This is correct when you're talking about playing on a device that supports decoding lossy files. The rest is retarded. Decoding mp3 or aac to wav and burning it to a cd doesn't result in any quality loss. It's not as good as burning something lossless. It's technically wasteful. But when I make CDs for my family members to play in their cars I do it. They don't know the difference.

the only appropriate use of V0 is when the source material(that is in this case V0 mp3) is to be played on the device that contains the files (a computer capable of decoding mp3 or an mp3 player).

CD players can't decode mp3, so burning mp3 to a CD means your computer decodes it and writes it to the CD as a shitty quality transcode that sounds like tinny underwater garbage, but you cant tell if you have blown a chinese subwoofer in your trunk.

If you throw it on a CD, you're not re-encoding it in a lossy format. You don't lose any detail doing that. You're wasting a fuckton of bits because it's lossy -> lossless, and it's a dumb thing to do, but you're not losing detail, and if that's the only way to get your CD player to play that shit, then whatever.

Likewise, the aux cable thing is retarded. If you're hooking up speakers via an aux cable, then that's just your DAC giving it the same analog signal it gives your headphones. Re-recording that analog signal and converting it back to digital is retarded, 'cause it's lossy -> lossy, but that's a completely different issue.

While we will continue to explore and implement new functionality/features, and as a new site there will be minor bugs to work out, we are no longer in beta, as we've moved to our permanent server protected by proxy and other security features.

Our initial launch was rushed as we first responders to a need for a What.CD replacement. While perceived security risks were server-side, in the end the only security risk and what ended up resulting in a shut-down and database purge after the first couple days ended up being 2 staff members who were involved in another 'competing' tracker who sought to do us harm. Yes, mistakes were made due to the rush, but we have learned from them and are carefully filtering potential staff on our new infrastructure.

This new infrastructure includes a better backup system which was priority during the server move. This means it is 100% safe to continue uploading your collections, as they will not be lost.

On a lighter/happier not, people are still using nocdn.co(our WhatImg alternative/replacement), which is awesome. You may register and use it. New IRC details are in the Wiki
