any reason to upgrade from the Nexus 5 besides battery (and the fact its EOL now) ?

Feel like there is no more middle-priced phones around 400-500USD and the majority of features have been memes

The only good things that would come out of an upgrade would be:
-water and dust resistance
-larger screen (with very little other benefit in screen tech)
-better battery life

A phone that comes close to that is going to be in the 700USD+ mark. Really doesn't seem like a worthwile upgrade.

Is there any reason to get a Zenfone 3 deluxe over a OnePlus 3T. The only thing I really see is the camera, and that I like ZenUI, other than that it's shitload more economical to get OnePlus comparatively for specs.

So, is the Pixel any good or just a $800 fashion accessory?
>>
>>57687790
was considering it
I would say that brand is the continuation of the price:performance ratio of the now gone Nexus line. Definitely good mainstream hardware. Hope the company focuses on one flagship line that it can support for longer instead of fragmenting its line and fading into obscurity.

I don't know whether to ask this here or in /sqt/, but I have a Sony Xperia M4, and it's complaining that internal storage is getting full. I've only put a few songs and pictures on it; most of the storage is just shitty apps I can't delete that came with the phone. However, my phone is charging from my PC now and I'm looking at all the internal storage folders, and I wonder: are the apps stored in one of those folders? Can I just delete them this way?
>>
>Pixel XL and Ishit 7 Plus are both exactly 769 USD MSRP

I fucking love this meme. Google now thinks it's in the same realm as the ifashion accessory that has years of master marketing under its belt.

I'm going to go ahead and dump my consumertard blogpost here:

was seriously considering an ishit until I saw what the 7 had come to be.

I have used Android for a long time and dev subsidized lines like the Nexus were a good value since they had good hardware and the largest degree of customization and software optimization

I liked Android at that point because I used my phone for media consumption and an array of other things that required fine grain control. It was also cheap and had decent hardware.

Presently I have stopped using my phone for media consumption and heavy internet browsing. I find myself dependent mostly on the stock features of the phone.

I stopped having a need for various levels of adblocking, an open file system, UI tweaking etc (things Android was perfect for)

I value a consistent UI and a non fragmented software release community and don't mind paying a bit extra. Since the Nexus line is gone there isn't much choice left for price:performance in the Android ecosystem unless you get some obscure gookphone and anyone that leaves the basement more than once a month doesn't want to deal with that.
>>
>>57688328

From the freedom perspective:
Phones are proprietary tracking devices so from that perspective Android is the same as Apple. Actually, Apple has gained more respect in my eyes with the recent hard stance the company took, especially compared to Google, which has no regard for its users.

I was seriously considering an iphone but Apple seems to be going in a completely wrong direction after the iphone 5. Removal of the jack, no matter how much COURAGE it took was a stupid move for a market that is not ready. Not including the new wireless technology with your 700USD+ imeme is an insult to the consumer (it's like Apple wants to see just how much they can abuse their customers). Another thing is the lack of a quality display on the phone and the lack of good battery life (although shit battery life has been a standard feature on the iphone)

tl;dr I would have gotten an ishit if they didn't actually remove features from it
>>

Root and install official builds of CM on it, iirc theyre up to 13.1 in stable releases.

Never had a problem with official CM being buggy except on a chinkphone with fingerprint scan that refused to work, and even then it fixed itself after installing Xposed and a week of use.

Where do you live? Moto G4 and G4 Play are half price just about everywhere and they're pretty fucking good for their price, I snagged a G Play for ~100 dollars and it's much better than my old-ish Note 4 even though it's vastly less powerful, must be lagwizz' fault.
>>

13.1 is just Marshmallow isn't it? What would be the point?

I had a Moto E before and it served me just fine but I got this for free. I don't feel the need for anything better except for maybe Daydream support but none of the flagships have interested me much at all to bother.

Disadvantages of N are: no Xposed, roms still in beta, no root on some phones, it has no real advantages over M sans some cosmetic changes unless your phone is a $799 flagship, case in point, my phone will get the nougat upgrade in February at worst but there is no reason to upgrade as all I get is forced doze (something I already have with greenify and Xposed) and a prettier status bar, meanwhile I lose a fuckload of things.

CM 13.1 is marshmallow yes, but the official builds are optimized for your phone, you won't get something like this out of a pajeet "bugs: you tell me :)" nougat cm14 rom.

Also correct me if I'm wrong but every moto g2 got stuck on L 5.0, didn't even get L 5.1 or M.

Phone died so I'm looking for a new one, tmobile, budget is flexible (prefer under $400), but it has to have a physical keyboard. Priv is the only phone I'm aware of, but I'm also willing to use a keyboard case or other kind of addon keyboard on a different phone if the keyboard is any good.

My main issue with the priv is the lack of rooting, am I right to be concerned about that?
>>
>>57689260
I got it with Marshmallow installed. Wiki says that's the latest ver.

You can opt out of Google apps for F-Droid, MicroG and ApkTrack, gapps is a real battery drainer, I've used mine for an entire day without charging and it still has ~20% or so of battery left, couple that with turbocharge (one hour for 0% to 100%) and it's insane how much this thing lasts.

There's also customizing your status bar with the toggles, screen density, turning on hidden LEDs etc, all the little overlooked features of CM that stock android doesn't have.

Le 2 x520 or k6000 pro would be my recommendations. Don't settle for less than 3GB ram, it's almost 2017 and with 6GB flagships already mainstream, ram requirements are going to skyrocket.
>>
>>57691169
Same, however I started off with iOS, iPhone 3gs, but mostly an Android guy. On Nexus 6p atm. I think I'm at that point where my priorities have changed and the little things of iOS keep attracting me, I might go back.

about to pick up a phone for around 350 with 4 gb ram.
>>
>>57691267
3GB and up should be fine imo, but 2GB just won't cut it for long.

Especially with an already bloated Android rom like miui.

I usually have ~400-600MB free on my k6000 pro and I multitask quite a bit. My nexus 5 was only 2GB and apps would close all the time on android 5.1 and up and reopen when I pulled them from my recents.
>>
Honor 5X or Moto G Plus?
>>
>>57691226
The reason I've stayed are better quality apps, iMessage, and find my phone which helps keep track of my kid and even got the phone recovered when
some kid stole it out of her backpack on the bus. But most of all everything works as it should and I dont have to spend time trying to make it work, I don't have time and am willing to accept the limitations.

That's what I'm saying. But 6GB phones haven't been out for long, hope long until 2GB is barely enough for running android with a couple of chrome tabs and your music player?

Can't make up my mind between Pixel XL and HTC 10. I'm leaning to the Pixel XL, but I don't think I'm making a rational decision.

The HTC 10 is smaller and I was really hoping to get a 5.5". But it has a microSD slot and is $270 cheaper this weekend.
The Pixel XL is a bit bigger and comes with less bloat preinstalled, but it's $270 more expensive and doesn't even have a fucking microSD slot. But it also has a better battery (at least that's what the reviews are saying).

I really don't know if +.3" in screen size and a slightly better battery are worth $270.

Looking for a phone with best camera and battery life for ~500aud or less.

Is the zuk z2 pro my best option? What else is there around that price?

Not a huge fan of xiaomi phones after managing to destroy my redmi 3.

Don't give a fuck about ui as long as I can access my apps with ease.

Aesthetically pleasing designs are more desirable, naturally. I think phones like the zuk z2 pro, oukitel k6000 pro, redmi 3 pro, vernee mars, etc, looks nice.

I've done a lot of research and honestly it looks like the zuk z2 pro is my best bet, but before I blow 500 on a phone, I thought I'd ask you fellows here for any advice or recommendations.

Pic is just, hopefully, for getting your attention.

Some king of LG phone with marshmallow 6.0. It looks more or less the same UI wise as a S7 and very similar to google phones. I'm not a teenager or neet and don't enjoy wasting my life getting things usable by customizing my shit. If windows phone actually had apps I'm quite certain Android would die as a platform in less than 3 years.

So still my question is still is an iPhone similar to the windows phone experience but with more apps? I don't want to hear that this shitdroid phone is usable once you brick it with shitmod x and then left on your own demise when whatever maintainer for shitmod x decides to remove support for your phone.

I see no point if the default ones are pure garbage. It just tells that google has $0 spent on UX and I can't expect much quality from the ecosystem.

Now that ya'll spooked me into not buying the G5 due to the bootloop (I like its camera and the bigger size mostly), it's either an S7 or a P9, and I suppose picking the S7 is a no-brainer in this case.
I'd pick the S7E but it's just a tad too big and has that stupid curved screen gimmick, which sounds bothersome.

Has anyone had one band (say LTE) break on their phone while others like 3G, Edge, etc. work perfectly fine? By break I mean intermittent drops in signal, intermittent dropped inbound and outbound calling

I am experiencing exactly this on a Nexus 5 and flashing earlier modems / factory resetting / even trying a ROM has been no help

Beyond puzzled as any software fix I have attempted has failed. Doesn't make sense for this to be a hardware issue since my 3G radio works perfectly

Am i going in the right direction or should I look for other options?
>>
>>57700050
As far as blocking YouTube ads, my choice was always to pay for YouTube Red. :P It allows background play, and has 0 ads.
I know it's $10.00 a month, but the money has to come from somewhere, and I value not having to listen to ads more than $10.00 every month, so I think it's a fair value.

I know that's not the answer you were looking for, but it's been my answer for some time now.

I realized I'll probably hold onto my phone for longer than I'd thought.

Used to upgrade every 1-1 1/2 years and now I've had this 6S since release, so around 14ish months.

It's the only phone I've had since now that doesn't have some kind of huge flaw, everything is at least mediocre - the S3 had a shit build and only 1GB of RAM, M8 had the 4MP camera... (good phone though)
>>

I'm still with my S3, prolonged the fuck out of it through CM but yeah the build is extremely cheap feeling now and getting pretty sluggish. It'll reboot when it feels like it.

Hopefully next phone lasts just as long, I don't see a reason to upgrade yearly like others do, I love me some dramatic increases though so going from my S3 to any 2016 device will probably be quite the thing.

You mean the newest device or the newest best moto? For the latter its the G4 Play; really cheap, 5'' 720p, 2GB ram, SD slot up to 128 GB, 2800 mAh battery, comes with a turbocharger, pure android sans a single moto app, nougat upgrade in a couple months, sturdy, doesn't overheat like the G4 or G4+ because it doesn't have a meme overclocked octacore (at the cost of an inferior snapdragon and processor).

Its honestly the only moto phone worth a shit because for the cost of a moto X, moto Z or a G4/G4+ you can get superior phones for the same price (HTC 10, S7, RN3P) without glaring problems like ghost touches, screen burn in, busted fingerprint scan, glass back etc.
>>
I'm tired of compromising on features and always going "It's great and all except for..."

Currently using a Nexus 5, and the camera and battery life is sort of starting to tire me, seeing other people get 4-6 hours of use while I get slightly over 2 is depressing, and the camera though very usable under good lighting goes completely to shit as soon as the sun starts to set.
Also half irrelevant is the abysmal speaker, but I rarely use it so I can live with a bad one.

Is my only option an S7?
I love the great camera, good battery and nice design.
Only gripe I think is lack of a type C connector.

I was toying around with the idea of a pixel but it costing twice as much as an S7, which is already pretty expensive for me, turns me down.

Generally I'm looking for a good camera, good battery, waterproof is a big bonus, bad performance is unacceptable but most phones even in the $100 range don't suffer from it, and type C is also a big bonus.

Amount of storage, speakers, fingerprint sensor, and front facing camera do not matter at all.
>>
>>57698881
What I find more intriguing is that an iPhone 7 with a 1950mAh battery outperforms the S7 with a 3000mAh battery.
>>
>>57701028
Their processors are great, their specs underwhelming (said A10 makes up for it though) and their screen resolution is a weird sub 1080p, of course it's going to last much longer, if they werent run by jews and didn't cater so much to homos, women, nu-males and normalfags in general we could have one with a 4500 mAH battery, earphone jack, sd slot and type c instead of the laughable devices they shat out recently.
>>
>>57701009
>Only gripe I think is lack of a type C connector.
Is USB-C just a connector for iPhone retards who kept breaking their phones from jamming the connectors the wrong way or is there something I'm not getting? Does it have any advantages other than preventing people from destroying their phones with their rashness?
Not aiming this at you just generally wondering.

Incidentally I am also planning to buy an S7, and was wondering what sort of shield /spg/ uses. I like minimal things, and preferably want the screen to be protected too, like a flip-open case.
>>
>>57700344
do i even need spotify then?
>>
>>57701114
Personally I haven't broken any connector on any phone I've used but not having to look at the cable every single fucking time is nice.

It also allows faster charging (sort of a meme though) and faster transfer speeds, since micro usb supports only usb 2.0 .

I also generally like being at the technological meme edge, and support type C as the new standard.

Seems like the HTC 10 is what you're looking for, it has everything you ask, (good battery, good camera, USB type C, fluid) plus a much better stock rom, better community support, root/bootloader without voiding your warranty, better dual front facing speakers and trademark boomsound, dedicated dac for audio, much more sturdy but sadly not at all waterproof but the S7 isn't either, a few splashes is all its going to endure before it shits itself, you'd have to be a massive retard to drop it in the shitter or a pool though, you're not meant to play meme crush on the toilet you know.

Neither the Pixel or i7 are worth the 800 dollars, don't fall for their jewish tactics.

I'm sort of considering buying something without a good camera, but with a good SOC and battery (so basically any chinkphone upwards of $100) and doing as >>57701478 says, since I'm going to be doing a lot of traveling soon, and even though carrying another device with you will suck, just about any modern DSLR will outperform even the S7/pixel.

If you absolutely need Daydream, grab just about anything with an 820. Samsung pissed and moaned until Big G greenlighted the 820 for the S7, and everybody else is jumping aboard. If you're not interested in Daydream, grab any Nexus or anything with good CM support like a OnePlus. I have a Nexus 6 and it's running 7.1 like a champ with Assistant.

I mean a good DSLR is going to be worth it in the end. Not only will you get amazing quality images/videos, but you also have immediate access to all of these files for better personal processing later on. No more having to back things up by connecting your phone, just buy a whole bunch of SD cards, and fill them up as you travel around. In addition to all of this, most DSLRs have removable batteries therefore you should never be running into problems there. Oh and of course better control over things as you shoot, rather than trying to jump through all these menus just to change shutter speed.

For MOST people, phone cameras are just fine, they don't take much photos/videos, and when they do they want minimal effort on their part. But if you're going to be spending so much money for amazing images/videos, might as well invest in a DSLR. Or mirrorless camera, or whatever the fuck else is out there these days. I mean that's if you actually care about image/video quality. No reason to care about that shit if all you're going to do is wind up applying an instagram filter on to it.

It's about the best "muh ruggedz" device out there, seeing as the Galaxy S Active lineup stopped being good with the S5 Active, and they also explode. A Droid Turbo/2 can be unlocked for use on almost any network, and is reasonably tough. The LG V20 looks OK, but I can confirm the V10 will shit the bed at the slightest provocation. My wife had one.

No but HP provides their own entire virtualization backbone to virtualize all x86 applications a business use. The entire point of the phone.

What? That's a nonissue with onedrive. As for business perspective there should be no need to sync anything.

Why not have an actually powerful laptop instead if you are bringing a brick with you? And yes as you say it already exists and have for quite a while now. It just doesn't gain any traction for good reasons.
