With a hammer and chisel. Then when you're done, you deposit the plastic shards and twisted bits of rust into the trash where they belong and go get yourself a real keyboard like a Razer Blackwidow.

Steelseries something, it was huge as fuck but had blues, had nothing against it really except it was too bulky and is all sticky and shit now
>>

Why did you pick that one over the blank board?
>>
>>58102629

You might be able to fix it if you disassemble it and clean everything with alcohol. Just don't plug it in until you're done cleaning it and it's been dry for at least 48 hours.

Should I buy a meme keyboard from unicomp?

Or is it a scam
>>
>>58102788
Its not a scam. The biggest difference is that they use lighter plastics so the case isnt as rigid
>>
>>58102799
Is it worth it?

I've only used one mechanical keyboard so far, and that's been a Chinese knockoff I bought as a teenager.

It has served well, but it's literally falling apart now.
>>
>>58102721
That's actually the plan, I just need a contingency if that doesn't help
>>
>>58102837
Desolder the PCB and hand-wire the switches to a microcontroller.
>>
A lot of these mechanical keyboard guides suggest 'trying' out the keyboards first to get a sense of what type suits you...

But say I live in Melbourne, Australia...where can I go to 'try out' mechanical keyboards without looking like a complete autist?

Found some keyboards at the thrift today, and one seemed quite interesting. It's a NMB rt6855t+. Anyone with a model M or F knows how the assembly is held to the steel plate by paper thin plastic rivets, right? This fucking thing seems to be bolt modded by default as the assembly is held to the plate by quite a bit of screws. Being that this is secondhand, it's possible that its previous owner bolt modded it, but I doubt anyone would go through that kind of trouble to just leave it at the thrift. This is probably the only old keyboard I've found that seems to have these screws by default.

To add to the oddity, the keyboard isn't even mechanical. It uses very tactile rubber domes. Though it feels quite nice, this just seems like a lot of effort for a rubber dome keyboard.

Just got their 122 key layout board. It shipped in 3 days, and I'm super pleased with it. It really depends on what you're looking for though. The actuation force required is somewhat high. It may not be responsive enough for something like that. For typing though, it's perfect.

What happened to novatouch keyboards? They used to be sold all over at a decent price as a topre alternative, but now I can barely find them and the ones I found are ridiculously expensive (e.g. https://www.amazon.ca/gp/aw/d/B00MY3S288/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1482305690&sr=8-1&pi=SX200_QL40&keywords=topre&dpPl=1&dpID=418jZCuB4KL&ref=plSrch)

No, dollars are a meter of success in life. Vaginas are just generally exchangeable for dollars, assuming you aren't gay.

That being said, with that setup, I wouldn't count on seeing a dick that isn't your own, either. Beautiful work, though... like fucking fantastic craftsmanship, as I said.

>>58103539
Tbh vaginas are kind of useless in general. Sounds like they just cause chicks a load of problems, even if they exploit them to do shit like not have to learn anything and not have to get real careers. Like, if a program I wrote leaked a bunch of memory every month, that'd mean I wrote a shitty program. And like stallman said, reproduction isn't impressive because fucking plants can do it.

It's a bit silly to assume there's a 'best switch' that will be unanimously agreed as being the best. In fact, trying to force that argument is what makes these threads so uninteresting to scroll through and read when it's either a topre or buckling spring enthusiast trying to shove them down your throat. >by January 1, 2017 all CHERRY switch and sensor products will be sold
under the ZF brand name
But why??
>>
>>58124999
hope this happens and goes to shit, so I can sell all my cherry boards few years later as "GENUINE VINTAGE CHERRY MX SWITCHES CLICKY KEYBOARD" on ebay for an inflated price.
>>
>>58124999
Cherry name is associated with shit by now

Old modes, scratchy feel, bad quality control

Also something about patents

I bought this keycap set from wasd keyboards, does anyone have (had) experience with their "UV coating" shit? I loved the look of the keycaps on the picture, and it looked very comfy. Pic is what kind of color scheme I chose
>>
>>58125680
You have ten seconds to justify that color scheme

Thanks for the support /g/uys... Anyways I cancelled the order on the keycap set, where is a good place to buy keycaps?
>>
>>58125921
Yes but what were you trying to "draw" with those colors in those places?
>>
>>58125982
The yellow spots are where I will be frequently touching since I'm a "gaymer" I tend to use a bit of the number row and other keys next to wasd, honestly, the more I look at it, the more I'm disgusted sorry for the cringe guys

just get a normal keycap set instead, You can go for custom keycaps made by maxkeyboard.

http://www.maxkeyboard.com/products/cherry-mx-keycap/ansi-layout-keycap-set/

Or an even cheaper alternative would be to just buy colored keycaps from elite keyboards

man, I want to build an aluminum TKL, but I really detest how the bezel on the tex case is not uniform...

pic related is example of tex case

Uniform what
>>

I think he means that the top and bottom bezels aren't the same size as the ones on the side

TKL is ugly and asymmetric already

If you cared for symmetry or aesthetic you'd have bought a 60â„… or a hhkb

there are some korean customs that fit your description, but they are expensive
>>
>>58126232
tfw no korean custom
>>
>>58126435
>>58126549
the only aluminum korean customs I know of are the ones that were sold in very limited quantities and sell for up to hundreds (thousands?) of dollars now, which is obviously beyond my budget, and that's if the owners even want to let go of them

nowadays all I see are acrylic boards being sold which I'm not very interested in. do people even run aluminum customs anymore? i've checked on geekwhack a few times but the website doesn't really lend itself to easy navigation. where would I go to check out what's being run? are there any established vendors? deskthority maybe?

I may consider buying one but i don't really know the difference between a normal one and a mechanical one .
Is it sooo better ?
>>
>>58126794
there is a TKL varmilo on massdrop right now, so you could buy that, then buy the aluminum case when it drops later. It should come back after a month and a half since you just missed the previous the drop
>>
>>58126809
have you found any other boards
>>
>>58126809
you could buy a Unicomp or a model M on ebay

>comfy
ergodox, maltron or kinesis
the feeling in switches differs and is pretty subjective. Test a few ones aside from reds and see your preferences.

The biggest difference is that mechanical switches come in a huge variety of flavors. If you prefer a certain type of feel that rubber domes don't offer then go for it.

How are Matias Quiet Clicks compared to simplified black Alps? I think those black Alps are kind of scratchy but otherwise decent.

Pic related is what I'll buy, despite the stupid glossy finish.

Here in Eastern Europe, it's a month of work - both because of our minimum wage and because you have to pay VAT on them as well.
>>
>>58127027
I haven't used many Alps boards. My main point of reference is an AEK with oranges. Compared to those, MQCs are much more tactile with far less ping (apparently ping is a common problem with Alps, and Matias has less of it across the board). I don't remember the AEK being scratchy, but MQCs are certainly much smoother than my Cherry boards.

The main flaw in Matias switches, I think, is the slightly smaller stem that wobbles and rattles around a lot and tightly grips any keycaps you put on it. Chattering is also a common problem but you may be able to fix that yourself.
>>
>>58127256
Wait does it really take a month to earn $200 in disposable income on minimum wage in Europe. I thought yuropoor was just a meme.
In my state minimum wage is $400 a week or $280 after uncle sam takes his cut
>>
Is KBParadise still good to buy? https://www.massdrop.com/buy/29252
I was thinking about this, thoughts?
>>
>>58126891
Yeah primarily older membrane boards. Nothing amazing.

>>58126903
I heard that I should avoid unicomp
>>
>>58127417
Unicomp are nearly identical to model Ms. The biggest difference is that they use less plastic in the case, that is it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-A-vRZth7SI
One thing too is that he got the keycaps wrong in his review. On the classic white and grey keycaps they are two pieces like the original. On the one he is reviewing they are one piece
>>
>>58127287
Yeah I've heard about the chatter. I haven't run into that problem yet, even with the cheaper boards I've used. Apparently Alps switches can be easily taken apart by taking the top of the switch housing off with some toothpicks, though I don't know if it's the same story with Matias switches. Either way I'm not afraid to desolder. I think I'll go with it, thanks.

>Apparently Alps switches can be easily taken apart by taking the top of the switch housing off with some toothpicks, though I don't know if it's the same story with Matias switches
They're exactly the same. I remedied most of the chatter on my MQCs by opening them up and cleaning/adjusting the contacts.
