When Scythe Kro Craft rev.B speakers and Lepai 20w amp (70$ combo) blows out headphones like X2, HD600 and the like by miles, I do not understand this HPG meme. You get real presence with studio monitors, like the singer is in front of you and great width in stereo.

Then you add an active subwoofer for 50-100$ and you have great low end for movies.

And Hd600 cost 300$ + amp dac for 80$... Cucked.

HD 25 plus
It's very light and durable plus the velour pads included are pretty comfy
>>
>>57427925
High mass and weight can make certain positions awkward with the LCD-2 on. In particular, it shifts around on my head a bit if I lean too much. Clamp and headband pressure are consrquences, but the thick pads try to distribute the pressure. Successful distribution and comfort may vary.
Mediocre sensitivity overall. Sensitivity is very flat and of average level from 20 to 1000 Hz. Response drops sharply before eventually picking up again around 8-9 kHz or so.
I would not say the LCD headphones sound unclear or indistinct. I don't like the drop in treble, but I'm not the one who is asking.

It's a sale that runs deeper than almost all on the 650, but:

-Massdrop is really slow with shipping. By the time you get it (late December domestic), Amazon and other retailers will have had a sale on the HD650 under 300 dollars or so, and one that doesn't require you to wait six weeks to get it. There might be one right now.
-No returns, refunds.
>>
Friends, I am having second thoughts.

I have prepared to get the Sennheiser HD6xx on massdrop, plus the Schiit Audio Magni2uber + Modi2uber. Together it is $500, probably $550-600 after shipping.

The more I think about it, the more I feel like it's too much money. It would be the first time in years that I have 'treated' myself to something expensive, yet I can't stop feeling guilty about it.

Now I'm thinking I might want to get the HD598 and a (tube) DAC/AMP, although I know one isn't necessary.

Can someone suggest a better combo for less than $300, cause in my mind there's a big difference between $500 and $300.

Elac b6s (or b5, or literally a multitude around 300$) and any decent receiver, even cheap 5.1s (or 2.1) will do since they have and external dac and amplifier.

One at a time perhaps, but you can't feed the amp with both the turntable and computer output at the same time.

Well, soundcards are not equal, as with computers. Some make more noise than others.
It is a potential issue, but if the HD 650 were as insensitive as you thought, you wouldn't get much noise either.

The response is pretty poor without ANC/Bluetooth active.
Digital operation activates the EQ which patches up major issues, but the EQ choice is still somewhat questionable, and they still aren't amazing. Could apply additional EQ of your own.

Which one is less bad in passive mode? Personally the Sony, I think, whereas I would say the Bose wins in active mode.

I would prefer wireless but ultimately I want the best bang for my buck. I don't have a DAC nor do I want one so headphones that need those are out of the question too. I was thinking about HIFIMAN HE400S, anyone have experience with them?

I'm between the XPT100s and the HM5.

Both are pretty much the same headphones BUT I noticed that XPT100s build quality (and packaging, seriously who the fuck thinks a big ass box full of foam is a good idea for packaging budget headphones) seems worse than its more expensive brother, however, HM5 has a tendency to squish heads like nuts.
Also some small details in the sound that most reviewers noticed worse on the 100s.

Which one will last me longer?

I was preparing to change the worn out pads on my Sony MDR-7506's with the Beyerdynamic ones I see everyone talking about, and I saw that the paper-like stuff covering the holes around the driver is crumpled and coming off. Because it was covering those holes, I assume having the paper there is important to sound quality. Should I just try to tape it back on, or am I fucked somehow? Also, the foam around the right diver is sliding/peeling off. What should I do? It looks fucking ugly.

Ausfag here. 6XX for 200+15USD is still more than 50AUD cheaper than a 600.
I'm considering joining the drop and just applying EQ to make it more 600-esque than it already is.
>>
>>57438473
>always peak performance
Not really. Headphones have issues with seal and positional changes on the head alter their response. Well designed models are less prone to this but it's still an issue. Due to the positional variance and headphone drivers' often very resonant response in the treble, they fall short of loudspeakers in accuracy. Even EQ does not always effectively fix it as the peak you equalize might have shifted elsewhere on the next time you put the headphones on. Headphones also do not present stereo image like loudspeakers do so you won't hear loudspeaker mastered recordings properly.

While loudspeakers definitely add more things to take care of and fiddle with, they aren't worse because of that. You really don't have to make careful acoustic treatment or even use EQ to get very nice sound from loudspeakers in a room. Treble range is almost always more accurate out of the box on any competent loudspeaker design. Bass extension and accuracy is hard but to get it well in a single spot can be adjusted with simple EQ in most situations. Well designed loudspeakers also lessen the effects of room response. Ultimately I think loudspeakers are superior device for listening as far as sound quality goes but there are some caveats. And from headphones, canalphones are the nicest thing.

I want to get a 'portable' amp/dac for my HD 600. Not necessary something to carry in a pocket, altho it would be welcomed, but something not resembling a big box on my table. Voltage and the device's ability to sustain voltage drop across the load are all that are needed to be known.

My Xonar DX was able to driver them almost identically to an O2, they worked fine on integrated audio too. Using the O2 the mid-bass is a bit less boomy but it's quite a subtle change, not a big deal at all. If you want to get 650s I suggest trying them out on whatever source you have to see if they sound good to you, unless all you've got is a line-level output meant to be connected to some device with very high input impedance and not headphones.

Skullcandy Ink'd
VE Monk+

I listen to Drum and Bass. I will also be using them for gaming (CSGO, Battlefield 4, osu!)
I'm currently loving the Samsons but wished they were open. Is the Presonus HD7 any good?

I've always used headsets, my plantronics 780 is finally shitting out so I'm looking for a replacement. I'm looking at a logitech 230 for suuuper cheap at only 30 bucks, seems like a pretty good deal for a poor NEET

I know you guys hate headsets but are there really any good alternative under 50$ headphones? I'm on my computer (often gaming) for over 8 hours a day, comfort is really important to me and these look extremely comfortable especially since I have huge ears. Most headphones I've seen look uncomfortable for really prolonged use and giving up a built in mic kinda sucks. I don't use my mic enough to really warrant going and buying a standalone but its still nice to have for a the few times I use it gaming

I was looking at the Senn HD 419's a while ago, but then I decided to look for deals on the HD 439 because of the detachable wire. I was looking for some kind of microphone to connect to the headphonres so I wouldn't have to place a mic some place all the time. I didn't see any info saying the wire was detachable on the 419's, please inform me if it is because I technically like the way the 419's look over the 439's and can get a brand-new in the box set over the deal I found on ebay that says "New but missing packaging original packaging with scuffs".

>>57445823
I was actually looking at these, a lot of people say they are good, but also lack bass. I like bassy things. Also open ended like
>>57445875

Thanks for the replies. I'll be happy to rid myself of the Sound blasters after I'm happy with my choice. I only got the SB's because they seemed pretty decent over generic and cheaper headsets, but after 2 years of continuous use the things holding the cans are basically holding on for dear life. So it's time for an upgrade.

eg what frequency range you want emphasised

What caused it to die? You said it was uncomfy you could've replaced pads to Brainwavs HM5 pads.

I don't know if its still available. Can you increase budget to $128 AUD? JB Hi-Fi had nice on-ear headphones with sound quality to match.
>>
>>57448522
Nevermind JB Hi-Fi deal was old. They were $128 AUD beats solo 2. These look promising https://www.wireless1.com.au/audio-technica-ath-m20x-entry-level-monitor-headphones

If you absolutely had to go <$50 and gimp on sound quality and build quality Sennheiser HD202.

>>
>>57437570
It's a common thing for modders to cover or replace. Impact on sound quality is often measurable as it has effect on the frequency response, mostly to high frequencies. How and how much it alters the response is beyond me, I'd need to test it and measure to know. My advice is to keep it there if you can. Not a big deal if you rip it out however.

Both have overall warm tone, X2 is more bassy and has a treble peak which HD 650 lacks. They sound different, comfort is subjective and whatever you like the most even more so. There's no meme. You either like it or don't. I'd pay the HD 650 price any day over X2 simply because I think HD 650 is the better headphone. Not everyone agrees. Audition them if you are interested.
