How's this build? I plan to use it for light gaming, drawing, video rending, and web browsing.

Is there anyway I can improve it while retaining a similar price?

I'm mounting a Corsair H100i GTX into the top of a Corsair Obsidian 750D case. There are washers included, which are supposed to mount into the case, but the rubber stands present in the case are preventing me from securing the top screws. If I mount without the screws, the rubber squishes in a way that makes me uncomfortable. Is this still a correct mounting? Pic related.
Also, do I want the fans blowing air to the radiator or to the inside of the case?

>>57669194
Me personally, I've saved almost a hundred dollars buying now compared to if I were to have just assembled earlier in the month or last month. If you're fixing to save, now is the time. Keep your eyes open towards many retailers to find the items you want; Just today, I saw that Micro Center had the CPU I purchased for about $40 less than what I paid for.
>>
>>57669205
Don't have the money

With the build I posted I'd only have like $30 leftover in my budget

Is there any point in getting a 8 Gb Sapphire Nitro RX480 over the 4 Gb one if I just play in 1080p? Most intensive games I play are probably Witcher 3 and the new Hitman.

Planning to build first PC next month and would appreciate any feedback on
the parts I have in mind.

This would be for mostly 1080p@60hz gaming on newer titles, along with a few MMOs
like WoW or FFXIV.

My budget is around $800-850.

>>
Oh great Wizards of the Tech Machines, I have come to ask ye of helpe.

There are two hard drives, two hard drives of different types, that I'll be putting in a MSA60 NAS storage. I plan to purchase several of these drives.

I had planned to purchase the WD 8TB Red NAS drive, which costs 310 USD.
However, a challenger has appeared:

The Seagate IronWolf 8TB NAS hard drive, which now costs 260 USD.

The Seagate sports a higher internal buffer of 256MB vs the WD's 128, and the Seagate has a RPM of 7200 while the WD has a RPM of 5400.

Is the Seagate just THAT much better of a deal, /g/?

Hey! I'm looking to upgrade my CPU for gaming. Is there any reason that I shouldn't get a Xeon 6/8 core over one of the i5/i7s on logical increments?

The xeons are significantly cheaper while having better CPUmark scores (albeit slightly lower single-thread scores)
>>
>>57670709
>albeit slightly lower single-thread scores

That's why.
Lot of games nowdays do single core shit instead of multicore.
So a CPU with 4 strong cores is better than 8 weak ones.

>>
>Check to see if there's any deals on z170s
>Asus' has like 8 versions of the damn thing

Yeesh
Aside from one using ddr3 instead of ddr4 and form factors, I haven't looked too much into anything else that could be different.
>>
>>57671018
I'm not trolling, I am FOR REAL this new.
I don't really care that much about write and read speeds. My concern is storage, and as far as I know, HGST/Hitachi is the most reliable.
I do gayme, but only because my friends do, it's not really an important part of my life. I'm on the fence buy thinking about trading the CPU even further for something with "nice" price:performance, perhaps a GTX 1060 6GB or RX 480. I try not to go over $650 in total price for everything but peripherals.
Maybe I would downgrade to an i3 6300 for ~$155?
I did the math for the parts, and trading for an i3 6300 + RX 480 would run me $642. Not sure if the i3 6300 would be worth it.
>>
>>57671092
Clarification: I gayme frequently, but I may stop at some random time. My life would hardly be affected if I don't have a GPU.
>>
>>57670788
you know you can make a custom parts on PCPartpicker manually, right?

>his build
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/cgq2bj
Anyway, lets tear this apart step by step.

>CPU and CPU cooler.
CPU is alright, Cooler is good, that's nice.
what isn't nice is the fact that the bundle costs more than the two items separate.
>327.97 > 319.87

>Mobo
You buy a processor-

>thread updates.

Alright lets change it up some.
>CPU+Cooler
Same problem again.
>RAM
Too slow, need 3000MHz for Z170/overclocking.
>Mobo
Eh, could be cheaper.

You know what, fuck it.
I'm tired of putting your links and searching shit up, here have a build.
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/xnMYQV

And it's too much, here's another one that's cheaper.

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/gy9ZzM

>>57671092
If you're this new, tell me how much time you've spent doing research?

Also,
>i3-6300
It's just a 0.2 GHz upgrade for a stupid price from a 6100, get the 6100 and a 470(144 right now, overclocked version of the card I have, works fine, check links above).
>>
So I'm looking to get a full upgrade, but want to see how worth it it will be at this time.
Currently I'm running an i5-4460, 16 gigabytes of ram, and CPU graphics. Am I better off doing a 6500K build from scratch, or just putting a new GPU and PSU in my current setup? Will my 4460 be relevant for much longer, with the somewhat recent addition of the 6800K and upward?
>>
>>57671092
>>57671104
Alright, alright.

I've calmed down a bit, was really ticked earlier.
But-
>Post purpose of build
>Post budget
>Read sticky
>Do some research
>Make build
>THEN post it.

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/QFq2bj

Also, if you can tolerate an i3-6100, by all means, go with this.

If storage is your thing, 120 for OS, 2TB for whatever you have.

Mobo is Z170 with 3000MHz Ram in the case you decide to upgrade to an Intel K CPU that can overclock, as all non-K CPUs are locked, along with all non-Z170 Mobos.
No -K suffix at the end, no overclocking(only in really rare cases, while back there was something going on with manufacturers releasing shit that could do that before intel patched it.)
>>
>>57671186
>6500K
You mean 6600K
>i5-4460.
Keep it, just see if you can get faster RAM or so.

Depending on what your motherboard allows, you can have 2133MHz DDR3 Ram which works nicely in your case.

>6800K
Wouldn't worry too much about it.

Just get a GPU/PSU and upgrade when intel's prices drop when AMD rolls out ZEN.
>>
>>57671084
List the two GPUs, then we'll have a better idea of what you're talking about.
>>
>>57671113
>>57671187

I started researching a few hours ago. Very new.

Also, no, thank you for telling me. No more of this awful linking shit.

(The above text is old, I have been distracted some)

Fuck me, I glanced over what was said on OP.

Needed advice: What do I look for in a motherboard besides ports?
>>
>>57671249
*And the pin configuration for the CPU; I mean BGA, LGA, etc.
>>
>>57671249
Check reviews, brand names, etc.
If there's a lot of bad shit going on with them, like DOA, unuseable interface, etc. drop it.

Make sure you have the correct form factor for the case you are using.
Micro ATX inside of an ATX case can work, but it looks silly as hell.

Even more so with Mini-ITX which is even smaller.

if you're not too strapped/want to save physical space on the PC, M.2 Drives like the one I posted earlier require an M.2 port on the mobo. Make sure it has that if you really need it.

Check how many PCIe x16 slots it has if you need multiple GPUs, etc.

>>57671270
partpicker will limit you to the socket for whatever CPU you chose, but as for chipsets, the info on them is in the sticky.

Also, stay away from mobo's that use DDR3 RAM with Skylake processors(6th generation intel processors, i3/i5/i7 - 6X00).
>>
>>57671239

vs.

http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu.php?gpu=GeForce+GTX+980&id=2953

I don't get how the second one is more expensive and performs better (according to G3Dmark) while having 2gb lower memory, and lower core and memory clock speeds...
>>
>>57671300

Lemme explain.

10-60.
10th generation, 3rd card in the line up of that generation
1050, 1060, 1070, 1080, etc.

So 9th generation, best card in the line up of that generation as well.

Best way to compare-

>>57671328
No, DDR3 is slower. starts out at 1333 MHz, then can branch up to 2133MHz, but DDR4 STARTS at 2133MHz and can branch farther.

>>57671334
>CPU

I mean, that's pretty fucking high end, but I'd stick with an 850 EVO at 500 GBs at the same price or so if I had the chance. M.2 form included as well.

Yeah, just format the HDD, and make sure not to tilt it around while it's operating/shaking or moving it.

Would a 2TB WD Blue be sufficient as a drive for music, movies, and general storage? I won't be booting my OS or playing any games off of this particular drive and I'm not sure if spending the extra cash on a 2TB Black would really be worth it.

Also, from what I understand 2TB Blues are actually just rebranded Greens, is that a bad thing?

>>57671449
They made the head parking less aggressive for less wear, but it's still there. Go for it if it's the cheapest 2TB drive you can get your hands on. Seagate 2TBs are cheaper and equally reliable, contrary to outdated information. The newer WD Blues have a higher fail rate than before, about on par with the older WD Green (I wonder why).
>>
>>57671432
Thanks man.

Isn't the 950 NVMe but not the 850? How much performance hit would be using 850? I might as well go with a Intel 600p or Sandisk...
>>
>>57669438
They seem okay. I see alot of peoplpe getting Zotac and EVGA 1060's.
>>
>>57671438
The 80+ bronze, gold, etc are just indicators on how much power is saved when you pull power from the wall.

So if you get a 75% efficient PSU, and your PC pulls 250w, it's pulling 333w out of the wall actually.

The higher it gets, the higher the effieciency, etc.

For the most part, it doesn't make that big of a difference on your electricity bill, something like 20 bucks a year, I might be wrong so if someone could correct me on that, I'd appreciate it.

>>57671581

Xeons have tons of cores but pathetic IPC and single core performance
Games rarely use more than two cores, DX11 can't even utilize over 4 threads (DX12 seems to top out at 6 cores) it's still up to game devs to make multicore processing run well anyways, and they aren't doing a good job
Get one of the simple streamlined quad cores with insane single thread performance (basically the whole core line)

Ironically that picture shows some of the best GPU cooling you can do this side of watercooling.

I ripped off the shroud and fans off an ASUS DirectCUII and ghettorigged some cheap 120mm case fans (Alpenföhns) directly onto the heat sink. Went from being the loudest GPU I've ever known to the quietest I've ever known.

I am trying to get to my laptop's CPU to put Thermal Paste on it, and was doing fine until these things. How do I remove these things conveniently and safely? It has little straps on the wires but one they aren't attached to the jack itself so all the force is going against the wires, and two they lack the adhesive to sit still. The videos I watched show them pulling on the wires to remove it, but that makes me scream inside and I'm pretty sure I'll tear the wires out sooner than the jack. The last one I did took 10 minutes of fingernail digging, which I can't afford here because of all the junk next to it.

Ye, microcenter right now has amazing prices. I picked up a 6600k for 179, MSI M7 for 159, and a zotac 1070 amp extreme for 430, which is about what the online stores are selling it for instead of the original 530 that they wanted.
>>
>>57672197
It's not bad, it's the noise of one fan. Much quieter than my H100i watercooler with two fans and a liquid pump making noise honestly
I'm not one to be picky about noise but it's not noisy to me at all
You can always get a better quieter fan and replace it (the hyper 212 has normal fan mounts too)
>>

How do I know what case to get? My motherboard says micro ATX form factor, but I have no idea if that's micro ATX desktop, mid, or mini tower. None of the other parts mention a case size, is the motherboard the only part that's important regarding case size?

The two cases I'm looking at:
>Fractal Design Define R5 (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case
>Fractal Design Core 1000 USB 3.0
>>
>>57669061
thats like $1k of fans
>>
>>57672203
Games are still taking a while to catch up with the GPU performance jump of 14nm, but it's soon going to happen and then the 1070 will be just what it is: a midrange card.
When Volta comes out in 6-12 months they will likely rebadge the 1070 to 1160 and sell it for $200-$250. Then games will be designed with even more powerful cards in mind.

Now is really not the time to buy graphics cards.

>>
>>57672328
airflow is as good or bad as any other conventional ATX tower - and the R5 is as conventional as can be.

If you want airflow you should be looking at cases with 180mm fans and/or unusual airflow designs. Either cubes (Corsair, Thermaltake, Lian Li of you have money to burn) or 90° turned cases (Silverston FT2 or FT5)

How's this?

I usually do some gaming, I host a web server, and I also process and edit videos at images at higher resolutions (usually 1920x1080). I also edit audio. My games (TF2, Blockland, etc.) are not very resource-intensive.

Note: I will most likely be running either Windows 7 Ultimate or Xubuntu, although I will probably dual-boot. I do not want to go over $650, so I can't afford an SSD with decent capacity, but I can live without it.

Any thoughts?

(Thank you earlier anon for helping me)
>>
>>57672415
use an i5 for that video / photo editing. If your games are not demanding, get a gtx 1050ti.
I've heard win-7 is a bitch to get working on skylake btw, so you may want to consider Haswell if using Win7 is essential to you.
Get a cheaper power supply. You aren't even breaking 300 watts with that. Less if you get the 1050ti like I suggested. something 450w max is all you need. Dropping the GPU and psu down should give you a few extra dollars to get a 120gb / 240/250gb SSD.
>>
>>57672457
I can use Windows 10 LTSB if I need to. No issue with that.
What about futureproofing?
>>
>>57672089
Absolutely not. I can vouch for them being an order of magnitude better than Corsair fans. I had a loud build with a Corsair closed loop cooler, replaced them (and my case fans) with Noctua fans, now it is silent.
>>
>>57672479
futureproofing what exactly? A modern i5 will last for years. A gtx 1050ti is more than enough to play tf2 and other low demand games above 100fps at 1080p. Pc parts are using less electricity each generation, so unless you want a monster GPU or a SLI/Crossfire setup, I doubt a 450w unit will hold you back. Get a 500w unit if you're really not sure.

Is the corsair psu a CX unit? If so don't use it. They're bad. Most of their other stuff is great though. If you're at 1080p, you probably don't need 16gb ram. Assume if I build it myself it will be way cheaper, but is it any better than what I currently have? (pic related) I Built my current machine through dell but they don't offer that service any more. (I probably got stiffed I assume) I just want to upgrade from this for a reasonable price (2-3k $CAN) If I can get building and delivery included without sacrificing too much I might go for it.

I just want to run photoshop and newer steam games without killing it. My current machine is about 6 years old and I'm pretty sure all the parts are just dying so I want to get another machine ordered for if it does just die, rather than buying replacement parts for what I assume is a bad build I picked from dell years ago.

It's a debate for the ages really. 1060 is indisputably better for 99% of games /right now/, but AMD has a long track record of their cards aging better. In addition, the 480 supports Dx12 and Vulkan better. It already kicks ass in Doom and Battlefield 1. That said, the 1060 is $50 more right now, and the MSI Gaming X version of the 480 is $199 plus a rebate and comes with Civ6. I just bought the 480, because to me, the 1060 isn't $50 better.

z170 chipset is meant for overclocking. If you don't plan on overclocking, you can get a much cheaper b150/ h170 motherboard with (mostly) the same features. The cooler is overkill if you don't overclock. If you only plan on running stock clocks, use the intel stock cooler, or get a $10 cooler to reduce noise, and your temps will be acceptable for normal every day use.

If you haven't already bought it, let me clarify a bit. I got myself a 480 because the conclusions I drew told me that it was a better purchase for myself.
What the 1060 has going for it is awesome temps, great overclocking, better software, including Nvidia shadow play which I rather enjoy using to share a couple of quick videos with friends. I'm going to have to find a new recording software when i get my 480. And in most current games like Witcher, GTAV, ect, the 1060 is ahead by a good performance chunk. I'd use a 1060 for 1440p. I wouldn't use a 480 for 1440p.

Only recommendation I've gotten from asking online is a ASUS Z170 Pro Gaming. I'd love to get more recommendations/options though. I don't really overclock and I value reliability/long lasting over anything else. My budget is up to $150.

Honestly even brand recommendations would be helpful. Never bought a motherboard before so really don't know much.

Posted my speccy for my motherboard size. I switched out my 780 for my old 9800 because I thought it went bad.
>>
Is black friday the best time of year to buy components?

Is there a cheaper time? I don't really recall any times that components go on sale, just wondering if I don't buy shit today if I'll be fucked.

$70 for a 240GB Samsung 850 EVO

The Sandisk one is kind of shitty, but it's cheap as hell. Will a nice Samsung one last any longer??

Talk me out of buying this deal. After customizing it with i7-6700k, 16gb ram, 1080 hybrid water cooled, and few other changes it comes out to a little over 2k. It also includes a vive.

This seems to be the first pre-built that is cheaper than buying the parts seperate. Black Friday deals are fucking with my head.

What do i do?

so I'm looking to build a new gaming computer to share with the partner
kinda want something small so we can move it around, thinking micro atx case
I like the thermaltake core v21, but if there's anything better with plenty of airflow I'm game

small is better, it's probably gonna be air cooled anyways
I'm hoping to stay around 700 but i can go higher if need be
the only really necessary things I have no far are an i5 and gtx 1070 or an amd that's comparable

anybody have recs on mobo and case?

what graphics card is in there? If it doesn't list one, it might be a shitty low end gpu. My guess is that it's probably a 970, 480, or 1060 though to classify as "VR ready"

For a mid tower, will I need one of those closed loop liquid coolers to properly cool a 6700k, a 1070, a BD drive and 2HDDs? (there's also 2 SSD's but they are mounted in behind the backplate so they shouldn't affect the cooling)

I'm worried there won't be good enough air flow and if i'm doing air cooling for the CPU I might be better off with a full tower, especially since I plan on adding a 3rd HDD.

Only get that motherboard if you are going to use that sweet ass $40 rebate. Otherwise, get something a bit more reasonable. It's quite a nice board though.
Evga GQ 650w is $70 right now and aaaalmost as good as the g3. You won't notice a difference. Ram is a good choice.
You /probably/ don't need the hyperthreading for what you use, but I imagine the 3d modeling could benefit, and the 6700k is on sale atm so up to you.
t. A Cheap-Ass Penny-Pincher.
>>
>>57673938
Honestly that looks pretty solid. You could drop in a 1050 at a later date and it would be able to do light gaming alright too. Though if you are thinking of doing that I would say jump up to the i3 6100.

The power supply is rather silly. Get a more reasonable bronze or gold rated 600w or so at max. You're only using 425-450 watts at full load, overclocked. Use the extra savings to bump up your ram speed to 3000mhz. The rest all seems pretty reasonable for a 1440p / 4k gaming rig. If you're ONLY gaming, you can certainly get away with a 6600k. The h7 (a slight step up from the 212evo) is a nice cooler btw, but don't expect to get too high of an OC before it gets a little warm.

>>57674146
Weight? Nah should be fine. It's a little low end for something like a 6700k though. But personally, I'm using a 6600k at 4.1ghz with it and temps are pretty good. Depends how hard you want to push it I suppose. But if I were spending for a fancy-ass mobo, an i7, and other stuff, I think stepping into the $40-45 price range for a cooler isn't unreasonable.

>>57674154
if that anon is only doing web-browsing, then they probably won't see the benefits of dropping an extra $50 from a pentium to a celron. If they're trying to game off it, maybe? At that point i'd hop on craigslist and start looking for a used 750ti or something though. Actually, somebody on my local CL is selling a gtx 960 for $75.

I didn't want to spare any expense for the power supply. I want something that's efficient, so it doesn't overuse power, and stable. If there's an alternative let me know because I'm not good at picking parts. I'm also not looking to fiddle with overclocking and such.
>Ram speed
I was told 2666 was good enough instead of a 3000 which is only a 2% increase. But what would oyu recommend?
>>
>>57674354
By overuse power do you mean contributing to your electric bill? nigga a 500w computer will cost you less per year than a few lightbulbs. As to stability goes, build quality is all that really matters. Seasonic m12ii 620 watts will be more than enough for your system and has superb reviews. If you NEED gold rating (you don't) the corsair RMx 550w is a great unit also that is very reliable. There's also lots of EVGA great power supplies in that price range with different ratings and features.

>>57674351
just get the 470 bro. Or just live with regular V-sync. I've been running regular 1080p for well over a year now (on a gtx 960 btw) and Most games look fantastic. Just set a manual limit of 60fps instead of using V-sync. There's also some good frame-time adjusting programs for free that help as much or more than freesync. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4yeROJQR_qE

usually what I do for power supplies to determine wattage is take PCPartpicker's wattage estimate, and multiply it by x1.2 (or 20%). This helps account for random power spikes. Doing that to your machine gives me 446 (which is why I said 450w earlier). So tl;dr I'd say yes, a 520w unit is sufficient for you.
>>
>>57669061
would this actually be objectively effective? ignoring cost, could this be quiet and cool?
>>
>>57674452
vsync when it's consistent is pretty good but it does create some input lag, and even with triple buffering it has problems with timing if you can't hit 60+ consistently

freesync completely solves the timing issue by displaying the frames at the correct time instead of waiting for refresh, at all framerates

higher Hz also semi-solves the issue by reducing the time difference between refresh and draw but then 144hz would probably be better, but I haven't seen any 144hz monitors in that price range with a dpi > 100

the r4 comes with one intake fan and one exhaust fan. should be sufficient. If you don't like your temps, an additional 120mm/140mm fan should be easy to install later.

As to the graphics card, the Zotac Amp! Edition 1080 is currently going for $584 from B&H photo. If you're close to New York City, you get free one-day shipping from them usually. I like them. The main difference between graphics cards of the same chipset is cooling solution, features like lighting / extra fan control, and factory-applied overclocks. If you don't know what any of that means or don't care, go for the cheapest one from a brand you trust. Or whichever one you like the asthetics of if you have a windowed case.

So maybe a dumb question but how much of a hassle would it be to change cpu and mobo from AMD to Intel?

I went pretty poorfag on my pc when I built it a few years ago and I got a pretty shit mobo. Turns out that it couldn't even support a FX-8350 if I even wanted one, so I'm 99% decided that if I need to get a new mobo then I will just go with Intel and most likely get an i5, I think i7 would be overkill. Is this gonna be a huge hassle for me?
also what are some good mid range intel mobos
Linux has pretty robust Steam support thanks to Glorious Lord Gaben. If the specific games you want don't have support, there's always Kinguin. It's valid key re-selling. It's sort of a legal grey area though.

I liked the minimalist gray BIOS Gigabyte had for Skylake. The Kaby Lake BIOS is a red and black mess that looks like MSI. No rollbacks either, so I'm stuck with this forever now. I know this doesn't matter at all but wow they completely ruined their aesthetic.

Is crossfire worth it?

I'm considering buying up two RX 480's today.

I have a 1080p 144hz freesync monitor, and I'd like to have a higher framerate in more games than I do now. Should I go for it? And should I get the cards in 4GB or 8GB?
>>
>>57675781
>https://pcpartpicker.com/list/HgPkgL
thats a decent psu, but unless you intend to do a second 1080 in the future, you can do 650w easily and save a bit of cash, accounting for the possible overclock on the 6700k too

windows on a usb is the same as windows on a cd really, nothing different besides the physical media

make sure to use usb 3.0 on the motherboard though, 2.0 is slow of course but front panel 3.0 might be slow without installing mobo drivers first
that was just my personal experience with doing a bunch of system builds for office desktops where i work, halfway through i found that using mobo 3.0 was much faster than front io 3.0 because without the newest motherboard drivers installed it was running at 2.0 speeds

but thats just my personal experience, i presume it would vary by motherboard

honestly though, might as well go CD anyway, a disk drive is like 20$ and is pretty useful for a bunch of stuff still, no harm in going cd if its any cheaper or if you can get OEM copies for a bit less than the USB
>>
>>57675659
newer architecture, cheaper price, less of a space heater
>>
>>57675822
It's typically not worth it unless you have money to burn and want two top-tier cards to get more performance than is possible with a single card. Unfortunately AMD doesn't have their 490 out yet. Dual-card setups aren't supported by all games and a lot of games need to patch in support after launch. If you need to play AAA games on launch more than likely one card will be sitting there useless for a couple of months. There's also microstuttering issues in some games which is annoying. So yeah be aware of what you're in for, look up games you play frequently and see how well dual cards scale. I know Nvidia you can force some games to work with SLI in Nvidia Inspector, not sure if there's an AMD equivalent.
>>
>>57675822
if youre gonna crossfire go 8gb, im not 100% sure on what its like with crossfireX, but i dont think vram stacks together
rx480's seem to scale well in crossfire according to user reviews, very noticeable performance gains

for the time being, i say go with one card, and if you feel like you can do better or if a single card isnt getting you a high enough framerate to fully utilize 144hz, get a second

but if one works fine, no need to crossfire

Are you using it for gaming? yes? Don't buy amd right now. Skylake beats the shit out of Amd for gaming. An i3-6100 beats a fx 8350. You're only sabotaging yourself. If you want amd so desperately, wait for zen. But in Novemer 2016, amd cpu's are horrible purchases. I'm speaking as somebody who owned an Fx 8350 overclocked to 4.4 for games. It sucked. I'm assuming from the "sodding" you're a britbong, I really don't care enough to search how much stuff costs there in bongland but at that pricepoint I would recommend a GTX 1070 graphics card and an i5 6500 cpu, and a motherboard with the prefix z170-a, as well has 8gb of ram. Make sure everything is ATX form factor, and make sure your psu is rated to support whatever you end up on. Now go and use that searchbar at the top of your screen and trying thinking for yourself, desu.
>>
Is there really much of a difference between the GTX 1070 and 1080 to justify the price difference? They seem to perform pretty similarly in the benchmarks I've seen.

logicalincrements.com

alienware is shit, their margins for part value to resale value are extremely high, and if you were going to get a prebuilt, there are much better options where the margin is more like 100$ rather than 1000$. Bestbuy has something right now with an amd fx 8350, an rx 480, 8gb of ram and shit for like 600$, so a 100$ "im lazy" tax

building a pc is easy, things only fit one way in one slot, most things come with installation directions, the Internet is an endless well of information on this kind of shit
watch a Linus Tech Tips build log to see the entire process from start to finish in about 40 minutes
as far as monitors go, find a decent acer 1080p screen on newegg or something for 100-150$
at 1-1.5k eurobux though, you could probably do 1440p if you paired it with the right gpu

so with logicalincrements, pick something around 300 britbux cheaper than your budget allows for the whole build, so you can use that money for a good monitor, keyboard, mouse, headphones, etc

pcpartpicker of course is a site that allows you to easily compatibility check and price check parts in a system
also, falcofag can you make your site less fucking bloated for gods sake, this is /g/, half of us are still using the pentium 3 architecture
>>
>>57676204

>>
>>57676194
There's a difference of ~30% performance. You're better off crossfiring two 1070s for just over the price of a 1080 if all you're worried about is performance.

and just some general shit for pc building

unless you are overclocking, an aftermarket cooler is not 100% needed, performance gains will be there, but the cooler is designed to handle that processor at that clock speed anyway

dont skimp on the power supply, cheap power supplies cause housefires, rarely, but more often they kill components or damage them due to fluctuations in power output

read shitloads of user reviews, ask /g/, we're assholes but someone will give you consumer advice so long as youre in the right thread, just to make sure the parts youre picking are the ones best suited for you
example, dont pair an i7 6700k with a 750ti graphics card, thats retarded, it will work but god danm why
(shoutout to the anon who did this, and spent 200$ on a 750ti in the process)

take your time and do things right the first time, coming back after getting two billion post errors or failure to boot because something wasnt plugged in right or some shit is never fun

never forget about airflow and cooling
your average consumer desktop or laptop doesnt get that hot, hell, some laptops can reach 70c and the fan wont even kick on, enthusiast tier desktops are much different, they put out alot of heat, temperature greatly effects how well they perform, and keeping a system cool is always beneficial
as stated above, an aftermarket cooler isnt really a necessity at first, but an intake fan in the front and an exhaust fan in the back is a must just for the sake of keeping the inside of your pc from turning into an e-z bake oven

$40 I think?
It's marketed as a high bandwidth bridge.
Other bridges will also work, just with slightly diminished performance, some cards come with a compatible bridge.
But if you're going to spend upwards of $800-900 on 2 1070s, it's not like another 40 is going to break you.
A single 1080 is probably the better choice at this point in time anyways.

Cores don't matter as much for gaming. Most games don't utilize more than 2 cores anyway, so having more for budget builds is pointless.
