Reposting in the new thread since I haven't been able to figure this out yet.

I'm trying to set up a virtual machine with QEMU/KVM. The host machine runs Arch, the guest Debian.

I've been trying to set up an internet connection on the guest VM but without success. Leaving the default networking configuration on when launching the vm, I simply get 100 % packet loss when trying to ping something. I have a Windows 7 vm too but that one works flawlessly.

I heard I should set up a bridge, but I wonder what I'm doing wrong. I attempted to set up a bridge using this: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Network_bridge#With_iproute2 tutorial, but every time I set my normal network interface (eno1 in my case) have it's master as br0, a bridge I just created, the internet on the host machine stop's working.

Any help would be much appreciated!

I don't know if it's funny or sad when I see people hating on GNU because they go interjected but when it comes to sell "Linux" to normalfags, you see the same people calling windows users "botnet cucks" who should use Linux because "freedom".

The GNU system was developed 10 years before the first loc of the Linux kernel were even written. It was made so people can have freedom when using a computer and this is what matters. How pathetic is it to start hating on GNU and it's source RMS including the whole meaning of Free Software just for the convenience to call it Linux. Call it Linux if you want, but never go full retarded.

sure, when you gnufags stop forcing everyone else to call it gnu/linux
lmfao
>>
>>57441717
not him but it actually happens that /g/ suggests to use 'Linux' so the user can have freedom
they don't call it gnu/linux
they also don't know that linux actually isn't even completly free (intentionally ignores license violations to include ucode)
speaks also for the technical knowlege of 'just linux' users
>>
Is it possible to make a Qt app (for example VirtualBox) use the same icons as the GTK apps?
>>
>>57441740
you do realize that /g/ can't think anything? it isn't alive and it doesn't have a consciousness of its own.
and i can't be bothered to care what 'they' suggest to use linux for, i can decide that for myself and i'm sure most people here are capable of that as well
i'm just saying it's retarded to force people to do something and then be surprised when you see retaliation (your thread gets increased amounts of shitposting in it)
>>
>>57441717
>>57441740
Other Anon with different view (wow).

I'm a GNU/Linux guy (unamo -o says so), but I don't think that the interjection pasta is a good idea since it breeds people who feel insulted and when people feel insulted, they want to strike back, start hating on freedom and crippling their system down to embeded tier like alpine. That's not the goal we're going for.

My suggestion: Let normalfags call it Linux, call it yourself GNU/Linux. If they are intelligent or curious enough, they'll research themselves and learn about the history of GNU, Linux, etc.

Thanks for reading my blog.

zsh is a meme, if you really care about shell scripting try to write POSIX scripts and use Bash

the reason why zsh is so popular is because OS X ships a very old version of bash and macfags, like the tech illiterates they are, instead of simply updating, they think bash is bad and therefore switch to zsh

this created a whole community of zsh/macfags who created the framework oh-my-zsh (which is even more a meme than zsh itself), providing 10000000000 aliases for people who cant write aliases or configure a PS1

tl;dr if you don't want that people laugh at you, stick to bash for interactive and write POSIX sh for maximum compatibility

Nice strawman, but nope, the guy clearly said POSIX. Searx it.
>>
>>57441831
zsh has almost no advantages compared to bash, it has a slightly different syntax and configuration which you may prefer but that's it. Many people start using zsh because they want to be different and then fabricate "advantages" to justify their choice.

bash (even without the --posix flag) supports all the POSIX extensions and is therefore POSIX-compliant, the bash POSIX mode is just to restrict non-POSIX extensions and make it strictly POSIX-compliant which makes it easier to make portable scripts. recommend me x2 good partition sizes pls for my 232GB ssd (actually 250GB but 232GB useable)

I want to throw Manjaro and Ubuntu on these partitions

I'm thinking x2 even half split partitions will suffice for Ubangoo and Manjaro.

I'm thinking 110GB each partition but it has to be evenly split in half so both Manjaro and Ubangoo get their even shares of the partition space

So why did people click Mint?
- recommended by tech illiterate linux blobs
- famous for backdoored isos (earned even more clicks)

tbqh, mint is a really bad quality distro, maintained by one single hobbyist guy who doesn't even know how packaging works (package name highjacking, etc), on top of that, mint is so extremly hacked together that it falls apart when you replace one of the hacked packages by updating, that's why Mint has a blacklist (not joking), which acutally blacklists programs like linux, systemd, xord, dbus, etc from any updates

Still having problems booting into linux with toshiba satellite CL45. Using a USB. Someone suggested
>In the bios, there should be a list of things you can boot to. It could be named grub, linux boot manager, Ubuntu, or anything.
however when I go to "Boot Priority Options" I already have HDD/SSD above USB. Again UEFI Boot is grayed out so I can't change it, never had that problem on my Asus laptop. When I am at the "Boot Menu" it gives me 3 options. Boot into "HDD/SSD: Toshiba" and "USB: pny USB 2.0" and Enter Setup which is where I was before.

I boot into USB and I installed Ubuntu clean. install complete, normal restart to see if it worked and it worked. Restart without USB after and...
>Reboot and select proper Boot device or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key
So I restart again and go to BIOS. Select HDD/SSD instead of USB this time.

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.

Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called "Linux", and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.

There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called "Linux" distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

No news. Linux went downhill back in the 90s when Linus allowed the first binary blobs in his (GPL licensed) kernel.

What's the point of slackware to exist?

Honestly, Slackware is a bloat to the linux community
>>
>>57442785
is this the entirety of the ego and it's own?
>>
>>57446409
Slackware exists as a way to learn really learn how Linux works. It doesn't have all the crutches that bigger more user friendly distros rely on.
>>
gentoo is popular because you compile and tailor everything specifically for your own system right? What's to stop someone using another distribution to do the exact same thing? why do you need gentoo?
>>
Another random question. How many of you just learned how to use linux for no other reason but curiosity? You don't need it for work or anything, just tried it out and taught yourselves? how has your progression looked?
>>
>>57447121
gentoo has a package manager that makes it pretty easy
>>
>>57447121
because its harder to maintain
