People should post their completed builds edition
Post your component list, rate other anons', ask questions in general.

Always state the purpose of your PC, your budget, AND YOUR COUNTRY if outside the USA.
If you are asking for improvements, clarify whether you want to lower price or to improve specs or build quality.

If I decide to bump it up to an i7, will I have to upgrade anything else? I was thinking maybe a better HSF? I'm not big into overclocking personally.

Looking to upgrade from i7 x980 and r9 290 tri x going for 1440p gaming.

How does i7-6800k + a 1070 sound? Need good CPU for playing games like squad and total war. Mini itx.

Hi again /pcbg/, is this build acceptable for for very light 1080p gaming (MMORPGs), photo-editing, watching movies, and browsing the web?

Should I consider downgrading the GPU to save money, since I'm a poorfag and I'm coming from a mobile GPU (750M) i.e. virtually anything would be a massive upgrade?

If you had to choose between this monitor
>https://www.amazon.com/Asus-VX248H-24-Inch-1920x1080-Monitor/dp/B00GMGHCVG
or this monitor
>https://www.amazon.com/Acer-R240HY-bidx-23-8-Inch-Widescreen/dp/B0148NNKTC
which would you choose and why?
If you wouldn't choose either, due to brand, ppi, panel type etc., could you specify why?

For better prices, should I wait for Cyber Monday/Black Friday, or go ahead and purchase the main parts now?
I'm considering waiting until those days to buy a monitor and keyboard, but beyond that I'm leaning towards just outright buying the parts I already know I want/need.

What do you mean? Hdds aren't that expensive to begin with. WD cb 1tb is usually near $50 and hgst 1tb drives are closer to $40. Unless you mean you want to save more than $10 on higher end ones?

Looking to upgrade my old AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition. Would the FX-8350 Black Edition Vishera be a substantial upgrade?

I'm stuck with my old AM3+ chipset, so it'll have to be AMD. Are there any better AMD CPUs out there for the money?
>>
>>57656720
Depends what you're looking for, the larger WD and Seagate drives can occasionally see decent sales, but smaller HDDs in the 1-2TB range are fairly stable in price.
>>
>>57657111
That's pretty much your only option.
It will be about 15% faster per clock, and have 8 cores instead of 4.

But for anything that is only using 1-4 cores, the 8350 will only be a slight upgrade. If what you are doing can use all 8 threads, then the 8350 will be about twice as fast.
>>
>>57657033
BF/CM sales are shitty, probably just on monitors and ssds, perhaps some rebates instead of actual sales too. Ram has gotten more expensive, and newegg especially has been doing some dumb "sales" except they're going to do 1tb samsung 850 evo for ~$230 I think. For you, I think you would be better off buying parts like the cpu and mobo now, wait a little on the psu since there will be sales on various units leading up to christmas, and if you have a microcenter or frys near you, you'd better haul ass and buy from them instead of online retailers.
>>
I have a couple ideas in mind

I can head to Microcenter in cambridge this weekend to pick up a 6600k for $180 (150 if I buy a mobo same time) and a mid tier Z170 mobo. Id like to also purchase ram the same time as I could then cannibalize my current rig and use parts on the new one until I have the $ to finish the new build, but I doubt ill have enough.

I was also considering just buying an older 8320e and an AM3 990 board, and order a 470 next paycheck keeping the rest of my hardware until a few months after zen.

Current rig

Athlon 750k
fm2 mobo
7870le
120gb ssd
1tb HDD

I would love the 6600k now ofcorse but i cant use my entire paycheck, esp when it still woldnt be enough to put together an up and running rig this weekend.

I mostly do some light 1080p gaming, wow/overwatch/bf1 I would like to do some video recording/editing and upgrade to a 1440p 28"+ monitor soon
>>
>>57657033
no that's a great deal for the card. honestly i might even get it i didnt know there was a 480 for 170

looking back on my amazon orders i apparently got this monitor for 79.99
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0098Y77U0/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
i guess i got a great deal for it. anyway i love it and its great. nothing wrong it just fantastic

you might as well wait another 2 days and see if any deals pop up
>>
I'm gonna buy a PC with i3-3220 and 4 GB ram and a great mobo for 90 euro. I'm upgrading from a Core2Duo E7500. Will I see any difference and is it expensive or cheap?

>>57657234
i mean a computer under 100 bucks made 4 years ago isnt too bad. if youre gunna be gaming its not gunna be the best but itll get you shitposting up to speed
>>
>>57657140
This rig I use mostly for games. I'm guessing eight cores wouldn't really help with that, would it?

Does AMD really have nothing better?
>>
Powercolor has a 480 with 4gb of ram but it must be damn new as I cant find a single review on it, all the results are for the 470.

Currently on sale for $170 I cant see how this wouldnt be the greatest bang for buck 1080p card ever but I dont get my check til Fri :/
>>
>>57657278
Nothing until Zen which wont be for another ~2 months.

And will require the AM4 socket and DDR4 RAM.

Many AAA games from the last year have been using more and more cores, so the FX8350 might be enough for you, but it will be dependent on the games you play.
>>
>>57657278
Only in certain games. DX12 has recently breathed new life into the FX line since it makes use of more threads more efficiently in new games, but this is still the exception and not the rule.

AMD's new CPU is coming out in a few months but of course that will be a whole new chipset.

Side note: Not all AM3+ boards that worked with Phenom II will work for the FX series. I own a Phenom II 555 that's collecting dust now and looked into it at one point in time years ago.
>>
am i really going to notice a difference if i buy a zotac 1050 ti for 129.99 compared to an evga 1050 ti for 144.99

When Intel's new desktop CPU's drop and when Zen finally drops, current gen CPUs will all fall in price, right?

I really want to invest in a new PC, but I can wait a bit if that means saving a bit or even spending a bit more to future proof it a little longer.

The saddest part is that I've heard Intel is going all the way from their current 14nm architecture to 10nm architecture come some time in 2017 (probably 2018 though tbqh). 10nm architecture CPU's would be so fucking power efficient and if they keep the current like ~80w rating with that architecture it should gain a substantial amount of power. Too bad with the amount of R&D going into 10nm that they'll for sure charge an arm and a leg

Thoughts? My current idea is to just wait until new CPUs drop in the next couple months and then re-weigh my options

Need advice for buying PC parts as an Australian

>amazon has cheap prices
>half the parts don't ship to Australia
>if they do then the shipping is fucked

>the few Australian PC retailers that sell parts know the lack of diversity in the Australian market so they purposely hike prices
>get taxed on everything because a PC setup cost a lot
>still have to pay ridiculous amounts for shipping

People living in/around Europe, Asia, America have no idea how fucked it is to get shit shipped to a shit posting island on the other side of the world

>>57657373
>current gen CPUs will all fall in price, right?
At least with intel, that's generally not how it works outside of some sales here and there. Historically they've held their prices +/- $20 where they have always been as supplies dry up and the new chips make their way to market.

For example, I bought a 5820k last August for $379 and it's actually gone up in price to $389 over a whole year later.

Intel's new arch for consumers, Kaby Lake, offers no IPC improvement over Skylake. It's just a stopgap 14nm chip with a few features added in. Doubtful we'll see Cannonlake until 2018 at this point.

If you need a PC then you need a PC so I don't see much sense in waiting. You basically get what you pay for at this point, though I suppose Zen could shake things up a bit.

Someone give me a good site for comparing CPU in terms of gay men performance
>>
How bad is the i7- 6700HQ, pretty much your only option for mobile processing in gay men laptops?

Especially in something with proper cooling like the new alienware, Passmark gives it shitty score compared to a 980x
>>
>>57657402
If you can get it for a good price then go for it, just don't expect crazy boosts in performance outside of DX12 games/multithreaded programs but I hope it works out for you. Honestly if I were in your shoes and I had stuck with my Phenom I probably would have done the same if my mobo could have handled the switch.

>>57657489
The clickbait sites like cpuboss are fucking shit and filled with misinformation and comparisons that make no sense. There is no magic site for what you want. Check logicalincrements.com for a general buying guide or just get gud by reading reviews on places like Anandtech/Tom's Hardware.

it's just a low clocked quad core with hyperthreading, it has low TDP generally so it can't turbo up super high like a desktop quad core.
>>
So, I'm mainly looking into 1080p gaming and I was wondering if I am overdoing it with this unfinished build so far? Can I get some feedback and maybe some improvements as well? Also, no totally sure what I should get for a mobo sine it's a bit overwhelming to look at on pcpart. Are any of the the Z170's considered to be generally fine? I'm "aiming" at $1k as my budget.

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/M3qXYr
>>
>>57657517
The 980x has 6 cores and 12 threads and is an old-ass powersucking monster with 3x the TDP of the 6700HQ.

It makes no sense to compare their Passmark scores. Anyway, what >>57657550 said is true, you're going to be throttled to hell in any "gaming laptop". Don't fucking do it.

Yeah I've already given up the laptop now, the only thing good for laptops is a 1060 in something just for fun but that's another story.

Thinking more about it, I think im going to go with an 8320e and an MSI 970 Gaming AM3+ I can actually bundle it and only pay $120 for both.

Its just going to upgrade my current rig, reusing everything but the cpu/mobo and case as I am buying a new case soon as well and Ill likely end up with a 470 or 480 4gb in a couple weeks.

I think ill be happy with it, should be much better then my athlon 750k
>>
>>57657483
Yeah fair point, I'm guessing Zen will only shake things up in the lower end of the CPU market. And even then I'm sure even the new Zen CPUs will be nowhere near as power efficient as Intel's chips; will have to wait and see though.

Only problem is I'm this guy >>57657443 so a nice ITX, i5-6600k, 1070 build with a nice monitor will set me back about $2800 AUD which is like $2100 USD.

Still not sure if in pic related "Inc GST: $226" means it is included in the $2487 total, or if it's a charge which will be included on top of that cost making it $226 more expensive?

Either way if you were American you'd get all my picked out parts way cheaper, could probably find better parts with better deals and shipping would be free :(
>>
>>57657156
>wait a little on the psu since there will be sales on various units leading up to christmas
My current computer is consistently having HDD issues, to the point where I can't turn the computer off without a strong risk of it not turning back on. Should I still wait on deals for non-mobo/cpu parts, or should I try to put it together ASAP even if it means spending a bit more money?
>>
>>57657763
Honestly it's up to you. I don't know what you want out of your pc and I don't want to tell you take gambles on waiting for prices to drop, but if you feel you can get a good deal on a psu then it's all up to you.

I would look into the hdd itself for that issue you say you're having. I'd be concerned that it's more than a psu issue desu.

so if youre just playing vidya i dont think you really need the i7. that case is fine, i mean all cases are fine. ya know?

as far as the cooler the cryorig cools better and is quieter so id have to recommend it instead

i feel like anything with the label "gaming" on it is a meme

the ram doesnt have to be 3k, 2666 to 3k is probably like a 2% increase in performance

youre gunna want an hdd. i only use my ssd for booting windows and very critical programs. i slap pretty much everything else onto my hdd

i didnt touch your video card. i feel like thats a very personal choice and i respect your opinions

titanium is kind of overkill and you could probably save half the cost on your psu. but titanium > gold so i cant really argue that

i just tossed a very generic, highly rated case. i have the 88r for my build and i love it

I'm torn between these 2 NVME based SSDs. Real world use, the Intel 600p is double the capacity for less money and performs very well but on paper is roughly 50% as fast as the Samsung. Would I benefit from the faster drive? Looking to use as a dedicated game install drive.

>>57658996
Doesn't seem like your case is compatible with my build, so I'll go with the fractal.

I know what you meme. Thanks, I'll go with the one you picked.

I plan to use the hdd in my current build, which is 6tb. So I'll want to buy just the sdd. I decided I might as well go for a high storage capacity too

My video card wasn't chosen on personal preference. Got any alternatives? I don't mind going higher in price for graphics if I can get consistent 60 fps and 1440p

I figure psu is important and that I shouldn't spare a lot of expense if I want an efficient and stable psu. I'll stick with my decision for titanium

Thanks for the help guys. So far it looks like this will be my final shopping list. I'm a little unsure about the video card and if I'll suffer in the long run for choosing i5 instead of i7. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/k9Y7pb

Intel 3.70 GHz Core i3
Kingston HyperX FURY 8GB kit
Intel H110 Micro ATX DDR4 Motherboard
GTX 1050
EVGA 430 watt
120GB SATA III internal SSD
WD blue 1TB

Sorry I'm really new to this and I haven't built a PC before. The total right now is 496$ and I was just wondering if I could lower the cost while still making it a semi decent rig.

The Zotac AMP! Extreme as a higher Corr clock and better cooling, but it takes my power and is over a foot long. There's also the AMP! Edition 1080 which has a slightly lower core clock but is ~$80 cheaper than the AMP! Extreme and only has two fans.

Don't listen to the above retards. An SSD is basically indispensable in 2016. Being limited to the speed of a plate spinning at 7200 rpm is the dumbest shit ever.

People that don't use SSDs are poorfag trash that have nothing better to do than sit around waiting for their PC/games/browser/anything to boot. If anything, don't buy an HDD, just scrounge around for one somewhere. HDD technology literally hasn't changed in like 15 fucking years, I'm sure you can find one somewhere.

You benefit from SSD at any processor, and an i3 isn't even slow anyway just doesn't have the extra cores.

SSD WILL reduce boot times and WILL make shit like chrome run faster WILL make your shitposting images folder synced to google drive open faster.

i'm sure he can compromise on a minute or 21 of his life.

do you have any reading comprehension?
>>
>>57659556
Like I said before, your entire user experience is tied to your OS which should be on an SSD in the >CURRENT YEAR. SSDs are reliable enough and if you aren't stupid you're backing your shit up as a clone on an hdd or as an image file, something you should be doing regardless of SSD/HDD.

It's $40 for a fucking Sandisk Ultra 120 GB SSD right now. High tier? No, but 10x faster than an HDD and worth forty bucks.

i3 or not, it's completely irrelevant. I wouldn't use a Core2 Duo system without an SSD holding the OS at this point. There is zero excuse. If anon wants to cut cost he should cut the HDD and scrounge one from somewhere or cut the nearly useless 1050ti and use integrated graphics until he recovers from blowing an entire forty fucking dollars on his SSD.

So my desktop is dead, it died twice actually. Because i kept buying shitty used parts and low end stuff.
My mistake was buying low end, adding a nice component here and there, effectively replacing all my parts at one point or another. I bought 4 gpus, going from a gt 430, 750ti, rx 460 and r9 280x
For all the monry i spent on 4 gpus i could have bought a gtx 1080 now

1. You linked the general link and not your list
2. It's not hard to overclock ram you just have to pick the frequency in bios and that's that.
3. I don't know what the actual fuck you're gonna do with 32 GB of RAM but who am i to pry. Thing is the extra frequency will do nothing for you. It's inconsistent as fuck as far as actual gains you get from having higher frequency and generally speaking the improvements you get are so little it's not even worth bothering getting anything more than 2133.

4. Again i am not sure what 32 gigs of ram will do for you but what i would do is get 16 @ 2133 and use the difference to get either a i7 or 1070.

Guess I should have stated but nbd, I'll be running multiple VMs in parallel for school, specifically in an environment where I'll be practicing pentesting and forensics. I know the amount of RAM is important but I don't know if speed is. If its not I can shave off some $$$. Also is non-gaymer RAM really that hard to find? Brands to look for?

I was in that boat earlier, between an i5 and i7. I dropped budget for the i5 because I don't know if the performance gain is worth the cash. Additionally I don't think I can fit a 1070 in unfortunately, which is a bummer.

Thanks for the feedback though.

There is non gaymer ram, basically the green sticks that either crucial or kingston sells but from what i see corsairs are cheaper.

Frequency makes 0-1% difference in day to day applications. Honestly it's not even worth getting DDR4 over DDR3 99% of the time. RAM is the biggest marketing fiasco of them all. Their failure rate is next to 0 regardless of brand, flashy shit that's on them, or "cooling". Didn't bother much watching all the video cause i am at work but it should cover what i said.

Kaby Lake is basically skylake with higher clocks. PCI-e 3.0 still makes no difference for gaming as long as your MOBO has at least 8 lanes for the GPU.

thing is a 1070 her costs at least 500E, while the RX480 costs 270-330, so it's out of my budget. The real competitor would be a 1060 (or a 970) for that price, and I'm not 100% convinced on what to buy

I'll check that processor tho
>>
>>57657030
Depends on what kind of FPS you want. If you're happy with your ceiling being 60FPS for max settings on most games then the 6800K + 1070 will be fine for 1440p. Only consideration you will need to make is what Hz the monitor is running at. Anything above 60 is then pointless because you won't be able to hit above 60FPS on most games on max, unless you turn down the settings.

If you want a solid 60FPS and above on most games at max settings with a 1440p monitor, you'll want a GTX 1080, which will give you at least 60FPS on most games at max settings. Consideration for this is the Hz of the monitor, you'll want maybe a 144hz monitor, or an OCd 60Hz to about 70-80Hz.

Personally I would go for for the latter, but it all depends what you want and how you game. Also, consider a 6700k instead of the 6800k, it's good enough for CPU intensive games and is even considered a bit overkill.

Related to part buying, is a Financial Aid refund issued once or per semester/quarter? Note its not a loan refund.

I received a need-based Pell Grant in addition to dislocated worker funds. The Pell Grant is calculated first and then worker retraining. The result is my school is essentially paid for and I received a check for what the school calls "education-related expenses."

I'm planning on spending a portion of the refund on new computer parts as I am taking an IT professional program. My question is for those with experience, will this refund check be issued each semester/quarter or just once?

I realize I should simply ask the college, and I will.

I havent upgraded my shitty PC in years now and it is getting to the point now where I just have to upgrade something, the poor thing is starting to struggle handling a lot of games I want to play.

Pic related are my specs, where should I start?

I don't have much money right now so I'm looking for the upgrade that is the cheapest and also bumps up my FPS the most.

My monitor is only 1366x768 so I don't think I'll need anything massively powerful, I just want something that can play games like GTA V on a stable framerate.

Also I am wondering if I would get a 8GB stick or 2 4GB sticks? If i get the 8GB can I then still use one 2GB stick for a total of 10GB? Not sure if that would actually work or the difference in speed/size would be an issue.

dual channel isn't that important so you can just stick another one in there, just make sure it's the same speed or faster or it'll slow down

if you care you could always get another matching set, that should preserve the dual channel

http://www.microcenter.com/product/451887/Core_i5-6500_SkyLake_32GHz_LGA_1151_Boxed_Processor

i5 6500 for 170. you cant beat this. if you have access to a micro center you need to get this. i honestly wish i waited till black friday cause these deals are insane. also if you get a mobo they take 30 bucks off your purchase. so lets just assume you do that

http://www.microcenter.com/product/458730/GA-B150M-DS3H_LGA_1151_mATX_Intel_Motherboard

b150 for 70. you can get the h110 if you wanna save cash but the b150 have 4 slots of ram instead of 2. more room for upgrades.

so 70+170=240. take off 30 and now were at 210. they also sell 1tb hdds for 40 bucks. and 120gb ssds for 40 as well. while youre there im sure you can find 8bg of ram for 30-40 bucks. so now were at 330. a gtx 1050 ti will run you 130 if you get the zotac on newegg

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814500411&cm_re=gtx_1050_ti-_-14-500-411-_-Product

itll let you game at 1080p NO PROBLEM. 330+130 = 460.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811139041&cm_re=corsair_case-_-11-139-041-_-Product

4 bucks off with promo code so 500 flat. then you just need a psu and you can find one either at micro center or on amazon or anywhere. i reccomend the evga 500w. itll be like 40 bucks ish

so for 540 you get a great rig that'll run anything at 1080p

My budget is $140 and i want to buy a gpu but i can't decide if i should go for a cheap GTX 1050ti or an overlockable GTX 1050 non ti, also is a 2gb difference a big deal if i don't plan on playing games with MSAA or with ultra settings?

I am finally making the switch from console gaming to pc gaming and I have always had very little knowledge of computers.

I am trying to branch out of my normal comfort zone and have been doing a little research and I'm still a little confused so I thought I would reach out here for help.

I went to ncix and spoke with someone who put together a parts list based on my budget and what I'm looking to use it for, it's strictly for gaming I have a cheap laptop for everything else.

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/GNVXYr
I am looking for any recommendations for parts to upgrade or if people think it's a pretty solid build.

Any other Canadian bros know if the MSI GTX 1070 will go down in price for this Black Friday/Cyber Monday?

It's about $550~ or so, any chances it'll go to $500? Or should I just pick one up from Memory Express right now?

Hello gentoomen,

I'm in the market for a very basic desktop computer that supports dual monitors (dat dere desktop extension). I pretty much only program and occasionally play steam games from like 10 years ago on it so my standards are pretty low.

I'm seeing quite a few generous deals on amazon and newegg for refurbished desktop computers, but I'd like to know: Should I care that they're refurbished? I'm thinking I can use an extended warranty to cover any parts that break down.

Also: Is there anything I should be looking for in terms of minimum processor speed? I'm looking at $350 for a lenovo thinkcentre M3. It has 1.6GHz quadcore processor, 8GB RAM and 120GB SSD
>>
>>57666422
if you want to have a small computer, anything mATX. any chipset works, but if you want to overclock get z170 and 6500k processor (protip: not worth the money).
if you want to have a big computer, anything ATX.
if you want a tiny computer, mITX but make sure the case supports the GPU length
>>
>>57666477
thank you so much, I know you already helped me a bunuch but would it be possible to link me to where I can find the deals for the i5 6500, and rx480?
>>

sadly i cant, i live in germany and while here we have a shop that has the cheapest price 90% of the time, i dont know about other countries.
just google "pc hardware" or something, pick the highest results, and see where you can find the best stuff.

this a good deal for a starting point with a build?

on sale a 6700k and an 8gb 1070 for a bit over 1000$ seems like a decent deal
obviously add another 8gb stick of ram, better cooler and probably some other upgrades over time but for the parts in it, this seems decent

yes i know about building your own but this looks ok

How can I make this better? Like cheaper and more effective. I like to keep the case and I want the hard drive at 4TB.

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/KVjQf8
>>
>>57666460
pretty basic build. for video editing you could even consider an i7 but the i5 is just fine. the 6500 would be enough probably. psu is overdimensioned but $20 off so it's fine.
>>57666736
also basic, should work well
>>57666771
i5 6500 instead, non k and a non-z170 mainboard. don't buy the 970, wtf? just get a rx480 instead. 8gb ram will be enough also. $230 for a 256gb ssd seems wrong to me, it should be like $70 or even less.
>>
>>57666771
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/2j3XYr

you do not need 750w and a 970 right now is a bad choice when we have decent 1060's that can outperform them for a bit cheaper
(http://gpuboss.com/gpus/GeForce-GTX-970-vs-GeForce-GTX-1060)
a basic AIO will go pretty far and give you ram clearance
any ssd is going to be about the same as far as regular performance and speed goes, you wont notice any difference even if you had a 100$ 240gb adata one but this samsung is a tried and true model
and id reccomend going 8gb for now and upgrading to 16gb in the future if you actually need it
for most shit you wont go above 6gb max usage on most games, but if you get to 7-8 you should then get another 8gb stick

otherwise, dropped it 200$+

>>57666991
get a K processor on a z170 board, invest in a card that can SLI and actually mean something when in SLI, get a better PSU

if the goal is futureproofing
otherwise for 1k its decent, you could drop 144hz if youre only going to do 1080p 60fps anyway to save some cash
>>
>>57666991
i5 6500
gtx1070
8gb ram single stick
any ssd and hdd
any psu around like 500w
cooler master master keys L
any monitor that fits in budget (not a 144hz one with a gpu that can only reach that gps in league of legends)
$1 aliexpress microphone
$30 headphones

cheaper and better in every way

Do I need the liquid cpu cooler? Any other recs for a CPU fan?
>>
>>57667039
i don't need/want to overclock because this is my first pc and don't need to push for performance. also i like msi's bios
>>57667049
idrc about "gaymen" shit. i just saw decent headphones and a microphone for 30 bucks
>>57667056
i'm getting the 144hz because my main game is cs:go where the 144hz will help in a great capacity
>>
>>57667103
liquid cpu cooling is stupid, most tower coolers are actually enough to cool skylake to below 60°c under heavy load even without the fan (completely passive). even for overclocking it's shit. AIOs are louder even.
>>57667134
so if you dont want to overclock, don't get a z170 board. wasted money. if you like MSI's bios that's fine but you don't need a z170 board. also ASUS bios is better still.

>>57667103
no, but its cheaper and can perform pretty good, looks nice too
yes a tower cooler will work fine, theres a reason the 212 evo is so heavily reccomended, shits cheap and works great
but the AIO looks a bit better than that massive noctuna cooler and is gonna keep shit just as cool

bequiet makes really nice coolers if you would want something air, the dark rock pro 3 is probably the best air cooler you can possibly get and its only like 60$
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA68V21E0640

the whole idea behind the brand is quiet and that thing is nearly silent with their fancy fans
and they look beautiful

for more a budget at the expense of some performane and looks, you can get the pure rock series, which is alot cheaper and performs extremely well still, with the same quality you expect from bequiet
then theres specific stuff like the slim towers, the low profile cooler, which is nice but it covers ram slots, so LP ram is a must
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA68V2326642

the AIO is cheap, effective and looks good
yes liquid cooling is dumb, an AIO is a bit of a mix of "wow youre retarded for liquid cooling" and "at least it was easy and simple"

but your mainboard is micro atx, so you can build a nice small computer, but your case is full atx, so if you pick a different one you can go a lot smaller in size. and a new cpu cooler would be a nice addition if you don't like noise.
>>
>>57667496

>>
>>57667622
fa_m you don't need anything more than a i3 6100. not even kidding. it sounds like a bad processor but it can handle 1080p gaming almost as good as an i7 without a $400+ graphics card.

i3 6100
4/8 gb ram
rx470/460

>>57667650
this is nice, no compability issues.
big hands should not be a problem, dont worry.
if you want to play at higher resolution than 1080p you might want to consider the 8gb rx480 instead, but it's not really needed. you can run 1080p 60fps on maximum settings on most games now.

>>57667708
they are some of the worst actually. the best are xfx and asus, msi if you want to build cheap.
>>
>>57667622
also slow loading software is because netbooks always have horrible, horrible slow HDDs. add an SSD and it will be gone no problem. the CPU does not really have an influence on that.
>>
>>57667729
I'm fine with 1080p desu it'll be a huge upgrade for me as I've been playing games on sub 720p resolutions for the most part.

do you think I should wait until cyber Monday to potentially get even lower prices on this build?

What's a good PC case for someone who wants a simple but sleak look? I'm building a PC for my cousin who is just going to use it for business and occasional movie watching.
>>
>>57667899
not sure, of course with ram and mainboard it does not really matter what parts exactly you get so i'd wait and see what parts go on sale and check if it's worth switching them out.
>>57667935
even more then is a 6100 and 460/470/1050(ti) perfect for you.
>>57667938
you still have a z170 mainboard even though your ram is low speed and your processor is non-k. just get a lower chipset, it will save you good money. other than that it's good
>>
>>57667708
Zotac has the best performance out there but has a shit warranty, MSI is the tried and true jus werks brand, gigabyte and evga are bottom tier shit
palit really isnt popular enough to judge on them as a whole, i never hear much about palit card problems or issues with their company so id presume theyre probably fine, not sure what id rank them as though
>>
So if I'm not planning on overclocking then should I not get a Z170 mobo? Would it be a terrible idea to get one anyways for the sake of it?
>>
>>57657111
At least wait until Zen is out then you'll get it dirt cheap.
>>
>>57668012
I'll wait and see, hopefully I can snag some top tier deals.

by the way anon thank you for the help you're really awesome!
>>
>>57668063
there is no downside apart from the higher cost. but it is possible to overclock non-k skylake CPUs with specific BIOS versions, so if you want to overclock someday, you can still do it with the CPU you chose, you will just not have the newest BIOS.
if the price difference between this board and another one that you like is small, it's fine to get the z170.

just sort out the ones that wont work for you and see whats left.
you want color coding? look at all the nice coloured mainboards.
you want matx/itx? sort out all full atx boards.
you want dual gpu? sort out the business chipsets.

for 80% of people, the cheapest mainboards will do just fine. just check the chipsets (h170, h110, z170 and so on) and see what you need (they differ in sata ports, usb 3.0 ports, audio channels...)
>>
