It's not even close to Foobar. It doesn't have library support for starters. Just because it looks barebones upon the first startup, doesn't mean it's like Foobar. How about you actually inform yourself about it or maybe use the software before throwing such comparisons around?

I had an issue with foobar and honestly didn't have an idea what to do. I tried to think of alternatives and couldn't come up with any. I think the last non-foobar player I used was winamp.

>>58013629
I do still use it but it has an odd problem with an internet radio I sometimes like to listen. It randomly cuts out. Doesn't happen if I open the stream with VLC or any other player. Never used to happen with foobar either before I reinstalled windows.

mpd+ncmpcpp (Linux), MusicBee (Windows) master race. I'd use ncmpcpp for everything, but unfortunately it glitches the fuck out on some of the stuff I have that has cyrillic in the filenames and I don't feel like renaming my entire collection just to please a 'tarded windows binary. When I switch to Linux fulltime, though, I don't think that'll be an issue. It has to do with Windows retarded file naming format.

“Free software” means software that respects users' freedom and community. Roughly, it means that the users have the freedom to run, copy, distribute, study, change and improve the software. Thus, “free software” is a matter of liberty, not price. To understand the concept, you should think of “free” as in “free speech,” not as in “free beer”. We sometimes call it “libre software,” borrowing the French or Spanish word for “free” as in freedom, to show we do not mean the software is gratis.

Speaking of MIDI music files. Does anyone know how MIDI files my be corrupted?

I have the System Shock soundtrack and the song's length varies greatly depending on what program I use to play it back in. Like by minutes in some cases. Naturally it sounds completely different. It's not sped up or anything. Just a very differnt arrangement with the same instruments and voices. Somehow the instructions are being interpreted wrongly. I know MIDI can have sub-songs and such but still...

Similar stuff happened just now with a .mod file I wanted to play back using the DUMB Module decoder. Load a file into playlist and it shows up as 2 different ones. Lenght reports back all buggy as well.

Anyone experience things like this before?

The problem is not really about Windows, it's about a Windows music player.

If someone runs Linux or BSD, even if they post about some music player, they likely know how to use bash, and the FLOSS communities are (thinly) bound to hardware (electric circuits, open hardware, low-level development, soldering) communities.

I'm ok with someone running Windows and involved in such communities or activities, even though I find soldering boring.

OP made a thread whose the whole point was a Windows music player. This simply belongs to technophile and/or Windows forums.

ended support. customization is pretty much limited to plugins and skinning. if you needed a new function, you'd have to turn to other software.

while components and skinning scene for foobar is mostly died away, it at least still updates. i used winamp religiously ever since i downloaded my first mp3 with napster. i eventually had to make the switch to foobar because winamp really doesn't handle libraries well, and tagging, art display and the customization experience with foobar is just so much better than winamp.

>I want to type to control my media player

I love how this common among cucks (most notably Apple cucks), the first response to a missing feature that is completely reasonable is "Why would you do that" or "Who needs that in 2016".

">what is autohotkey"

I know what it is, when I used to used Windows I used it for a custom keyboard layout stuff.

>because your ridiculous lack of software support always forces you to basically reinvent the wheel in your terminal

Not really, xbindkeys already exists, here is the relevant code from .xbindkeysrc:

"chromium-browser"
Mod4 + f

Yup, 2 lines.

Autohotkeys is pretty much the same:

"#+Break::
Run " Run "C:\Program Files\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe"

Also for things like cursor movement you use xbindkeys and xdotools *together* (see: the UNIX philosophy)

>overcomplicating things,

Where exactly in 2 lines is the overcomplication?

i thought something was wrong with my eyes, but your terminal is fucked
>>
>>58019811
what do you mean by scriptable? like scripting playback commands? there are components for scripting the interface (albeit the scripting is awful and it's very limiting) and there's extended formatting as well. it can do everything you are doing there except tab completion, because that's not very necessary for programs with interfaces.

also everything you listen to is just bad but i respect your desire to enjoy bad music.

>>
>>58021599
You're too far gone in the "let's type shit instead of using a GUI" direction to be able to have this conversation, and that's saying something if I'm the one saying it, someone who prefers wmic in the command prompt over two to three clicks on the Windows GUI.
>>
>>58010348
I really like it on android, but they still need to improve some stuff to be the very best hands down.
For example, when you select the shuffle option, the next song is going to be the fucking same every fucking time. Why do they not random the playlist each time you change the song? You select X song, listen through the playlist, if you select that X song again it repeats the playlist wtf
Also, no widget, at the very least they could have included a 4x1 widget.
That said, in other OS it is the best to me.
>>
>>58021904
I can most definitely type <winkey + r> "wmic os where primary=true reboot" faster than I can move the cursor to the bottom corner of the screen, wait for the Windows 10 start menu to load, then click the power icon, then click reboot.
>>
>>58022172
You what? It's literally just win+x then up up right down down down enter. wmic for shutdown is just fucking excessive.

Even if I wanted to type instead of doing that mortal combat combo shit, I'd just do
win+r and type there shutdown -r directly.

Fuck yes. I've got mine configured exactly how I want it and I wouldn't accept any substitute.

it works but not in cases where you're trying to batch tag a completely untagged set of files that aren't in track order.

i had to manually turn (right) into (left) because it wouldn't match.

Well fuck. I do in fact need to create a account to use the tagger right? Im not just wasting time?

If you look at something like the KDE file dialog, you still use * for wildcards.
The difference is that you get feedback in form of seeing what files your filter matches instead.

That is the main difference between the GUI and the CLI paradigms.

CLI tools are filters. They take an input, process it and give you the result.
GUI tools are assistants.
They make sure that the user is following the process or to things in the right order etc. They inform.
Doing the task is secondary.
Now if you don't need the feedback, CLI is faster.

But the idea that "CLI vs GUI" is "keyboard vs mouse" is ridiculous.

Take something like text editors.
While I use a CLI editor for a lot of things, I would always go to a GUI text editor to do any meaningful work.
With CLI, I mostly substitute text or delete stuff. But I need a GUI to input text or edit more advanced things.

I am applefag and I use VOX because "it just werks". I know you can emulate foobar through wine, but won't it screw it up in any way? Also, why foobar? Is it just a lightweight, simple music player or it has something more going on?

Is there a player that looks like this for Windows?
>>
>>58026118
I don't know. I suppose you'd need to have bash in Windows, prior to this: maybe look at Cygwin, then set MPD and ncmpcpp up: http://crunchbang.org/forums/viewtopic.php?pid=182574 https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ncmpcpp.

I don't know how to install Cygwin, besides that you need Apple's Bonjour (therefore you need iTunes).

If you have any question, just ask.

But we are not triggered, for fuck's sake. No one is triggered ITT and we already have MPD, we're glad you enjoy it but seriously, if we were triggered by such a music player we'd all run macOS.

As a huge portion of us run Linux by choice (for centralized and up-to-date repos, for low-level configuration and development, because it teaches us the Unix learning curve, for the freedom of choosing among different philosophies (Canonical, Red Hat, Archlinux, Gentoo), because of the choice of DEs and WMs, for free software, etc. – otherwise we'd use a hackintosh, as shown in this guide: http://x220.mcdonnelltech.com/) the "something nice they can't use" idea just doesn't make sense (when, again, we could run macOS instead).

For some reason some triggered people evacuate these feelings by triggering other people, which makes sense in this case: I'm sure OOP will never enjoy a rewarding job with a stable family situation and jerks off on Tesla cars all day.

Best music player on Windows. MPC-BE is better at video.

I don't usually play music in desktop Linux. Is amarok still good? Haven't tried mpd.

On Android, foobar2000 pales in comparison to Poweramp which is a lot better in every way (and was recently on a $0.10 sale).
