I have a Topre but don't have an issue with the tactile bump.
If you're trying to double or triple tap linear *might* be better but imo it's unimportant.
I have a brown switch next to me and it's kind of gritty but when gaming I wouldn't notice it.

>Now, /g/, teach me how to build one.
you can buy keyboard kits and assemble the thing your self like pic related.

If you want however you can buy the parts individually like a gh60 PCB and plate, then use whatever cherry style switches you want and build a custom case for the whole thing.

Or you can build an HHKB with alps switches instead:

I've got a infinity keyboard.

I'm kind of use to hhkb arrows setup, plus I've got special arrow key layer on right shft, alt, win, crtl, if I'm feeling lazy.

I feel like getting another board that has dedicated arrow keys like the rs68/whitefox/tada. I also already have a phantom tkl as well so it's absolutely unnecessary.

My keyboard doesn't have any brakes. Was that an option I forgot to request?

It has never broken either, despite heavy daily use. I don't have six keyboards like some folks, this one gets all my use. So if they break (I assume that's what you meant) easily, I would assume mine would have. But nothing on it ever has. So I must conclude that you're full of shit.
>>
>>57494417

I have some legit cherry ones on my Compact SQ, they have been an absolute clusterfuck.
>>
>>57494452
The spacebar is what I've broken on 3 different costar stabilizer keyboards. For games where you spam the spacebar they can't handle it.

You must rage pretty hard, I play FPSs A LOT, every day, many hours, and I've never broken it.

Maybe take it easy on the Mountain Dew?
>>
>>57494504
I don't rage on my my keyboards. Costar stabilizers just can't handle gaming use. I don't own a Razer keyboard but they have issues with them that you can look up. I remember them popping up in my searches for what was causing the issue awhile back.

The cherry stabilizers have been good for me. Been using them for years.

>>
>>57494624

Never had one of those break no matter how much I mash the spacebar in any game.

I'd probably still use them if they did break after a while. They'd be trivial to replace and they're that much nicer to use than Cherry stabilizers.

Beats me, I don't use it that much either, but there's not really much of a reason to get rid of it if you're already going to have an otherwise TKL-style layout. I'd be more concerned about the horizontal space that your keyboard occupies rather than the vertical space.

The TADA68 is fully programmable, as are many other boards with that layout.

>>57497910
Magicforce 68 has a 4-key cluster of del, ins, pgup and pgdn with home and end on the function layer of pgup/pgdn.

That's probably the closest you're gonna get to what you want without making your own keyboard from scratch.

Or just buying a standard TKL and dealing with the useless fn row.

Gateron are great switches, but their click ones lack QC and you should generally stick to Cherry for them. Otherwise, Gateron > Cherry.

the media keys are nice, but if you want a cheap cherry mx keyboard why not wait until black friday / cyber monday. I got a Rosewill rk9000 for 60 bucks last year, though I don't know if that same deal will happen again. I didn't hurt to wait now does it.
>>
>>57498501
The bottom row is non-standard, and even the placement of the stabilizers is non-standard. E. g. finding replacement keycaps will be a massive pain.

Ducky doesn't have a track record of making shit keyboards. They're known for the opposite.

I've got a Ducky keyboard and a Logitech keyboard. Now from experience I can never go back to ABS keycaps again after having ducky dye-sub PBT for so long. The massive jump in quality was worth the extra 20 bucks compared to the laser etched ABS that the g610 has. Now Ducky also has three layer function mapping with fully programmable macros. I've only got a couple macros set, but your mileage may vary. Personally I don't care for a back light and having dedicated volume keys is enough for me since the media playback is all bounded to my mouse, but if you want a back light then there is this:

Here you go.
Yes, no browns because browns suck. Get any other switch than browns.

Because maybe at some point you'll want to replace your keycaps because the stock ones are either worn out or got shiny and look disgusting. Or just because you feel like it, because modularity is one of the nice things about mechanical keyboards.

Have you actually used browns?

By their description they sound great. Quiet with tactile feedback. In real life, they are a gritty mess with just a minor bump. The solid click a blue has is vastly superior in almost every way.

Besides, sound is less dependant upon switches and more on case, caps, and plate. My greens board is much quieter than my browns.

Also, try to spot the miss in this picture.

Get blacks or reds, or clears.

Browns feel like reds with dirt in the middle, that's what wrong with them. "Browns are the best for typing and gaming" is bullshit marketing that people keep spouting because they have no idea what they're talking about.

Browns are a miserable compromise between tactility and low weighting.

Get one of the Ducky One's with dyesubbed PBT caps, they come in full-size.
>>
>>57498757

Actually, bump is even too strong of a word. It feels more like a peice of sand getting caught between something inside the switch. It just feels wrong.
>>
>>57498757
>>57498770
Alright, thanks for informing me. Yea everyone makes it seem that browns are the best overall for gaming and typing. Which Ducky keyboards are good and how are the blacks, reds, and clears? I don't like reds because they are linear or however people say it.
>>
>>57498698
>They are way to loud
You know it doesn't really matter since you bottom out the keys anyway. But if you want cherry browns and don't care for all that extra stuff then maybe check out:

https://mechanicalkeyboards.com/search.php?keyword=&brand=34&switch=2&size=Full+Size&led=&capmat=&capprint=&model=&availability=in_stock_pre&show_kb=off&show_kb=on&show_acc=off

The custom doubleshot ABS keycaps might not be your taste, but I think the inverse colors look nice
>>
>>57498795
If you don't want something linear and still want something quiet, clears are your only option when it comes to cherry switches.
>>
>>57498799
Now that people told me that I don't want a brown switch keyboard. I don't know what the best option is though.

I normally just do regular usage and sometimes I play games, but not all that often.

>>57498812

>>

>>

Gateron Browns are basically Cherry Browns but actually good, or Cherry Clears are Cherry Browns but good and with a higher actuation force.
>>

>How they perform on what I said above?
They're perfectly fine for everything. The only thing that I'd be cautious of with clears is if you play games that require you to hold down modifiers with your pinky a lot since that can cause strain to your arm.
>>
>>57498795
If you want a quiet mechanical keyboard then check out matias quiet click switches since they are even quieter then rubberdomes

>Backlight
A nice plus but not necessary.
>Previous/current keyboards
Currently using a Ducky Shine 3. Except for the switches I love it. It's build like a tank, very plain visually (not GAYMEN-style), everything is hardware-sided so it works with all OS'es etc. Ideally I'd get a new one of these with MX Blues or something similar, but I'm open to something new (especially since this exact model either is impossible to find or very expensive).

I want PBT keycaps and a non-flasy design.

Cheers lads

Hey people. I bought a AK33 Ajazz with black "Zorro" switches.
What do you think about it?
>>
>>57498371

Must've been a lot of jizz on there to grow that much mold.
>>
>>57503165
As far as I know someone spilled chocolate milk on it, or something like that.
>>
>>57502878
How did you get that keyboard for so cheap?
>>
>>57498757
>pcb mount

Gross.
>>
What is the purpose of lights inside keyboards?
>>
>>57503192
I knew a person who picked one up but never even opened it. He even admitted that he had no clue why he bought it.
>>
>>57503246
So he bought the keyboard, had no use for it, and sold it to you for dirt cheap?
>>
>>57500456
>no alps

Matias quiet switches are top tactile, no contest.

Matias click switches are > cherry greens but < buckling springs
>>
>>57503269
right.
it was either that or ordering a cheap keyboard that would be even worse elsewhere, so I decided to do it
I didn't expect that I'd somehow manage to keep it for 2 years, though
>>
>>57503295
Dude for 25 it was a fucking steal, much better than some rubber dome crap. What's wrong with the keyboard anyways?
>>
>>57503318
still working well, but I'm considering switching since I have some funds available. I'm not buying a new one currently, I'm just looking for few choices
>>
>>57503318

It's cheaply made and has terrible aesthetics yet sells at a premium price.

If you got it for $25 then it's just ugly.
>>
>>57503373
Same here. Probably for Black Friday (When prices drop) I will order a new keyboard and mouse.

Currently using a shit cooler master devastator combo, it has served me well, especially for the price.

Are fukka switches any good? I was thinking about buying the KeyboardParadise V80 with fukka switches.

Need a new keyboard and wanted some suggestions.

>$200 maximum
>North America
>Blue/Brown/Clear preferred switch
>ANSI
>100% Form Factor (104 keys)
>Backlight optional

Gonna mainly be using it for gaming, but also the occasional document creation.
>>
>>57503912

Hall effect switches are pretty boss and hard to get wrong.
>>
>>57504406

They're p.gud. At least as good as Matias.
>>
>>57504472
Cool. How are they compared to cherry blues?
>>
>>57504495

Tactility and clickyness of pretty much any clicky alps style switch blows cherry out of the water.

I was mildly concerned about the fact that there is little or no programming, and if I should worry about whether Alibaba machanical keyboards have a good or a bad reputation.

Basically just want to cross my "i"s and dot my "t"s, make sure no one here has heard of crippling flaws or had anything else to weigh in on.

My first ever mechanical keyboard, by the way.
>>
>>57504514
Thanks anon. I will get one then.
>>
>>57504522

The people who've reviewed it seem pretty happy with it. As long as the sliders hold up over time there isn't much that can go wrong with the switches.

Hall effect isn't mechanical, though. It's a magnetic non-contact switch.

Er...

You know what I mean. A keyboard where some...ya know...THOUGHT is put into the typing mechanism rather than just shitting a membrane under a set of chiclets. In other words, something that's worth more than 5 dollars.

Thanks by the way.
>>
>>57504620
You could just call it "quality" or something. Having an actuation mechanism is a specific thing.
>>
>>57500456
where are all the alps switches, including their clones?
What about beam spring?
If you put topres in there why not mistumi switches as well?
What about cherry navy and orange switches?
>>
>>57504705
Where are you supposed to buy any of those?
>>

There are hundreds of them on eBay for like 40 bucks. Heck you can even buy them from electronic recyclers for cheap:
https://www.elecshopper.com/input-devices/keyboards.html

The hardest of those to get would be beam springs, but there are at least a dozen of those on ebay

These particular switches? Nobody does, except the 5 or 6 people he sent samples to. Read his DT thread for more details.

Hall effect keyboards used to be a thing. Game controllers still use them sometimes for analog buttons, like the triggers on Xbox controllers. If you have no other point of reference, at least there's that.

If you want something where you still have arrow keys + numpad but save some space, Cooler Master has a neat layout where the numpad and arrow keys are combined. It's called the Masterkeys Pro M. But it's not the nicest looking of boards.

The layout in your pic is called a 1800 layout and pretty hard to find outside of old boards or custom. Why not get a tenkeyless?

If you want that exact keyboard its a cherry keyboard made for Dolch Pac that came with a portable network sniffer, as such they are hard to come by individually. Now cherry sells that layout as the g80-1800 series
>>
>>57518691

Either old terminal keyboards /AT keyboards with an active adapter like

yeah the IBM Model Fs but they pretty much all need to be modified to work on modern computers

Guys I just got an office job. Now I have to type a lot, and not for pleasure. The keyboard they gave me is an old Dell keyboard full of some fat bitches mustache hair and ruffles chip crumbs. They told me I can bring my own.

I'm not spending mechanical bux for something a mexican-chinese maid can steal from my desk late at night. Have any of you tried these "mechanical feel" keyboards? Are they worth a shit at all?

Ideally I want a keyboard with nice feel, that is quiet. It doesn't have to be anything special at all, but something with a better typing experience than a K120 would be preferred.
>>
>>57519047
why not get one of those cheap chinkshit boards with knockoff switches

>>
>>57519075
I don't wnat to get something with cherry knockoff switches because they're loud and i'll be "that stupid fuck who has to annoy us all with his fancy keyboard he brought in"

>>
>>57519096

wew lad most topres sell for 150-200 bucks with the clones selling at 80-100.
