506 for monitoring though, so I don't use them for long, and changing pads changed the sig too much. Detail was lost due to soundstage too.

>Also, how is the bass on the 7506
Bass is detailed, but not that present.

>I know it's weak but does it EQ well?
No idea. I don't EQ them.

>I'm considering getting either the hyperx cloud or the 7506,
Clouds are probably a better choice. Better built, and not as sibilant as 7506.

>because as far as I can tell there's no good open V shaped headphone between 668b & DT880 and DT880's price is a bit steep for me at this point

Check out Takstar HI2050 or SEA1000. Both are great. SEA's are more V-shaped, and are a lot easier to find nowadays, with Takstar being changed to ISK, and reported driver issues over at /csg/ make me kind of skeptical.

SEA1000's need replacement pads, but you can get fairly cheap ebay velour ones that do the trick. I have them on my 668B
>>
>>58106317
>Also, how is the bass on the 7506, I know it's weak but does it EQ well?

Not him, but i think the bass of the 7506 is the best part of the phone, you can EQ frairly well, also you can get better isolation and a little higher bass with new pads.
>>
>>58106325
I can't find the HD 558 for less than 100$ (which is about my budget) that ships to Brazil, unfortunately.
The 9500 are, however, pretty cheap on ebay for some reason.

trying to decide between X2 and Argon

am i right in thinking their sound signature is pretty similar with the main difference being X2 being easier to drive, and having fartier bass due to being open back?

wasn't considering the X2 at all until yesterday when i noticed someone on ebay selling them for $175USD. if they're that much cheaper than the argons+amp and not fake i might go for it.
>>
Are sweaty ears with closed headphones and issue for anyone else?
>>
So my Piston 3 is dying, should I get the Xiaomi Hybrid? If not, then what should I get within the sae price range?
It will be used roughly so it needs to be cheap.
>>
>>58108245
Yep.
>>
>>58108042
Other than LCD2's which aren't hugely expensive second hand, his set-up is hardly anything out of this world. Quite pedestrian in fact. Sanskrits are cheap, and so are TA-01's. The rest of his set up is entry to mid-fi.
>>
>>58108245
Depends on the earpad material more than if its closed or open. DT 770's dont make my ears sweat at all, yet I've used hifimans with ZMF pads and such that are quite swamp ass tier.
>>
>>58108299
no
HJE125/another piston 3
>>
>>58108156
Neither have incredibly accurate low end, though I'll say Argons do beat out the X2's for tightness. X2's have more recessed mids, and the highs are more present.

Argons have better sub-bass too, though still not competitive with DT770's [though good luck finding anything even remotely similarly priced that does]

Argons do imaging better, and X2's have more width. [though both are still incredibly wide, especially the Argons for being closed]

I prefer Argons for comfort with lambskin pads, but X2's are also incredibly comfortable.

X2's don't necessarily require a separate amp, and are easily satisfied off onboard, assuming you have a relatively recent motherboard. Argon's absolutely do need a solid amp, so you have to factor at least an extra $50 for a DIY O2 or something, if you don't already have one.
>>
>>58108362
Why is that? I just checked their site and it seems like they have new ones they call 'Mi In-Ear Headphones Pro HD', but I can't find any good reviews for it.
I forgot to mention that it'll be used with an iPhone, the Piston 3 can control the volume, play/pause/next/previous, pretty much everything I need.
So if the new Xiaomis or the Panasonic one you mentioned can't do that then I guess I'll just get another Piston 3.
>>
>>58108419

So you can make headphones have less clamping force by stretching them out, is there any way to make them have more clamping force? Mine use an exposed metal headband and I was thinking to maybe wrap it in duct tape or some shit so it has more resistance to flexing, but I don't know if it would be a wasted effort.
>>
>>58106161
Tonality. HD 650 is flatter, less peaky in the treble. Both have a little warmer than neutral sound signature. Build is obviously different, whichever you prefer is subjective. Sensitivity is in the similar ballpark.
>>

I see that on eBay too, but there's no returns. Amazon has them for $200 after a $50 discount, not sure which to pick.

Anybody here think it would be worth it to spend the extra money and get the X2's through Amazon just in case I don't like them and want to return them?

I'm sure there's a good chance I'll like them. I primarily listen to rock, hip-hop, and pop. They've been described as good for those. But on the off-chance I don't like them, I'll be salty that I can't return them.

You'll be in pain long before you break your headphones and yes a very powerful amp is required. 100% volume from a motherboard varies a lot depending on the headphone amp used and its implementation. No motherboard will have enough power to damage headphones, that's for sure.

I'm between the Hyper X Cloud Core and the SPH9500. Which one is better for gaming and music on the PC?
I'm also thinking about a RE-400 for my phone.
>>
>>58111229
Probably the 9500 since it's open, you'd have to get a mic for it though.

>>
>>58111229

the philips is better assuming that the cloud core is still a rebranded takstar pro-80

both are pretty good though, if you really want a microphone than you could do a whole lot worse than the cloud (again assuming it's still a takstar)

Anyone else got any input on this? Or just in general what ~100 dollar amp/amp+DAC to use with the HD 600's.
>>
>>58111733
The fulla 2 seems to be a pretty good new amp/dac that is more powerful than the e10k and uses the same dac chip as the modi.
>>
>>58111534

I preferred the ZMF vibro to the th-x00s, a lot comfier, detachable cable and a more neutral signature all around, really really want to try the 900s though.

>>58111733

Going by the specs and chips in it the fulla 2 should be really good, it's essentially a modi without coax/optical and a weaker magni. Only reason to use a stack with that existing is if you need more power/ports and really want the marginal clarity of having each system being completely separate. I'm concerned about USB noise but that's an issue with every single AMP+DAC that uses USB

Same question but different bloke.

Had my new phone for a couple of months and just the other day I nearly had a heart attack when the 3.5mm jack started to act up already. Was just on one occasion, hasn't occured since, but I don't want to tempt fate. My old phone's headphone jack was completely unusable and I'd prefer not to fuck with my phone's 3.5mm jack any more if I can help it, especially at work where the connector gets knocked about a fair bit in my pocket.

Needs to be affordable, sub-£100 (UK source please), although the lower the better.

Battery life isn't really an issue, I only commute an hour each way and if I'm using them at work, specifically on a night shift, I can probably either use another pair, charge them while there, or just plug my phone into the speakers at work.

Would like them to look decent and be pretty minimalist, though. No 6 inch deep ear cups.

Isolating is key, though, since I commute on public transport and don't want to listen to other people and don't want them listening to me.
>>
>>58110032
I also fell for the 558 meme as my first pair of non 20 dollar headphones.

Literally shit. Just sound like my old plantronics gaymen headset but with too much bass. Used peace to lower the bass and they sound exactly the same.

I seriously think people are just spewing shit the same way that people do over at mechanical keyboards general. There's not really any advantage to my purchase except for basic preference like a tiny bit more of this or that or a better 'feel', absolutely not worth what I paid. Will not be doing that again.

inb4 I gotta spend more money.

That's what you told me at 20 dollars too.

It all depends on your motherboard not being noisy or shit, buy a fiio D3 if you're worried about it, run optical from your PC, enjoy the peace of mind for ~25 bucks. A modi 2/any 100 USD dac is overkill for most applications outside of clinical speakers or actual production.

You'll be fine

If it were an hd600 or 650 I'd recommend something nicer but that will be completely fine for the 598s, even getting a schiit stack would be maybe a 10% improvement in sound quality over that. The point of diminishing returns hits very quickly when it comes to amps/dacs, once you have a decent and clean signal any improvement will be very small and incremental.
>>
>>58116226
Thanks anon! In a thread on here from many months ago, some anon told me to grab and old soundblaster card after I asked about noise I was getting from my MoBo built-in sound. I've been extremely happy with audigy2's DAC and HD598s sound fine to me. Maybe an amp+another DAC combo would sound better but I wonder if its worth it... like you mentioned. I'm gonna save the cash for an even better paid of headphones instead and buy an amp if I end up needed it then.

Thanks again.

Any one have experience with the Shure 1540s? I'm looking for a high-end closed-back(I already have open covered). I've owned the TH600 in the past which I ended up selling due to the treble spikes and the overbearing bass which I liked at first, but became tiresome once I got used to it. I've also owned the Oppo PM3, and while I liked the sound quality and signature, the soundstage was claustrophobic, even by closed standards which made them hard to enjoy.
>>
>>58116088
I'd say out of them, HD600 would probably be best for the listening experience, but I use the LCD's as my daily desktop drivers, and they seem to do well. I have the EQ'd up in the highs around 9k by like 2 db.
>>
>>58116433

I disliked the th-x00 for the exact same reason, bought a used great condition ZMF vibro mk2 for ~350 USD and it fixed all of the problems I had with the sound, extremely neutral in the mids, slightly accentuated bass but no murdertreble, though the only headphones I have to compare it to are the DT 770s and the SHP9500. Hearing some of the better sennheisers would probably make me think that it's more colored than it seems.

I considered the shure 1540s but was spooked at how laid back the frequency response looked, really want to try the Ether-C now

Only if you put on your headphones and hear a lot of buzzing and electronic noise, in that case you will need a dedicated separate DAC/soundcard that is not influenced by all the other noise on your motherboard. ALC892 should be fine, all up to how shit your board is feeling

What website with graphs can be 100% trusted and accurately reflects your experience?
Is http://graphs.headphone.com/ any god?
What should I use to compare headphones?
>>
>>58119858
I find innerfidelity tends to be the closest to my experiences, though none quite match it. Everyone's hearing alone is different.
>>
>>58119783
i dont really think its treble but rather mids? My k553s are already v shaped and i still feel the vocals arent strong enough for my liking.
>>
>>58119858
none

>>58119996
553 is balanced more than v shaped, it has the same amount of treble as 400i as I said. 880, 612 & 702 have more
>>
>>58119858
You can trust most when you understand the compensation, averaging and possible smoothing used, coupler used, limitations of the measurement system or data given and when you can compare the same pair of headphones measured on different sites. To tie the plots into audibility requires a lot of listening skill. Use an equalizer, try out different headphones, check measurements etc.
>>
>>58114669
Have you tried any other amps than the m6 to compare it to soundwise?

Looking for a:
- closed
- bass-rich (but not "ONLY BASS FUCK ALL") headphone
- "affordable" up to 200$ or something like that

Story:
> bought PC-350 Sennheiser long years ago
> it worked awesome on my old ""premium motherboard"" with Windows 7 (it had that older Dolby meme)
> Windows 8 - 10 comes along, motherboard still the same
> Dolby disappears
> everything sounds like poop
...
> bought a new Sound Blaster MemeCard
> sound is nothing like it used to be

> why closed
I have an ADH-700x.
It's comfy as fuck. Never gets sweaty. Best part. You can also hear others, awesome. But...
And while it's good for e-sports, any electro music, or OST, or even Hans Zimmer like just sounds like poop.
So for gaming, okay. For music...not so much.

> why bass-rich
Well, most closed ones have enough bass, so you can pretty much ignore that point I guess.
>>
>>58120524
Repost from /mu/ btw.
Cont'd:
I don't care about brand, led, color, nothing.

Quality and warranty matters.
(Hah, Audio Technica warranty fucking matters. Bought AT earphones, returned them to AT like 7 times, and in the end I just exchanged them to the 700. You can really feel the "Made in China" in the later AT products... but they didn't let me pick another brand like Sennheiser. Though, Sennheiser's high-end products are all open IIRC.)

> inb4 stop using proprietary sound cards
> inb4 just make your own music
> inb4 headphones are a meme
etc etc.
>>
>>58120529
>> inb4 just make your own music
is this actually a think in /mu/?

consider XPT100/HM5
they're not super bass, but they have good bass and it's still their focus

Alternatively, MDR10R(BT)

Alternatively, dt770, though that also comes with quite strong treble
>>
>>58120592
Hmm.
A friend of mine bought the DT770 IIRC, and he loves it. The MDR10R has a smaller ear cup as far as I can tell.

Though it will be used on a smaller head, so the smaller cup is no issue really.
(The XPT is not available in my third world country.)
>>
>>58120009
my old im02 s were pretty balanced iirc and the vocals were much stronger than my k553s which led me to agree that they were in face vshaped
>>
>>58120638
>>58120592
One more - hopefully last question.

Do you think the Sound Blaster Z can drive the 250 Ohm model?
(They say it can handle up to 600Ohm, but in reality, it's around 220Ohm or something like that.
Again I just read forums, I have no idea.)

Or if I should not risk the 250, which one should I buy?

Also I can exchange the Z for a ZX (due to EU laws you can return in 14 days, full refund), but I checked both models and the only difference really is that "Audio Control Module"... a thing that acts as a volume knob/mic, etc. That alone is not really worth the ~100$ price difference IMO.
>>
>>58120668
don't risk it
80 is 95% of the way there & you can take it on the go
>>
>>58120686

No one should say anything about value or worth. These are subjective values and everyone has their own priorities. This is not a question anyone else can answer for you.
>Past headphones
Do you know why we bother asking this one? It's so you can give us some ideas on what you want based on some known reference points.
With that in mind, why would you make the switch in the first place? What would the SE846 do for you that the HD800 doesn't do?

>Comfort level
You say you don't care, but Shure style IEMs are of the concha fit type, and the 846 is much bulkier than the lower number models
>Sound signature
846 takes on the very common signature of being bass boosted. The noteworthy thing about the bass boost here is that it behaves like an acoustic shelf EQ, contrary to most IEMs. The only filter that attempts treble balance is the white.

Another thing, 846 is very sensitive to output Z, particularly in the treble.

>>58117008
>>58113458
You realize you don't need PEACE, right? It has some features the stock version doesn't have, but you don't need it.

The most broadly useful filter is the peaking filter, your bread and butter. You may consider a shelf filter for tweaking the ends, but that about all you really need to use.
Use pink (1/f) noise bursts and sine sweeps to hone in on offensive peaks and dips.
Take your equalized headphones and just listen to music with them and see if you like the result. Try not to get obsessed about it sounds with one track, but with many tracks overall.

>Do I have bad hearing?
You set up your EQ poorly. Hearing has nothing to do with that.
You have a parametric EQ. Make use of the fact that it is parametric and tweak the center frequency and Q of each filter.
It would be nice if you looked at the summed spectrum once in a while
Lower the preamp a bit to offset your EQ gain when you are done.
>>
>>58120524
>Closed, bass rich
V-moda m100 sounds just like that. I've heard you have to get the xl pads and stretch them out since the clamp is a bit much though.
>>
>>58120727
Damn, looks neat-o.
Kinda sad it's twice the price of the DT770 though.

Ok, I added them both to the list, don't know which one should I buy.
(It looks like they don't offer any warranty for the V-moda here though... :/)
>>
>>58120913
again, the difference between 80 & 250 is minor, and although 250 has better sound when plugged into an amp, 80 is the better choice because you can use it portably without having to buy an additional portable amp

So I found these DT headphones:
Beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO (80 OHM)
Beyerdynamic DT-770M
Beyerdynamic DT 880 (80 OHM)
Beyerdynamic DT-990 Pro

The 770 Pro is the best? 770M?
(From what I reckon the 880 and 990 are open / less-bass ones?)

880 and 990 are open. 990 isn't exactly bass light. It is distinctly trebly.

Which one has the better / more comfy band/pad?
I know... but... I have to pick one.
>>
I noticed on innerfidelity and goldenears that the X2s have a high treble peak around 8KHz-9KHz

Are they sibilant when hitting those frequencies?
>>
What are some good nigbass IEMs for like 50 or less?
>>
>>58121421
Eh, I wouldn't say it's problematic at all with a decent amp, feeding them some more power and lowering volume smoothes out those peaks, not that they're a big deal anyway.
>>
>>58121643

they don't even need an amp. even a nokia 3310 is enough

>I know... but... I have to pick one.

>You can't just put velvet in the shit and think they're nice headphones.
Dave Chappelle, before throwing the 770 Pro across the room.

There's definitely a preference factor here, but people tend to prefer porous pads for comfort.
770 Pro has less clamp and uses velour pads. The pads are porous and seal less.
770M has significantly more clamp, and comes with PVC pads. This one is explicitly designed to be used in noisy conditions. Porosity and clamp differences would also make the 770M have more extended bass and more bassy in general.

Headband pressure is listed as a spec.
DT 770M - 6.5 N
Pro models - 3.5 N
"premium" Edition models - 2.8 N

>>58121449
>nigbass IEMs for like 50 or less
The better question is to ask what isn't a nigbass IEM for 50 and less.

>>58121964
>not seeing the adjustable Q and center frequency
Priceless.

>>58121421
>Are they sibilant when hitting those frequencies
Sibilance is the characteristic of having sharp peaks in the treble. So...yes.
Sibilance is not restricted to headphones that have an overall treble tilt.

Incidentally, I find it very hard to come up with headphones that have an overall treble tilt. Some have one or two treble peaks with wider and deeper trenches in the highs, others are just V-shaped.

Hi, first time poster in this thread. I've recently been gifted a new sound card and I'm looking for a good pair of headphones to go with it. I don't listen to music too much and I mostly use them to play games, chat over Teamspeak and sometimes edit videos/audio files.

If you like the 668B, then you'll like the 880's. It'll just sound outright better.

Got my Sennheiser 598SE today. Finally graduated from Skullcandy.
They sound great in terms of dynamics but they kinda lack the punch that my old ones had. Heavy music doesn't sound as heavy. Or do they just need to be broken in and used for a bit?
>>
>>58123614
No. They're just nowhere near as bass heavy as skullcandy. Let your ears adjust. A decent amp may improve them, depending on how your onboard performs, though it won't be much of an improvement if any.
