>>
Absolutely no drivers
Remember, this OS wasnt meant to run on just any old desktop. Its meant for embedded systems and things that arent going to be using alot of resources anyway. Graphical drivers are nonexistent for anything.
This is meant for stuff like CNC machines, checkout terminals, and other dedicated machines.
Not for gaming, shitposting or pretty much anything else.

If you have a Pre-2005 laptop and think this a good choice due to the system requirements, just dont. Its better to use what your laptop was designed to use, XP, 2000, 98, etc, because there will be drivers.

Ive tried this on every single one of my thinkpads except for my oldest one that ran 95. There were only supported drivers for one of them, so the rest were left with just the generic drivers that really held the system back.

Forget about using this on anything with modern parts, good luck finding drivers for anything PCI-E
>>
>>58036182
Its like XP basically but has no drivers
The only thing it has going for it, is that it has support by microsoft for years into the future.

WES7 summary copypasta:
-Based off Windows 7
-Support ends in 2021 instead of 2020
-You can select components you want to install. Including removing IE.
-Embedded Features such as no GUI boot, RAMDisk driver, ability to be installed and booted from external HDD and write filters.
-Volume_BA channel, insert key and you are done. No activation.
-Enterprise features such as Applocker available in Windows 7 Enterprise/Ultimate
-Keyboard Filter* through group policy that allows you to disable keyboard keys/key combinations.
-Updates are on separate channel, does not install dedicated telemetry updates.**
**Do contain Quality Rollups though. Advice to either disable Update and use write filters:EWF(HORM)/FBWF or manually download the security only updates from windows catalog.
*Requires WEDU1.2 to download the update, and use DISM to add the package.

WES7 is a componentized version of Windows 7. Basically like nLite/vLite but official Microsoft version.
POSReady 2009 is a version of XP that is meant for POS Systems. It also have a small degree of componentization during setup. The degree of componentization is far less than WES09 which allows you to choose from thousands of components.
3rd party application? Install like normal? Run setup kek.

Linux has better performance and actually helps you learn to program.

Windows will never have a good package manager or good file system and it will always be a branch of the NSA.

You are all cucks for wanting to use anything made by Microsoft.
>>
>>58042295
Reduced botnet, increase in flexibility and choice. You can choose not to install Internet Exploder if you wish. You basically can take part in designing your user experience.
>>58042330
Many people would just learn a bunch of commands that are incompatible with other distros. They will only learn something useful if they are into it.

Windows Embedded Standard 2009 and XP Embedded are more "Gentoo" than WES7, they require you to install tools on a development machine, install XP on target device and run Target Analyzer Probe which outputs devices.pmq file. Import this .pmq file into target designer. Using component designer, import driver files, manually add registry data and load the completed customized package into the SQL database. Next, select components in Target Designer you want to have. There are many, many components. After selecting, check dependencies and build the image. The image will be dumped in a folder. Format the HDD of target device with an XP machine, and copy all the contents in the image folder into the HDD. Afterwards, insert the HDD to target device. First Boot Agent should start.

>>
>>58052206
I'd just like to interject for moment. What you're refering to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.

Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called Linux, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.

There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called Linux distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux!

The POSReady link provided by OP is 2009 version, not POSReady 7.
Not sure which tl;dr you want, so:
POSReady 2009 is XP that ends support in 2019. Contains some embedded features such as FBWF. Moderately componentized.
POSReady 7 is Win 7 that ends support in 2021. Contains some embedded features such as FBWF, EWF and Keyboard Filter. No componentization.
WES09 is XPe that ends support in 2019. You do not install this OS, but instead install tools to build an image that will be copied to the HDD for booting. PXE, SD and USB boot are supported. Updates must be installed manually though.

WES7 is Win 7 that ends support in 2021, it have moderately-high componentization. Contains some embedded features(optional) such as EWF(HORM), FBWF, Keyboard Filter, Message Box Default Reply and Dialog box Filter. Updating can be done by the OS unlike XPe and WES09. You can choose not to install many components such as Internet Exploder.

Windows Embedded Compact 7 is Windows CE. Requires Visual Studio and Development tools installed to build an image. For ARM and x86, not compatible with almost anything since it is Windows CE.

wtf.. I feel like a noob again
is POSReady 2009 XPe? does the e just stand for embeded?

Would you be so kind asto define componetization?

So we can get POSReady 2009, but not WES09? what about POSReady 7? Are the keys for that leaked yet?

XPe is XP Embedded
POSReady 2009 from my tinkering seems to be built from XP Pro directly since there are a few distinctive features of XP Embedded such as a long CMD prompt window by default which POSReady 2009 does not have.
My analysis is this
XP Pro > XPe > WES09
XP Pro > POSReady 2009
WES09 .isos are very rare nowadays it seems. Also since it have no update feature, you have to either update it or use a write filter to protect the image.
POSReady 7 keys are not leaked yet. Probably never will I suppose.
Componentization is allowing you to choose what to install during(and after for WES7 using DISM online) setup.

AC'97 drivers crash 2009, Intel HDA shows up as an "unknown device" and the OS doesn't recognize it even after I've run its official installer

Try finding both drivers from the update catalog. Also some some HD Accelerator graphics drivers packaged by intel was actually turbo boost driver by mistake.
