The HHKB 1 used an ABS case, but the Pro 2 uses a PBT case so it should yellow a lot less. Searching around shows that most HHKB Pro 2 users don't complain about yellowing, even after a few years of usage.

I'm not the one with a yellow case. Besides my model M still looks great and its from 1988. Though right now I'm using a ducky keyboard for those sweet macros
>>
>>57964799
Generally, yellowing of ABS plastic depends on condition. You can easily find the same keyboard massively yellowed and not yellowed at all. He might have kept it in extreme conditions, for all we know.

...Is there any keyboard with a white plastic non-ABS case, anyway?
>>
>>57964833
>He might have kept it in extreme conditions

spain = sun

if he has a desk in front of a window, it's very easy to yellow it in 4 years.
>>
>>57964845
Indeed - which is why keyboards kept in office environments (aka. typically) don't yellow anywhere near as much. We cannot treat an outlier as the rule.

Keyboard makers put coatings on their keyboards to prevent the yellowing, but those coatings aren't smooth and glossy so for aesthetic reasons they don't include them

Would recommend anyone do this mod btw if they love the feel of a model F but hate the layout. It's basically a Model F inside a Model M SSK TKL case. You can make it using an old full sized model M so you don't have to sacrifice your original SSK internals!

I really want some dyesub ISO in Cherry or OEM profile. I've seen like 3 buys this year get incredibly close, but no dice.

On the plus side, NPKC now makes ~$25 PBT sets with ISO keys in like 12 colors so I've ordered some for another keyboard.

Got my order of feelios+aristotles+zealencios in. The smoothness of feelios is no joke. Can also confirm that they don't wobble any more than my MX clears (or at least that it isn't noticeably more).

The stock aristotle housings are hot shit though. Transplanting them into MX housings makes a huge difference.

The zealencios are exactly what you'd expect. Dampening the upstroke of the switch is nice. Not nearly as mushy as I remember o-rings being. Also makes SA caps sound closer to the topre thock on my board at least.

Hi /mkg/ after a bit of lurking i have decided I will ask you all for advice with regards to the switches.

I have been thinking of buying a meme-chanical board for quite some time but I really cannot decide on the switch type that I want.
I have only every tried the cherry reds/ logitech orion-g and razer green switches. I didnt really like either of those and im looking for some reference information so i can decide which of those might be the best option so correct me if im wrong:

If i understand correctly, the logitech orion-g switches are somewhat like browns, but a bit less tactile.
The razer greens are just a lighter and quiter versions of mx blues?
Reds are just a simple linear gaymur switch.

Since I didnt like any of the above switches and I want something good for typing and casual gaming thats not too loud, am I right to assume that clears will be the best option for me?

you clearly haven't lurked enough.
>>
>>57970882
people usually recommend mx browns as the best starting switch

cherry mx clears are basically mx browns except they require a greater force to activate the switch

if you are a "heavy typist" odds are you will constantly be bottoming out the browns, so clears would be a better choice

Short-throw switch used in compact-layout keyboards. It was previously thought to exist only in a 55cN weight; however, this assumption was based on measurements gathered or guessed at by users. The only known cited force measurement is '40±15%' which presumably means 40 grams with a 15% margin of error

>end game beam spring

I got to try one converted for USB. They block keystrokes if you type too quickly, and I don't mean like a 2KRO keyboard might because you're holding several keys down. A beamspring board literally refuses to register any two keys pressed too closely together. Also the key stays pressed for a fraction of a second even after you let go of it so it's impossible to play most games on one.

It actually worked out pretty well. I am still considering a customized casing and haven't decided on the coloring yet. Also a few keys will be spray painted by me.

When it is finished I will post no pictures, because muh secrecy, but I really made the best keyboard imaginable with just a few tricks. It's mindblowing.

It's really really good and something that was never seen before.
For a reason, I guess.

However I am still facing a few typos here and there, this makes the overall experience a bit less good than it seems, as I cannot truly tell why these typos happen - I always proofread and still I see typos in my posts. Weird, but not that surprising, maybe I just need some more caffeine - not on the keyboard of course.

Thanks /mkg/, you were a great inspiration.

They're a blob? That's how a map looks if you "pixelate" it directly. I take it you haven't dealt with much low resolution stuff.

Thanks dude. I ended up buying the Ducky TKL RGB. I'm not a fan of the LEDs but they didn't have any other good ducky tkl keyboard, and the older version was only 10€ cheaper, so I opted for the newest one w/ RGB.

Now, time to get me some keycaps.

Any recommendations for ISO layouts?

I don't know if they're shit, but yeah I just might. Are those models good?

Any recommendation for wrist rests?

I've been running Grifiti Fat pads for a couple of years now and they're great, but I'm curious if there is a more popular brand in /mkg/ due to the quality or something.

So close.
>>
>>57982578
easy on the guns man you are not at school
>>
>>57982624
You really shouldn't be resting your wrists when typing, instead you should hover your hands over the keyboard, otherwise just use a soft towl
>>
>>57982665
hold up for a second there m8

it's so much healthier for your wrists using a wrist rest than using force to push up your hands while typing

regardless, I still game as well as type, so long hours of comfort are a must.

How much would you pay for a Model M without a cable and how easy it is to solder in a ps/2 cable?
>>
>>57982696
I don't live in a filterbubble that tries to make me believe lies. So yeah, it's basically the first time I see something like that.
>>
>>57982680
no you are supposed to rest your arms, then let your hand hover a bit over the keyboard, but not everyone can do that.
>>
>>57982712
>solder in a ps/2 cable
you can get a goodone for around 50-150 USD
but if you get one with an AT cable make sure you get a new ps/2 cord
>>
>>57982712
Model M's have a detachable cable, so you can just make one from old hardware you don't use and plug it in or just buy one, or you can buy a unicomp model m with usb or ps/2, but the cable isn't detectable.
Used model Ms sell for around 80 bucks, but since it doesn't have the cable maybe you can get it for 60
>>
>>57982712
it seems like you dont know shit about the model m
go watch this
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ae-8GdSJTX8
>>
>>57982722
Has nothing to do with a "filterbubble". It's just an nonexaggerated pixlaized world map. Pretty common thing in the 80s/90s.
>>
>>57982816
I've seen quite a few maps in school where Germany was still split into 2 countries. I'd call those history books from which we learned from filterbubble as well. They usually portrayed the russians as evil and the americans as the savious.

Really makes you hate america when you start thinking on your own.
>>
>>57982857
Well that comes from living in a non free country.
>>
Looking for a cheap Chinese TKL keyboard with dedicated F-Keys and Blue knock-off switches. Backlit preferred, for around $40-60USD.

Currently looking at the Eagle Z-77, but wanted a second opinion on what the best cheap-o board was right now.
>>
>>57982897
It's the opposite, it's a free country, but there is no mentioning of free people. The equivalent to "the land of the free" (USA) in germany is "Deutschland ist ein freies Land", which translates to "germany is a free country".

At least we've got freedom printed on our money. Murricans have to trust god, we trust freedom.
>>
>>57982910
Tomoko can be had for under 40 bucks

I think my question was not accurate. I mean, I have an estimation of how much Model Ms go for locally, I just wanted to know how by how much could I haggle the price down considering that the seller tells me he has no cable for it.

My other question was: (I know perfectly well what type of cables the Model M's used..) How easy would it be to take a random ps/2 cable from another keyboard, cut it in half, open up the Model M and solder the cable end to the board so that I don't have to get an SDL ended cable.

Getting rid of the detachable cable would be a downgrade, but you could haggle the guy down to 60 bucks depending on the condition, or 40 if he doesn't know anything about it.
