Uh.... dude.

That's way overkill for Minecraft. Are you trying to recreate the whole planet in Minecraft or something?

Also what kind of Indie games? You're gonna be in the overkill tier as well for games like Shovelknight. Scale that budget to like 400-500 bucks man.

I've posted here before but changed a lot of stuff.

Does anything look dumb here?

Usage will be some Matlab, GIS, CAD and a bit of gayming.

The moba choice is because there's a deal at my vendor atm, not muh gaymer lights.

The m2 ssd was also on a deal, this board can boot from that right?

Don't buy gamer shit. You need way more RAM, don't buy those stupid brand name DIMMs, just get DIMMs with chips from a reputable manufacturer.

And get an i7-6700k, at least.
>>
>>57559916
Yeah I wouldn't disagree with a little extra ram, CAD programs can eat that up (although gaymen ram brands are fine if it's cheap which is usually all is)
And if you have extra money, a 6700k might help with some CAD program exporting and file conversion, but the difference won't be insane for paying at least $100 extra
Besides you could always wait for the 7700k next year if it turns out the 6600k isn't mindblowing, it won't be bad either way

Got any suggestions? Don't know shit about RAM

Had a hunch the i5 would struggle, I'll go with the i7-6700k. Unless there's a better option around the same price?

Thanks for the advice anon

newegg has a 1000w gold PSU for sale for 99$. I was planning on getting an 850w platinum, but that's a full 40$ more.

Should I go for the 1000w, or wait for black friday/cyber monday and see if the 850w plat goes on sale?
>>
>>57560060
Well there's the 5820k which seems to be the hot option but the board is more expensive. I think there's a sale on the 6800k, too, so might look into that. I'm assuming you're doing more than just pissing around in 2D AutoCAD and looking at Google Earth, though.

As for RAM just go with cheapest sticks you can find as long as the chips say Samsung, Hynix, Elpdia, or Micron.

Yes skylake can all boot from NVME drives
The 600p isn't anything absolutely mindblowing though, it's better than anything SATA based but not by much (except sequential reads which have huge gainz)
>>
>>57559916
you will be better off with a samsung 850 evo as the boot drive and an i7-6700k.

that mobo is great
>>
http://pcpartpicker.com/list/jj9x2R

Gaming/multi-window browsing machine. I'd rather not spend too much more than $1000 for the full package. I've adjusted my monitor's price for Black Friday but not those Jet things that are still eligible for the 15% discount. General advice needed.

Is the mobo/wifi card combo good or is there a ~$100 mobo that does the job better (or if either of the individual parts can be switched)?

I'm super paranoid about maybe one day using the optical drive so as much as I'd like to get something like the S340 or Core V21 I want a case with at least one 5.25". I also considered the Corsair 200R and if that case is better despite being for a bigger mobo I'll switch back to that.

PSU recommendations are welcome, I don't really know what I'm doing in that department. If I don't need one that powerful, if I should get a different brand, anything.
>>
>>57560131
It will mostly be 2D CAD for blueprints of buildings and the like. Most of the work I do will be GIS however.

I'll look into the RAM thing but it seems all that is easily available is the gaming Corsair stuff (I'm not in the states).

Is higher speed or lower CAS prefered? 2x16GB 2133MHz CL13 is the same price as 2400MHz CL16 for example...

>>57560162
>>57560262
I can get the 600p for the same price as the 850 evo at the moment actually. Is there any other reason the get the evo? Reliability?
>>
>>57560458
Nah, get the M2 and fill up your mothers slot
It's slightly faster than any SATA anyways
>>
>>57560458
>higher speed or lower CAS?
Both, but latency tends to go up with speed. Frequency/MHz generally wins though, but old 3000mhz ram might have more latency than newer 3000mhz models
>>
>>57560458
You should be able to find 3000mhz 15CAS ram for almost the same price as stock-speed 2133mhz ram
>>
>>57560458
Either will be fine. If Corsair is the cheaper stuff then go for it, it's ok. Even though you're doing 2D cad I'd still recommend going for the i7-6700k, going for a more pedestrian motherboard to save cash, and of course going for more RAM. 32GB will probably suit you.
>>
>>57560537
Don't buy these overclocked modules, they have no guarantees. Buy JEDEC only.
>>
>>57560325
They make slim external optical drives you know
You don't even need to put a 5.25" bay in if you're just reading/writing once in a while
>>
>>57560599
But it's the motherboard that overclocks ram, those are just rated to a certain frequency right?
>>
>>57560620
I didn't even think of that. Sounds good, I'll just buy one if I need one.
>>
>>57560490
>fill up your mothers slot
What did he mean by this?
>>
>>57560637
Except they aren't rated. The chips are manufactured to meet a JEDEC standard. 3000MHz modules are not JEDEC standard. The possible instability isn't really worth it on a work machine.
>>
>>57560697
Well if stable ram is your concern then you should be getting ECC ram
But for a casual normie like me, my speedy ram hasn't failed yet, it's just taking advantage of the motherboards XMP support that you paid for
>>
>>57560731
>Well if stable ram is your concern then you should be getting ECC ram
Wow that's a leap, there.
>But for a casual normie like me

That doesn't look bad for what you're aiming for, if you have a screen right now is wait until Black Friday to get a new monitor (even though there's only like 3 1440p144hz screens one might be on sale, I got a refurbished ROG swift for $500)
EVGA didn't properly cool their 1070s and 1080s this year, I'm sure a new card would be fixed with extra VRM pads but just something to consider
>>
>>57560891
Don't pay for Windows (especially Windows 10 home, which works unregistered forever)
You can get a 600w Seasonic PSU for the same price
>>
>>57560891
Id be more comfortable with two smaller SSDs, you don't want your only one to possibly fail
Or you can get 3 $80 500GB SSDs, put them in raid 5, get 1TB of space, doubled read and write speeds, and a one-drive failsafe
>>

>>
>>57561069
Wow that is overpriced I didn't even see that
A $160 500GB SSD is also overpriced, aren't 850 Evos on sale right now for $100 for 500GB?
>>

>>
>>57561103
250 Gig 850 EVOs are out at 94 bucks

The 160 is what I was referring to, and for the price, not really considering it's performance compared to other SSDs.
>>
>>57561092
7700k? Like you're gonna actually wait to buy a brand new Intel CPU? Good luck with that, it's clear why you won't have any money for other parts
If you meant 6700k then it's probably a good idea to get a 6600k and better video card if you plan on going above 1080p
6700 (and K) has hyperthreading, which is good for programs that take advantage of it (not most games though)
If you don't want to overclock AND need hyperthreading get a 6700
If you don't need hyperthreading or are not sure, get a 6600
If you want to overclock (you should, in a few years it'll be free extra performance) make sure you get a "K" CPU and a Z170 motherboard

How important exactly is RAM speed?

At what price difference is 32gb 3200 ddr4 worth getting over 2400, for example
>>
>>57560866
BSODs, chrome crashing, etc
happened to me
>>
>>57561531
3000mhz is almost always the best price/MHz so that's why it's specifically meme'd
The advantages can vary from situation to situation but ram hogs like photoshop gets faster swapping and ram hog games like console ports tend to get slightly better minimum fps
>>
I know that 60hz to 70hz+ is a very noticeable difference

But what about, for example, 75hz vs 144hz?
>>
>>57561755
It gets to be less and less of a difference, g/freesync makes non-maxed framerates work fine, so I just call anything above 100fps good, it's hard to notice the difference after that desu
But you notice screen tearing immediately, so either make sure your GPU can constantly max out your monitors Hz or half its maximum Hz, or get freesync/gsync
>>
>>57561755
once you play at 144 fps, 60 fps looks like shit. kinda like when you switch from 60 fps to 30 fps (consoles)
>>
>>57560880
Wonderful for Intel, but Intel doesn't guarantee it.
>>
>>57561175
How heavy is the GIS you are doing?
>>
Not the same anon but related question:
Should noticeable tearing be expected on a good graphics card and a 59.something hz monitor? Otherwise my frame rates are good.

Also is anyone here opinionated on that Nvidia GeForce experience program for choosing recommended game settings?
>>
>>57562042
Do NOT use geforce. Download drivers only when you need them, and learn to change settings yourself.
>>
>>57562042
If it's a good graphics card
>>
>>57562109
Okay. I know enough of options menus to get by but I tried the GeForce's "optimized" settings for Overwatch and once in a while it did make fps worse when there's a lot going on.
>>
>>57562169

ram operates at differant speeds. Since 16gb of ram will be obsolete in quite a while (relatively speaking), it is worth paying a little premium to get the one with the best value. 3200mhz at 14 cas is the cutoff before getting serious disminishing returns.

i5-6600 non-k has shit value for the money.
1060 3G for 220 bucks is a rip-off, but you are a good goy, so it doesn't matter.
Antec Earth Watts isn't "bad", but there are better and cheaper options. The 450W also limits you for future updates and reuseability.
>stock cooler
Have fun with your starting jet engine.
>>
>>57569863
>shit value for the money
>rip-off
I don't live in the us and I actually got them at cheaper prices than those so it doesn't matter

>450W also limits you for future updates and reusability

The system should draw around 260w so there is plenty of headroom, and if I'm gonna upgrade something it will probably be the gpu in a few years and since they are getting constantly more efficient I don't see why I would need more than that

>stock cooler
this il probably replace later if its too loud
>>
good yuropean sites to buy from? Stuff is ridiculously expensive in comparison with usa
>>
>>57570042
i5 6600 still has bad value and the GPU is.. yeah..
>I don't see why I would need more than that
If you want to reuse your PSU for an unlocked CPU to OC it and a better GPU (comming equivalents of GTX 1070/1080 and RX480/490) you'll need another PSU.
>this il probably replace later if its too loud
It will be too loud. Get a 212X, some Be Quiet!, Scythe or the DeepCool Gamax 300 if you're a cheap fuck.

I'm considering the following for a first time build (UK).
http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/xYCmFd
Along with whatever SSD is good in price over here. My aim is to try and get a cheap, low power build that still has some upgrade potential in future.

Is this going to be noisy under load with just stock cooling? The processor and graphics card are both low power compared to most, so it'd be fine in terms of functioning, but I'd rather have it quiet.
>>
>>57573629
Personally I'd try to get an RX470 for just a few more bongs. Way better performance. A 1050 is fine though

Eh, I think they'll be even cheaper in a few months. If you don't need it, don't bother. Also why do you even need a 1TB SSD? If storage, just get a platter drive

My main worry is the case size. I need a 20x8.5x21 (LxWxH) size case to fit in my desk. But I dont want to get a case too small that I can't fit all my shit inside it. If situations become dire I can make the space in my desk a little wider but I dont really want to do that if I dont have to.
I'm unsure if thats the best CPU fan, I just picked an option from logical increments.

I've got everything in that list added to a cart on newegg. Should I order things that are on sale now, or wait until black Friday/cyber Monday? I'd like to order everything at once if possible so it all arrives at the same time and costs less to ship. However since I'm replacing my current one, I can order piecemeal if thats a smarter idea.

It's entirely up to them. They're not going to just ignore that they invoiced 10 bucks on a 150 dollar part. If they want to honor it, for whatever reason (I don't think anyone would), then sure. 99% you're not getting it. If it was, say $125, then you'd have a far better chance.

I like everything about my PC except this motherboard is a pile of shit. I have to hard reset every other time I turn it on because it freezes before booting, sometimes 3-5 times or more.

Most times it's just a coinflip if it will boot or not. I'd say 50% of the time it has no problem and then the other 50% it's a fucking bitch. It takes me 5 or 6 minutes of resetting on occasion. I RMA'd the first mobo after it died (it did the same thing with boot looping before outright dying) and this one has pretty much done it from day 1 as well but at least it's "stable" once I'm actually in Windows.

Is it worth investing more in X99? I like my CPU and planned on keeping it for 5+ years but if you guys were in my shoes would you just put up with this like I have been for the past year? I usually only turn it on once a day but I'm just sick of having a "high end" PC with this retarded problem. Updated to the latest BIOS and everything, no difference.

What's a blower?

What's the difference between all these fucking massive radiation designs?

Im so stupid /pcbg/.

I was asking you over and over again about coolers, since SilentiumPC Fera 3 had disturbing hight temperatures, despite two tires to install it, apply pastea nd all.

In the end I bought NH-U12S and THEN I realized how stupid I was.

Fera 3 still had protection foil attached to the bottom part, the one connected to CPU via thermal paste.

Im so stuuuuuuuuuuuuupiiiiiiiiiiiiiiid.

So I basically wasted money, buying another and, lets be honest, expensive cooler.

The only bright side I see is that I didnt gone past 56C in most demanding soft I launched.

There, I just had to say it. You might start laughing now, if you didnt do so yet.

>Faster rpm usually means more airflow, depending on how how or cold your room is it usually also means cools quicker, (check positive and negative pc airflow) also higher rpm means louder

>Water cooling has many variations, the safest is closed loop, like the Nzxt Kraken x41/61 or thecorsair h100i.
The most dangerous are the custom loops, where you have to build your own chanell for water flow using pvc/glass or plastic tubes, this allows for more creativity but unless you have the right fittings, knowledge and experience, do not attempt,

A lot of people use water in their builds, others prefer to use coolants, which are specifically made for dissipation of heat, and aesthetics, some are non conductive, most people out tissue and paper under their loops on first boot to see if there are any leaks.

>A blower is a type of cooler which is usually a reference (stock) cooler from nvidia, this design pulls air in from a few holes in the top of the card and pushes it through the side.
it is very noisy, which is why people go for other brands of cooler (Asus, power color, sapphire, vaporX ect...

>The whole radiation debate had been arround years now, and it relates to every electronic device not just in pc building, you shouldn't be concerned you wont die from it

>Although some coolers on graphics card are very long and heavy, it attaches mainly to the case, which takes a lot of strain from the motherboard, some motherboards tend to sag after time (shitty build quality) it won't affect the performance, but usually people find a way to prob it up, (placing something under) to prevent further damage

>some cpu coolers do cover the ram and even force pressure on the ram, which Is why some of the coolers allow for rotation, the huge ass noctua ones are so unnecessary, ram is usually put in first before the cooler (make sure they are in the right slots or it won't boot)

I need help, should I go for 1440p, ultrawide or 4k?

Productivity is something that comes first, I don't give a fuck if it's 60hz as long as it's a professional looking IPS panel. Gaming is something I don't really care too much about, if I could get modern/future titles to be 60FPS+ on like medium/high settings I'd be happy. I'm not sure how it looks but if it doesn't look too shit I'd probably change the resolution from 4k to 1440p (or 1080p if I have to) while playing games.

I sort of have my heart set on a 4k monitor at the moment just because of its pure screen real estate, feels like you could get a lot more shit done. However, I'm not sure that if you were to get a 27" monitor at 4k it would be really worth it. At what size does 4k actually become worth it, 30"+?

Ultrawide would be nice but the lack of 21:9 content and the black bars that come with that would make me want to kill myself.

And 1080p at any size which would be useful for productivity seems like you'd be able to count the pixels from the other side of the room.

I think my best bet would be to find a nice looking 4k, 60hz, IPS panel that has freesync/gsync between like 40 - 65 hz or some shit; just so my framerate can afford to dip that little bit lower but I any game I play can still manage 60fps.

Can I get some thoughts or help on this decision?
>>
According to psu calculators, a 450 watt psu can handle a 6700k and gtx 1080. Should I get a 600w to be safe?
>>
>>57580697
I don't think so.
>>
>>57585030
If you buy a decent quality PSU, it can stick with you for a long time, as opposed to other components that can easily go obsolete. If you get a decent model, I say go a little higher (which would be the 600) for you. Especially if you consider overclocking the 6700K.
>>
>>57585372
Well I have an ncase so it will be sfx. Getting either the corsair sf450 or sf600. Both are decent quality. 600 is apparently louder according to reviews.
>>
>>57585400
Should've said so beforehand then. Even Corsair's own stats put the 600W model louder than the 450W, so sure, if noise is a concern for you, that may be an issue. Not sure how somebody here could help you with that though, that's a judgement call you'll have to make. Personally, I like to go a little bigger with PSUs in case I want to expand later, but I don't mind noise at all.

Could use some advice on a GPU.

Basically, I don't play that many games that are very modern and demanding at the same time. As such, I'm not sure whether Vulkan would be of great use to me. Still, I do play modern games now and then and would like the majority of them to at least run decently. I don't really know which games would be updated to run with Vulkan, that is my main issue with AMD.

My main concern in general though is HEVC hardware encoding, actually. I never had anything that could do decent hardware encodes. Now I saw the crazy framerates you can reach with Polaris/Pascal, which is often ten times the speed software encoding boasts on my current system. I'm aware the quality with HW encodes isn't exactly the same as SW, but it's still something that's very attractive to me.

Now, I'm not a big Nvidia fan but would ultimately go with the more powerful, sensible choice regardless of fanboyism. The thing is, I read repeatedly that while the RX 480 is capable of the same hardware encoding features as the GTX 1060, apparently AMD still hasn't got the software up to date to actually allow hardware encoding except in some non-public developer builds of some very specific encoders that I don't want to use. I couldn't find any official AMD documentation on that either, while Nvidia had a 10-page PDF with some specifications available. My choice is pretty much just between these two.

What do you think? I'm gravitating towards the 1060 but I'm not entirely sure yet.
>>
>>57585030
Get a SeaSonic or EVGA gold rated 500-600W PSU, they are reasonably priced at most countries and the quality is good.
>>
ayy /g/oys I built this configuration some months afore:
- NZXT H630,
- 4690K with stock cooler,
- Rx480.
I got case vibration problems...
There's only one extra fan in the case (it doesn't make much difference soundwise), the PSU is a long friend of mine and is really silent and otherwise there's two big sata HDDs inside.
There's not much sound to be heard, that's why I went with this case, but the hum is mighty. I can sense it two rooms over. What can I do to mitigate this? Should I move this shit away from the corner of the room? Do I put something extra below the feet?
>>
Recommendations?
Currently my GPU is R7 260X. Is it worth it to just get another so that I can run Crossfire? I heard you can only use Crossfire full-screen, but I've got got two monitors. So would it be worth it to get a second of the same card, or just get a newer card? I would like the option to add another card for Crossfire in the future, but being a poorfag, seems my upgrade cycles are rather long. My budget is ~$200.

Is this extremely overkill for 1080/ 60? I might upgrade to 1440p/60 or 1080 UW high refresh later down the line. I already have the hyper 212 and the hard drives. I have a 24" 1080p 60Hz monitor that is ok, considering I got it for $50. As long as you're staying below 60FPS (to avoid screen tearing) or you can keep a locked 60FPS, you're fine. But especially when you're playing new games (PS4 Pro titles) you won't be able to keep a locked 60FPS and it's choppy when you have vsync on and the game keeps fluctuating between >60 and <60 because vsync forces 60 then 30 and it's stuttery
>>
>>57587419
Also the best option would be to get an 8350 for your socket and upgrade to a 4 core / 8 thread CPU in about a year or a year and a half. Supposedly AMD's eight core CPUs will be 200 - 300.

That 2GB 960 is the reason a lot of games are chugging, although the CPU could definitely be at fault sometimes

Evening chaps, any chance of a critique of my planned system?

http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/Rbk6qk

I already have an OS, SSD, 3 HDDs and monitor, is there anything that I'm making a bad decision on? (Besides building a PC in the UK with the current shitty pricing). I thought about copping a Corsair AIO, but I'm pretty sure the 212 can manage, even with some level of overclocking. Also, the case, would I be better off with a CM Silencio 452?

The GPU is a temporary choice, I haven't decided which 1070 to go for yet. My intended usage is a fair bit of 1440 gaming, but also a lot of graphic design/rendering.

Cheers for any help you can offer.

What should I be looking for in a DVD/blu ray player/burner?

>>
>>57588806
Looks very similar to a system I'm going to build once the new year hits (simply for financial reasons).

Personally wouldn't bother with watercooling. Overclocking may be easier, but a decent air cooler allows for okay overclocking too.

If you're going to do graphic design, you may want to go to 32 GB actually, but that's a "maybe". The way you've done it is maybe smartest, if you find out it's not enough, you can buy two additional RAM modules to go to 32.

PSU could easily be 650W and still be more than safe. No major problems I see with your build though.

In terms of case, I've been extremely happy with my Phanteks Enthoo Pro. Really neat packaging (little plastic box with screws and tons of zipties) and options for cable management. Probably a little more expansive than the one you picked. As long as the measurements fit and you don't care much about aesthetics, most cases should be alright nowadays.

Depends, the main drawbacks with ultrawide are old games lacking the aspect ratio support and 16:9 content, like movies. Personally I haven't seen any high refresh rate ultrawides, either.

1440p is doable at this point with reasonable graphics card purchases. Make sure to get a high refresh rate and some kind a adaptive sync (freesync or gsync).

4K only has 60Hz AFAIK. Also the pixel density is mostly overkill unless you're really close and your monitor is huge.

But you already know all this.
