Anyone with first-hand experience wearing Momentum 2.0? Is the sound/build quality worth the price tag and having to look like a hipster (strictly for outside use) or should I just get some IEM, if so, which?

While at it, what's a good portable player with a reasonable price tag? FiiO X1/3? Something with great battery life and sound quality, and no, I'm not going to glue a portable DAC to it or anything autistic of the sort.

>Type of headphone

Closed
>Comfort level
High, obviously, but an important aspect is a snug fit with little or no movement. The reviews for the AKG K553 Pro make them sound loose on most people's heads so I'd like to avoid that if true.
>Sound signature
Neutral is preferred as long as the bass will stay tight if I choose to boost it a little. I could probably do V-shaped as well.
>Past headphones
All Sony earbuds. Most recent are XBA-H1's, which have great mids and highs but are lacking low-end imo
>>
>>57951549
Basically, you want to plug in USB, you can use the PC or a charger to power it. Then you need signal, so hook it up to the PC via the SPDIF or coax. You'll then connect the speakers to the RCA or 3.5 headphone out.

Make sure you mainboard is set to use the digital out, and turn off any effects if you have them enabled.
>>
>>57951594
ws99 literally

no really, if you want more bass, V shape it. With god sound

Eh, I have HM5 pads I can take of other headphones if it comes to it. As long as they fit I should be okay in that regard.

Bassy for the most part. They're for portable use so details/top shelf sound quality arent highest priority.
>Past headphones
Too many to list. Fairly irrelevant since none of them really relate to this anyway.

Again, emphasis on the foldable thing. I want to be able to chuck them in the front pocket of my hoodie when I'm not using them.

Detachable wire is a must, foldable would be nice, but not that important. I'm very happy with the sound of my Sennheiser 201S, but they're wearing out and I'd like something with the detachable cord.
>>
>>57951900
>>57952020
Why?

What is "shilling" by your definition? I just showing my devotion towards these headphones. Now, not only they are perfectly in control with every type of music, they really good with certain songs they can fit for. Depends on the type of music really. They will not fulfill nigger lovers because they lack the boominess, for example

Like vice, perfect loud bright/sparkle but with more bass, just sound really fucking orgasmic.

With proper ampping/EQ whatever they will sound good as well.

This bass ''buzzword'' is really annoying. Bass IS good, it's good when it's controlled and ready to kick in. ws99 perfectly performs most of those tasks.

Maybe you are just having a little shittaste and that's why.
>>
>>57952222
>Detachable wire is a must
have a look at the 668b
I'm not sure if it's what you'd call high comfort, but it's a good pair and it has a detachable cable

don't know a better detachable cable pair in that range

they're semi open, but they're pretty quiet, unless someone is sitting next to you, they most likely won't hear
it lets practically all the sound in though, so if that's why you need closed I don't know

Most DA-converters on the market do not support DSD nor does a lot of audio playback software. The ones that do often require you to install separate drivers and use audio APIs other than the native on your operating system. The format is a chore to use on most gear and limits you from using any kind of digital signal processing(such as EQ or a volume mixer). All this for absolutely no benefits. The only reason to use DSD I can think of would be if a piece of music you want is only released in that format.

>>
>>57953141
>advantage
Mostly fluff, in practice none over high resolution PCM even if you look at the sound quality aspect alone and forget the things which complicate its usage in practice.

It's one bit audio at extreme sampling rates. Because of the high sampling rates and noise shaping you have a high bit depth within the audio band(below 20 KHz). It isn't higher than high resolution PCM(for example 96/24), actually has lower resolution and creates a rather extreme amount of noise which is simply pushed above 20 KHz and then cut off by low pass filter in order to protect "downstream" gear like amplifiers and loudspeakers. There's absolutely no audible advantage here just like there isn't at anything above CD quality(Redbook) audio which is 44.1/16 PCM.

Assuming that I use quality headphones and pretty much exclusively listen to 320kbps mp3s, is there any reason that I would want to get a "high-end" DAP like an Astell&Kern or Lotoo Paw Gold if I only cared about sound quality from the DAP?

I'm currently on a Fiio X1, and I can't believe that there's some magic snake oil that significantly colors or otherwise alters the sound coming from a digital source. It's that pleb buying the HD800's from eBay.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SALE-Sennheiser-HD-800-Dynamic-Open-Back-Stereo-Headphones-HD800-/301974474741?hash=item464f14cff5

I asked if their items are genuine and unopened, partly for peace of mind but mostly to cover my back in case something goes wrong I have evidence to send to eBay in a dispute.

'Yes all our items are 100% brand new and genuine in original box packaging.

Items will be dispatched from the UK and there won't be any import duties/taxes when it arrives.

Kindly note

Thanks!'

They are quite obviously not native English speakers though, as their copy of my message had shit like '寄件者' in the title. I can believe they dispatch from Europe but they are most certainly Hong Kong based. Unless you ask for it they send their items uninsured, obviously I'm not retarded enough to spend that much on eBay shit and not insure it so I'm waiting back to see how much that will cost then I'm just going to buy them.

Hope it isn't a house brick in a Sennheiser box when it arrives.

Is it even a big deal if it doesn't have it? Sennheiser don't even seal their boxes so I don't even understand the point of it, I could take any genuine Sennheiser box and throw a fake pair in there.
>>
>>57962244

I have those, very warm sounding, i like them a lot, actually makes me think of getting a X2 or a HD650 in the future.
Pads are as comfortable as it gets, headband could be a bit more comfortable as it can hurt your head after a few hours, but this depends on how you regulate the size of the headband too.
>>
>>57962602
what type of music do you produce with them?
would you recommend them for producing techno/house music?
did you amp them?
is a dac+amp a plus to use them for producing with them?

Thanks a lot /hpg/

It does have a passthrough, and I don't really like in-ears, that's why I'm looking for headphones.
>>
>>57963359
by the way, why open, wouldn't closed be better since you'll be more immersed?

but yeah there's not many light good headphones
m40x is 240 grams, I really doubt you'll find anything decent that's lighter
>>
>>57963424
I want open because while in VR I still want to hear everything that's around me, I don't know why but it feels better that way.

Weight-wise I tried the ATH-T200, and they felt way lighter. Maybe it's juste the overall comfort that made them feel lighter
>>
>>57963578
those are 210

every pair I checked was heavier than the m40x tho, so yeah, rippo
>>
Can i ask about speakers here since there's no dedicated thread?

I'm looking for something for my bedroom which is rather small (3.5x3.5 m) and im not sure whether to go mono or stereo. I've already got hs8's in my studio / office so I'm not looking for anything crazy here. Currently using a clock radio which is technically stereo (the speaker are so close it might as well be mono) but its not cutting it when it comes to the low end or clarity. Price i guess is up to $300 but I'm open to higher or lower
>>
>>57960725
I personally prefer pleather over hybrids for both comfort and sound on my m40x.

I don't get this meme. Why do "audiophiles" only like treble?
>>
>>57964948

The sound improves, if you want to hear all the microdetails yes, but truly about like 30% and only with music that is uncompressed and was recorded with a lot of details and with high dinamics, almost all the songs i have dont improve too much, i have a hd598se and the hd600 sound similar, hd600 better but you might have to look for better music/files
>>
>>57964948
>Is the difference that great?
I own both, well, I own a HD558 and HD650, but the two are broadly similar. I guess it depends what you are doing with it, for games the HD558 is really just as good, for music the HD650 takes a pretty healthy shit on it. The two actually sound pretty damn similar in terms of character, at least to my ears, but the HD650 has a certain cleanliness and complexity to its sound that the HD558 just can't live up to. Both have no bass though.

Both are totally fine without an amp in my opinion too, I wouldn't even bother with an amp for the HD558.

The v6/7506 have one of the best bass for a closed can, if you dont want highs just EQ them, if you turn up the volume without EQ then of course you'll think they are extremely bright

theirs better offerings for the price.

But theirs a good reason those have been the industry standard for almost 20 years.

You litterally cannot go wrong with them.

I personally recommend you grab a pair of ATH-m50 velour ear pads for them (they're on massdrop atm)

makes them so comfy without altering their sound.
>>
>>57965332
Sorry for the stupid question but I'm not that much into audio (I've had a pair of m50xs for nearly 3 years now), but is there a notable difference between the 80ohm and 250ohm edition?

Regardless of what you run it from. I mean, like, the quality itself.
>>
>>57965368
no
if you have an amp it might be like 1-5% better
>>
>>57965360

You dont have to, the bass is pretty much fine as it is, if you want it to go boomy then without EQ youll obviously would find them too bright. The m40x and hm5 are more bass centred

Although, I bought plenty of items from UK and all around Europe and I didn't get any additional taxes.

Nice quads.

Where are you from? The seller is a business and they say they are based in the UK, but the papal receipt leads to a shop in Italy. if it says its shipping from UK on ebay then ebay will refund you if you get VAT'd.
though I find it unlikely that you will, considering a shop selling shit that expensive is probably not lying to ebay.

I produce trap music, i've made a few house songs on them as well. They have very accurate bass levels and great clarity between different instruments which make them ideal for music production. In my defense its almost certainly not the kind you're thinking about. Many of my tracks have live instruments sampled in along with things like piano breakdowns which i compose and perform myself. The only reason i call it trap is because the drum patterns/808 basslines draw heavily from trap/hip-hop influence.

Hd558 is very much tge same as the hd598 and should cost the same, the 598 could cost up to 10-20 more because the materials are a little better, the SE have 2 cables 1.2mt and 3mt so you get the extra one
>>
>>57966537
I take back my question. What's the difference between the Cs version that's on sale right now vs. the special edition?

The SE are identical to the normal 598's. Only difference is colour.

>>
>>57966654
So I understand most of the concepts and terminology, but how does a pair is headphones go from regarded as pretty good to garbage with nothing changed except going from open to closed?
>>
>>57966683
Closed is not a requirement. I only wear headphones when at home. They just seemed like a decent enough deal to warrant a look.
>>
>>57966686
Because you introduce many factors like reflection/reverberation, proper sealing and porting, along with extra needs for dampening when you make an open headphone closed.
>>
>>57966707

Open usually has better soundstage and separation, great for gaming, and imo better sound, the drawback is no isolation, look for the sph9500 or the hd558 these fit your budget

>>
>>57967153
Superlux really doesnt make anything worthwhile other than the cheap gear. They're a good company, bit for anything more than $50 you should be looking elsewhere.

Here are some suggestions if you like their open design.

DT 880/990 - A lot more durable, highs are aggressive similar to 681's. Low end is more present than 681's. 990's moreso. Top tier build. I'd suggest these as a direct upgrade to the superlux.

AT ADX series [500x,700x, 1000x, 2000x] - All fairly bright, similar to 681's. Impeccable imaging. God tier for vidya.

SHP 9500 - Cheaper than other suggestions. Flat, with slightly more present highs. Build is great.

HD 558/598 - Warmer and more calm sounding. Great soundstage. Mids are eleveated, both low and highs are rolled off. [less so with the highs on the 598] Build is okay.
>>
>>57967451

>>
>>57967436

>LCD-2 is known for its bass among open backs

>>
>>57967476
Holy hell, thanks anon. I'll look into those. Also, is second hand buying of headphones alright or is it something I want to avoid?
>>
>>57967739
Secondhand buying is awesome.

Most audiophiles take good care of their headphones, so you get something thats in very good shape.

the worst I encountered required me buying new earpads, which was still way less than I would have spent for a new pair.

just make sure to get pictures to see that they're in good shape and are functional.
>>
>>57967739
Second hand is fine. As long as you listen to them and confirm they're not fake sounding, or dirty as fuck, you dont have much to worry about. Maybe wipe them down with spirits or something similar if you're concerned. Earpads can be replaced so its rarely an issue either way.

And meet in a library or something similar so you can actually sit down in peace. I've had people try to talk me into trading for open backs and meeting in the middle of the city outside a station. Didn't want to take that route at all.

Second hand is a great way to get cheap shit. Especially due to how a lot of 'audiophiles' are never satisfied, so they go through a lot of headphones.

IEMs you don't really want to buy second hand unless you bring a cleaning agent and spare tips. Even then its a bit eh.
>>
>>57967661
>but the bass isn't there.
And you are I'll informed to think replacing and amplifier is going to help at anything here. Stop before you do something stupid and seek a real solution for a lack of bass. Replacing "upstream" gear is not going to do jack if you already have a shit ass guard.
