I don't have much hope towards those new music trackers which emerged in the last days. It appears to me that they emerged just for the sake of being a quick replacement for WCD: No aim, vision, plan in mind from the side of the operators who probably act only due to despair.

They are condemned to fail and won't succeed.

I think something that builds on/takes inspiration from SLSK has more chance of becoming a decent successor.

I haven't try it myself, but my impression coming from my research is that it's nowadays more like a dinosaur from the Napster--millenium-era that somehow managed to survive to this day, a living fossil.

- No encourage to seed unlike priv. tracker
- 2001-esque focus on single mp3 files, whole album dl is more like a sub-feature
- slow TCP transmission from a single source
- no collective sense for quality, polluted with crap files (outdated encodes, formats)

That's why I didn't say to simply jump on it. But I like about it that every user is also a "Seeder", and dl on demand from music folders promises more diversity. And it's also kind of more decentral.

Well, now I rethought about this. And I've come to the conclusion that SLSK isn't suited for file-sharing; mostly due to lack of segmented file transmissions â la Bittorrent. It probably wasn't even intended for this by it's creators, but it's more like a tool for indie musicians/bedroom producers/garage bands to make their music available. Actually, along with the community/chat feature this is a great platform for them. But I guess only for those who will to participate with the community, so today with the age of Bandcamp it's even for that purpose obsolete or unnecessary.

Why no one - someone who actually knows what he's doing - came up with the plan to start one tracker with a clear campaign which speaks to former WCD users, and incite them to dump what they have obtained from there? There was no organized communication or planning within the community and now we have four trackers working against each other. Great, now the apparent leader is a tracker with questionable operator and staff, who simply took Gazelle code, started open signup; all kinds of people join just for the sake to be in a private tracker + FL and not with the intention to build a strong successor, people upload aimlessly and probably two years from now the tracker will be shut down because the thing was condemned to fail from the start on.
