a couple questions
first, I've got a fury x coming in the mail after waiting weeks for my rma. Before this I had a 295x2, so pretty similar setup with a small difference. with the 295x2 I had 2 noctuas in the front pulling air in, then 2 gentle typhoons in push pull on the 295x2 rad, the 295x2 stock fan on the back as the exaust and my cryorig r1 for the cpu
now, i think im going to use the GT for intakes (r5 has a bit of limited airflow the SP takes a bit better advantage of), the stock fan on the fury x, and then a noctua for an exhaust with the cryorig still, in this kind of set up
is this the best way to go about this? i wish i could switch over to a aio on the cpu but i cant afford it right now
really just looking for silence at this point, performance is more than enough for 90% of everything i do

I basically have what you have, you can step up to gsync 1440p 144hz if you like, the 1070 can do 1440p at ~90fps for new games on ultra settings, and at 1440p 144fps for old games or lower settings, it's expensive but the monitor will outlive your gpu
Don't pay for Windows, download the USB bootable media from Microsoft website and just don't activate Windows (until you find an OEM key for $20)

Well with all those hard drives, maybe $1500-1600, you can still save by getting a WD blue instead of black, and digging around for better 850 evo deals (because I know they're out there), delete the 850 pro.
Don't pay for Windows and look for a cheaper case.
FOR SURE get a cheaper motherboard (you're getting Z170, probably a wifi/Bluetooth mPCIe card preinstalled, and a single PCIe x16 slot either way)
Get cheaper fans (if you even need them)

Got a radiator and the fans that came with it are loud as ass, was going to get a pair of noctua's to replace them with (as per some friend recommendations) but I'm wondering if you guys have any other opinions/suggestions?

Just get a single 1TB SSD... Maybe a Crucial MX300. Get an NCASE M1, it's much smaller, then swap out the GPU for a blower-style one.

Noctua makes great fans, but if you're autistic about muh aesthetic they likely won't match much of anything in your build, or maybe you want shitty LED memes.

In the end, it doesn't matter much to performance which fans you choose. But given that you have the choice, you obviously want a static pressure optimized fan for your radiator. That and noise are about all you really have to take into consideration, and the noise can be fan controlled away.

Not really a build question but I didn't see a more appropriate thread and didnt seem like a big thing to make a thread on.

I currently already have a decent rig but wanted to get a laptop because I am often away from home. I would like to be able to play at least some basic games to keep me occupied if it comes down to it. I'm in a hotel often but don't really want to make a mini itx build to carry around. So I can either buy a new "gaymen" laptop with a 1060 in it OR I can buy a Laptop with type-c thunderbolt and a good processor and use something like the Alienware AMP to put in my 390x. Anyone with any recommendations helps.

Alright. Everything else OK?

Cpu was overheating so I reapplied thermal paste, I just removed the heatsink from the motherboard and disconnected two chassis fans. Now I don't get signal of my monitor, PC boots up, there are no beeps and the reboot button on the case doesn't work.
What went wrong.??
I didn't move anything but the heatsink. Reseated the GPU and cleared CMOS battery but still no signal.
What I find suspicious is the reboot button not working. Help pls

Not pc building but a problem with hardware. I was "rebuilding" my pc because i was having some issues so i thought why not take everything apart,clean and put everything back together as anything else seemed to work, so when i was gonna get my cpu out (AMD FX 8320) i lifted up the little lever and instead of just getting the cpu out it also made a "clacking" sound. My CPU seemed fine,no bent pins, no broken pins or anything but now when i try to put it back on it looks like the cpu wont "seat" in properly and the little lever doesn't seem to work like it did before. Is it possible that i fucked up my mobo's socket?

What do /g/? I dont have another am3+ mobo to test if the cpu pins are really okay.

I have. I decided to go with the fans I did because of the way the fan hub in the NZXT cases work. The hub has this thing where if you hook up the kraken x61 to the hub, and the hub to the sys fan header, you can control everything from NZXT's CAM software in explorer. The hub takes 3-pin fans only, so that ruled out like 80% of the noctua fans that were available

My thought was to blow extra air from the front to back, so the Videocard doesnt have a stream of hot air on it directly from the psu

The problem with coiled cables is with heat dispersion. If cable A and cable B are both tangled looping around each other, heat can build easily between the areas where they touch and the flow of air through the case can't easily carry it away. (You're not going to get heating via fucking induction with some haphazardly looped cables inside a PC case though, fuck no.)

Invest in a bag of assorted cable ties (and a pair of scissors if you don't have any) they work fucking wonders for cable management and anyone who claims to have good cabling without even a couple of them is either a filthy liar or has spent extra on fancier solutions. Generally just try to keep shit in sensible places, check where things go when they're plugged in, where they're coming from, where they COULD go and find good paths for them. This is where the cable ties come in handy, nearly every cable will inevitably have slack even after it's plugged in, use the ties to sort that shit out and keep dangling lengths of cable neat against unused surfaces and away from fans. Try to 'batch' cables going the same place together as well, that will make them easier to manage and guide through the case.

Personally if I were you I'd see if I couldn't remove most of that drive cage at the bottom that your SSD sitting in, either through taking sections off (it looks like one of corsairs extendable drive cage things. I just totally removed the one in my air540) or just pulling it out wholesale and finding another solid place for the SSD. That'd straight away give you a bunch more space for cables to move at the bottom.

Yea i have a bunch of zipties that came with various parts, I was assuming looping the cables together was similar or close to the same as "batching" the cables up, Ive been waiting to do the cabeling properly after i decide on the internal setup, kinda a measure twice, cut once type of situation

the drive cage at the bottom can be moved all the way to the front of the case(the case comes with two drive cages, both are removable), I only moved it back so Id have a place to screw in that extra fan on the bottom, which I think Im going to take out anyways.
Im debating putting the fan expansion card right above the SSD inside of the cage , or would it make sense to store the ssd in one of the empty optical disk slotsup top, so theres nothing on the bottom of my pc besides the psu?

The heatspreader is a flat heat pipe you dip, at least on all the newer CPUs, not old AMDs, it's point is to quickly grab the heat from the tiny die and spread it to the other side on a larger volume for the heatsink to cool.

It's an actual active component not just a slab, having not all of it covered actually lessers cooling performance.

So I got a new case and a H115i, this is the first time I've ever had a radiotor and the first time I've ever used fan control software. Currently I'm using corsair link but I have a feeling there's probably better alternatives with greater functionality? This link shit is annoying because if I set the fans on the H115i to actually respond to the CPU temp then the fans go apeshit for a few seconds every time I do anything, but with them set to monitor the H115i temps they're fine and it doesn't seem to effect my temps at all, but when searching around I saw some people saying that's not a good thing to do because then it isn't reponding the actual temps the CPU is reaching but rather the temp of the coolant in the rad system which will always be less than the CPU itself, causing potential cooling issues under high load.

Go for the FX, more cores, ACTUAL cores, single core performance is almost the same, even today games are already optimised for 2 or more cores. Multicore performance is significantly better, you can actually leave your browser open when playing.

The FX memory performance is also way better then the i3's, specially good for games, like Fallout 4. It can actually use 1866MHz memory, the i3 is limited to 1333Mhz.

The i3 also has a on-die GPU, it's an awful CPU if you're going to use a dedicated GPU anyways.

It's not bullshit. Random performance does take a hit, peak sequential performance also takes a slight hit, and latency does increase. I've run my own tests with an XP941, SM951, 950 PRO, and an OCZ RD400 on both a Z97 motherboard and an add-in card. There is a difference for all of them, although it's not by much. You have to change it to AHCI manually.
They appear as Legacy because compatibility reasons.

Beware when changing your boot drive, you need to boot Windows in safe-mode first and change the registry to AHCI before changing the settings in BIOS/EFI.
