Any cardiofags here? The Fenix 3 HR is going on sale for $400 on black friday, should I pick one up? It seems to have every feature you could want from an exercise watch while also looking like an actual watch. But $400 is still a lot of money for a fucking running watch, the FR235 is also going on sale for $250.

Just love how people can pay thousands for shitty eta watches that they've just reached and rebadged when you can get an original accurate movement, built and assembled in house, for half the cost of the meme watches posted here. ebay sellers follow the aliexpress style of putting the description of the item as the name, so they show up in more searches.
It's a full watch. Normally the GA100 sells for 70ish from amazon but ebay had some kinda sale. I don't own any g-shocks or any large watches in general so the price put me over the edge and I picked it up.
The tough solar watch is just something I picked up off my wish list to remind me of trump's victory. I like buying watches right after big events so they have meaning

>What's wrong with buying one of those 5-10 dollar chinese ebay watches

Something is more likely to break after a while. The hands might fall off and so on and so fort. You also will likely just have access to quartz watches. The lume might stop working after a while and they LOOK cheap usually.

You can get a pretty decent functional watch in the $50-$100 range. While one of the best watches around ~$10 is likely a Casio F-91W. Which they only can keep in good quality (except the strap which still is shit) due to the large amount of them they make.

Some cheap chinkshit will likely have worse quality than that. But you might be lucky. There is also the fact that you can not reliably know the quality of a $5-$10 chinkshit watch. While a brand watch needs to have consistent quality or have some sort of warranty to keep their reputation.

I want to get a new watch and replace my G-Shock with something that doesn't stand out so much, without making compromises on functionality. I've been looking at some Seiko analog-digital models since I presume they have the same alarm and digital stopwatch functions as the G-Shock. For example, the Seiko SNJ023P1 would be something I'd be really happy with, but it's not easily obtainable.

Got any recommendations for something similar that I can actually buy?

Thanks in advance.

Seiko Sarb is likely the best for a decent and dressy watch. The orients in the same price range are also good, but what about a cheap orient like possibly this:
http://a.co/esSgbG9
or if you like a gold tone (even though I think it's a bit too much for my taste) then this is a good deal atm. http://a.co/81hKaNE

There are also some great Seiko 5s in that price range that are a bit dressy like this one: http://a.co/ifjIWsz or maybe this one with a patterned dial http://a.co/dhPheJu

I would have a look at the cheapest orients and the Seiko 5's

Time to get some cheap NATOs and some spring bars so I can actually wear some of these.

I wondered why so many wanted chronographs. So precision tea making is now a thing. Neat.

Women need chronographs to assess the financial capacity of their potential mate. Also around here it was revealed that many customers for high end watches were ladies of the night using watches to transfer "currencies" back to their home countries in a manner safer than notes.

>black scubadude dial

You could build almost this exact watch out of current production Vostok parts. Only this type of Scubadude dial isn't made in black anymore, only blue.

There is however a black 12-6-9 dial in production with the Scubadude, dial model number 634.
>>
I like the look of those.
It's the "Rider's chronograph" Giugiaro reissue, with the dial slanted so that you can read it while holding the handlebars of a bike.
But once again they used a quartz movement that has a 24hr subdial and a date...
I ride a motorcircle, and even though I wouldn't read a watch while riding, I really appreciate the thought behind the watch.
The asking price is just steep for me at the moment, since there are several nice mechanicals I'd want to buy with that money... But this is a limited edition. I'm torn.
>>
>>57499481
And here are the other two models.
$300 to 350, JDM only, 1000 to 1500 made per colour.

That is up to you, I would say anything though. It isn't too flashy, and a lot of people wear steel band watches with a casual look. I think it could go either or, but I personally wouldn't wear it to super formal events.

If you like that look, maybe you'd like the orient palmer. It is what I plan on eventually getting, after I get a few other things first.

I think you have fat wrists. The model came out over 20 years ago too.

You can always take out the lug pins and stick a NATO strap on though. A sensible idea as even though the watch has a battery life extending well over 5 years the stock strap is the weakest component and most likely to snap/break first within a few years if even that.

Nah, the cheap resin bands on the low-end casios have rivets for allowing your wrist to breath.
The problem is that they're not molded, but just sections of thinner plastic.
So they's basically weak points that break with repeated flexing.
The more expensive ones don't have this issue.

He's right though, that's not what diminishing returns means..

Do you know what other dial designs date back as far as the 1980s? I want to avoid the recently designed hipster garbage dials when I stock up on these.

Most "classic" Amphibian models have Soviet-era dial designs. Look around here:
http://meranom.com/amphibian-classic/

Then look at vintage Vostoks on Ebay. If you find a "CCCP" dial that matches the new ones on Meranom you win.

Hi ! I have a f91w and am liking it much, but I am also considering owning a bigger casio watch. I am looking for a digital watch that is either a G-shock or looking similar to the f91-w but bigger, which one would you recommend ? Thanks !
By the way I don't really like digital G-Shocks if they have big hands

Looking into SARBs atm, first time for Seiko. Which one (between pic related) does /seiko/ recommend?

Just sharing my retro Casios, sorry about the shit lighting.

Pictured from left to right:
TS-1200(1983), 59CGS-57(1980), F-10(1984)

Bought the left two cheaply from some dude on an online sell spot along with some other shit digitals, didn't seem to know what he had. Great condition, the 59CGS-57 in particular is very rare. You can hardly find anything about it, but it's an official model because it's in a magazine from 1980. Not sure if there's a demand for it though, most Casio collectors seems to focus on either G-Shocks or Marlins & Divers.

I'm thinking about getting an automatic...but I'm not very active, most of my day I'm on a PC and when I do sport I have to remove my watch (muay thai)
So my question is : will an automatic watch still runs fine for someone that's not a very active person?

Of course... The straps on it are horrendous and break easily. But it shows the time, has an alarm, date, stopwatch and lights up with a button. It's functional and apart from the straps it should last a while.
