Sometimes Virtualbox works better then QEMU. I don't know why but it's worth a try.

didn't have drivers for my usb 3.0 ports, had to pop my usb drive into a 2.0 one to stop it complaining about missing drivers. I imagine you could source the drivers if you downloaded them onto the usb as well.
