I got it from a cell phone plan in June 2015 and I couldn't care less about smartphones back then.

It's a Samsung running kitkat so Towelroot should work on it.

Would it be too risky? I really don't want to brick my phone. I tried KingoRoot once, and the task was too great for my nasty laptop. It stopped doping anything and, against all advice, I deconnected the USB cable. My phone wouldn't boot and I thought I bricked it, but I took out the battery and somehow solve the problem.

I got a first gen J1 (4G), 4.4.4. I got it rooted by flashing a custom bootrom and and running a chink program that I don't recall the name on my PC.

Nigga, there is a ton of tutorials on YouTube and on GSM Arena, and they look pretty legit to me.

ah yes, did this too since my tablet couldn't connect to my computer and needed root for flashing a new recovery.

felt really sketch having to have the internet on to have root.
