Remember to reapply your thermal paste once in a while. You don't want to turn your PC into an oven, do you?
A pea sized concentration of the thermal paste is usually the best choice, then let the heatsink spread it.
Good choices are: Noctua NT-H1, Thermal Grizzy Kryonaut and Prolimatech PK-2/3 Nano.

Always state the purpose of your PC, your budget, AND YOUR COUNTRY if outside the USA.
If you are asking for improvements, clarify whether you want to lower price or to improve specs or build quality.

a couple questions
first, I've got a fury x coming in the mail after waiting weeks for my rma. Before this I had a 295x2, so pretty similar setup with a small difference. with the 295x2 I had 2 noctuas in the front pulling air in, then 2 gentle typhoons in push pull on the 295x2 rad, the 295x2 stock fan on the back as the exaust and my cryorig r1 for the cpu
now, i think im going to use the GT for intakes (r5 has a bit of limited airflow the SP takes a bit better advantage of), the stock fan on the fury x, and then a noctua for an exhaust with the cryorig still, in this kind of set up
is this the best way to go about this? i wish i could switch over to a aio on the cpu but i cant afford it right now
really just looking for silence at this point, performance is more than enough for 90% of everything i do
>>
>>57984102
I don't see why you think moving the fan would make the fan quieter

OH BOY HERE WE GO
Do you want us to actually max out a $3000 ITX build? Or do you want us to reduce the price and keep the PC good for dumb gaymen?
>>
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/K3VWJV
gaymen pc, ~1300 dollar budget, pls rate, new to pc building, thank you
>>
>>57983357
Fuck your meme pastes that you are forced to replace every year. Mx-7 is the best choice.
>>
>>57984246
Why would I need something faster than the 6700k? Seems like it would run hot in such a small case
>>
>>57984290
Get a better cooler, hyper 212 evo (still cheap as fuck, but better than what you have) fits on my 6600k in my N200
I basically have what you have, you can step up to gsync 1440p 144hz if you like, the 1070 can do 1440p at ~90fps for new games on ultra settings, and at 1440p 144fps for old games or lower settings, it's expensive but the monitor will outlive your gpu
Don't pay for Windows, download the USB bootable media from Microsoft website and just don't activate Windows (until you find an OEM key for $20)
>>
>>57984324
For $2600 you should be appalled that you're getting a 6700k
If you don't need a better CPU, your build can be remade for maybe $1300
>>
>>57984347
thank you
>>
>>57984361
Well with all those hard drives, maybe $1500-1600, you can still save by getting a WD blue instead of black, and digging around for better 850 evo deals (because I know they're out there), delete the 850 pro.
Don't pay for Windows and look for a cheaper case.
FOR SURE get a cheaper motherboard (you're getting Z170, probably a wifi/Bluetooth mPCIe card preinstalled, and a single PCIe x16 slot either way)
Get cheaper fans (if you even need them)
You can get a slightly cheaper psu, corsair is overpriced on PSUs
>>
>>57984162
That case is atrocious and worse, its HUGE for an itx build. Whats the point of itx if it takes up that much space? I wouldn't worry about overheating components either, 90% of that case is wire mesh.
>>
>>57984435
>>57984361
And considering the case has two 2.5" bays and two 3.5" bays, you could probably split that 4tb HDD into two cheap 2tb ones

Got a radiator and the fans that came with it are loud as ass, was going to get a pair of noctua's to replace them with (as per some friend recommendations) but I'm wondering if you guys have any other opinions/suggestions?
>>
>>57984135
its not moving the fan thats making it quieter, its just optimizing where the fans are going to do best
im just asking to see if theres a better way that would maybe let me run the fans slower with the same performance
>>
>>57984435
>>57984361
Can you remake my build please? I need something portable for around 2,700. 3,000 tops.
>>
>>57983939
lol
>>
>>57984162
Just get a single 1TB SSD... Maybe a Crucial MX300. Get an NCASE M1, it's much smaller, then swap out the GPU for a blower-style one.
Instead of wasting money on a WD Black drive, either upgrade to a 2TB SSD or buy a WD Red 8TB. WD Blacks are stupid and useless nowadays.
>>
>>57984563
This is what I would get for that kind of money, personally
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/ytfpQV
You can choose a CPU and motherboard that matches your budget though
Don't buy windows
>>
>>57984549
Just go with the one you like the most, it matters very little.
Noctua makes great fans, but if you're autistic about muh aesthetic they likely won't match much of anything in your build, or maybe you want shitty LED memes.

In the end, it doesn't matter much to performance which fans you choose. But given that you have the choice, you obviously want a static pressure optimized fan for your radiator. That and noise are about all you really have to take into consideration, and the noise can be fan controlled away.

Are slim cases practical or will they overheat under load?
I'm the 3000 ITX poster
>>
>>57985112
For the CPU it's a big possibility, maybe a locked CPU would be a good choice in those cases with so few cooling options, but the gpu side of those cases (fit with a 90° adapter) are generally seperated and have good ventilation
>>

stick to 6600k if you're just gaymen

The mobo also has m.2
Why not use that instead of a second drive
>>
>>57986586
Typically it's best to use a single drive than two. NVMe, outside of bragging rights, has very little usefullness for daily use, with only a few niche workloads making use of it. SATA over m.2 drives tend to be expensive and a bit pointless, not to mention that they're often outside the Intell storage controller.

Not really a build question but I didn't see a more appropriate thread and didnt seem like a big thing to make a thread on.

I currently already have a decent rig but wanted to get a laptop because I am often away from home. I would like to be able to play at least some basic games to keep me occupied if it comes down to it. I'm in a hotel often but don't really want to make a mini itx build to carry around. So I can either buy a new "gaymen" laptop with a 1060 in it OR I can buy a Laptop with type-c thunderbolt and a good processor and use something like the Alienware AMP to put in my 390x. Anyone with any recommendations helps.

4 way SLI or what? No matter how old this thing is gonna get, it's never gonna use 850W or anywhere close.

That's actually a pretty good deal, even if you don't know how to make use of it.

Mine has cost me upward of 2000, with everything that's in it right now, so I'm not envious or anything, but my god, how or why does someone who obviously doesn't really know what he's doing spend THAT MUCH MONEY on a PC THIS BADLY PUT TOGETHER!?
>its screwed in to the two bottom holes of the fan
WTF, seriously. Where is it supposed to direct airflow to even? I guess I'm being trolled, but after writing all this and being triggered anyway, might aswell... No you don't velcro your SSDs anywhere, your expensive high end has "Four tool-free dedicated SSD cages, sideways mounted", how you could miss that is so far beyond me I can't even.

I suggest you let a professional redo your CPU cooler before you put it under serious load, I wanna bet my left nut that you fucked up the thermal paste, and that's my favourite nut.

Cpu was overheating so I reapplied thermal paste, I just removed the heatsink from the motherboard and disconnected two chassis fans. Now I don't get signal of my monitor, PC boots up, there are no beeps and the reboot button on the case doesn't work.

What I find suspicious is the reboot button not working. Help pls

The 6500 not being a 6600k would trigger my OCD, but you're gonna be fine. Aftermarket coolers are pretty much the norm around here, but you can always add that later when you realize the stock intel cooler is loud and doesn't cool that well.

Not pc building but a problem with hardware. I was "rebuilding" my pc because i was having some issues so i thought why not take everything apart, clean and put everything back together as anything else seemed to work, so when i was gonna get my cpu out (AMD FX 8320) i lifted up the little lever and instead of just getting the cpu out it also made a "clacking" sound. My CPU seemed fine,no bent pins, no broken pins or anything but now when i try to put it back on it looks like the cpu wont "seat" in properly and the little lever doesn't seem to work like it did before. Is it possible that i fucked up my mobo's socket?

What do /g/? I dont have another am3+ mobo to test if the cpu pins are really okay.

no, but im lazy, going to tear it open to add new stuff within a week or two, and havnt used the pc enough for the PSU fan to come on, so I dont feel any rush to ziptie a couple cables that im just going to cut off in a few weeks time anyways

and I'm not married to the current arrangement of its guts, hence why im here looking for some CONSTRUCTIVE feedback

>4 way SLI or what? No matter how old this thing is gonna get, it's never gonna use 850W or anywhere close.
a second video card, a third card for rendering software in a year or two when i have extra $

PC picker said it would probably use a little under 400W, various internet guides suggested buying a psu rated double what you expect your build to consume, for errors and expansions, and the 750W and 850W psu's were the exact same price, so why not err on the side of extra caution if i can do it for free? also pic related, im not worried about paying extra on my consumers bill

>That's actually a pretty good deal, even if you don't know how to make use of it.
thanks, I planned on getting the VII hero but it was out of stock by the time I loaded the page, but the extreme assembly was still in stock, and on sale to be the exact same price, so i splurged

>WTF, seriously. Where is it supposed to direct airflow to even?
PSU fan is pointed up right at my graphics card, which has two fans pointing strait down back at the PSU's fan
My thought was to blow extra air from the front to back, so the Videocard doesnt have a stream of hot air on it directly from the psu

the velcro'ing ssd's was a joke, was hoping no one would actually suggest it
and the thermal paste is fine, I did it twice just to double check, but ive been putting thermal paste on processors since the 90's, so I'm not too worried

>>57990540
front two, intake
top 2 (and meme radiator) outake
that bugger on the bottom? its blowing backwords, takes air from the front of the case and throws it into the back
purple fan on back is outflow

so air comes in the pc's front and bottom, air exits the top and back

kinda like pic related, assuming their Psu is blowing upwards

Im here to learn, what would you do different besides killmyself and pay someone else to do it for me?
>>
>>57990682
Both the PSUs and gpus fans suck, it would be pulling against each other with the psu fan pointed up. A lot of cases have a bottom dust filter so you can mount your psu fan-down, because it sucks in fresh air and blows it out the back
>>
>>57990682
Not him, but your PSU is upside down. You have the fan downwards. The PSU fan is an intake and pushes it out the back of your case.

shit now that you mention it i do remember reading that the psu's fan is an intake
so the videocard will be fine if not even better without that extra fan down there then?
is flipping the psu again going to make a drastic impact on it?

is there any other places i should add the sixth fan to (another on the top, or partially overlapping a front one), or just keep it as a backup for when one of the stock fans breaks?

>>57990711
yes my psu is upside down, I have a cat, and tons of dust/hair in my house, so I flipped it because I was worried about clogging it on a semi-carpeted floor

Nobody is talking about permanently tying cables up but if you're too lazy to even route cables from the PSU through a grommet and then back closest to where they go, you'll probably be too lazy to do any cable management later.

It has feet, looks like it sits about an inch off of the ground, so not that great for venting out the bottom, which is why I worried about being able to use the bottom of it to vent

so wrapped cables melting together is a problem? I just assumed cable management meant reducing sources of turbulance and increasing airflow (and organization cables/stop fans from getting caught on shit)

I suppose ill just ask now where I should look for cable management tips, and save myself a couple more insults

The problem with coiled cables is with heat dispersion. If cable A and cable B are both tangled looping around each other, heat can build easily between the areas where they touch and the flow of air through the case can't easily carry it away. (You're not going to get heating via fucking induction with some haphazardly looped cables inside a PC case though, fuck no.)

Invest in a bag of assorted cable ties (and a pair of scissors if you don't have any) they work fucking wonders for cable management and anyone who claims to have good cabling without even a couple of them is either a filthy liar or has spent extra on fancier solutions. Generally just try to keep shit in sensible places, check where things go when they're plugged in, where they're coming from, where they COULD go and find good paths for them. This is where the cable ties come in handy, nearly every cable will inevitably have slack even after it's plugged in, use the ties to sort that shit out and keep dangling lengths of cable neat against unused surfaces and away from fans. Try to 'batch' cables going the same place together as well, that will make them easier to manage and guide through the case.

Personally if I were you I'd see if I couldn't remove most of that drive cage at the bottom that your SSD sitting in, either through taking sections off (it looks like one of corsairs extendable drive cage things. I just totally removed the one in my air540) or just pulling it out wholesale and finding another solid place for the SSD. That'd straight away give you a bunch more space for cables to move at the bottom.

Firstly I thank and commend you for a reply that wasnt just an insult,

Yea i have a bunch of zipties that came with various parts, I was assuming looping the cables together was similar or close to the same as "batching" the cables up, Ive been waiting to do the cabeling properly after i decide on the internal setup, kinda a measure twice, cut once type of situation

the drive cage at the bottom can be moved all the way to the front of the case(the case comes with two drive cages, both are removable), I only moved it back so Id have a place to screw in that extra fan on the bottom, which I think Im going to take out anyways.
Im debating putting the fan expansion card right above the SSD inside of the cage , or would it make sense to store the ssd in one of the empty optical disk slotsup top, so theres nothing on the bottom of my pc besides the psu?

>CPU dies are tiny, you don't need to have every single part of the surface covered in what is essentially just liquid metal
The heatspreader is a flat heat pipe you dip, at least on all the newer CPUs, not old AMDs, it's point is to quickly grab the heat from the tiny die and spread it to the other side on a larger volume for the heatsink to cool.

It's an actual active component not just a slab, having not all of it covered actually lessers cooling performance.

So I got a new case and a H115i, this is the first time I've ever had a radiotor and the first time I've ever used fan control software. Currently I'm using corsair link but I have a feeling there's probably better alternatives with greater functionality? This link shit is annoying because if I set the fans on the H115i to actually respond to the CPU temp then the fans go apeshit for a few seconds every time I do anything, but with them set to monitor the H115i temps they're fine and it doesn't seem to effect my temps at all, but when searching around I saw some people saying that's not a good thing to do because then it isn't reponding the actual temps the CPU is reaching but rather the temp of the coolant in the rad system which will always be less than the CPU itself, causing potential cooling issues under high load.

Go for the FX, more cores, ACTUAL cores, single core performance is almost the same, even today games are already optimised for 2 or more cores. Multicore performance is significantly better, you can actually leave your browser open when playing.

The FX memory performance is also way better then the i3's, specially good for games, like Fallout 4. It can actually use 1866MHz memory, the i3 is limited to 1333Mhz.

The i3 also has a on-die GPU, it's an awful CPU if you're going to use a dedicated GPU anyways.

I finally decided to get my self a new rig for entry level 3d modeling and occasional gaming. My budget is around $350. Would that be enough for a dicent Intel quadcore CPU, midrange motherboard, 8 gig of ram and ok-ish heatsink?
Any suggestions whitch CPU/motherboard/RAM should i pick?
Region: Ukraine

New PC builder here.

I'm confounded about PSU cables. Are they universal?

My new build is an NCASE M1 with a Corsair SF450.

I'd like the shortest cables possible for the case, since the packaged ones are pretty long for the NCASE and I want less cable clutter.

I haven't been able to find these cables, perhaps because they don't exist.

6 pin male to SATA power female (every single one online is SATA power male; why!?)
8 pin PCI-E male to 4 pin male (CPU)
8 pin PCI-E male to 6 pin male (for the GPU)
And finally a male-to-male Motherboard cable

Thanks.

Go for Arctic MX-4 ESPECIALLY for laptops.
1. It doesn't have a "breaking in" period so you get the full effect from the start.
2. It lasts longer than Arctic Silver
3. Probably the most important for laptops. IT'S NOT ELECTRICALLY CONDUCTIVE (unlike AC5)
>>
>>57998267
>but since that's a Z97 board, it's a PCIe Gen 2.0 4x

I haven't kept up to date to Intel jewing their boards, but I thought they used PCIE v3 ever since Ivy Bridge (aka Z77)? My Z77X definitely can do v3.
>>
>>57998295
It won't but the controllers inside the SSDs have been proven to throttle themselves if you reduce the number of lanes available to it. Most notably, all M.2 NVMe SSDs will see reduced random small file performance and increased latencies. I'm guessing that the PCIe 3.0 protocol slightly differs in their ability to manage larger number of calls through the interface or the Jewing is intense with this one.
>>
>>57998350
Literary unoticable difference, just looked up benchmarks.

Also, SSD controllers throttle because of heat and not because the bus, please don't spread bullshit.
>>
>>57998283
It's not, retard.
>>
>>57998343
All Z97 (with the exception of three from ASRock, which I'll go into detail later) use PCIe lanes from the chipset for the M.2 slot. Z87/97 chipsets only have PCIe Gen 2.0 lanes, thus nearly all Z97 boards are limited to those speeds. As of Sunrise Point chipsets, those are now PCIe Gen 3.0 lanes, thus all Z170 boards will have M.2 speeds at the full specification.

ASRock did something different by putting a PCIe-to-M.2 controller on their Extreme6 and Extreme9 boards to divert x4 lanes of Gen 3.0 directly from the CPU (normally used for graphics card) for the M.2 slot. This is branded as the Ultra M.2 on ASRock's website. Unfortunately, since it takes away 4 lanes from the 16 available from the CPU, it will prevent SLI
configuration for most modern Nvidia cards.
>>57998393
It's not bullshit. Random performance does take a hit, peak sequential performance also takes a slight hit, and latency does increase. I've run my own tests with an XP941, SM951, 950 PRO, and an OCZ RD400 on both a Z97 motherboard and an add-in card. There is a difference for all of them, although it's not by much. Don't talk shit unless you've actually tested them yourself.

No idea. Look how much space you have in your case and compare it to the cards dimensions.
Here's a B150 + 6400 + 1060 3G mini build. No idea about your case/cooling, guess it's shit so i added 2 fans: https://it.pcpartpicker.com/list/tydrqk
If your build is for gaming only you should probably get a i3 budget gaming build. It's cheaper overall or allows you to get a better GPU for the same total price.
