Yes. Whether you prefer a vinyl source or a CD source or a WEB source is, again, completely subjective.

Everyone has their biases. My bias is towards a clean rip, rather than one with "imperfections" such as pops or warping you might find with an average vinyl rip. Some people prefer the imperfections, so they go for vinyl rips. In my experience, a very good vinyl rip, where the ripper has quality equipment and takes time to clean the record and remove pops/clicks after recording, is on par with a CD rip or WEB-sourced material. However, such quality for vinyl rips isn't nearly as common because it actually takes work to make a good vinyl rip, whereas with digital you just set things up correctly (EAC, transcoding WAV->FLAC) and it's pretty much automatic. So I go for the FLAC rip, because aside from transcodes, I can be assured that it's the same as what was on the CD.

For albums that were made before CDs existed the original vinyls are usually better than the CD rips. Post CD stuff is often mastered from the the CD masters... Garbage. That's not always true but it quite often is. Modern CD mastering is just pathetic and even good old CDs can't match the original vinyls quite often.

Personally I'd like to see PTH remain open to those that are willing to put in the effort. Either through an interview, or a challenging enough user status on another tracker. Capping the amount of users will do little for the safety of the site IMO - I'm sure we're already on the radar.

Focusing on ongoing OPSEC improvements, and community seeded (partial) database backups would be the way to go forward. Then if PTH ever gets taken down we can restore our library a little more easily.
