Good morning /wt/!
I am still bored out of my mind!
Last night i bought a twin penis king quartz for 140eurobux. Does anyone know if i could fit the movt/dial oh the twin penis into pic related? Are the cases exactly the same? Is it heresy to do so?

Is there a watch with solid link bracelet under $150-200?
>>
>>57508511
Can anyone explain the different between solid link and other bracelets?
>>
>>57508552

Well, solid links are sold pieces of steel. Some cheaper bracelets are just hollow folded sheets of metal. I think the OP meant solid end links, that connect the bracelet to the watch with the spring bar, which are again solid, whereas the others are folded.
>>
>>57508511
Probably not, maybe some chink shit.

"In the making of a watch, if
one man make the wheels, another the
spring, another shall engrave the dial-plate
, and another shall make the cases, then
the watch will be better and cheaper, than if the whole work be put upon any one
man." - William Petty circa 1660-1670

So I'm thinking about buying my first mechanical and here in Japan I can get a skx013 for about 200 bucks, on the other hand I'm not sure if I wan to drop that much on my first on, especially as it is re-imported and thus probably coming without a box after being stored in fuck knows where in fuck knows what conditions. Anyway, my question is do you think that watch will continue to increase in price? Or is that mostly for the 007/009. Don't want to miss an opportunity especially as there is pretty much no other small watches in that price range except the Amphibia

A lot of them have disposable movements and snapping caseback at a price where screwing casebacks and serviceable quartz movements should be the norm. The only thing Tissot is good at are those neat plastic red gaskets they use.

But the most disgusting is the second generation T-Touch. Those are rigged to self-destruct if they have their battery replaced outside of a Tissot certified service. The electronics brick themselves for good.

Post the model number of that watch and /wt/ will gladly tell you what's wrong with it.

Same module as the F-91W. According to Wikipedia it was introduced a year before the F-91W. So the Terrorist can be considered a facelifted version of that watch.

>>57510528
The 2892 might be exempt from that (or not >>57510551 )
, as it has a completely different layout for the winding bridge. The lens-shaped post is still there but the whole gear train is sized differently so different forces will be in play.

All movements will have flaws and will at some point need servicing. As far as durability goes Seiko/orient/miyota have movements that are far more durable in the long run, accuracy does vary and the movements as a plain as a sack of rice but it's the simplicity that makes them robust. Etas are great though, solid proven movements with great tolerances and good accuracy. Just remember that if you abuse your watches don't be surprised that you will need to service them more often.

>>57510632
This is an integrated bracelet, those aren't lugs, they're attached to the case with screws.

The real case lugs are underneath.

A lot of people seem to hate this, but I like the way it looks.
Also, this way the bracelet is more than 20mm wide at the lugs, a rarity for Seiko.

Most other Seiko divers are huge chunks of metal with a thin and dainty bracelet slapped on.

>>57510631
Looks fine on that particular wrist, which seems to be an average-sized, non-fat wrist.
>>
>>57510450
Alright, it's not a completely terrible watch, so I'll give the pros and cons for the price you'd pay (300USD)
Pros:
>domed sapphire
>ETA F03.111/F06.111 are nice, jeweled and serviceable movements, with only a sane amount of plastic gears
>316L steel case
>butterfly clasp

Cons:
>30m WR, only splash resistant
>snapping caseback
>date window doesn't reach the edge of the dial, looks cheap, and is a sign that they didn't use the largest (i.e. more expensive) movement possible
>42mm might be too much for an all-dial watch, might look fuck-huge
>no lume

I'd say it's up to you whether it's worth the money, all in all it's one of the better Tissots with no obvious pitfalls or dealbreakers. Personally I'd get a better Jap watch like a Bambino for the money, but if you like that watch get it.

Bike and scooter bike riders: do you ride with your auto?

If not, do you put it in your pocket or your bag.

I commute daily with a scooter bike so I was wondering about this.

I've read dozens of forum pages about this and mostly it comes down to:

- in theory it is harmful
- but in practice, there are dozens of bikers who say that they road regularly for years without any problem

Does anyone have a recommendation for a reasonably priced pilots watch that's rated for at least 5G and has reliable lume?

I've recently started training and I've been told to find a new watch or order one from stores because my current A168 requires another hand to turn on the EL.

I was thinking about getting the Orient Flight, it looks nice enough, but there's no information on the technical stuff.

DOHOHOHO

Find me a Swiss equivalent of something like a marinemaster or transocean with that level of finishing and an in-house movement, at the same price.
>>
>>57512051
It's kind of a tossup between lume and reliability form what I know. Some Marathon watches look nice and rugged, and use tritium vials so you get great lume. I have no idea if they can withstand 5G though.
Orient watches are really cool, pretty average lume, and the movement's are always praised, I bet they could withstand some extra force.

What kind of training is that?

Because I've been operating plenty with my trusty watches, that is a Timex IQ Compass, a Casio AE1200, an Amphibia 090, and a Seiko SKX007, and I had no trouble with Gees with any of those, and that includes a couple car crashes, getting thrown off a bike, and other fun stuff. Really you should be less worried about what your watch can survive and more about how much YOU can survive. Your watch will survive you, rest assured of that, no need to pay extra money just to ensure some fucker will get a nice watch off your dead body.

As for "wow he needs a second hand to turn on the EL", that's fucking autism. With auto-EL quartz, you'd have to flick your wrist anyway, and with lume or tritium, you'd shine like the fucking moon with the shittiest soviet nightvision goggles. If you're operating, you don't want to be emitting any kind of light, because even lume on ironsights can get you spotted.

Stick to a Casio and tell whoever that is to fuck off because the autists at /g/ told you he's wrong. Or if he's really being a cunt about it or you can't avoid it, get a Gshock DW5610 which is the best compromise, so you can be flicking your wrist like a mad man and get everyone killed.

Oh you really are a pilot then, I thought you only wanted a "pilot styled" watch.

Then riddle me this: ISN'T THERE A FUCKING CLOCK IN THOSE FUCKING PLANES????

Seriously, I don't get that thing about pilot watches, there certainly is a time indicator somewhere that can be used, and that will be infinitely more practical and reliable than a watch you need to flick your wrist to read. It's like those railroad station agents, surrounded by accurately adjusted clocks, but leaving the exact time of train departures to whatever dogshit they have on their wrists.

Because whatever you wear, you'll have to flick your wrist, which is hardly more practical than requiring two hands. Which actually doesn't require two hands, just a single one to press the button while the watch wearing hand can do something else.

Surprised it isn't always on and synced, but I guess you can use your two hands at that time.

>2) What happens if that panel clock isn't working, or you need to leave the aircraft for whatever reason?
If it isn't working, that plane isn't really suitable for take off now is it? And if you need to leave the aircraft, I think you have far bigger worries than knowing the fucking time. Everytime I had road accidents, the first thing I did was certainly NOT check the time, and I couldn't move anyway so I couldn't check my wrist, albeit from my position I could very well look at the time on the dashboard.

>3) It's still a fucking pain having to reset your watch every time you do aerobatics.

>Surprised it isn't always on and synced
Synced to what? This is a KISS moment. Just keep it simple and don't rely on external timekeeping signals like GPS or things like this happen: https://www.faasafety.gov/files/notices/2016/Jun/CHLK_16-08_GPS_Flight_Advisory.pdf

>If it isn't working, that plane isn't really suitable for take off now is it?
Why not, it's not a flight instrument? Grounding a plane because the clocks running fast/stopped is pretty funny. You'd be surprised at what isn't working on many aircraft during flight. And that's ok.
Re. leaving the aircraft, I mean things like going out to get fuel etc. But it doesn't really matter.

>Why would the time change?
Mechanical movement watches often don't perform well under acceleration loads because the tuned parts can bind more easily, stopping the watch. This isn't much my field, I'm sure others can explain it.

In any case, it's clear you don't know much about flight (and that's ok), or about the role watches play for flying. If you don't like them, that's fine, don't buy them, they're not made for you. In the meantime, please stop denigrating a useful tool that I've been told to upgrade by someone who knows even better.
>>

>Synced to what? This is a KISS moment. Just keep it simple and don't rely on external timekeeping signals like GPS or things like this happen: https://www.faasafety.gov/files/notices/2016/Jun/CHLK_16-08_GPS_Flight_Advisory.pdf
A synced clock doesn't exclude an independant one. Transport planes and helicopters I've been in have several clocks, one independant, one synced by GPS, one synced by radio operators. That's not KISS, that's archaic as fuck.

>Why not, it's not a flight instrument? Grounding a plane because the clocks running fast/stopped is pretty funny. You'd be surprised at what isn't working on many aircraft during flight. And that's ok.
My perception of things is, if something is broken, there could be more. Like when your computer makes funny noises, and you're like "well, the fan isn't a computing instrument, I'll just plug my ears". That is at least what I got taught both from my experience with ground vehicles, and my aeronautics and naval experience, with Mirage 2000s, Transals, and Super Pumas: if something even as basic and secondary as a position light or a thermometer is broken, then the guys in charge better fucking fix it, and figure out why it's out and wonder if the root cause may be something bigger, and if they can't fix it, put a sticker on it that says "IT'S BROKEN, WE KNOW WHY, DON'T WORRY".

There's no "waah it's broken we don't know why but it's okay let's keep flying". That's poor maintenance.

>In any case, it's clear you don't know much about flight (and that's ok), or about the role watches play for flying.
I certainly didn't know about such lackluster safety. But I do know about the role watches play for flying though, as well as the role play of pilots and their watches (careful, there's a pun here). What about a watch with a slide rule so you can compute your speed or how much fuel remains?

I get it, you're in training, but then there's the real world. And in the real world, everyone wears a Casio.

Are we having a non-pilot educate a pilot on how to fly a plane? I'd say just another day of autism on this website.

Also I don't think G-forces hurt mechanical accuracy or reliability that much. Just look at the original WWII Fliegers, the Poljot 3133's and Valjoux 7750's issued to fighter pilots. Pic related, the V7750 Montreal was standard issue for MiG-21 and MiG-23 pilots in the commie Hungarian Air Force.
>>
>>57513180
Tbh you should listen to him lad. Every watchfag knows that pilot watches, even for pilots, are 99% roleplaying that ended in the 50s, and the 1% day you'll have to use it, you'll wish you had a G-Shock. They even make top of the range pilot G-Shocks now, get one of those and end the memes right now.

Check WUS to see what actual pilots who finished their training have to say about that. Most of them wear Omegas, Bell&Ross, lolkeks, Glycines, Oris and of course Breitlings, and they wear them because they're watchfags and nothing else.

Don't fall for the memes. And I'd love to know what watch your flight instructor wears.

>Why not, it's not a flight instrument? Grounding a plane because the clocks running fast/stopped is pretty funny. You'd be surprised at what isn't working on many aircraft during flight. And that's ok.
Most aviation administrations around the world **REQUEST** a **WORKING** clock.

He's right on all these points points:
- If it's not working, you're not flying, because it is a critical flight equipment as described by even the Vietnamese aviation agency.
- You don't take off until you figured out the extent of the damage, and consequence to other equipments. A dashboard clock is the most durable element, if it's out, the plane is likely on fire.
- You're in training flying probably shitty nearly decommissioned trainer planes in generally ideal weather conditions under the supervision of experienced people. They may tell you it's okay, but only because they measured the risks. Real world is different.
- Aviation isn't a foreign land only chosen snowflakes born with magical piloting skills can enter. It's simple, it's logical, it's accessible to anyone, and it's certainly open to remarks from even outsiders, that you should be hearing carefully for they understand better than you think, and you could be learning something. After all, you're still in training.
- Get a Gshock at best, 5610 is indeed very good and he'll leave you alone. But nothing more, past that point it's watchfaggotry.

>>
>>57515366
that's why i was asking if there were any that could at least get near the movement quality while not being the price of a new car. it's not that i don't think a parnis or seiko aren't capable of matching it, but that nobody cares about them. if they see a rolex they'll be interested in how you got it, what you do, and it just opens up a discussion. i know it's really sleazy but i like to exploit routes for opening up discussions, and a popular brand does the trick. it's just that i know they aren't worth their price.

there is no reason that you should be concerned with what others think of you. we all know that people who wear fedoras and velcro shoes would likely say this too, but there is a difference between being presentable, and presenting one's self in a way that would draw attention.

if you truly wanted to be interesting, you would need to have had humbling experiences, and know how to control yourself. instead, you feel that the objects you own define you. is it the watch that makes the man, or the man that makes the watch?
does the rolex change your personality?
does one more no-strings-attached fuck truly fill the void in your heart?

>>
>>57514485
I'm curious what you find retarded about this.

What's retarded really is the role playing around watches, because it has reached critical mass. We now see people act like wearing a diving watch on a leather band is a heresy because "wow how are you gonna dive plus all that leather will attract sharks for sure", that day/date features and compasses are useless on a watch because "you can look at the sun and stars", and now that wearing anything but a Designated Pilot Watch© on your wrist prevents a plane from taking off because "my flight instructor told me so and he's an experimented wrist checker".

Casio for digital efficiency, Citizen for analogs, mechanicals for style and horlogerie fags. There you go.

Depends on how frequently you'll have to use it. If like many people you just want to remove the stock strap and hop on the NATO train, a chink $2 one will do.

If you want to frequently switch straps, get a top of the range Bergeon for 20-30 eurodollars.

Chink ones are made of shitty metal that bends easily, and that generally aren't even properly profiled, and with such fine and thin tools, to work with tiny spaces between straps and lugs to push tiny springbars, there's no room for bad quality. I myself only used my chink tool twice, and I had to regrind it to an appropriate shape because it just wasn't good enough, and if it's not good enough, you'll struggle with it, force so much you'll scratch your watch, and may even scratch or stab yourself with it, which happens more than you'd think. And there's no middle ground between chink and top of the range tools, nor is there much choice, so basically, any tool that isn't a Bergeon is a $2 chink one no matter how much you paid for it.

Or buy a strap you like in a proper store, and they'll swap it for free with their quality Bergeon tools. Always make sure whoever you hand your watch to actually knows what he's doing, many people end up with a scratched lolex because of this.
>>
>>57522122
Yep, I just want to try out a NATO, ordered a cheap one for 600 yen (5 euros) and apparently it comes with a complimentary "tool" so I guess it'll be complete dogshit. Will probably try it out on my SNK809 and eventually buy a Bergeon for better watches. Thanks for the info

This post implies it's "crazy", when it's not, and that "of course" it comes from a prestigious vendeur d'horloges de youpins des hautes-terres helvètes as if no one else coul replicate that technological marvel.

Also the Spring Drive is yet another thing. I don't think it even has a battery.
>>
>>57524011
A daily recharge isnt too bad though, you don't use a regular watch while sleeping. Samsung claims their new watch gets around 4 days of battery life, Asus claims their watch can get 3 days and an extra 2 more with a mini magnetic battery pack.

I am going to be mainly using it as a fashion device and the nfc built inside for cardless pay.

As if I needed any more reasons not to buy one. It's designed by someone who made shit movies, and has no idea how to design a watch.

Bitter about what exactly?

I stated my opinion, why are you so offended by it?

It's a shit watch, made by a company with reputably shit build quality, and has 0-dial-readability.

Just because someone has "design" experience, doesn't mean they can then design anything they feel like and have it turn out to standard. Look are Armani watches. Complete shit. Shoes and jackets, decent.
>>
>>57525699
>Mission: Impossible II (2000)
The Mission Impossible movies are travesties that ripped the name and (mostly) the music from that legendary TV series. The music was originally 5/4 but changed to a technoized 4/4 version.

Indubitably what is needed is a more classic approach https://youtu.be/ZGBcWObxtPk

And also for watches.

Why are HMT movements so elegant? They took a classic Miyota 0201 movement which hummed along at 18000 bph with a 43 hours power reserve and refined it to within +/- 7 seconds a day.

Bought my gf a fake one for 4€ for her bday (bought her other more expensive shit ofc) and loves it. Never told her it was fake and she won't ever found out.
One of her best friends has one and it's impossible to tell the difference. Same Chink cheap crap and wouldn't be surprised if they are made in the same chopsuey factory for a production cost of 1€ each. For 4€ I can't really complain and my gf is happy, so perfect.
It's a very faggy looking watch for a guy imo, you may attract the wrong kind of attention.

Promaster Ny0040. Best affordable Citizen automatic watch. ISO rated diver's watch, which was issued for the Marina Militare (Italian Navy) in the 90s. It's obejetevely a better watch than the Seiko SKX since you can wind it up. Pic related is mine.

You guys think I should find one of these or get the ProspeX turtle?
>>
>>57531263
Yeah get one of those. They probably cut a lot of corners on the ProspeX for vintage loving hipster faggots.
>>
>>57527791
The real ones aren't that good but these are obviously well below even that. How do you not notice that it's a 3-hand movement with the seconds hand removed? The gasket for the crystal is shit, the NATO is shit and I can practically guarantee the crystal won't be installed flat. It's really obvious that they aren't made in the same factory same as every rep regardless of what the guy selling you it tells you (great way to get blacklisted).
>>
what sub 1000k$ watches are actually "Swiss made"?

not the "swiss movement but in a chink case so it can legally have the swiss made title".

pls respond
>>
What is a good 18mm resin/rubber/silicone strap for a Vostok Amphibia 420 case?

I want something similar to the OEM diver straps that come with the SKX007. I see some Timex ones with a similar style on Amazon, but have no idea if they will fit this watch. Wat do?
>>
>>57532942
A vintage swiss is probably your best bet
>>
>>57533265
You could potentially notch down an SKX strap. Not sure how it would look

I was looking into different options for straps for my Ray, because I'd like something other than the bracelet from time to time.
I have a one piece nylon, but it really makes it too high on the wrist.
Rubber straps seem nice, but I know fuck all about them. I'm assumong cheap rubber would feel awful?
Isofrane are quite nice, but a strap is the same price as what I paid for the watch...

Anyone have some insight on good value rubber straps?
Or something else that would go well on a diver. Sailcloth/silicone maybe?
>>
I got my first mechanical earlier today and now I'm shoving it under a light every few minutes to be amazed by the lume. Anybody knows the feel?
>>
>>57536495

Your lume shouldn't be discharging that fast, but yes, I often put my hand over the watch to see the lume.
What did you get?
>>
>>57536575
SNK809, I guess a stereotypical choice, but it's so cheap I just couldn't say no
>>
>>57536623
Yes, it was my first too (SNK803) and is still the watch I wear the most.
I'm wondering if I should buy a new one, since mine has the 7s26b and is now gaining a minute a day or more, after years of abuse.

Yes it's a very easy swap. The dial is a different colour though, the SKX009 has a very dark blue dial.

Seriously it has become the most cringeworthy NATO out there.

On that topic, I've been updating the NATO strap guide big time. Except it's now interfering with my own autism. I've dug deep into the dirty scams of strap sellers, I came to doubt about everything, even the most reputed sellers, I've seen the naked truth behind it all, and it's too much for one man to handle.

Now I'm not sure if I'll publish it desu.
