I'm surprised nobody has been talking about all the shit that has been happening over at libble.

So how many of you actually care about content? I think we've all learned that single point of failure trackers like WCD are terrible for archiving content. Out of all the trackers I'm on I've identified a few that are of high risk of possibly losing content forever (or making it prohibitively expensive to get the content again):

-PTP: Particularly it's collection of ISOs for DVDs/Blu-Ray. HD movies are spread far and wide, but there are also some SD movies that may be unique to PTP

-KG: This would probably be the single worst tracker to go down. The content on this tracker is so rare there may be no other copy that exists, even at studios/content creators. KG going down would probably be the single largest loss to the community that I can imagine.

-BTN: a lot of SD TV that you just can't find in other places, and probably is not sold anymore. This would be the second worst thing to happen to the community if it went down.

-bib: a lot of retail books, but those are all currently being sold so it would be possible to rebuild bib after some time. However some of the scanned books may be ultra rare, I have not had the time to look through the site enough to tell.

It's widely accepted among ITK librarians that KG is probably one of the most important film archives on the planet.

Sites that serve niche content are likely to be the greatest loss in terms of content. There's not much that doesn't exist in other formats elsewhere in sites like PTP and BTN, cabal as they are. Trackers like CCC, DB9, Myspleen, SC and TVKEK are more important. I have some stuff that I downloaded from TB.bz and UKNova 1.0 that still hasn't been re-uploaded anywhere else.

To add, there are other small music tracker which have quite a few rare originals on that might not have made it to What. Shellife, IT, Kraytracker, etc. There was definitely some loss when Elek went down a few years ago (although they did have lots of generic scene releases).

There's also some rarer content buried in the radio section of MyA. I also believe there's some stuff that hasn't resurfaced anywhere that was on radioarchive.cc when it went down.

the logchecker for WCD was closed source, no one really knew what the code looked like. rumor was it was just a bunch of regex fuckery, followed by more regex fuckery to detect known methods of gaming the logchecker

these sites are building theirs from absolute scratch; it's not a part of gazelle. it's going to take time. shit's gonna suck for a while. it's just the fact that both pth and apl have the same problem

it'd be nice if they could collaborate their efforts on it, but we all know that will never happen
