So whats the deal with all that chinese backdoor stuff I hear? I really dont care if the chinese have any of my information as the US governement probably already does, but are they using the phones as a botnet in any way that would drain battery/data or cause slowdown?

I'm looking into the 2gb version of the Redmi note 3 pro.
I have a Z3 now but the battery is dying and I dont need anything more powerful just with better battery.

So if I download the global dev ROM I can just flash it without unlocking then?
>>
>>57649565
Yes you can flash global rom via EDL.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NNhdQT9Ivu0&list=PLaPvcEA8BA-J9_3mmzhwE5TGRU53q3oux&index=3

if you want CM13 you can do that:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Xiaomi/comments/5611tg/psa_you_can_flash_twrp_and_subsequently_cm13/

from what I father CM13 is still beta on the Mi5.

If you do get the unlcok code, you should first flash Global Dev via EDL mode, then unlock the bootloader, then flash Cofface's TWRP and then flash SuperSU in TWRP for root.

I have the OP3 and I switched from a nexus 4. In my experience the screen is quite good (I like the amoled blacks) I don't notice any downside of the 1080p. If you find the colors too saturated you can also enable the srgb mode. I didn't notice any bugs in the software. I can describe the experience as using a stock like custom rom. It is very much like stock but has some really useful built in features such as double tap to wake, switching between on screen and capacitive buttons etc. For me the battery life had been really good and the dash charger is amazingly fast. Overall I'd recommend the OP3(T)

What apps do people here use to get the most out of their battery before needing to charge?

Right now I'm running CM13 (went through permissions and turned off most of them) with Greenify and Amplify and running Nova. Is there a more battery-friendly launcher out there? (One which still has a reasonable set of features, that is.)
>>

How is the P9 better? They cost exactly the same in my case. Battery isn't an issue for me since they're replaceable, there's even an extra one in the G5 box, and I'm not a heavy user.

Hi, I am looking for a new smartphone to replace my Moto G 1st gen that is aging.
I live in France and will be using it with SFR.
I would like decent headphone jack quality (my moto g one had crackling noise) a good battery life and a good screen. I don't want it to be laggy…
If it can be rooted easily that would be pretty cool and a huge advantage.
My budget is around 200 eur with a margin of let's say 50 eur, if there is an exeptional offer i could add an additional 50 bucks.
The Redmi note 3 pro could be good I think but I don't know if I can have something better for the price…
Thanks !

That made me think that if i already had the note 5 upgrading woud be stupid but since i only have a broken note 3 i am still torn between going to the s7 edge meme or the previously mentioned phone.

For >>57650041 or anyone else looking to get the OP3/T, I've owned the OP3 for almost 5 months now. It is one of the better decisions I've made.
I'm not a heavy user of apps or games, but I do use it for all of my daily tasks. Botnet/Google apps including Keep and Maps 24/7, Youtube hourly, Business Calendars, etc. Hardly any stutters and the only bug I found was having an unresponsive screen when I was at 800 hrs uptime. Rebooted the OP3, and it became so freaking fast again I couldn't see a single problem.

As for the screen, it's fine for what I use it for. I don't ever watch shows or movies on the thing so I don't really look for muh pixels.

Camera is fine. I'm big on snapchat (which works great on this btw, esp compared to my retired 5x), and even the quality there is better than my buddy's 6p. I don't expect big things from the camera though, as the video doesn't have OIS.

I got my sister and gf to buy this phone too and they came from a Galaxy 5 or 6 and the other from an iPhone 4s. Typical big upgrades but they're so happy I convinced them to.

Plus, the xda community is huge and having any down-the-road software problems will be addressed by either One Plus or the community.

Can someone help me decide?

My friend is offering to sell his z3 compact for 130 dollars. He bought it new and used it for a month before switching to Oneplus 2. If not, I think they're 250 new.

Another one I'm looking at is the zenfone 3 laser which costs 200. My brother has the zenfone 2 laser and it's a decent phone from what he says

Finally, Oneplus one. I can get one at a local computer store for 225 usd new. They've had it for a while and that's what I offered and they agreed despite the price tag being 250. Not a huge drop, but its still me saving 25 dollars.

Just ordered an OP3 coming from Lumia 920. Didn't get OP3 because budget and availability (am in Southeast Asia).

I am new to Android, should I flash the ROM etc.? Mind I just want a good phone that should last me for 3-5 years and software support (I know that Oneplus' update usually brings more bug, but at least they still update).

Also I read some threads ago about Micro G. Does it really work like Google Services?

Thanks lads.

How does Nexus 5 holds up for today standards? I know camera is shit, i also know battery is mediocre. While i don't care about camera quality too much, i wonder if N5 can hold up for a day (music playback, hour or two of network browsing, occasional communication).

So my LG crapped out on me and they wouldn't take it back under the one year manufacturer's warranty because it had a tiny crack in the very corner of the screen. I've decided no more LG because apparently this mainboard issue is rampant across a bunch of their models?

I just ordered an Xperia X Compact. How much did I fuck up?

I've never really liked bigger phones, I don't see the value at all so I'm excited to back down to something that's a manageable size. Sup guys stupid question here but still made me wonder mostly because if he wanted to do it he could have done it without me even knowing but who knows.

Would the OnePlus X be a good upgrade from the Nexus 4?

I don't care about fingerprint scanners, NFC, or anything like that, I just want a good looking phone with a good screen and microSD slot that performs on par or better than my Nexus 4 and doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

I'd consider a Xiaomi but the button locations annoy me to no end. I could never use a Samsung for the same reason, although I also just don't like their designs.

i was talking about when i bought a galaxy s6 a year ago

i just called the nearest carrier store, asked if they have it in stock and sell me one outright, they said yes. girl rolled her eyes at me for not buying accessories (told her i already have them), but i paid the full balance with my card and walked out with the phone and receipt

the ones on amazon or ebay don't come with warranty. i can deal with carrier locked ones as long as they work with my carrier, and the unlock codes should be cheap enough if i want to sell it later

im in canada so it makes the story a little different

thinking back it was probably an impulsive purchase. i had the nexus 5, the nexus 6 was shit, and couldn't wait for what would've been the nexus 5x/6p release

In Canada, same as anywhere else in the world, you should be able to get an unlocked phone, with a warranty, for a cheaper price online than you ever would in a B&M store besides some extreme sale. And you won't have to get your autism triggered by salespeople trying to sell you shit.

The benefits of going to a B&M store are interacting with the staff, having them advise you and being able to see/test whatever it is you want to buy. If this isn't important, online will always be cheaper, and there will be more availability as you can ship from anywhere in the world.
>>

I have a 16GB iPhone 6s. Performance wise it's okay. I don't really play games on my phone so that doesn't matter. Camera is kind of shit but I don't take a lot of photos. My main gripe is the storage. I use the blue tooth to play music in my car and with the apps I use frequently that doesn't leave a lot of room for music. I would like to switch to a phone with expandable storage at some point. I would like to at least maintain the level of performance as the 6s.

To summarize:
>blue tooth audio streaming
>expandable storage
>Android
>comparable performance to 6s
>AT&T/US compatible

Cutting corners in construction for aesthetics.
A removable glass back on a phone likely wouldn't bode well for durability and would require additional designing and reinforcing that they don't care to do. The latter half would also go for metal backs. A sealed, solid metal back is much less to manufacture than a mid-frame, back, etc.

Redmi 4 is pretty cheap on gearbest, but there's also the k6000 pro which should be around 120 by now on aliexpress.

Idk about euro, but the zuk z2 pro is still 400 aud cheaper than other devices like the htc10 here in aus while having great specs, screen, battery life, and camera.
>>

Still, if Xiaomi (or a decent competitor) would make a Mi Mix-like phone with 5.5~" screen, it would take a lot to stop me buying it

K6000 Pro has a MT6753 CPU while my current phone has MT6752 which is better. I dunno if it is an upgrade. Also Redmi 4 is 720p which is not 1080p that I currently have.
>>
>>57661914
Still chinkshit, still has a worse screen, worse camera, worse battery life, and more fragile for similar price...

6753 has efficiency improvements and other things were upgraded. You'll see if you check their website, I can't remember.

I've had my Galaxy s4 for 3.5 years. It's got a cracked screen and the power button is finicky. The performance with CM is fine, though, and I could potentially use it for a bit longer, but it's a bit embarrassing.

I guess I'm looking for a great BF deal in order to justify spending $300-$500 to replace a device that still works.

Phones I'm considering:
HTC 10 (/spg/ seems to love it)
Galaxy S7 Edge (overpriced, but also looks pretty, but have been feeling negative towards Samsung recently)
OnePlus 3t (Seems like a good deal -- downside: no sd card)
Redmeme (Downside: scared of getting chinked; I use Tmobile but not sure the 4g will work in Burgerland)

Do rubberized "sitckers" for smartphones exist?

I have Z5C and it doesn't really feel right in hands. Back is very slippery and so, i just got an idea: i'll buy large, universal screen protector, rubber coating spray, then i'll cut screen protector in right size and spray it. In result, i'll have removable, thin layer of rubber for comfortable grip. Does such a thing exists as a product? I'd rather just buy it.

So, i'd recently ordered a zuk 2 pro from gearbest, and after almost a month of waiting they still have no idea on the availability of it and i kind of need to get a new phone asap. They've given me the option of canceling and refunding to the wallet with quite a bit of points added for the inconvenience. Problem is, after doing quite a bit of research the z2 pro was the perfect phone for what i wanted. I guess my first question is, anyone know long it takes for wells fargo to get a refund from gearbest? I suppose it's my fault for not using paypal, but waiting 7-14 days for my refund isn't very appetizing. And second, should i just scoop ZTE Axon 7 mini, or is there anywhere else i could get a zuk z2 pro for a decent price?

so what the fuck happened to the Blu R1 HD? It got rooted then an update locked the bootloader, then chinese spyware was found and the only way to get rid of it and get the Band12 support is to update?

I'm still using my Nexus 5, bought it almost two years ago.

The battery sucks (it always did, it's not degradation).
The camera sucks (both of them).
The storage sucks. I have the 32Gb model, I remember hearing that it's almost twice as slow as the already slow 16Gb model. System encryption actually lowers write speeds to 0.5MB/s, absolutely retarded.
It's getting quite slow relative to mid range phones nowadays.
The glossy letters on the back have fallen off (some did, I removed the rest to make it look uniform. it's nice and matte now, I don't mind)

But aside from that, it's a good phone. If I had a worse phone right now, I'd probably buy Nexus 5 for 50-70$. Anything more than that can get you a better phone from our chinese friends. I'm hoping they can sell me a Xiaomi Mi5/Mi5s or OnePlus 3/3T later on when I finally decide to switch.

And yeah, I'd say it's the second best looking Nexus phone, the first one being Nexus 6P, but it's a close first because 5X/6P are ugly from the front.

htc 10 for longer support and roms
s7e for edginess
op3t for longer support but no sd card slot
redmeme for redmeme if you want a cheap phone. Check the willmyphonework link in the op to see if the redmeme works with your provider.

I need to replace my Note 4. I haven't browsed /g/ in a while or had any interest in smartphones, but it's Black Friday tomorrow so it might be the right time. What do I get?

HTC 10
>Pros: Good price, warranty, stats.
>Cons: Small screen, HTC = AMD of phone manufacturers.

OnePlus 3T
>Pros: Excellent price and stats.
>Cons: Some /g/entlemen claim it's low quality, has chinese botnet and shit customer service.

iPhone 7 Plus
>Pros: Security + productivity environment
>Cons: Hard for piracy on the air (no torrenting, file browsers) and potential planned obsolescence.

My main problem is that none offer wireless charging and I found my Note 4 port suffers some quite heavy wear and tear. I also like playing Chess on my phone using the S-pen, but no flagship seems to offer that.

I've never used iOS, so I'd appreciate some input from those of you who've used both and switched at some point.
>>
>>57665809
you can't really knock iOS for planned obsolescence with the current state of Android OS updates (shitty)

that said, of those three choices I'd flip a coin between HTC 10 or OnePlus 3T. no headphone jack is personally a deal breaker

LG g3 is pretty bad, the screen is low quality, dim, and the hardware has hiccups with the QHD resolution

I would recommend the LG G4 as its dirt cheap on Swappa
>>
>>57665839
I don't mind the lack of 3.5mm jack - I think they give you a dongle anyway.

I mostly care about:
1. Screen size and quality.
2. Productivity (Spreadsheets, learning apps, audiobooks, .pdfs on the bus/train/airport etc.)
3. Privacy and security. Sadly Android went downhill fast after its peak at 4.4.4. I'm sick & tired of Samsung/Google bloat, data miners and adverts.

Why the fuck do I need the Facebook app if I'm not a user?
Why the fuck do I need 3 browser if I want to use my favourite browser?
Why the fuck do I need an iris scanner (fortunately that piece of shit is dead now)?

OnePlus 1 was great but I think you will feel it's outdated (even more than a Z3 Compact) and I don't know how are updates on that thing.

It's not a huge upgrade over my Zenfone 2, although the smaller body+slightly bigger screen is a plus. It does work well with cricket wireless, but I can't speak for the LTE speed atm because loldatalimit.

Hello, I just got my new Wileyfox Swift 2 Plus a few hours ago. When I took it out of the box I tried turning it on, didn't, thought everything was normal. I plugged it in and tried turning it on, again didn't work. I started to get worried a bit, but I left it for 10 minutes or so. After that I held the power button for about 10 seconds and the screen lit up. The notification LED lights up yellow, and the screen shows that the battery is at 50% and charging. Two seconds later it drops to zero and shows that it's charging again.
30 minutes later, it's still stuck at zero percent. I am using the original cable that came with the box, I tried using an original Samsung charger, a third party charger with Quickcharge 3.0, laptop USB port, powered USB port, nothing seemed to work. I'm gonna leave it overnight now, what am I supposed to do? Did I get anglo'd?
