What I want to know is, will I run into error messages all the time even with no additional packages installed (like I did when I was forced to install 16.04 on my work PC) or have those bugs been fixed, at least? Otherwise I'll just stick to comfy old Xubuntu 14.04 with i3.

Is it just me or does Arch use more ram than other distros? With just a window manager open, it's using 400 megs. On slackware with the same setup I was at 260 megs. That's a nearly 100% increase!

I need some help bros!

I've ordered a new SSD drive and it will arrive tomorrow and I plan on putting just the Arch on it. No Winshit of any kind. I have a spinning rust disk right now with Win7+Arch on it but was never really happy with organization. I have some questions:

1) What's the best way to organize partitions? I'd like to have /, swap and /home all on SSD. Is there a point in separating / from /home if they're on the same disk?

2) Should /swap be before or after / in the partition table? i.e. which one should be created first?

3) I have 16GB of RAM. is 16GB swap OK or should I add more to it?

4) grub... I have grub on HDD right now. If I install it on SSD, can I still boot partitions from different disks (i.e. can I boot from old HDD)?

Sorry for so many questions but I've never dealt with this shit and don't wanna fuck it up.

You can reinstall the OS quite easily, should you ever need to, even switching to another distro will work fine.

Probably doesn't really matter, my swap is after / though.

16 GB swap is okay, and you only ever need it with 16 GB of RAM if you want to hibernate. If you don't want to hibernate, don't bother with swap at all.

Creating a seperate home is good for if you need to reinstall. I personally just have /boot, swap and /. If you're using UEFI you need to make a fat32 partition on /boot, using mkfs.vfat. 16GB of swap is fine. You'd probably be fine with less. Some people don't use it anymore at all. It's up to you. To boot from seperate disks, you use your BIOS. Just press F12 and choose the disk.

I have an Nvidia card with nvidia binary driver installed. Whenever I wake up computer from sleep, the whole screen goes haywire and I can't do anything but hit the reset button. The only "solution" is to shut down the computer and then start it up.

Anyone know what's causing this? I can't be the only one with this issue. It's driving me nuts because I have to close everything all the time.

PS: I used to use iGPU for display but after I upgraded my monitor, iGPU doesn't even support resolutions I need so I had to switch.

What are some distros that people recommend, my main system runs Fedora but its giving me the impression that its about to fully shit the bed (as in sometimes I have to restart multiple times for everything to work) and I'm getting the itch to distro hop again.
