Buy pic related for wait for OP4?

OnePlus is notorious for only providing one major android update to their flagships. I'm worried if this phone will become obsolete 6 months later when they release OP4. Can we expect Android 8 on this phone? Or am I better off waiting 6 months to get a OP4 which will ship with 7 out of the box and get an update to 8.
>>
Id personally wait for the OP4, maybe they'll treat us with something nice like an sd slot
>>
>>57960318
Considering there's a 128GB variant I doubt you'd need an SD card slot.

I got him some 598's last year. I'm set on a phone he has a shitty moto e 2nd edition and I'd like to get him something that's a bit better.
>>
>>57960599
Get the Moto G4 play. You can get it for $100 with Amazon ads enabled but I'm sure someone on XDA has posted a fix for that.

I personally am also using a Moto E2 LTE and planning on buying a OP3T.
>>
>>57960293
I'm waiting for mine to get shipped. Personally, with OxygenOS behaving and looking like it does, the only thing I'm concerned is security updates. I don't see Android 8 or 9 bringing the ICS levels of "whoa, that's new and cool, I must have it!". I hope I'm wrong, but I doubt it.

TL;DR If you can afford it and you're coming from a 2/3-year-old device, buy it.

what's a good android phone for around $900 that has:
>root access
>headphone jack
>sd slot
>no invasive bloat (optional, I think google has infiltrated everything)
>nice mid sized screen
>at least 1 GHz single-core

Going to use it for handheld emulation.
I was looking specifically at HTC but I got lost.

Eh, i always wear this sturdy case as of recently because of my work. There's a big chance of hitting my phone with some sharp angle when lifting heavy objects. Not sure about the screen, find it kind of overkill for a object you use on daily basis. With each layer you remove some comfort of using the device.
>>
>>57960402
it's a good idea imho, because if your phone fall to the ground, a glass screen protector can be a bless. Do you prefer to break a 10$ screen protector or your phone screen?

Entry level specs, good camera, average battery, great design, fuckhuge, I'd say get it if you can't get anything else better for $200 (protip: there's no better phone for that price that isn't imported from somewhere), don't fall for the chinkphone/zukk meme, go for the superior japanese phone optimized over a thousand times by superior nipponese developers.

Samsung is going downhill, don't expect the note 8 to be anything but a earjack-less, sd slot-less, bezel-less, 2500 mAh failure, and that's if they even continue making note phones after their massive fuck up for skimping out on batteries in order to scam the white goyim out of a few more shekels.

Tempered glass screen protectors are absolutely necessary. I try to get all of my friends and family to buy them too. It's only $5-$10, is almost completely invisible when applied properly, and can save you hundreds.

I've seen way too many broken iPhones. It even saved my Oneplus One a couple times. The rest of the phone may be banged up, but the screen is still pristine.

The zuk is still better though if you're satisfied with 64GB eMMC.

Galaxy Avant as my primary phone
Bought bastex 2400 battery for it, my phone's battery is needing to be replaced.

Have my old first phone, Galaxy Admire (really shit phone overall running 2.1 android and <400mb ram) battery dies at "50%"

Should I spend $7 on a battery for my galaxy admire to use as a dedicated gba emulator and media player in general?

More importantly is it worth it? Idk desu, thanks

The 3T just came out. Why would you need to wait for the next model? When the 4 comes out will you be back asking "so should I get the 4 or wait for the 4T?"

The 3T is a great phone, and the start of a phone's life is the correct time to buy it. And when a model is good, grab it with both hands - there's every chance they'll fuck up the next one like they did with the OP2, then you'll be back to waiting to see if they regain their sanity when they make the OP5.

I don't know about best.
OP3 is lacking in lots of ways, music quality both from jack and speakers is mediocre, the camera is years behind the latest top tier stuff, the screen kind of sucks, OnePlus' customer service is notoriously shit, and it doesn't really have any extra features at all. You get a Snapdragon 821 with good build, software, and ROM support and that's about it. No SD slot, no removable battery, no waterproofing, no ir port, no USB 3.0, etc.

OP keeps slowly jacking up the price on their shit too, $430 is nearly 50% more expensive than the $299 the OPO launched at 2 years ago. $430 is getting pretty close to being able to get a much higher quality phone like the HTC 10 or Galaxy S7 for a bit more.

Barely any phones have front facing speakers today and the earpiece speaker thing is pretty new. If you really wanted the earpiece to functions as a speaker just install Viper for android. Plus, no one cares about front facing speakers.

Regardless of less useful features...

It's the most open and the most powerful phone in its price range. The devs literally let you root and unlock it. Hell they almost endorse it. There's instructions for twrp installations on the official OP website for fucks sake.

It's the most stable phone I've ever owned. It hardly gets hot, easily charges faster than the drain of GPS and is usb-c.

I dont know much about phones, but something seems off.
I had to get a new phone the other day. Its a samsung j3 6.
I fully charged it this morning and half an hour later it went from 100% to 96%.
I went to sleep and woke up and now its at 9% battery left.

I checked the battery screen, and it only lists basic shit, and is only accountable for 20% of the used battery.

is there some sort of break in period with phone batteries or is the bloat really that bad?
>>
>>57991106
In my experience some Samsung phones are just shit.

Get a refund because that is a broken product. It happened to me also with older S5 Neo. It's a stock rom related bug in some models, it also gets worse after a while, my phone used to empty the battery in under 2 hours without any extra apps installed.

Android updates don't mean anything except they are "new". They improve no functionality, add no security and are purely decorative.

I've got the HTC One Max (the large variant of the HTC One series). So far it seems like they aren't going to be making another phone this size, what would be a good upgrade? My 4 year old phone is hardly supported by anything, especially since I use the sprint variant.

Nah.

iPhone is still great, but Samsung S7E or google pixel are the best currently

Mi mix?

There will never be a passport with android. That said, they will release one last keyboard phone next quarter which will use android

Calm down dude. It was an honest question. Never heard of zuk before whereas Xiaomi is well known, it's natural to ask whether they will both get updates. I have no stake either way
>>
>>57998160
Yeah, I had the oneplus one since launch. I was gonna get the 3t, but I wanted ip68 and sd card. Also a tad better screen.

It's usable. I can actually use all apps I need.
I was using a 512mb RAM oladass LG phone when my screen was broken for a week and while travelling I couldn't even use Uber because the app crashed, and I had to delete apps to install other ones etc. It was unbelievably painful to use and not being able to use Uber actually hitted my wallet because taxis are expensive AF.
My current phone is a E975 and i'm on Nougat, pretty stable, does all I need, Tinder works on it (And 80% of the girls I made out with this last year I've met on it).
IM apps are really useful too etc but that's expected for anyone in the 21st century I guess.

I bought s7e because its under $500 and going to get nougat soon so it's getting quite a bit better in near future. S8 going to be $800 for sure and s7e being quite good it was pretty easy choice for me.

Predicament.

Which phone do I go for?

Honor 8? Zuk z2 pro? RN3P? OP3T?
>>
>>58001301
What does it say under "Screen", you dumbest of fucks? Certainly not 8 hours. Who gave you a fucking brain?
>>
Thinking of getting a new phone soon. Old one is a galaxy s6 edge. It works well for the stuff I use it for, browsing, youtube, and file storage, but new programs keep popping up after updates like this Peel Smart Remote garbage. I disabled it so it stopped sending random notifications, but I'd prefer if my next phone didnt do that bullshit. Also, the charger port is kind of janky and keeps re-recognizing that it's being charged when i move it.

What kind of phone should I get if I want to prioritize build quality and minimize involuntary bloatware?
>>
>>57964864
Thank god I hope they keep getting smaller.
>>
>>57998148
Moto E?
>>
>>58003117
Honor 8 or zuk z2 pro.

Honor has better camera, zuk is better everything else.
Difference isn't great though so go with whichever you prefer. Honor should be a tiny bit cheaper too. Get the zuk if you want AMOLED, I almost forgot it has that.

Riddle me this:
http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=Linux-4.9-Staging-Pull
Google's project Ara is supposedly scrapped, but Greybus, the thing that would make Ara work, still got into Linux kernel.
And GregKH says that Motorola will use that shit.
Does that mean that we will get to see Ara-like project after all?
Because that makes me hyped for optional physical keyboard.
I'm still on HTC Desire Z because of it, because hipsters and homos took that option away from me by wanting thin phones instead of functional phones.
>>
Just picked up a X compact for $280, how bad did I fuck up?

Don't listen to these faggots. Had my G3 since launch, soft bricked it plenty of times and it's running CM13 perfectly. Best phone I've ever owned and still btfo of phones today.

You oppo cucks and shills are as bad as iPhone users anymore
>>
>>58004751
not that bad, good price, remember it's a mid range phone on a good day disguised as the good old compact series. Don't drop it in water, it has some sort of waterproofing but not even Sony is betting on that on the marketing so most probably it sucks.
>>
Does anyone reckon the Mi 5 will drop below $217 US any time soon? Geekbuying is selling them at 217 but I'm scared that next week there'll be some massive sale.
>>
>>57960402
the only one ive ever used was liquid armour, even tho i have to get it every like year, its worth it. You can get them from staples :^)
>>
>>58005006
Why buy the mi5 when the zuk z2 is cheaper and better?

Or better yet, why not just step up to an honor 8, zuk z2 pro, or 1+3t instead if you're willing to spend that much just go a little more and get much better devices.
>>
>>57962505
screen protector is $8 also legit parts if you need any replacements

Redmi note 4.

The answer is always xiaomi. But make sure to buy the latest so you're getting the best updates first. Redmi note 3 isn't even getting os updates anymore.

Don't listen to the cumguzzler above. get the Moto G4.

I came from a one+ one and got my 3t last monday, My opo could have lastede a lot longer desu, they do give official support for 2 years but the ROM scene is so big even the OPO will be updated for a few more years at least.

I'm still using my old lumia 920. I really like it desu the only problem is the battery life. I don't need apps other than the basic but I've already decided to go android next.

I want my phone to be fast and reliable, I don't mind paying and typically look for high-end models as I only get a new one every 4-5 years.

My friends have suggested the nexus and the oneplus 3(?). I personally really like the look and VR capabilities of the S6 edge. Does the special screen come with drawbacks? Does it break easy? Any suggestions on what to get? Battery life is important as is screen and audio quality because I like to watch youtube videos.
